Shakespeare Distillery scoops two awards at the Stratford Herald Business & Tourism Awards Shakespeare Distillery has scooped two awards at the 2023 Stratford Herald Business & Tourism Awards held on 20th October at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Further Environmental Recognition for the Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Coventry

The independent artisan spirit producer retained awards in the Best Green Business category and Top Attraction category for the second consecutive year. The awards recognise the achievements of a wide range of enterprises, from family-run independents and restaurants to large-scale employers that make a priority of looking after their staff. Shakespeare Distillery, which was founded in 2015 by Simon Picken and Peter Monks, is Stratford-upon-Avon's only working distillery and produces a series of spirits including Stratford Gin, Jester Rums, and distillery specials. The Distillery also provides daily tours and other experiences including a Gin School, Cocktail Masterclasses and River Avon Gin Tasting Cruises. The latest addition is a shop, Tasting Room, and Rum School in the centre of Stratfordupon-Avon at 1 High Street. The building used to be the home of Judith, William Shakespeare’s daughter and her husband, Thomas Quiney. Shakespeare Distillery has converted the upper two floors of the historical building into a state-of-the-art facility for enjoying its spirits. On the ground floor, the shop showcases its spirits plus a range of wine, beer, cider, and chocolates from local producers.

Peter Monks, Director at Shakespeare Distillery, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won not one, but two awards in retaining Best Green Business and Top Attraction for the second year running. “For a busy tourist town with many choices for the visitor, we are humbled to have once again received this Top Attraction award. It is also amazing to be recognised as a leading Green Business, as this is something we planned from the outset in our selection of highly energy efficient modern distilling equipment. Winning both these awards is testament to how hard the entire team at Shakespeare Distillery works, and we are extremely proud of them.”

In 2020 and 2022 the company won gold and silver in the West Midlands Tourism Awards for its destination distillery experiences and has been shortlisted again for 2024. The company was also awarded the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award in 2023, 2022 and 2021 and a silver medal in the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021 for its Jester White Rum. Last year Shakespeare Distillery scooped four awards at the Stratford Herald Business & Tourism Awards and in May 2023 it was ranked in the top 10 of the best Gin Distillery experiences in the UK, according to new research by Southwestern Railway. EMKA Panel Building Hardware for Road and Rail Specialist Vehicles In specifying panel building hardware for road and rail specialist vehicles, the team at EMKA recognises that customers frequently require higher performance than might be available from other generic components. To this end, they have developed application focused products such as the DoubleRed, ePush and eCam lock mechanisms which are coupled with various stainless steel quarter turn locks and hinges, plus the concealed fitting 180 degree gear hinge. Generally, for these specialist areas, high levels of sealing (IP rating) are required, plus robust strength, corrosion resistance, anti-vandal design (e.g., narrow gaps to resist tools), and a non-interference design (flush or very low profile to enable use in small spaces and not present a hazard which catches on clothing). The EMKA panel building hardware programme takes care of these issues by offering availability in materials such as high strength industrial plastics, precision diecast components and use of stainless steel.

The Double Red compression latch handle offers dual level security and more comfortable operation for cabinets, door and covers. This innovative locking solution is especially tailored to the numerous storage boxes in caravans, for example, where luggage and safety equipment is stowed. Thanks to clever closure technology, it is also suitable for applications in wider sectors of industry and transport such as specialist vehicles where it is often a one-to-one replacement for existing industry standard systems. As both opening mechanisms are marked by a red ring visual indicator, the new lock is called the Double Red – it is classified shock proof and vibration proof, as well as offering IP65 protection. Externally invisible locking is offered by the EMKA ePush-Lock, meeting the need for a comfortable non-handle locking system. This flat design style of internal locking handle is the trend for mobile homes and many other applications where it is advantageous to disguise opening panels.

The Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Coventry is celebrating the completion of Level 2 Essential of the Wyndham Green Certification Programme. Wyndham’s President EMEA, Dimitris Manikis, said: “We are so proud of your commitment to our environment as demonstrated by reaching this certification level. Your dedication to the Wyndham Green Certification Programme helps preserve our natural resources and reduce our environmental footprint. Every time you successfully complete a level of the programme, you will continue to see mounting benefits that can help you reduce cost, increase recognition, stay competitive and drive revenue.” The hotel’s General Manager, Fabio De Barros, said: “Now’s the time to keep pushing forward and work towards completing Level 3 Proficient, which includes using green cleaning products, further reducing energy waste, and advanced water conservation practises.” This follows on from being awarded a 2022 Best of Ramada by Wyndham Award earlier this year.

The eCam facilitates electronic locking for quarter-turns and other latching without the need to change doors or panels on machine controls, machine guards, control and data housings, so ensuring major time and cost savings over the alternative of reinstalling new cabinets. eCam is UL and DIN certified. Applications for eCam include trailers, mobile homes and RVs where it enables multiple locking/unlocking from a remote central point. For further information, visit www.emka.com

On this occasion Dimitris Manikis, Wyndham’s President EMEA, said: “This award is a testament to you and your hotel team’s efforts to continuously deliver guests an unforgettable experience. The passion and dedication of our hotels to deliver a continuous service level of excellence is what we are most proud of and for which we are truly grateful.” Fabio added: “To be recognised once this year was an achievement; to be recognised twice is truly an honour. “This is testament to the dedication and hard work of our team here at the Ramada. With their continued support, we will strive to push forward even further on the Wyndham Green Certification Programme.”
