How’s it going, Snow Leopards! I hope everyone is having an amazing week so far! I can’t believe we’re in October, time sure does fly! As News Editor, I have been working on making more graphics pop out as well as adding new graphics that correspond to each month’s theme. With the help from the LTG, I try to incorporate pages that are inclusive towards members in the division such as a spotlight questionnaire, and hopefully more related topics in the future! I encourage you all to make some progress on a goal you have set, or if not, consider making a goal! :) It can be related to school, work, a club, or for yourself. It’s gonna be a busy year! Most importantly, don’t forget to find ways on getting more involved in your club! Fall Rally is just around the corner, so be on the lookout for that! Our monthly newsletters are always in need of articles and visuals, so don’t be afraid to submit one in! In this issue of Leaping into the News, you will find out about the DLT’s experience in their positions, learning more about your division and the district, articles from your division, and recaps. Happy Reading!

Serving with Gratitude,

2021-2022 News Editor

Happy October, Snow Leopards! I hope you’re all doing well! With a new month comes new events, meetings and overall, new Key Club experiences and opportunities! Please continue to participate in all Key Club events and invite your friends to join our amazing organization. Key Club has a lot to offer and it would be awesome to welcome new members to our Division! It is officially dues season which means that all new and returning members should be submitting their dues to their respective club. Please work to recruit new members in order for our division to reach our 200 dues paid member goal! Throughout the past month, our Division has worked hard to plan some exciting events for you all! We will be having our Division Council Meeting (DCM) on October 24th where we will be playing games, completing a service project and more! We hope you can join us for this exciting event! I hope everyone has an amazing month! Remember to stay motivated, work hard and take breaks. I can’t wait to see you all at our October DCM! Feel free to shoot me a text or email if you have any questions about anything Key Club or non-Key Club related. Stay cool Snow Leopards! :)

Leaping through Service,

2021-2022 Lieutenant Governor

Hello Everyone! This school year has gotten off to a good start and we're all feeling pretty confident that our year will be the best yet! At my school, SLOHS, we've been anxiously waiting for our Club Rush which will signify the start of our club at school. We've been intently working on building a community at our school and recruiting new members in order to increase our club size. We've also had an amazing time volunteering in our city especially by helping out the food bank collect fresh produce. Our club is ready to take on this fall season by volunteering and serving our community! As a part of the DLT, I am looking forward to the Fall Rally and RTC! I have had an amazing time working with all of my fellow peers and collaborating together!

2021-2022 Executive Assistant

Hey Snow Leopards! Hope you guys have been having a great month so far! I can’t believe it’s already October and we are getting closer to the end of the year! As an update, I have been learning a lot about my position as an Executive Assistant and have been working on communicating and reaching out to our division clubs and setting myself up. I have been managing reminder emails and meetings with our Lieutenant Governor and as well as with our Division Leadership Team. As a DLT officer, I plan to keep myself busy by answering questions you guys may have and making sign-up forms for our upcoming events and as well as many other things! I’m looking forward to our October DCM and I am very excited to meet more of you! As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have!

Hello Key Clubbers! I am so excited for the upcoming months as more and more clubs are becoming more active in their communities. As of now, I am working on making our social media a better resource for you. A new series of weekly tips will provide ideas for growing your membership, member engagement, fundraising tips, and service project ideas, as well as more spotlights on the projects your clubs are participating in! If you have any questions or ideas that you would like to suggest, feel free to reach out! My job is to make Key Club a better experience for you.

Hey Snow Leopards! As the school year continues, we are just getting started on our first division fundraiser! We have decided that we will be fundraising with Chipotle. The date is yet to be determined, but we will have one location in SLO at Madonna Rd, and one location in Santa Maria at Betteravia Road. A third of all proceeds from Key Clubbers will go toward division funds! Stay tuned for future updates on division fundraising! I look forward to seeing everyone at our October DCM on the 24th!

Provided by Jeremy Lee Oani (ERHS) With the 2021-2022 school year finally underway as normal, the Righetti Key Club has finally been able to go 100% with things to do now that there are no restrictions with COVID-19. On August 27, we were able to finally do an in-person service event through the Honkey-Tonk Fundraiser Dinner. This was a very successful service event with more ERHS Key Club members attending compared to last year’s service event. In the event, we basically just helped prepare and serve food to people who attended. As things are finally getting underway, we are already planning ways in which we can do service throughout the community. One way we have proposed was the idea of attending the upcoming Santa Maria service event. In this, we will be basically helping the Serve Santa Maria organization in assisting the elderly and disabled homeowners. We are also planning to attend the upcoming APA Cool Hand Lukes service event. Another thing that we are planning to do to help fundraiser for our club is through Krispy Kreme BOGO cards. This will help us greatly so that we are able to do more great things through the club. Now that we are at school, we are proud to announce that we now have at least 30 members in active attendance of the club since everything is now in-person!

Honky Tonk Event Provided by Nathaniel De Francia (PVHS) A service event that our school decided to participate was the Honky Tonk Event that was held in Santa Maria. For this service project, members from the clubs in Santa Maria came together and helped serve food to the people during this event, clean up the place, and to set everything up. The high schools that were there included Pioneer Valley, Righetti, and Santa Maria Recreation and Park. Everyone there had a great time and everything went smoothly. All the guests who attended the event thanked the Key Club members in their participation and hard work throughout their event. Overall, this event was a success and we had about 15 members from our club who attended!

Firstfruits Farm Provided by Finn Westley (SLOHS) We are happy to introduce our new ongoing service project in partnership with First Fruits Farm. Volunteers from our San Luis Obispo club will follow instructions from farm leaders at the event and will be given the supplies necessary to pick the produce that they are instructed to. The fresh produce collected during this event is then donated to the San Luis Obispo Food Bank and other organizations in need. This has been a fun event for our club and it has been even greater knowing that we are giving back to our community !

Update Service Hours 1,096/3,000 HOURS

Fundraising TBD/$1,000

Membership TBD/200

Please continue participating in service events so we can reach our goal! The school year has begun so please work with your club to fundraise and recruit new members!

“I joined Key Club during my sophomore year of high school, and now I completely regret not joining earlier. I used to think of Key Club as just another club, but Key Club helps make a difference in people’s lives through community service. I knew I just had to become more involved with this club, so I broke out of my comfort zone and ran for treasurer. I’d like to point out that before I joined Key Club, I always isolated myself and would dread socializing. But once I took action and said my speech in front of 60 virtual faces, I never felt so confident in my life. This one step got me the role of Pioneer Valley’s Key Club Treasurer, and only helped gain confidence in applying for a job, talking more with people, and gave me the courage to even run for the DLT team. I wanted to make my mark on such an impactful club, and since I am so passionate about Key Club, for the first time in my life, I wasn’t scared to go outside my comfort zone. Now that I am a Division Event Coordinator, I have never been so happy to be part of something huge for not only myself but the people Key Club helps.”

RUBI ORDUNA D24/29 Event Coordinator Pioneer Valley Treasurer

“I joined Key Club during my sophomore year. At first, I joined Key Club because I needed community service, but I found a greater value in helping others and being active inside my community. One of my favorite events have been the ones held in the Minami center such as the Aktion Dances. The last dance I attended was a dinner for adults with special disabilities. My favorite memory was making others smile while serving food. Serving others and making someone smile in the process is priceless. Now, as president, I look forward to pushing our club to accomplish more service hours and continue impacting others to serve!”
