Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA)

After nearly two years of hard work, Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency (CRPA) achieved national accreditation. The final steps of the eighteen-month self-assessment process culminated with a detailed written report and successful completion of the CAPRA site visit.

As part of the accreditation process, CRPA approved and instituted a new Standard Operations Procedures Manual covering more than fifty new or amended policies or procedures; instituted a new Park Maintenance Manual that guides maintenance processes and schedules in all twenty-three parks and facilities; adopted a new strategic plan that will guide program and facility development for the next five years; and trained staff in areas such as de-escalation tactics, developing and evaluating programs, social media usage, and reducing risk in agency programs and facilities. At the CAPRA hearing, the agency officially passed 149 out of 154 standards, becoming the eleventh accredited agency in Georgia.

Certified Parks and Recreation Professionals (CPRP)

Currently, seven full-time employees at CRPA are CPRP certified professionals. A CPRP certification is the national standard for parks and recreation professionals desiring to be at the forefront of their profession. Attaining the CPRP designation reflects a person’s education, experience, qualifications, commitment, knowledge, and understanding of the profession. CRPA is proud to have so many employees that continue to excel in their education in efforts to make CRPA the best it can be.

Better Sports for Kids Quality Program Provider

Today’s youth sports climate overflows with programming choices making it a challenge for organizations to stand out among the crowd and difficult for parents to gauge which programs deliver high-quality experiences for young athletes. Using the National Standards for Youth Sports, the Better Sports for Kids Quality Program Provider designation recognizes those organizations that have met the highest standards. CRPA has earned this prestigious designation, thus parents can rest assured that specific safety and quality measures have been implemented.
