Passagere akute Rechtsher zinsuffizienz, Angina abdominalis und Aszites bei einem Schitourenwochenende in großer Höhe – Eine Fallstudie Transient Acute Right Heart Failure, Angina Abdominalis and Ascites on a Ski-Touring-Weekend at High Altitude – A Case Study
SUMMARY
Gastro-intestinal complaints such as nausea or vomiting are not extraordinary symptoms in short-term high-altitude tourists, but when a 45-year old female mountaineer underwent severe, colic abdominal pains resembling acute abdomen at the 3rd day of a ski-touring weekend at high altitude in the Ötztal Alps, she was evacuated by helicopter with an emergency physician to the nearest hospital in Zams/Tirol. Despite intensive diagnostic imaging a final diagnosis could not be established. Inflammatory serological parameters were within normal limits and her complaints decreased with spasmoanalgetic medication. Shortly after discharge, she was admitted to Hospital of Elisabethinum in Linz for recent chest pains. Those, and her residual abdominal symptoms resolved and imaging findings normalized until complete recovery without specific therapy in a few days. Keywords: Transient acute right heart failure, subclinical high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), pleural effusion, ascites, high-altitude, acute mountain sickness (AMS)
