The Secret of Happiness Happiness is not linked to a person or a thing. Happiness is knowing what your purpose is, knowing you can manifest whatever you desire. Choosing to focus on the brighter side of life, accomplishing what you set your mind to. Happiness is releasing negative energy and releasing the need to know all the answers. To know that there is no greater goal than just being. Happiness is trusting your inner self and that you create your own happiness. Happiness is just being. By: Chelsey .L.Stailing

LOVE THE SPACE YOU ARE IN NOW By Anja Lavigne

Striving to be happy and positive in our day to day life is a constant goal for many. We make life adjustments to bring in the optimal feelings of happiness. How conscious are you when it comes to being in love with your space? Do you think much about creating a positively energetic space within your home? With the current housing market issues, you might not be living in the space you have imagined and moving to the next level of your desired abode may not be that simple. You may feel there is not enough physical space; maybe you are raising a family in a two bedroom condo or a young

adult still living at home with your parents. You may feel your home is not in your desired community or there is a real need for a renovation such as a new kitchen, as your cabinet doors are falling off but there are no funds to do a renovation. Any of these scenarios can create feelings of frustration, envy, overwhelm, resentment and anger. It is so easy to slip into negative emotions since you are in this environment constantly and reminded of what isn’t working for you. Being in a negative state clearly won’t change your situation and isn’t healthy. The energy from constantly feeling these

emotions can also lead to things such as depression. When you are feeling stuck there is usually an overwhelming sense of ‘being here forever’, which spirals you further into negativity. If you can’t upsize, move or change your existing cabinetry or bathroom, you can change your mindset. This one small change can make a huge difference. Instead of feeling stuck, create a happy atmosphere in the home you are in now. This will change how you view your space and bring in more love, lightness, harmony and peace. Here are some simple things you can do in your home that will raise a positive vibe.

Give Gratitude We are one with our living space. When we respect our space, show love by keeping it clean, clutter free and not ridiculing it or speaking in the negative (look at these awful cabinets!) you will find your space really has your back and you will find that there is an ebb and flow. Creating a spiritual sanctuary in our space allows for the flow of peace and tranquility and will really aid in you enjoying and loving your current home. Write a gratitude letter of all the things you do love about your home. Ask yourself what attracted you here in the first place. This will remind you of your original desire and will take you back to the time when you were excited to move there. It’s likely you won’t be in your existing home forever, but for now appreciate and respect the home you are in. Bring in joy, laughter and community. Consider the memories you are making in the space instead of focusing on all of the things you don’t like about it.Meditate and ask your home what it is saying. Really connect. Does your space reflect your philosophy, style, personality? When you entertain, can your friends and family say yes this fits you perfectly? If not, make some small changes like moving some furniture, rearranging pictures or moving trinkets.

Make a Plan You are here now, maybe not forever but for now this is your palace. Why not enjoy the space you are in now and at the same time create some goals for your future new space? Let’s begin with the home you are living in now. Identify what is working and make a list of the pros and cons. Perhaps your current home allows you to have disposable income because you are living with your parents or a guardian, in a smaller apartment with low rent, or the commute to work is under thirty minutes. Perhaps you have low maintenance fees because you are a tenant or you love the parks and shops all around you and your home is quick to clean. Next, make a list of what you feel is not working for your home to be the sanctuary you desire. You could include the need for more space, privacy or not wanting to deal with a landlord.

Make Your Space Feel Bigger and Happier Here are some simple tips that can aid you in making you feel more positive in your space now. 1. Multipurpose furniture For example, use a coffee table that also has storage. A pull-out couch is great for overnight guests or if you live in a studio space; bedroom at night, living room by day. 2. Make it feel bigger Declutter and clean. Cleanliness is so critical; you can live in a palace but if it isn’t clean you don’t want to be in it. Often we aren’t aware of what an unswept floor feels like until we actually sweep it. Make note of your before and after feelings. You will be amazed. Declutter clothes and things that you don’t use. We often say “I will use this some day” and more often than not, ‘someday’ never arises and we find ourselves eventually parting with the article we have clung onto for five years, living with clutter unnecessarily. Once your home is clutter-free and clean you will most certainly feel a lightness. 3. Get it off the floor! Clear as much from your floor; the more floor space you reveal, the larger your space will feel. In fact, you will instantly have a feeling of more space. Mount your television on the wall, use closet organizers, wall mount a fold-out kitchen table and get creative with storage. 4. Brighten it up! Use mirrors and add lower lighting throughout your space. We usually avoid dark rooms and by lightening up your space, you will feel happy and excited to be in that room. 5. Create a chic space You can use large scale art on one wall with bold colour or wallpaper. Or try an impactful carpet. Always remember less is more. 6. Capture all your senses! Your sense of taste can be highlighted with a clean fridge with good food that brings in happy memories from travels. Make sure your fridge is clean and free of expired items. Smells of favourite candles, incense, essential oil, baked goods and fresh brewed coffee can really bring in a sense of comfort. 7. Set- up home zones Set up specific areas in your home that accommodate multiple functions such as a yoga space, a workout space or storing your gear in an ottoman or in a decorative basket. If you need a home office, flank a console table that is desk height behind your couch so that it is desk by day and side table by night. Remember that smaller spaces are also less expensive to run and more satisfying. As they say, good things come in small packages. More importantly, love the space you are in now! If doing this all on your own seems a little overwhelming, I am here to help! Visit my website to learn more about how I can help you love the space you're in.

June Reading with Intuitive Goddess Priya

Card: Own Your Divine Power This month the energies are supporting us to release our co-dependent relationships and habits. We are encouraged by the Guides to create a healthy interdependence instead. The card also recommends using the crystal Sugilite to invoke spiritual empowerment. For some of us the message from the Guides is to move away from needing to “people please” and to learn and practice honouring your higher self. Some of you are people pleasing in order to feel worthy, validated and needed. The downside is that you are also feeling resentful for all that you are doing for others when you don’t feel you are being appreciated or valued. The Guides invite you to only do things that you can do from a place of no expectation of any sorts in return. Living from a place of no expectation can result in more peace for you. For some of you, the message is to recognize your co-dependency to needing/wanting others to make you happy, feel loved or give you attention. They encourage you to make time to develop ways to create happiness, love and attention to self. This can lead you to learn how to tap into your own inner power, which can provide you with all of the above all day, any day. The Guides wish to remind you that we are all in possession of Divine Power. Part of the purpose of life is to find joyful ways to connect to yours. In love and appreciation, Intuitive Goddess Priya Card Deck: Crystal Angels Author: Doreen Virtue Artwork: Marius Michael-George Publisher: Hay House, Inc.

HAPPY BABY BY: PREMADASA GANGADEEN

Whenever I consider this pose, I can instantly go back into the feeling of embodying it. I’ve practiced it many times, both in a passing flow of postures as well as in an extended hold. It’s been a static hold at times and sometimes a dynamic hold of rocking up and down the spine or side to side at other times. I’ve practiced it since the early days of my life and there is a good chance you have as well! This is a posture which feels the greatest for me as it suits my physical disposition and the story of my body. It also offers some great relief to my back, spine, hips and sacrum. I’m sure that on deeper or more subtle levels it is also serving me in so many ways. Usually when I teach this posture, Ananda Balasana, it figures toward the end of my class as a lead-up to Savasana or Yoga Nidra. I do so to offer an opportunity for a final release of tension and as a reminder that sometimes it is best to assume a child-like perspective within our awareness. This posture implies a vulnerability, surrender and trust toward being nurtured by the posture, the practice and potentially the sense of being cared for by a great benevolent energy within this moment. In many ways it resembles a reversion from the material aspects being a physical manifestation back to a non-physical entity once surrounded by silence and pure awareness or no-thing. There are many variations of Happy Baby and they all will serve you well provided that you maintain a loving and sacred approach to yourself within the posture. Be sure to breathe deeply yet softly in and out of the body as though you are the tiny and precious babe you once were earlier on. Here’s a basic step-by-step instruction to finding yourself within this pose. Enjoy!

1. Lie on your back, knees bent with the soles of your feet flat on the ground and separate them between the width of your hips and shoulders. 2. Extend your arms down the sides of your body so that your fingertips can lightly brush against your heels. 3. Windshield wipe the knees from one side to the next with one knee leading the other (instead of both knees falling over at once). 4. Cross the ankles, hold onto the knees and stir them around in a circle for a few rotations. Recross the ankles and stir in the opposite direction for the same amount of rotations. 5. Reach the fingers behind the knees and draw the knees in toward the chest on the exhalations. Allow the knees to recoil back toward the starting position on the inhalations. Experiment with the sensation of keeping the low back flat to the floor and then letting the tailbone lift and lower according to the breath. 6. Reach your hands to the outer edges of your feet and draw the knees down toward the shoulders, sides or armpits on the exhalations. Arms can either come between the legs or they can remain around the outside of them. Again play with the sensation between keeping the low back into the floor versus allowing it to gently lift and lower on the breath. 7. Rock side to side, hip to hip for five repetitions. 8. Lift the chin to the chest on the exhalations while curling the tailbone off of the floor. Keep the chin at the chest to help maintain a rounded shape to the spine and gently roll back and forth on the spine. Inhale back and exhale forward for five repetitions. 9. Return to a stationary position on your back with knees bent. Some options from here are to remain with knees bent, feet flat or you can join the soles of your feet and allow your knees to fall out to the sides for supine cobbler pose. Prop the outer knees according to your practice. After 510 deep breaths you can either continue with your own practice or come into Savasana as a deeper resting pose.

5 Foods That Will Help Put You in a Better Mood By: Aria de Lima Sometimes, things just happen. Maybe work is hectic, you spilled coffee on your favourite sweater, the kids are driving you crazy or you missed the bus. Whatever it is, life is bound to stress you out at some point. Here are five foods to help improve your mood and hopefully reduce some of your stress.

1) Chocolate According to a review from 2017, cocoa powder, an ingredient in chocolate, releases endorphins in a small section at the base of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus controls emotions, the release of hormones and appetite. Endorphins are hormones that relieve pain and stress and trigger the same receptors and feelings as the opioid drug. Dark chocolate is usually recommended as the healthiest choice because it has the highest concentration of cocoa powder.

2) Strawberries Strawberries are known to normalize blood pressure levels. This helps prevent a change in high and low energy throughout the day. Keeping your energy levels steady helps discourage mood swings. Strawberries are also an excellent source of vitamin C. A study done in 2015 showed that vitamin C can help reduce anxiety. Enjoy them on their own, blend them into a smoothie or pair them with some dark chocolate for a perfect stress relieving snack.

3) Spinach Much like strawberries, spinach regulates blood sugar levels. It is also jam-packed with iron, which helps produce serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that regulates mood and is sometimes referred to as the ‘happy chemical’. Add some of these leafy greens to your pasta, blend them into your smoothies, or use it in your salads. You could also add it to the next item on our list for a yummy omelette.

4) Eggs Fried, scrambled, boiled or poached, eggs are a great source of protein. They contain Tyrosine, a key component in the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that plays a major role in motivation, drive and the brain’s ability to recognize rewards.

5) Sweet potatoes The carbohydrates in sweet potatoes help produce serotonin in the brain. Sweet potatoes are very high in the antioxidant beta-carotene, which can help with reducing free radical damage to brain cells. Sweet potatoes are great mashed or as an alternative to regular french fries. Enjoy them as a delicious side dish or as your dinner.

Happiness is Good For Your Health By: Priya Ali

Many people spend the majority of their lives chasing happiness. I say chasing because once they attain the thing or experience that makes them happy, they then desire something else and the chase begins all over again. This can cause a cycle of doubt, struggle, worry and stress, especially if they don’t attain the thing or experience that they have determined will bring them happiness. There is a catchy little saying that often goes around on memes or motivational posts; “happiness is an inside job.” Not only is it catchy, it’s true. Happiness is a state of being, in particular, well-being or joyful being, which comes from within. People often associate a person, an activity, an experience, a food, drink or other substance with the cause of their happiness, meaning their happiness is coming from an outside source. As happiness is a state of being, you would have to engage a thought, feeling or physical reaction to experience it, all of which come from within. There are four primary neurochemicals that activate happiness: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins. Certain activities, sensory experiences, foods and environments can trigger the release of these chemicals, which can drive you towards positive emotions. Similarly, certain activities, sensory experiences, foods and environments can deprive or prevent you from releasing the production and release of these neurochemicals, which can drive you towards negative emotions. You may have heard of or even know of someone who has become addicted to substances or activities that enhance the production and release of these neurochemicals, which can lead them to an unhealthy being. Engaging in a lifestyle that allows for a balanced production and release of these neurochemicals can create greater health. Stress is usually the root of all disease, whether it be physical or emotional stress. By reducing or ideally eliminating stress, you will likely live a healthier life. When we are in a state of happiness, we tend to feel more enthusiastic, motivated, inspired, with a desire to be physically active. Through the Universal Law of Attraction, happy people attract happy experiences, happy things and happy people. So while you may have been led to believe that you get the thing, person or experience first, and then you will be happy, I am suggesting it is the other way around. Stop chasing happiness; get happy and happy things will come to you.

Living with Enthusiasm & Passion By: Chris Lee There is a popular inspirational meme on social media of two men sitting on opposite sides of a bus with one looking out the window at a rock wall and the other looking at a beautiful mountainside. Each man has made a choice as to where they sit on the bus and the resulting scenery. That meme perfectly illustrates the choice that each of us has to make on a daily basis. Both men are having the same experience (riding a bus), but each has decided to focus on something different. Our life experience is similar to that meme. How much joy we derive from life has a lot to do with what we choose to focus on.

I’m a huge fan and avid practitioner of the Law of Attraction, which states: Whatever I give my energy, intent and focus to I attract more of the same, whether negative or positive. Many people look at the Law of Attraction as a means of manifesting money or a romantic relationship, but the essence of the Law of Attraction, the “secret sauce” if you will, is maintaining as high a vibration as possible. That means living life with enthusiasm and passion. Everyone will experience trials, challenges and setbacks. We have control over little in life - except for our thoughts, actions and words. We have total control over how we react or respond to life. Here’s the thing; most people don’t realize that we get to choose how we react. We often hear people explaining away a low vibration: Some jerk cut me off on the highway, my favourite sports team lost last night, so-and-so is back to their old tricks again! Let me tell you what they did this time! Sometimes things happen that will lower your mood; it’s a part of life. When we have focus, direction and purpose we can quickly re-focus and adjust to challenges. Here are some ways to help you live with passion and enthusiasm.

Re-frame Your Experiences Looking for the good in every situation will redirect your subconscious mind. With practice, you’ll go from searching for problems to searching for things to be grateful for. When setbacks or roadblocks arise, look at them as growth opportunities and you’ll begin to respond differently.

Express Appreciation Start every day with a gratitude list. What are three things you’re grateful for? Ask yourself the same question as you go about your day. Make it fun, make it silly and most of all, enjoy it! Expressing appreciation attracts more things to appreciate.

Self-Discovery Explore your passions. What type of activities make you feel alive? It could be writing, traveling, tennis - whatever you enjoy, find the time to do more of it. Being involved in a project that helps others can also be especially gratifying.

Seek Inspiration Open your eyes and heart to inspiration and you’ll begin to find it in the most unlikely of places. I recently struck up a conversation with an elderly man in a store. He told me about how he used to teach the “bad kids” at his school how to play musical instruments. He beamed as he told me about all of the kids that he helped over his 30-year career as a music teacher.

Be Intentional Focus and intent are extremely powerful tools. It may seem simple, but living life with passion and enthusiasm begins with the intent to live life with passion and enthusiasm. Say it with me; affirm it! “I intend to live everyday with passion and enthusiasm.”
