nc packs4 patriots Support Our Local Heroes

We are a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices.

Photo left: We love seeing these smiles!

Packing care packages for deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. We also provide support for troops at home, their families and veterans. We have had a very busy year, while working through the challenges of Covid. Some of the challenges include losing the support of organizations who traditionally support us with fundraisers. We had to stop volunteer groups due to our small space which put more work on our team of volunteers who worked singularly or in small teams. We met these challenges while supporting troops through deployments, quarantines, homeland activations. We continued with support from caring volunteers and donors who want our troops to know that America cares about and appreciates their service. We will be posting our yearly statistics soon. Please continue to support our troops by: ~ order needed items from our Amazon list ~ support us with financial donations for postage ~ send cards and letters of support Ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need. Please don’t forget our military members who are serving away from home and family this year. Thank you!

Photo above: We always enjoy supporting our troops! Photo right: Our volunteers included our energizer squad with new volunteers. 378 goody bags were assembled with laughter and music!

Photo above: We have many volunteers and all deserve huge salutes of appreciation. 28 April 21 William and Laura Jackson received The Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Photos left and below: Thank you Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church Pollocksville for 50 beautiful July 4th goody bags and postage funds!

Troops who are deployed and have a confirmed address are welcome to request care packages! Send name, address, and stop mail date to us by email to ncp4p@yahoo.com - information is only used for mailing labels and kept secure. You can also ask for special requests or needs and we will try to fill those. We ask that you let us know when packages arrive.

We need you to join our team to support our local heroes in 2021! Please email or call us for more info. Thank you very much for your continued support!

Livin' The Life FRANKLIN, NC My wife wanted to ride and see some waterfalls recently. We left Stanley, NC around 7:30 am jumped on the Big roads and headed to Franklin, NC for the BEST Motorcycle combo in the state! A great road to ride, Hwy 64 between Franklin and Highlands, with several waterfalls right beside the road. Some pull offs for them are small and narrow, but Dry Falls and Bridal Veil Falls have larger areas, especially Dry Falls. We then took a side road and bypassed downtown Highlands and headed towards Whitewater Falls in Sapphire, NC. From there we went up 215 to the Parkway. We rode over to the Pisgah Inn, only to find out we just missed the last lunch seating (3:45) and supper at 5:00 was only open to hotel guests (same rule for breakfast). So, down 276, thru Pisgah Forest and by Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls (no pictures due to no parking). Across 64 to Hendersonville for supper at Binion’s Roadhouse in Hendersonville. One of the best places we have eaten at in a while! From there, back on 64 to Bat Cave, Chimney Rock (Hickory Nut Falls) and Lake Lure. Then back on the Big road, US 74 and we arrived home just before dark. Several waterfalls, some great motorcycle roads, beautiful scenery, fantastic meal and a little over 400 miles .... equals one GREAT DAY with my wife on a motorcycle in NC!!!

Happy Graduation

Was a great ride! Awesome showing of support for this young lady for her graduation! We did a ride by in Stedman NC and there were cars, trucks, and bikes for miles.

Story & photos: Joey Eason BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, NC Friday night, I had a dream about my wife. She was wearing her riding clothes, and like so many times before, she handed me my helmet and said, let’s go ride. So, Saturday morning after coffee, I got us on the bike and took off. A final farewell ride together. I took our old routes, running the back roads up to the Parkway, then down the Parkway to some of the spots we loved. I laid her to rest, scattering her ashes at some of those spots. Saying goodbye for the final time was just as hard as saying it the first time. Now she is where she loved to be, and I still miss her dearly. Rest well my Love, I miss you.

Raleigh Clayton Area Riders - RCA Memorial Day Ride

On Memorial Day, May 31st, 26 bikes from Raleigh Clayton Area Riders met at the Sheetz in Benson, N.C. We then proceeded to the VFW post 9103 in Spring Lake, led by long time member, “Even” Steven where we met up with over 50 more bikes! From there we then took a tour of other VFW posts and Sandhills Veteran Cemetery. When we arrived at the Cemetery there were mourning families there and the group riding through brought smiles and tears to the families faces. Then we headed back to post 9103 for hamburgers and hotdogs and a Memorial Day ceremony. RCA Riders Co- founder Greg Toback was approached by the ride leader and asked if we could provide

blocking support for the close to 100 bikes as we rode through Fayetteville and out to Sandhills Veteran Cemetery. Greg Toback and RCA Riders founding members Glenn Raybon and “Even” Steven took lead on blocking, along with assistance from other riders from verteran riders groups.

Story and photos: Samantha Raybon

It was a very enjoyable and safe ride allowing all participants to take their time to fully understand why we were there and the sacrifices made by the men and women we were honoring on that day. RCA Riders were very honored to be able to participate and help with this ride. At the end of the ride there was no better way to end the day than with some ice cream at Paleteria Reyes Ice Cream in Dunn, N.C.

Raleigh Clayton Area Riders is a 1000 plus member Facebook page founded by Greg Toback and Dan McCormick to provide a page where local riders can come to look for and post rides. We have day rides all the way to multi day rides that include trips to the mountains, bike fests across the united states and everything in between.

LIFE Took my Harley for a late afternoon and evening ride yesterday from Raleigh down to Carolina Beach and back. Stopped at the Carolina Crab House and got some boiled seafood and damn was it good, I already want to make a return trip just for it! Stopped in at the local Harley dealer for some poker chips, beautiful themed interior. Then went to Britts Donuts. People back home saw my post and begged me to bring some donuts back so I shoved four dozen in the saddle bag and brought them back to Raleigh.

Wake County Speedway Raleigh, NC WearCrete Racing and Tobacco road Harley-Davidson is excited to return to Wake County Speedway Saturday, September 18th. Vintage 2 Wheel Thunder is a race formatted off Billy Lane’s “Son’s of Speed” in Florida. Some of the bikes date back to the early 1900’s and range into the 1950’s. About the board track bikes... These are bikes with 61” engines, no brakes, no clutch, or gears!!! These bikes get push started and to stop the rider puts his or her feet down. We have a “stock” class and a “hot” class. Some of these bikes are highly modified and extremely fast. The 45” class are mostly Harley-Davidson motorcycles that range from the 1940’s thru 1950’s. These bike do have a kick starter and a clutch, however as with the board track bikes, the 45’s also don’t have brakes. Wake County Speedway will host our 2nd event in conjunction with Capital City Bike Fest in Raleigh. Make sure to check out all the events at Wake County Speedway as well as Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson. We have racers from Florida, NC, VA, and other areas coming to try their luck at the Wake County Speedway Bullring. Ebay Jake : is the Son’s of Speed defending champ and multi time winner of those events, sweeping both the Hot 61’ and 45” class last race. Look for Jake up front. Moonshiner Crazy Chuck: will return in the 45” class. Last time at WCS Chuck suffered a broken belt during the main event. Most people will know Chuck from the reality show, Moonshiners.

Russ Carvalho: The defending Hot 61” winner here at WCS. Russ was riding a Rhett Rotten 45” last race but has since moved over to the WearCrete racing team with Ebay Jake and Jody Perewitz. Stephen “Hotshot” Artez will be coming from Florida for his 2nd time at WCS. Steve has been doing a lot of work on his bike and is looking better and better every race. Fast Freddie Bollwage is coming from Florida, as well. Freddie has made some big changes to his bikes and looking stronger for this year. Let’s see what he can do at this ¼ mile bullring. Never count him out!!! Tony Agosto is making the trip up to WCS, as well this year. Let’s see what Tony has up his sleeve for Vintage 2 Wheel Thunder. Luke Atkinson will be making his way from West Virginia to tackle the ¼ mile bullring. Always excited to have new people at our event. Plus more!!! Vintage 2 Wheel Thunder is a family fun event!!! Buy a pit pass and come meet all the riders and crews. Check out their Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/Bigdround

The Bullw Chron

By: Bob Seymour Whenever I travel I try to make a point of meeting new people wherever I happen to stop whether it’s at gas stations, truck stops, rest areas or restaurants but especially at Harley dealerships. I rarely ever have to do anything to start a conversation with anyone because people like the looks of Bullwinkle and are quick to give him a compliment that almost always leads to a conversation that results in a new friendship. There’s a meme that says “It’s Amazing The Number Of People I’ve Met Because Of My Motorcycle” and I can say without question that I would not have met the thousands of people I know today if not for my Bromance with Bullwinkle. I thought about that meme a few years ago and I realized I had been given another resource to be used as an influence in the world. I don’t believe it was a coincidence that I met a very unique woman in Kansas City who owned a Harley dealership at about the same time I was thinking about that meme. I stopped at her dealership to have some warranty work done on Bullwinkle and I was absolutely blown away by how friendly and professional her staff was. From the moment I shut Bullwinkle off someone was walking towards me with a friendly smile, a hello and a bottle of water. They didn’t wait for me to come inside and they never once tried to sell me anything, they just made sure I felt welcome and important and I really appreciated that. While they were taking care of Bullwinkle I went inside and walked around to check things out and as I did I began to meet other employees and some customers. I was more than impressed with her staff and the atmosphere in the dealership. One of the first things I noticed in the showroom was her logo that says “Feel The Power”, the first thing I thought was that it was a reference to the horsepower of a Harley. It was on or about the 3rd time I stopped at the dealership that I met Gail, the owner of Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview Missouri, and she was kind enough to take a few minutes to talk with me. Now whenever I come through Kansas City I stop and say hi to her and a couple of friends who work there.

26

“FEEL TH

When I came through there a couple months ago I stopped by to see Gail again but this time I asked her for a little of her time so I could interview her about her recent change from a Harley Dealership to a power sports dealer for this issue of Behind Barz. She was more than happy to give me some time to talk about the transition into the new endeavor. My first question to her was how difficult was it to make the decision to drop her Harley franchise. I was blessed by the first words she spoke; “Well, as a strong Christian…”. She said she knew the time was coming and she was confident that it was the right move for her but it was still a difficult decision to make. She went on to say that though she dropped her Harley franchise Harley-Davidson was always going to be her favored brand of scooter and she was emphatic to say that Harley-Davidson headquarters was still solidly behind her and that she supports them 100% as well. As the interview continued she referenced her flaming eyes logo, “Feel The Power”, and began to explain the meaning behind the design. She said that the obvious meaning wasn’t it at all, it has nothing to do with horsepower and everything to do with the power each individual has to influence the culture they live in. It was very plain to me from the first time we met that Gail didn’t look at her business as just a way to make a living, it was a calling on her life to be an asset to her community and I believe that perspective is why she has been so successful. Gail is one of many bikers/business owners I’ve had the honor of meeting and becoming friends with and each of those owners are committed to using their businesses to help build up their communities. I’m convinced that the majority of these biker business owners got their love for

Livin ' The Life BehindBarz.com

HE POWER”

their community from being bikers. The code we live by is founded in Love, Loyalty, Honor and Respect for our God, our family and our country. Those attributes define the moral core of the biker family and those attributes are the foundation of a worldwide brother/sisterhood that I am proud to be a member of. We all have the Power that Gail’s logo symbolizes but I really don’t know if we realize how much potential we have to change our communities. We’ve been stereotyped by Hollywood and TV as less than desirable members of society but if the truth were told society would see that most bikers are really just crusty marshmallows. We wear leather, ride scooters with loud pipes, we swear, we smoke and we like to party hard, but we also do things to support our communities. We do toy runs for children’s hospitals, we raise money for long term care facilities and we do poker runs for virtually every charity known. I’ve been involved with poker runs to help veterans, terminally ill kids through The Make A Wish Foundation, homeless shelters and animal shelters and I’ve been on more rides to raise money to help individuals than I can count. As the 2021 riding season gets fully underway I hope my “crusty family” along with those of you who “look normal” to the world will use their power of influence to impact society. Hollywood used their influence to create a less than pleasant stereotype of us but nothing is more powerful than the Love, Loyalty, Honor and Respect that defines who we are so lets do all we can to discredit Hollywood by spreading the Love, being Loyal to our commitments to God, our Family and our country and by honoring our neighbors and brothers/sisters and showing respect for everyone everywhere.

A

SHENANDOAH BAPTIST CHURCH SCRIPTURE RUN 2021

pril 24,2021 was a bit dreary with rain threatening us for the second year in a row. We again, prayed the rain into the late afternoon and God answered us with exactly that. We are so blessed and thankful for the ones that came on their bikes and bikers and friends that just came. We started the day with our Prayer Circle and we were led in prayer by our youth pastor, Zach Zervas. First bikes were out at 10:00 am and a second group at 11:00 am. We enjoyed a 60 mile ride through Nash and Wilson counties. The stops this year included: Tom’s Two Wheel, Cyclemax, Black Cat Harley-Davidson and JD’s Grocery and Grill ending up back at Shenandoah Baptist Church where the rest of the fun began. Each rider was treated to a swag bag this year and then a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings!

Above: Prayer cicrcle led by youth pastor, Zach Zervas.

We had over 45 sponsors/donators this year with over 60 door prizes. The big take this year was a 2012 Fiat 500 Don’t want to forget the silent cake auction. We had over Sports car that was donated to help us in our mission to 8 items being bid on and a couple created quite a bidding raise money for the Shenandoah youth. war. Thank you to the bakers and the bidders. The GRAND PRIZE winner for the car was Destry Leonard. Destry then re-gifted the car to his Mom. Way to go Destry!!!

The first place prize for the run was $125 won by Dianne Nines. The “worst” hand was won by Sarah Brown for $75. We also had the largest 50/50 total of over $400 so $200 went to Catina Cary who immediately donated the money back to the kids. Thanks Catina! In total, with the run, the door prizes, 50/50, cake auction, concessions and the car tickets, we raised over $10,000. We thank each and every person that bought even 1 ticket and we ask God’s blessings so that this money will be used to HIS glory and HIS only. God blessed us with this idea of a Scripture Run over 4 years ago and it has grown and evolved every year. It is a lot of hard work but the rewards are so great. Many kids will be going to camp that otherwise might not be able to afford to go. If even one life is changed because of all this, then we are truly blessed and thankful.

Next year will be here before you know it and we hope you will plan on joining us. story & photos: Lori Davis

Livin' The

LIFE Betty (Flinn) Smith from Belleville, WV Two or three months ago my Grandma was only given a couple weeks to be with us - they didn’t think she’d make it to Easter. They’ve told her this before. She always says I’m not ready to go yet - I want to make it to 100!

Story & Photos: Jimi Buckley

At 87 years old and barely able to hear or see this woman finds joy any way she can. She loves feeding her birds, putting on a feed for her family, telling jokes, participating in shenanigans and just about anything that will put a smile on her kids or dozens of grand and great grandkids faces! Even when the Dr.’s tell her the deck is stacked against her she always pushes through determined to make it to 100! I only recently learned how to ride and still learning. I LOVE IT. Grandma is always up for fun so of course she asked for the helmet and a photo op! As soon as I get the hardware to attach my sissy bar I plan to take her for a ride!

Let us know how or why you are Livin' The Life We would love to hear your story! You can email us or send us a message on facebook: behindbarzmm@suddenlink.net www.facebook.com/BehindBarzMag No matter what...keep Livin’ The Life Behind Barz! ~Doobie

Field of Flags

REMBRANCE on the RIVER first annual Memorial Event at Weldon Mills Distillery and River Falls Park in Weldon, North Carolina did not go off without a hitch but it did meet its major goal. Reflect, Recognize, Respect has been our Mantra from the beginning. We had weather issues which brought tents flying in the air, inches of rain which forced more weight than most tents could bear, we had concerns about COVID and bike riders who were not comfortable with the long ride and crowds upon arrival, and yet we did Reflect, Recognize and Respect our Fallen Heroes and the Gold Star Families left behind. We ended up providing respite to about 50 riders who did make the trek. They rested in the shade they visited the Field of Flags and displays beginning with First in Freedom and the Revolutionary War up to and beyond Vietnam. They stood in respect as Scout Troop 144 completed the ritual prior to the Retirement of used flags. They then proceed to retire over 500 flags provided by local business and citizens as their useful life and come to an end. Each rider was offered a bagged lunch of fresh cooked hamburger, cold water, chips and additional snacks and sweets for the road ahead. We were honored that AMVETS National Ryders Commander and AMVETS Nation Ryders Chaplain both stopped and paid homage, placed their personal Memorial in the Field of Flags and Reflected with some of their own stories and experiences.

We were equally honored to have James Gregory, original organizer of the largest group of bike riders, Ride for the Wall, who have consistently come together and ride as a unit to The Wall, for the past 33 years. James too placed his personal Memorial in the Field of Flags. Oh my, did he have stories of his active-duty time, past rides and just the comradery of the group and continuing to fulfill their mission, Never Forget, always honor and remember. We were profoundly moved by the participation of all three of these veterans in REMBRANCE on the RIVER. They each in their own way allowed REMEMBRANCE on the RIVER to be a part of their personal desire and need to Reflect, Recognize and Respect. Therefore, we will be here again for the second annual REMEMBRANCE on the River May 26—29, 2022. You see we had many veterans and local families and travelers passing through who also brought their stories of loved ones who served, their own stories of service, family member and high school friends. Each who attended stopped to Reflect, Recognize and Respect. They placed their personal Memorial in the Field of Flags, the visited other displays and with us they dealt with the rain and Sunday’s unusually cold weather as they each had personal feelings, reasons and meanings to ensure they stopped by. It was a true blessing to listen to a father explain what the Field of Flags meaning was

all about as they drill a hole in the ground and placed their flag. It was refreshing to hear a veteran say we had all kinds of weather in Nam so a figured I could still check out your Remembrance and have a minute with my buddies. Others just commented and thanked us for not closing just because of showers and wind. These are examples of just a few of the reasons why REMBRANCE on the RIVER will continue to be an annual event. We encourage all of you to put REMEMBRANCE on the RIVER May 26-29, 2022 on your calendar. We will be at Weldon Mills Distillery and River Falls Park in Weldon NC. We will have displays and Memorials, we will have the Field of Flags and together we will Reflect, Recognize and Respect. In Closing we want to thank the local community for their support and donations. We want to thank Sheriff Wes Trip and Scot Hall with their team of deputies who cooked hamburgers and put together bagged lunches. Also, many thanks to Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine for their promotion and coverage of Rememberance on the River. We want to offer an incredibly special Thank You to Bruce Tyler and the entire staff at Weldon Mills for their financial support, their personal support though out the entire weekend. Whatever we needed magically happened. THANK YOU.

From The Mind of You may have never had any road rash, and if you have never had any, then my hats is off to you. I’ve had my fair share. Which it doesn’t take a lot to fill your bucket and have all the road rash you can want, but I love riding so I don’t see me stopping any time soon. I will never forget my first taste of road rash. I was 19 years old. I had just acquired a 1978 Honda silver Wing. I was just really sinking my claws into street bikes. I’ve always wanted a Harley but my bike had two wheels and I was happy to have it. Although the bike was definitely a 70’s model being all square and box shaped. I wanted to do some modifications to make it look a bit, well.. better looking. I didn’t have a lot of experience working on bikes, but I figured how hard can it be. YEAH! I was young and stupid.

Big Ed aka 2Timer

Hello My Happy People! I hope all is good on your side of the world. It’s been good on my side. Things are once again changing for ol’ 2Timer. I started getting back into bee keeping. I had an opportunity to go after a honey bee swarm that made their new home in a camper. My brother from the club called me up and told me about a bunch of bees had crawled up in his mother’s camper and I was happy to accept the challenge. After a few trips to see what I was working with. I made a plan and I had those bee in my bee hive box and ready to give them some new surroundings. Motorcycles is not my only hobby I guess I can say that I love working with honey bees and it fascinates me to watch them work. Plus, they benefit our world and I like being a small part in their operation. Sad thing, is I’m just beginning so there’s a lot for me to learn. Within the month. They swarmed again and left my hive. I’m guessing when I went to get the bees I didn’t get their queen and when they made a new queen she decided to take them somewhere else. Yet, still it fired my passion up to work with them again and I picked up a hive of bees from a man down the road from my house. So, I’m still in the honey bee business HAHAHA! I dig it. I know it’s not for everybody. I heard it take a special kind of person who wants to be a bee keeper. ‘Cause there’s no doubt you are going to get stung, eventually. I kinda see it the same way as being a biker.

32

I pulled my bike out of the shed and started adjusting crap and I had not idea what I was doing or what I was touching. I figured a man put this together, so why can’t I figure how to do the things I wanted to do with it. I didn’t think ahead at all. This has always been a flaw in my personality for some reason. I just jump in with both feet and let’s see what hell has to offer. I can’t remember in the greatest detail those many years ago of all that I did but somewhere in all my wrenching but I sure as hell wasn’t thinking of my safety. I remember throwing on my skull cap, jumping into a pair of black cowboy boots and firing that Honda up. I had cut the baffles out of the pipes to give the neighborhood a migraine when I drove by. So, oh yeah, its was loud and inappropriate. I LOVED IT! I took off out of my driveway and twisted that ol’ throttle back and just let it eat for the first and second gear. Hey man, it was a GL500. It was eating everything it could, but before I could kick in the third gear, I felt the handle bars shift for a split second and I remember a noise and then I remember the bike stopping and I wasn’t. I flew over the handle bars into the air collecting some frequent flier miles and landing on my back in a field right up the road from my house. I remember wanting to breath. It had knocked every inch of air pressure out of my body. I gasped and gasped but no air was coming back in. I had a bit of panic run though my mind. Once I was able to catch my breath my next concern was breaking the wiring harness that connected my brain to my legs. I just knew I broke my back. Laying there in a creator in a half damped field. I looked down and saw I was able to move my boots. OH, thank you God! I thought and prayed to myself. My stupidity hasn’t killed me yet. It had rained just a few days ago and the field was still wet. This is why I didn’t just splatter my person against the hard ground. I got up and wiped the mud off my arms and made a quick assessment of the damage I inflicted on myself. I had a few cuts from the old cut up corn that was still rotting away in the field and I pulled a muscle in my back. Other than that I was good to go.

Facebook.com/BehindBarzMag

Big Ed... I walked over to my bike and it didn’t hurt it too bad. I bent the handle bars and broke off the reflectors and a mirror but other than a few scratches in the paint It was okay, too. It seemed I didn’t do the best job on my front brakes and it let me know. Walking away from that experience didn’t just leave my memory. I could have flew up and landed on the damn road or even worse, in front of an oncoming car. I learned respect that day. This machine can kill you! I understood that I needed to look at this whole biker thing in a different light. Yes, it’s fun and I love it, but like any other thing in life, the moment you lose respect for it will be the moment it will remind you. Just like my honey Bees. They carry on with their lives to make honey and to protect the hive. The moment you forget and think you can just be disrespectful they will teach you respect the hard way. I learned that way too well, also. Fourteen stings to the back of my neck and the top of my head. All because of lack of experience and not learning to do things properly. I was trying to get away from them and let me tell you, bees just don’t let you walk away. They will follow you to be sure you understand that they are not going to be F***ed with! I had my daughter with me that day, too. So, she got to learn a lesson at the same time that I did. Don’t worry, she was protected with a bee suit. She just got to watch me trying to hold myself together as a swarm of honey bees were giving me the business! I also want to add, after working nights for five years, I am finally going to get back to day shift. I can not express how much this means to me. I left a company which was going down five years ago. I’ve been trying to get back to days ever since. I’ve worked at three company’s since that time. The company I’m with today has been a blessing to me and my family. So with that being said, I should finally be back on track to get more riding in. We have poker run this coming weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing the sun and get back in the wind. So if you see me out, throw that hand out for a good ol’ biker’s wave. I’m happy to send it right back to ya! Well that’s all I got at the moment. We are just beginning the summer and I’m sure to be adding more rides and making more memories to share with you happy people! Be safe out there and I’ll be seeing you Behind Barz...

The Cruisin’ The Coast Rally “Kick Off” Party was just getting started on Monday, 10 May 2021, at The Sneaky Beagle...and it started with a blast! The Sneaky Beagle along with Myrtle Beach HD and The Harley Shop at The Beach provided free food, live music, door prizes, Rally swag, a beer stein contest and a hot dog eating contest! On Tuesday the Rally party moved on over to Wicked Tuna in Murrells Inlet for the Scenic Rally Sunset Cruise. What a beautiful evening for a cruise on the water, a wonderful meal, open bar, and fellowship with other Rally bikers. If that wasn’t amazing enough, on Wednesday, 12 May, we headed over to Eggs Up Grill in N. Myrtle Beach for Grumpy’s Biker Breakfast! Deliscious way to start the day! On Thursday evening Bike Night (presented by Steel Horse Law) was held at Wicked Tuna in Murrells Inlet. They provided a biker menu and drink specials. Of course there was lots of door prizes and Rally giveaways! On 14 May it was Friday Biker-Lympics at Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom in Murrells Inlet! There was free food, live music, and biker games! On Saturday, 15 May, it was the Scenic Rally Ride that started at Calli Bakers in Myrtle Beach and the After Party was at The Boathouse, also located in Myrtle Beach! There were plenty of door prizes, Rally giveaways, and free event t-shirts to the first 150 riders! There was soooo much going on at The Cruisin’ The Coast Rally this year, as always! Hope you were able to attend the many happenin’ spots!

Shoutout to the Myrtle Beach local, David for beating everyone out on the last pilsner holding contest! Well done brother. Huge thanks to everyone who came out today!

the good news! ”The Intention of Jesus Man” In 1970 my family lived in the basement of my grandparent’s home in Omaha, Nebraska. An alley behind the house divided us to the back of a Harley dealership owned by AMF. My uncle was a motorcycle mechanic out of my grandparent’s garage. From the age of 10 motorcycles were all around me. An MC operated behind the dealership and I would hang out, sweep floors, be their gofer for tools, and watch a lot. I had the opportunity to ride, learn, and understand their code of brotherhood. A biker who was in the M.C. took me under his wing. He looked out for me, showed me respect and I respected him. I watched him closely and listened to what he said. He protected everyone, even if they messed up. I’m sure later he told them what they did wrong. If he did something wrong he would admit it, I guess those are the qualities of a strong leader. There were certain days and nights that I could not hang around. There were days when there were 100’s of bikes parked everywhere and the brotherhood I witnessed I would dream about. One Saturday, there was a fight in the parking lot 1 block away. The parking lot had a 10 foot fence on two sides and a brick wall on the others. The fight started, and the Omaha Police Department showed up and locked the gate and left them alone. No one was killed that day but a lot of blood was spilled. That dealership never had any more trouble and moved to another location a number of years later. Most of the M.C. members gave me attention and one of the ladies told me when I got older she’d be my old lady, LOL. I’ll never forget “Rocksan”. Anyway, I looked up to “Bikerman” he taught me a lot about the biker world and I would try to model the meekness he had, that let others know it wasn’t weekness. He believed about Jesus. He would mention Him at times pointing to the Cross on his bicep. At times I wanted to be just like him. He told me just be yourself and be respectful at all times. Fast forward some 51 years, 8 motorcycles later, club rides, solo rides, event rides, EasyRiders, Sturgis, Patching in with Heaven Saints M.M. in 2015. I was tired of running from my past.

Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak Thee Redeemed House biker Church

God chose me to Pastor Thee Redeemed House in Kenly, NC and hold the 95 Truckstop Chapter NC of Heaven Saints M.M. I still look back at “Bikeman’s” character, he had everyone’s respect even those who didn’t want to. They just didn’t understand him. I see now that he was trying to be the best he could be knowing Christ in his situation. I can see some of that now. In God’s word “The Bible” tells of a man who was and is the Son of God, about how Jesus learned obedience by the things he suffered (Hebrew 5:8) Jesus became qualified to be the one and only high priest in Heaven for all people, He was without sin yet experienced temptations. He fully experienced living a human life as we do and he fulfilled in obedience his Father’s will for Him, and was perfect. The disciple Apostle John recorded that Jesus only did what the Father did, He learned from His Father how to live on earth. (John 5:19) Jesus told all of the Disciples, “If you’ve seen me you have seen the Father. (John 14:9) Jesus lived everything that the Father is, He copied His behavior, isn’t that the sincerest form of flattery, to copy someone else. Jesus fully respected His Father, he learned from Him, walked with Him and understood From Him, and we are to follow Jesus in the same way. He is the way the truth and the life. Yes, I believe Jesus was a Biker. Not like my brother friend “Bikerman”, but my friend “Jesus Man”. Jesus’ example was to follow His Father, our example is to follow Jesus. That was His intention a “Desire to ride just like Him”.
