BRILLIANT COMBINATION GLENTURET SPIRITOURISM TEXT: ISABELLE GUIGNET | PHOTOGRAPHY: GLENTURRET LALIQUE The Glenturret, Scotland's oldest surviving distillery, was acquired in a joint venture by Lalique Groupe and Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss two years ago. This summer, this Scottish jewel reopened its doors, revealing a subtle transformation that has retained its essence as a high-end, handcrafted house. This union shares a trinity of values: prowess, provenance, and passion. With a 250-year history, the distillery, located in the small village of Crieff, has taken the House of Lalique, itself founded in 1888, as its companion. Together, the two companies offer a brilliant combination of interests. You can visit the distillery and learn about its history and the ancient know-how of whisky production. The Glenturret Café, located under the pagoda-shaped roof of the former malt store, invites you to relax and comfort yourself with its delicious food. The Lalique boutique offers a wide selection of classic and limited edition pieces, jewelry, perfumes, and candles. “Spiritourism” is a portmanteau of the words “Spirits” and “Tourism”. To enhance this offering, the Glenturret has opened a gourmet restaurant. Chef Mark Donald, who apprenticed at Noma in Copenhagen and distinguished himself at Number One, the onestar restaurant at the Balmoral, runs the show here. Located in the heart of the distillery, the restaurant offers contemporary, seasonal cuisine and features the finest Scottish produce. In addition to an extensive global wine list, a sublime whisky bar – soberly named “The Bar” – offers no less than 250 whiskies. The location and history have inspired the design of the decoration. Century-old bricks have been preserved, and the blues and reds of the Glenturret and Murray clan tartans have been combined with various shades of golden barley for a touch of Scottish elegance.
