Greetings all , and welcome to our New Year Edition of Hadag . As we move into 2016, we look back at an amazingly successful year for us, as we’ve taken the magazine regional across the GCC, and visited several of the Gulf’s countries along the way.
Most recently, we attended the Etihad Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix, at Yas Marina Circuit. If there’s one thing that makes a Formula One GP even better, it’s a GP with a spectacular backdrop of mega yachts to lend a sense of occasion to it all. One of the sport’s most prestigious races, Monaco, knows this only too well, and Abu Dhabi is now firmly established as a highlight of the Championship season. In honour of the event, we have a spread of fantastic images, we have details about the launch of two Riva yachts that took place at the race in our News Opener, and we have an infographic of unbelievable facts and figures from the race weekend. We also have an exclusive interview with Williams F1 driver Valtteri Bottas, courtesy of Oris watches, on page 90.
In the spirit of competition, we also feature a profile of the sport of powerboat racing in the UAE, which has been one of the country’s most popular motorsports for three decades now, and includes the UIM F1 H20 World Championship. However, I’ve saved the best for last. As you will have already seen from the cover, this issue we feature the awesome photoshoot from our visit to UAE yacht builder Gulf Craft, in Umm Al Quwain, with the mighty Lamborghini Huracan. As one of the world’s top ten yacht builders, we were honoured to be able to conduct the shoot with the flagship of their fleet, the stunning Majesty 155. We like to end the year on a high note, and this looks to be our best issue so far, so we hope you enjoy it. It’s been quite a ride, and we’re looking forward to even greater things in 2016, and I wish the same to you all!

ThE FErrETTI GrouP launched two of its yachts under the Riva brand, the 88 Florida and the 88 Domino Super, at the Abu Dhabi F1 GP in November. Riva’s involvement with the event was also evident through the brand being displayed on both the helmets of the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team, and follows its presence at the Monaco F1 GP earlier this year, at which both the 88s were also present.
“We did not want to miss Abu Dhabi’s most important sporting event of the year at Yas Marina Circuit, which captures the attention of motorsports enthusiasts globally who have a fascination for speed and racing,” said Ferretti Group’s CEO, Alberto Galassi. “The motorsport world shares many associations with yachting, therefore we decided to stage our unveiling of the latest two models from the Riva brand at this prestigious and glamorous event.”
The 88 Florida is an open yacht and a coupé on which Riva’s typically rigorous lines and the Florida’s own elegance are made even more enticing by the yacht’s innovative ‘Convertible Top’ patented technology, derived from the automotive sector, creating the first convertible luxury motor yacht.
The 88’ Riva Domino Super’s new sundeck highlights the yacht’s sporty character, while offering guests additional comfort. For example, the outdoor pilot station has been moved to the central part of the boat and has a very limited size, thereby making room for a large sofa at the bow. The 88’ Riva Domino Super ’s outstanding technical equipment and solutions perfectly harmonize with its sporty look and offer additional comfort to all guests, making technical operations extremely easy.
Following another highly successful Etihad Abu Dhabi F1 GP, we take a look at the race weekend in pictures and statistics.
Pershing Yachts, a division of the Ferretti Group, recently unveiled their largest and most innovative model to date, the Pershing 140. The 140 also represents the first aluminium-hulled yacht in the company’s history.
The new 140-footer is the result of the cooperation between the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, its Engineering Department, and architect Fulvio De Simoni. It will be the first Pershing yacht to be built at the Group’s Ancona boatyard, which specialises in the construction of steel and aluminium super and megayachts over 40 meters in length.
Extensive studies were carried out on the hull, partially drawing inspiration from military models, to create an innovative hull that would guarantee performance values up to the owners’ expectations. The Pershing 140 is expected to be launched in 2018.
The Transat, the oldest, single-handed transatlantic sailing race in history, is heading to New York City and will culminate at the new ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina, race organizers and rights holders OC Sport announced last month.
Located in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park, ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina, the newest marina to be built in New York City in decades, is currently under construction with a grand opening in spring 2016 to be marked by this iconic and exciting race.
The Transat has not visited New York since its first year in 1960, and makes its triumphant return to the city at this new state-of-the-art marina.

Out of the cruise segment since 2013, SOLAS leader Harding took the time to redesign their core products to meet the latest demands of the industry. The first deliveries will go to an leading cruise line project. The new Harding lifeboats boast a novel double-decker design that enables a record passenger capacity of 440. The new design also shrinks the waterline, saving valuable space shipboard, while offering a roomier and more comfortable interior on board the lifeboat.
And Harding is taking it one step further. Even the davits used to lower and retrieve lifeboats and tenders have undergone a transformation, being now completely enclosed, both for aesthetic as well as safety and maintenance purposes offshore. Concealing rust stains, greasy wires, and gearing, Harding’s all-enclosed davits are sleek and elegant, enhancing rather than detracting from the ship’s overall appearance.
Heesen has announced that YN 17947 Project Ruya is entering the outfitting phase and is due for delivery in March 2017. Project Ruya, a 47m full-displacement yacht just under the 500GT threshold, is the epitome of luxurious comfort: zero-speed stabilisers ensure maximum comfort at anchor, while her well-engineered steel hull with bulbous bow provides smooth and safe cruising in all sea conditions. Two MTU 8V 4000 diesel engines will power Ruya up to a top speed of 15 knots with a transatlantic range of 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Project Ruya is currently available for purchase and will be ready for delivery in March 2017 after intensive sea trials in the North Sea.
The largest sailing yacht ever built was launched recently by Nobiskrug shipyard in Germany. The 469ft Sailing Yacht A, as the project is known, also boasts the world’s tallest ever masts, and was designed by Philippe Starck for Russian billionaire and yacht owner Andrey Melnichenko.
Boasting eight decks and accommodating up to 20 guests and a crew of 54, the colossal sailing yacht will be powered by a hybrid-electric diesel set up, and reach a top speed of 20 knots. Her masts, made of carbon composite materials, reach a top height of 328ft above the water.
As you can see, she is a truly impressive sight!
Emirates-based Gulf Craft recently welcomed a delegation of members from the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), one of the world’s leading global trade entities representing the recreational marine industry.
Members of the association toured Gulf Craft’s award-winning superyacht shipyard in Umm Al Quwain, where they had an opportunity to experience both the art and science of producing semi-custom luxury craft.
The international association’s visit is a testimony to the Emirati shipyard’s growing global recognition and its footprint as one of the world’s established builders of premium craft.
Speaking at the ICOMIA conference in Dubai last month, Erwin Bamps, CEO of Gulf Craft, said that with stunning seascapes and beautiful marinas along the coastline, the GCC is showing potential to become one of tomorrow’s key global yachting hubs.

Abu Dhabi’s newly-launched Jalboot ferry – the emirate’s only scheduled passenger service covering 100km of scenic waterway around Abu Dhabi –has won a warm reception from residents and tourists alike. Currently running daily from 2pm until 9.30pm, the service, which calls at four destinations – Abu Dhabi Mall, Yas Marina, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr and Etihad Towers –is being taken up by residents as an alternative to road transport while visitors are using it to get a waterborne perspective of the capital and to reach individual tourist destinations with ease. The ferries accommodate up to 40 seated passengers and three crew members, are fully enclosed and air-conditioned with windows for passengers to take in the views.

as you can probably see from our cover story, we’ve seen a lot of the Majesty 155 so far. We attended the big launch of the yacht back in June 2015, and for this issue, we drove a Lamborghini Huracan down to the Gulf Craft shipyard for a photo shoot with the car and the 155.
The 155 is the largest, most luxurious yacht that the company has released to date, and is Gulf Craft’s first displacement superyacht. At 155 feet (47 meters), the Majesty 155 offers owners the experience of luxury and comfort at its finest, from an ornately designed fountain on the sundeck, surrounded by a spacious seating area where passengers can enjoy breathtaking views of the water, to a beautiful waterfall that cascades from the rear sundeck into the Jacuzzi situated on the upper deck.
The owner’s first-class stateroom is furnished using only premium fabrics and leathers, with countertops constructed from Cappuccino Onyx and CremaMarfil marble, further emphasizing the room’s elegance.

Emirates-based shipyard Gulf Craft presented the new-and-improved edition of their widely popular Silvercraft 31 family boat and fishing cruiser.
Award-winning yacht and boat builder Gulf Craft launched the newly renovated Silvercraft 31 HT (Hard Top) at the Qatar International Boat Show recently. Boasting higher engine capacity, better utilization of space, and more ergonomic features, and a sleeker and more contemporary appearance, the new 31 HT looks set to build on an already strong product offering.
“In addition to creating pioneering products that fulfill new demands and market needs in the ever-evolving yacht and boating industry, we are committed to uncovering ways to improve our customers’ journeys through our existing offerings,” said Erwin Bamps, CEO of Gulf Craft.
With rigorous research, and the incorporation of valuable customer feedback, the Silvercraft
31 HT has been revamped to further enhance the overall customer experience, inspired by the region’s passion for family days out on the sea and fishing trips.
“Specifically designed with regional fishing hobbyists and family boating in mind, our engineers and architects critically evaluated every corner and feature of the Silvercraft 31 HT to determine how we can make better use of the boat’s surface space,” said Bamps.
“In the process, other fine details were added which has resulted in a beautifully transformed, and exceptionally practical craft, with the potential to offer customers even more enjoyable trips.”
One of the major changes to the Silvercraft 31 HT is the amplification of engine capacity. With a power boost to a maximum of 600hp, compared to 400hp on its predecessor, customers can relish
the thrill of an even more powerful and reliable ride on sea.
Maximizing the comfort and functionality levels on-board, a key modification in the new edition of the boat is the substantial increase in storage space, allowing passengers freedom to bring additional equipment and supplies to help prepare for a more comfortable journey.
The cockpit seats can now be temporarily folded away to provide more surface area when needed, a number of cabinets have been added under countertops, a net holder has been fastened to store important documents requiring easy access, two small ice boxes have been removed in exchange for a single larger ice box, an additional forward seat has been installed, and even the headroom of the hard top has been expanded.
For fishermen, the foldable seats allow for more space to hold catches, and the larger ice box can keep more fish fresh during the inbound journey to land, while for family cruises, more storage space means passengers have more to munch on throughout the trip, and clutter on-deck is minimized, which can reduce safety risks.
Other alterations include a fitted footrest in the console area, and the slide door on the bathroom that replaces the L-shaped swing door to allow for a hassle-free entrance and exit. Subtle changes in the appearance and fine detailing were also implemented as part of the Silvercraft 31 HT upgrade, presenting a more chic and modern appeal. Artistically contrasting the crisp whiteness of the deck, the interior furniture is well-finished using fine, yet durable fabrics.
Measuring 9.4m in overall length, and fitted with a 760-liter fuel tank capacity, the Silvercraft 31 HT can entertain up to eight persons and hold a maximum of 800kg.

Powerboat racing is one of the region’s earliest motorsports, with international events taking place in the UAE as far back as the eighties. Central to the sport has been the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club.
PowErBoAT rACInG, in its various forms, has been a popular sport in the UAE for almost three decades now. The Abu Dhabi GP itself has been a highlight of the UIM F1 World Championship, the highest class of inshore powerboat racing, since 1993. Offshore, the Class 1 and XCAT World Series races pitch some of the world’s fastest and most powerful racing boats together for high-thrills action in the open waters of the Gulf.
Hadag talks to Salem Al Rumaithi, Assistant Director General of the Abu Dhabi International Marina Sports Club (ADIMSC), about the sport in the UAE: Can you give us an overview of the highlights of the past season across the various racing categories?
This has been the most successful season to date for Team Abu Dhabi. The highlight of course came when Gary Ballough and John Tomlinson won our first UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship title in November, particularly as they clinched the championship here during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

first season in the UIM XCAT World Series by finishing runners-up in the championship.
We started the UIM F1 H2O World Championship this season with an entirely new team. We picked Guido Cappellini to lead the team because of his huge experience, both as a competitor who won the world title a record ten times, and as a manager. We also brought in Alex Carella, a three-time world champion, to join Thani Al-Qamzi and we believe this is a combination that can bring us more world titles.
What are the merits of inshore racing vs. offshore racing?
Inshore or offshore, powerboat racing is spectacular, exciting, often dramatic, and highly competitive. We feel our world championships offer the same level of challenge, entertainment and thrills as F1 motor racing.
Inshore racing, particularly the UIM F1 H2O World Championship, is particularly exciting for spectators because they can see more of it close at hand.
The nature of offshore racing, like Class 1 and the XCAT World Series, means it has traditionally been harder for the public to follow. That’s why we run as much of our Class 1 and XCAT races as possible close to the Corniche and the Breakwater, and work very closely with Abu Dhabi TV who do more and more each year to show the sport at its best.
Can you give us a little bit of history on the UIM F1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi and its development?
The Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi was first run in 1993, and it has since become one of the most popular events in the annual calendar.
The course used in that first year is basically the one we use today, between the Corniche and the Breakwater, and the development of the Abu Dhabi skyline has gradually given the race a more and more dramatic backdrop.
Ironically, the first Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi was won by Team Abu Dhabi’s current manager, Guido Cappellini.
We’re proud of the place the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi has in F1 powerboat racing history. Over the years we’ve worked closely with the UIM and the teams to develop the event with an emphasis on safety as well as spectator enjoyment.
What are the future aspirations of the ADIMSC in the world of powerboating?
We feel we have achieved a great deal, but we are a forward looking club, team and race venue and our aim is to build on these achievements each year.
That means attracting more young Emiratis into the sport and giving them strong support to help their development, bringing more success to the UAE through the performances of Team Abu Dhabi, and working to enhance the powerboat racing experience for spectators.
How did you get into diving and ocean photography?
Ever since I was young at age five I loved the sea, as my dad took us along with my brothers and taught me everything from swimming to fishing. Later on I started to fall for diving, that’s back in 2011 when I was taught scuba diving and got my license; later on I got the free diving license.
Which is your favourite spot to dive in Bahrain?
My favourite spot is Abu Luthama, which is located north of Muharraq about 70km away. It takes two hours to get there and it’s a spot where there is no land at all, making it very difficult to reach. The reason why I prefer it is due to the variety and diversity of corals and fish available making it look very beautiful. It’s at the same level as the international corals that I have seen.
What pushed you to pursue underwater photography?
I loved diving so much that I had to capture
the images and share the beauty and colours of the ocean with the others. This is when I got a compact camera and started sharing on Facebook. The feedback that I received was amazing, pushing me further to get more equipment such as lighting, lenses and a more sophisticated camera.
What actually made people want to see more was because it’s local and they were surprised at the presence of such coral reefs ocean life in Bahrain. Though it’s difficult to capture due to the water clarity, I pushed myself and was able to get what I needed to share the moments across social media platforms.
Can you tell us about an experience which stands out in your memory?
A whale shark (4-5m long) which was a unique experience during a trip in Bahrain. We got the chance to swim with it and take photos, and it’s a moment I wish I could relive and take shots at a different angle with divers swimming next to it in order to show the size of the whale shark.
Another experience that not many have been able to do is diving in freshwater springs. This was very popular for the generations before us, but due to environmental causes many have disappeared. I was shocked to learn that there were a few still available, and I had the chance to dive in a five metre deep one in a garden. It had turtles living there and it was like no other feeling.
What advice do you have for anyone who is interested in the ocean?
I’d tell them if you’re able and have the resources to learn, go ahead and do it!
I would also like to convey a message to those responsible for sustaining the sea life, to keep an eye on Abu Luthama. Due to over fishing and boats going the corals, they are being worn out and destroyed. It’s a national treasure and such a loss to the country if completely destroyed.

And sometimes, this is exactly what we need to escape the grinding mills of the twenty first century. But actually, the Seychelles has a lot more to offer to all. The increasing number of hotels and resorts is placing the Indian Ocean archipelago at the heart of the international holiday map. From lovers to loners to botanists and ornithologists, and from a group of friends or big families to even businessmen, I am positive that one of the 116 coral and granite islands will bring satisfaction to your heart and soul.
Situated in the western Indian Ocean near the equator, the climate in the archipelago is delightfully tropical; the perfect combination of sun and rain that will not leave you too bored of either. June, July, and August witness the least rain and are the most convenient for families living in the Arab world desperate for a relaxing break after a long school year. Yet, with temperatures that range between 27 and 33 degrees Celsius, the Seychelles is never out of season, and all you need is your funky pair of shorts, your swimwear with its matching flipflops, and a few colorful t-shirts to highlight the perfect tan. And to be on the safe side, grab some mosquito repellant lotion or spray to keep the biters away!
We approched the airport during the day and the amount of green is overwelming! The first thing you notice when you land is how cute the small, simple, yet welcoming and efficient airport is. You step out and a journey of fascination begins. The one thing that impressed me the most around the whole island is how pristine everything is: the streets, the beaches, and the water. And even though green is dominant, plants and flowers are the decoration of every Seychellois’s house.
Our trip was limited to Mahé, the main island. Victoria, the capital, is the scene of all the action. An elegant replica of the famous Big Ben clock makes the heart of the city a must see. From there, walking down the busy streets of Victoria is a pleasure, as long as you carry along your trusted umbrella, which can be provided by your hotel. There are plenty of shops and kiosks to
choose from, but probably the busy market of Sir Selwyn Clarke is the best when it comes to a good bargain. Tropical fruits, exotic vegetables, and lots of fresh fish are sold side by side with a local variety of spices such as cinnamon, bay-leafs, nutmeg, vanilla, and the famous homemade curry sauce. From beach wear to handmade accessories and souvenirs, everything is inspired by the wide azure ocean and the treasures of its depths. Corals, shark tooth necklaces, coconut shell bracelets, coconut oil and soap, magnets and key chains and so many beautiful souvenirs to gift your family and friends.
I was eagerly anticipating seeing Le Coco Do Mer, the uniquelyshaped fruit that represents the trademark of the country, but the forbidden to eat fruit that once grew only on two tiny isles is strictly protected by the government. It is fairly expensive and to take one back home will require an export license.
A fishing trip is a joyful activity that can be offered to you by a local fisherman while sunbathing on the beach or can be easily arranged by your hotel. It is worthy and very rewarding and the taste of that fresh catch grilled on the shores of the nearby island is heavenly. Just make sure your local companion knows his way around spices!
If you get the chance to visit Eden Island, the only man-made island in the country, you must try dining in one of its luxury restaurants. Foodies and people with culinary curiosity like me will not be disappointed. Surprisingly, I found the Seychelles’ curry to be very different than both Indian and Thai curry. The octopus curry is a traditional dish that you may want to try; but if you are not up to the challenge, you should probably ask the chef to go easy on the chili! Meanwhile, there is always something to eat off the grill, believe me you do not need to worry.
Whether you are single, married, have children or haven’t reached that stage of your life yet, if you love green hills and sunny beaches, and you adore the sound of the waves crashing under the feet of an old coconut tree, you crave spicy food, you are longing for a relaxing massage under the spell of lemongrass and ginger, and you enjoy dancing under a full moon with a passion fruit cocktail in your hand, then the Seychelles is your next destination. IF you FELL ASLEEP, and woke up on Banana Island, you would be forgiven for thinking you had been magically transported to the Maldives. A tropical paradise, with lazy palms overlooking pristine beaches, lavish villas on stilts out over the water and a resort boasting the very highest levels of luxury, beauty and tranquillity are what you would be treated to when you opened your eyes.
It was designed to do something truly unique, offering a blend of Thai and Qatari hospitality and ambiance in its design, with influences from around the world seen in its various outlets.

The Lodgings
The island has been designed and laid out in a way that everything, from the venues to the spas and the rooms benefit from stunning sea views. Even the Deluxe Sea View Room, which is the most accessible offering, opens on to a terrace overlooking the water. Moving up you have the incredible two-bedroom Pool Villas, each with their own private swimming pool right next to the ocean.
However, for sheer mind-blowing luxury, you have to experience the Over Water Villas, partially built on stilts out on the ocean itself. Private pools, luxurious bedrooms with bay windows that open on to terraces right on the water, a living and dining area and separate majlis, and even a spacious pantry with mini bar, you really can’t overstate the opulence of these incredible lodgings.
The Spa
If there is one thing that Anantara takes seriously, it’s their spas, and on Banana Island it’s no different. They go to great lengths to work
with their environment to create an experience unique to the specific destination, and here it has worked to great effect. Beautiful, light airy spaces and treatment rooms with stunning sea views are the order of the day here, and the combination of wood, stone and other natural materials creates a truly relaxing atmosphere.
There is an extensive list of services that range from detox and anti-ageing treatments to massages, yoga, and even diet and nutrition consultations with take-home advice on foods, supplements and weightloss advice.
Though enjoyable, if eating and beauty treatments are not sufficient to keep you amused during your stay, there is an impressive range of activities to entertain you as well. Watersports are an obvious option for the island. Cruises, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding are all available, and there is a dedicated diving centre complete with training pool for beginners.
However, in addition to on-sea activities, there is much island-based enjoyment to be had as well. Tennis, beach volleyball, mini-golf course, a fitness centre and an incredible Entertainment Centre complete with eight-pin bowling alley and cinema theatre are just some of the options. For the youngsters, there is even a Teens Club with an obstacle course and adventure zone to keep them amused while the adults relax.
If you’re spending a while on the island, you should take the opportunity to visit the mainland for some sightseeing. Katara Cultural Village hosts exhibitions and cultural activities throughout the year. The traditional Souq Waqif is an excellent spot to visit too, with a warren of streets boasting market stalls, antique shops and Arabian cafes that is worth a full-day’s exploring.
Further cultural experiences can be had at Fort Zubarah, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Than Al Thani Museum, and the Museum of Islamic Art. For outdoor adventures, a desert trip to The Singing Sand Dunes and Khor Al-Adaid, or the ‘Inland Sea’, can be arranged from the hotel as well.

Here we have a delicious Far Eastern-inspired dish using local fish, courtesy of Executive Sous Chef Goh, of Bushido, in Bahrain. Chef Goh was born in Malaysia, and started his culinary career in Singapore 25 years ago.
Ingredients
5 pieces Hammour Fillets
80g Wasabi Powder
15g Minced Garlic
½ tblsp Dijon Mustard
3 pieces Egg Yolks
30g Fresh Parsley
450g Butter (room temp)
110g Panko
Salt Pepper
Directions:
Season the hammour fillets with salt and pepper. Charcoal grill the hammour for five to six minutes on each side, until it is partially cooked. Whip the butter until creamy, and finely chop the parsley. Combine all the ingredients except the panko and the parsley. Dip the grilled hammour fillets into the mixture and turn until coated completely. Slowly fold into the panko, and transfer to an aluminium platter. Broil in a hot oven or salamander until the crust goes a golden colour. Add the charcoal grilled asparagus, sprinkle with parsley and serve.
A talented Chef de Cuisine of Argentinian descent, Tomas Closa leads the awardwinning team of the sophisticated seafood restaurant Sayad, at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. Chef Tomas gives us his recipe for Watermelon Salmorejo (a traditional cold soup from the Andalusia region of Spain), with King Prawn Tartar.
Ingredients
Watermelon Salmorejo
500g Watermelon
500g Tomato
40g Onion
40g Green Capsicum
1.5pcs Garlic
20g Bread
180ml ExtraVirgin Olive Oil
10g Salt
3g Black Pepper
5g Dijon Mustard
King Prawn Tartar
6pcs Cooked King Prawn
30g Shallots
100g Tomato
2pcs Avocado
5g Chives
5g Salt
1g Black Pepper
5ml Lime Juice
50ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1g Red Chili
Directions:
Watermelon Salmorejo
Peel and remove the seeds from the watermelon, chop finely. Chop the tomato, onion and the green capsicum. Mix all the vegetables in the blender with the olive oil, salt, black pepper, bread, garlic and mustard. Blend on max power for at least 10 minutes. Once it’s done strain and keep in the fridge for three hours. Must be served very chilled.
King Prawn Tartar
While the Salmorejo is chilling, prepare the prawn tartar. Chop the shallots, tomato, avocado and chives into small dices. Remove the shell from the prawns, and chop finely. Mix with the previous preparation and dress with olive oil, salt, pepper, chopped red chilli and lime juice. Mix well, and let the preparation rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before service. Before plating pan sear a small dice of watermelon with olive oil and sea salt. Place the Tartar in a bowl, and pour the soup over.
In the first photo shoot of its kind in Hadag, we drove the mighty Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 down to Gulf Craft’s Umm Al Quwain shipyard for a shoot alongside the stunning Majesty 155 superyacht.
wE wErE nErvouS. Pulling off a shoot combining something the size of an Italian super car with something the size of an Emirati superyacht is no mean feat, and this was to be the first time we had attempted such a task.
We had already collected the car from the Lamborghini showroom in Deira on the Thursday, and familiarised ourselves with the car’s immense power, blistering speed and unforgettable V10 bellow on the drive home.
The Lamborghini Huracan replaces the Gallardo as the marque’s V10 offering, and obviously had to up the game over its predecessor. Therefore, Lamborghini have made quite a few changes to the exterior, interior and performance figures.
The Huracan still features the same 5.2l V10 as the Gallardo, but this time round it has been uprated to produce 610PS (602hp) to the Gallardo’s 560PS (552hp). This means a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 325km/h.
It also features a raft of new technology, such as Stop & Start fuel saving, and MagneRide electromagnetic damper control.
Inside, the Italian sense of drama comes courtesy of the 3-mode switch on the steering wheel for Strada (Street), Sport, and Corsa (Track), and the bright red fighter jet-style cover over the ignition, which you’ll have to flip up to fire up that big V10. It all just appeals to the man-child inside!
We were somewhat nervous about navigating Deira’s extremely busy streets in a Lamborghini, but needn’t have been. Despite being a V10 supercar, the Huracán is manageable and easy to manoeuvre, and feels positively sedate at low speeds in Strada mode. Some rear visibility is obviously sacrificed to that
low seating position and the mid-engine layout that places the big V10 right behind you, but it’s a small price to pay for such a rousing symphony.
As we reach Abu Dhabi on Thursday evening, we notice with some trepidation that the wind has picked up, and the air is looking a little dusty. This could spell disaster for our shipyard shoot on Saturday. Friday morning only compounded our fears, as the wind had whipped up into frenzy, and delivered a dust storm to us from somewhere in Kuwait.
All we could do was alleviate our stress by cruising around Abu Dhabi in a dusty Huracan, and hope that the storm would blow over. The Huracán is just as comfortable cruising on a highway as it is on city streets with a smooth ride in Strada mode. Cruise control is optional, but unfortunately our model didn’t have that option, so the biggest challenge was avoiding a speeding ticket.
However, a highway isn’t where you want to be in a Lamborghini, so we went to find a more challenging route for some entertainment. Switching to Sport mode tightens up the car overall, opening up the exhaust for a more aggressive note and more power, improving throttle and steering response, and stiffening the chassis for better grip. The Huracán boasts a highly intelligent all-wheel-drive transmission with a 70/30 front-rear torque ratio, but can send 100% of the power to the rear and 50% to the front depending on requirements. It works together with the Pattaforma Inerziale, which is an array of motion sensors that adjust the ESP and gearbox to suit driving conditions. It’s a marked difference over the Gallardo, and results in a car that makes the immense power of the car’s 602hp V10 very manageable, and insane amounts of fun to drive!
On Saturday, all our wishes came true, as we opened the windows to see that the dust storm had blown over, and the air was as clean as a whistle. With no small measure of relief, we set off for Umm Al Quwain (with a quick stop at a car wash on the way).
As we entered the Gulf Craft shipyard, with the fleet of yachts towering over the now clean and shiny Lambo, we couldn’t help but notice how the Lamborghini red contrasted so nicely with the gleaming white mega yachts.
As we positioned the car next to the Majesty 155, the biggest yacht in the Gulf Craft fleet to date, a crowd gathered as we began our photoshoot. The car looked completely at home next to the multi-million dollar vessel, as if the owner had just turned up to go for a cruise. And that’s the thing with a Lamborghini – that is going to be the case all over the world!

Previously, no watch on the market offered a way of indicating the tidal range, which is important for professional divers like Frischknecht to know while working.
The unique dial of the Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon is adapted to either the Northern or Southern hemisphere depending on your location.

Bottas finished fifth overall in the 2015 Drivers Championship, with the team finishing an impressive third overall in the Constructors Championship.
Your entire F1 career so far has been with Williams. What does the team mean to you?
It means so much to me. They are very trusting of my skills so I am so thankful to them forever for bringing me on board and grateful for what we have achieved together. We’ve been improving all the time and making good results compared to my debut in 2013.
You’ve achieved some impressive results so far, with a 4th overall place last year, and 5th this year. Are you happy with those results?
Well of course I would like to win, I mean everyone does but you can only do what you can. Our car is not quick enough at the moment to win races so my job is to do the best with what I have and I think this year has been more of an unlucky season than last year so I think next year we can do better.
Given William F1’s success so far, how confident are you going into 2016?
We haven’t yet peaked as team so there is always room for improvement. We can make the car quicker and there is a lot of margin for improvement and many other things like the pit stops and how we operate. I’m only going to keep improving if I keep criticising myself so I’m feeling positive about 2016. Which technical changes are you looking forward to for 2016? Do you think they will help close the gap between Mercedes and the rest?
To be honest there are not a lot. It’s very minimal. So that means it will be a very tight competition. Hopefully we can challenge them for the wins.
Wakeboarding is fun. Jet skiing is fun. What happens, however, when you combine the two? Well, something very much like this…
ThIS IS ThE wAkEjET CruISE, a creation of Swedish company Radinn (Radical Innovation). A very new product to hit the marine leisure market, they are only just delivering the very first units to customers this month,
The Wakejet Cruise is an electric-powered wakeboard that can be ridden at speeds of up to 46 km/h, with the rider controlling the speed via a wireless push-button remote. “It’s an absolutely amazing feeling. Because you’re not being towed by a boat and the thrust comes from the jet-propulsion, your weight is much more positioned towards the centre, and therefore the feeling is a bit more like snowboarding,” says Alexander Lind, COO of Radinn.
It is the brainchild of wakeboarder Philip Werner, who founded the company in 2012 as a side project whilst studying at Lund University. The company now employs 10 engineers specialised in mechanical and electrical engineering, software, industrial design and supply chain management in a 300sqm workshop in Malmö, Sweden, where they’re putting the finishing touches on their first batch of production boards.
“The system’s architecture is really not too different from that of an electric sports car, with the most obvious difference being that you’re operating it in water. It has a total of three computers that monitor the entire system in real-time to ensure the product’s long-term life-cycle,” explains Lind.
“The Wakejet is developed with a wide array of clever engineering due to the many problems occurring when developing an electric product that is to be used in water. For example, the wireless remote has all of its electronics over-moulded in silicone, so that it can be completely submersed in water while still being water-proof. The problem of not having a charging outlet
was solved by introducing custom induction charging so that it can charge wirelessly whilst being completely soaked in water.”
Retailing at €15,000, the Wakejet isn’t cheap by any means. However, the package does include the board, battery power pack, wireless remote, speed charger and a custom board bag with wheels for convenient transport.
