Class Objective Certification

This specialization is intended for anybody that is interested in developing skills in medical language or preparing for further studies in the medical field. Learners will be able to identify common prefixes, suffixes, roots and abbreviations so they can recognize most medical terms used by medical professionals. Learners will also understand the structure of an electronic health record and extract vital information from it. Moreover, learners will gain basic knowledge of the anatomy and diagnoses related to all 10 main organ systems

Virtual Coursera training course including a weekly virtual peer learning session that includes job preparation, resume and interview workshops, and other work readiness skills.

Suggested 4-week program, minimally 12 hours per week

Prerequisites & Assessments

Participants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and pass required Northstar and CASAS assessments. Pass Northstars assessments: Computer Basics with an 85% or higher, Internet Basics with an 85% or higher, and Windows 10 with a 75% or higher. Has internet access and a computer or laptop (if not, this will be addressed during enrollment)

Curriculum

3 courses including Medical Terminology I, II, and III. In Medical Terminology I, it includes common medical vocabulary terms for the integumentary, musculoskeletal, and urinary systems. The next course moves on to the endocrine, transportation, defense and respiratory systems. The final course covers the nervous, special senses, digestive, and reproductive systems.
