In this course you can really see the style of Robert Trent Jones in the elevated greens and tees, with many bunkers in play and, as expected, some water hazards. Every hole is different, you will have to use all the clubs in the bag and play with strategy to make a good score. Some of the holes you won’t forget are:
Hole 3, Par 4, it is one of the most famous holes of the Portuguese Golf, with view to the Atlantic Ocean, its picture was used for many years to promote “Golf in Portugal” abroad.
Hole 4, Par 3, played over a natural ravine to a quite demanding Green. Hole 13, Par 3, you play over a big lake to an elevated green well protected with 4 bunkers.
Hole 18, a beautiful Par 5, with two lakes, all shots have to be well thought to make sure
you are not penalized by the water.
Quinta da Marinha has been host to many high profile professional competitions, such as the Ladies Masters in 1988, won by South African player Laurette Maritz-Atkins. In 2002, the PGA Seniors Tour Championship was won by Denis Durnian after a dramatic suddendeath play-off with the former Ryder Cup star, Eamonn Darcy. And in 2007, the Challenge Tour, was won by Ross McGowan, shooting 66 to beat former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker who was leading the after round three. A stylish new clubhouse overlooks hole nr. 3, and is the perfect place to drink, a well deserved, beer after a round of golf.

The par-71 links-style layout, which is situated one hour south of Lisbon, is one of the most eagerly-anticipated golf course design projects that will be unveiled in 2023 and has been captured in a new light by up-and-coming English photographer and videographer James Hogg ahead of being unveiled in June.
Hogg, who has photographed many of north-west England’s finest courses including Royal Birkdale, Formby and Hillside, as well as the new-look Links course at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort in southern Spain, spent three days bringing The Dunas Course to life with a combination of images and videos as preparations continue ahead of the venue opening in June.
Rodrigo Ulrich, director of golf at Terras da Comporta, said: “David McLay-Kidd has done an amazing job designing a world-class course on the most spectacular piece of golfing terrain I’ve ever seen.
“With the project now nearing its conclusion, it’s vital that we have a set of photographic and video content that shows the course off in its full glory and demonstrates why we are so excited about its launch.
“James was given a very specific brief and carried it out to perfection. We couldn’t be happier with everything he’s delivered and we are already looking forward to him returning to reshoot the course as it develops and matures over the coming years.”
Vanguard Properties, the largest real estate developer in Portugal, took ownership of the spectacular Terras da Comporta development in 2019 and the site features two plots: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land in the Alcácer do Sal municipality, and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares of land in the Grândola municipality.

DP World Tour star Ricardo Santos took time out from his busy playing schedule this month to help Clube de Golf Santo da Serra mark the completion of a €2.5m irrigation project that has helped to make the Madeira course a golf pioneer and model for water management.
Portuguese ace Santos joined a group of club officials, members and local dignitaries who gathered at the 27-hole venue to celebrate the official inauguration of the new state-ofthe-art irrigation system that will monitor a pipe network of around 37km – and will help to reduce the club’s water consumption by nearly two thirds.
As part of its water conservation programme, Santo da Serra has installed 237 new valves and another 61 electro valves across the different playing areas of its three nine-hole layouts over the last 18 months, which will be managed by 240 stations located on the course. Monitored by 17 satellites, they will not only detect a leak in real time but also collect data related to meteorological conditions and the amount of water used in each irrigation.
With the club now having been able to strategically place its 1,297 sprinklers across its three courses – the Machico, the Desertas and the Serras – it has managed to dramatically reduce the area that needs irrigating to just 15 hectares, with the amount of water needed going from 2,200m³ to 868m³.
In addition, Santo da Serra has completed the renovation of four on-course lakes that it uses for irrigation, including increasing the capacity of its largest lake by 17,000m³ to 28,000m³
by capturing the venue’s annual rainfall. It is estimated that the combined capacity of the lakes is now around 40,000m³, a volume that will reinforce the storage capacity of the Lagoa do Santo system.
And it not just golfers and visitors that will benefit from the eco-project, with the system also providing for the provision of water for firefighting operations by the Civil Protection helicopter and, in extreme conditions, the supply to farmers in neighbouring municipalities.
Ricardo Abreu, general manager at Clube de Golf Santo da Serra, said: “We have a duty to all our members and guests to deliver the best playing experience possible and we weren’t able to do that with the previous system that was old and badly out of date.
“The new irrigation will transform the way that we operate on a day-to-day basis. Everyone at the club is enormously proud of the work that has taken place and we believe our integrated remote management system will set the benchmark for clubs seeking a smarter, more efficient solution to golf course irrigation.”
Clube de Golf Santo da Serra – one of three world-class golf venues in Madeira alongside Palheiro Golf and Porto Santo Golfe – is committed to delivering longterm sustainable eco solutions. The club has also recently updated it golf academy and clubhouse and its work to preserve the environment has been mirrored by the other clubs in the idyllic Portuguese archipelago. Porto Santo recently introduced a range of new measures aimed at lowering its eco-footprint and making golfers more
environmentally conscious, with upgrades being made across its golf and clubhouse facilities in the coming months to reduce water, plastic and electricity usage and improve recycling levels.
The installation of a new pumping system in the lake on the fourth hole to improve irrigation efficiency and cut golf-course water consumption; the sale of bamboo tees in the pro shop to encourage golfers not to use plastic golf ones; and a new rubbish house to improve recycling levels are just three of the changes being introduced, while Palheiro Golf is also working hard to deliver increased sustainability in and around the golf course. As well as registering with the Golf Environment Organisation, the venue has dramatically reduced the carbon footprint of the course by using a black sand endemic to Madeira in all its bunkers, with future plans including the purchase of new golf-course maintenance machinery.
Located approximately 1,000km from the European mainland – and just 500km from the African continent – Madeira enjoys an amazingly mild climate, ranging from 25°c in the summer to 17°c in the winter, with very mild average temperatures and moderate humidity, making it the perfect year-round location for a golf break.

Two kilometres north of the small fishing village of Salema and situated close to the rural village of Budens, the centerpiece of the resort is the spectacular 18 hole golf course designed by Pepe Gancedo, one of Spain’s´s most renown architects.
Opened in 1987, the course offers a challenge, which tempts golfers back time after time. With no 2 holes remotely similar, the variety and appeals is endless.
From the stunning dog-legged 1st , to the majestic elevated green of the 18th, set in a natural amphitheatre bellow the clubhouse terrace, it is one of those rare courses that stretches your skills to the limit.
The famous `postage stamp´ short par three 5th, played from an elevated tee to a green which sits on top of a hillock, is a great favourite. The picturesque par three 11th, guarded on two sides by water, is followed by a par five which leads the player up the “Valley of the Wells” to another elevated green on the 12th.
Surrounded by lush gardens, nestling in the hillsides bordering the Costa Vicentina Natural Reserve sits Santo António Golf and Leisure Resorts.Having played along the “Lost Valley” of the new par four 14th, with its incredible views of the village of Figueira and the sea beyond, you are faced with the dramatic tee shot of the par three 15th. On the tee, the player is presented with an imposing view of a fabulous lake, which has to be carried in order to reach the wide but shallow green. Water again comes into play on the 16th and 17th, where bold yet accurate tee shots will reap dividends for the brave, though both holes will also prove rewarding to the higher handicap golfer. One round is not enough to fully appreciate the imaginative design, or the magnificent views. “Floresta Parque Golf Clube” was officially federated by the Portuguese Golf Federation in 1994 and has already earned a reputation for world-class golf, stating major events including the Expresso BPI Corporate Challenge, Finibanco Corporate Challenge,
and the Europro Tour Championship Finals. The resort holds regular golf festivals, twice weekly competitions and boasts a busy social calendar for residents and visitors alike. The golf course also includes the junior academy where youngsters are instructed on how to improve their skill and stance with our coach Rui Glória. Children of all levels are welcome.

Set within unspoilt undulating countryside, the greens and fairways of Espiche Golf course have been carefully placed to balance the dual demands of the golfer and the environment, with indigenous planting throughout creating a beautiful backdrop and some challenging obstacles.
The golf course requires careful thought along the 5862 metres (6411) yards from the back tees and requires a deft touch on the short game. Bunkers guard most greens while the greens themselves are large and undulating, demanding a soft hand with the putter. Espiche Golf course in Lagos is a shotmaker’s course, where each hole poses a new challenge thanks to the variety of the layout. The par five 1st, dropping some 80 feet from the tee before rising back to the same height at the green, gives golfers an insight into the style of golf at Espiche Golf course. The 3rd
provides the sternest test on the front nine at 409 meters uphill all the way, before the short 7th and 8th offer birdie opportunities.
The par five 10th is one of the finest in all the Algarve golf courses, and challenges golfers to negotiate the progressively tighter fairway as they approach the green.

The three founding members were visionary entrepreneurs who visited the Algarve over 20 years ago to look at investment opportunities.

They took their concept to South African golf course architect Peter Sauerman who designed the course and with the backing and support of a small group of investors and a devoted handful of builders, their lovingly built and landscaped the design to sympathetically integrate into the surrounding scenery. Within the natural amphitheatre of the Bay of Lagos, Robert Trent Jones, II has fashioned Europe’s next great golf course, Palmares Golf. The brief given to this exceptional American golf course designer was to craft a 27-hole golf course which maximised the potential of its extraordinary environment.
The result is a golf course of breath-taking natural beauty which is a delight to play. The course opened 18 holes for play in October 2010 and the full 27 in June 2011 and it has matured nicely. Palmares Golf is composed of three returning nine-hole loops that can be played in any sequence. The genius in the routing is that, depending on the sequence of play, each golf experience is different. Each nine-hole loop

PALMARES OCEAN LIVING & GOLFThe first 18 hole course of its kind to be built in the Algarve, the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course started a golfing movement that is, today, famous the world over. Designed and completed in 1966 by the great Sir Henry Cotton, the course stands as a shining example to golfing architecture and one man’s passion for the great game of golf.
Whether the former championship golfer had any inkling of the mark he was laying down when he first began implementing his vision upon the Algarve paddy fields from which his course sprung, we don’t know... what we do know is the staggering extent of the legacy that he created.
First he introduced thousands of trees and shrubs, completely transforming the landscape into a vegetation rich, lush land, perfect for playing the game of golf. From this initial build, there quickly sprang another 30 courses across the region... with plenty more to come. As the towering pines and eucalyptus trees reached maturity, the course was given a definitive character that remains unmatched across the entire penipnsular of the Algarve.
Sir Henry Cotton: The Man Behind the Vision
Sir Henry Cotton was a three times British Open Champion, even winning the competition with an extraordinary 65 in 1934 - which resulted in Dunlop honouring him with his own ball... the ‘65’. Most at home in the Algarve, with the great all year round climate - particularly during Autumn and Winter when many of the UK courses were slightly inclement to say the least, Sir Henry was determined to follow his vision of creating a world of year-round golf... and golfers the world over are mighty pleased that he did.
A major revitalisation project has recently completely transformed both the hotel and the golf course. Prestigious events such as the Daily Telegraph Seniors’ Match Play event (2001), the National Finals of the Audi Corp, together with major international and charity competitions - such as the Sir Henry Cotton Charity Classic - together with the Portuguese Open (1998 / 1999/ 2000 / 2004 / 2006) have all been hosted at the course.
The course itself is characterised by an unusual grouping of Par 5s, with four of the
five arranged together in pairs in the beginning and end of the back nine - producing a Par 38 as opposed to 35.
As you turn home towards the 18th, the magnificent building of the hotel acts as a backdrop to the green and is framed by an amphitheatre of trees - a superb spectator setting. Drive short of the drainage ditch, position the second shot to avoid the bunkers guarding the putting surface... and take into account the pin position on one of the three tiers - and you could well finish with a highly commendable par.
Of the Par 3s, the most memorable is the 13th - voted one of the best 500 holes in the world. A lake borders the right-hand side, coming into play off the back tee, whilst the sloping green is guarded to the front and left by a pair of dangerous bunkers... great fun and a great challenge.

Located in a valley in the inland Algarve, between Portimão and Monchique, the Morgado Golf Course is challenging both to amateurs who are just starting out in the game and to highly-experienced golfers seeking to put their technique to the test.
This is a par 73 course but its length is attenuated by the generous width of the fairways. However, you may be penalised if your less successful strokes happen to land in one of the bunkers scattered around the course.
The Morgado Golf Course has the typical characteristics of a links course - with flat fairways and Scottish-inspired bunkers - but which, instead of being beside the sea, like a traditional links, is set in an area of parkland. Surrounded by the region’s traditional trees, golfers playing on the Morgado Golf Course will come into contact with a different Algarve, an Algarve where the peace and quiet provide the perfect setting for a memorable round.

After his success designing the Vale de Pinta course, Ronald Fream teamed up with the former world No. 1 Nick Price to create the unique design of Gramacho. With 18 holes and 27 greens, plus numerous different tee points, players are able to enjoy the same course time and time again but always with slightly different challenges.
Having hosted the Portuguese Ladies Open on a number of occasions Pestana Gramacho is recognized as a championship course enjoyable and playable even by those with a higher handicap.
Apart from the fantastic golf design, Ronald and Nick managed to incorporate the traditional landscape by utilizing the natural stone outcrops, historical dry stone walling and existing ancient trees with some artfully sculpted lakes and bunkers. The effect is a wonderful journey through the countryside. The golf reception is open every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m in the winter, and to 9 p.m. in the summer. Salgados Golf Course, situated in one of the best-known regions of the Algarve, between Albufeira and Armação de Pêra, is already a ‘postcard’ of Portugual golf courses. In fact, the proximity of the sea and the variety of lakes make this a very unique and interesting test of golfing skills, different from other courses in the Algarve.
Salgados Golf course opened in September 1994 and is situated near the extensive Galé Beach between Pera and albufeira. The low lying wetlands of the landscape have been skilfully used in the layout wich incorporates 14 water hazards. To compensate for the dauting water hazards, Salgados has been designed to have only semi-rough for general play and the overall lenght has been restricted to 6140 metres from the championship tees. It is a conventional par 72 course wich four par 3 holes and four par 5 holes. The first nine are laid out in a roughly anti-clokwise loop starting and ending close to the clubhouse. One of the toughest holes is the 415 metre par 4 7th, which runs along the sea-side of the
course with a narrow Fairway between large dunes. Among the back nine, only yhe 180 metre par 3 17th is devoid of water hazards, but on five of the remaining holes players will be able to sacrífice distance for accuracy off the tee and still have opportunities to score pars. The exceptions are the 390 metre par 4 10th, and the unusual sequence of two links-type par 5s – the 14th which measures 490 metres and the 15th at 545 metres. These presente a tough testo f golfing ability before the relatively benign three hole home stretch.
Traditional Bermuda Tifton 419 grass has been used for the fairways, Rye grass for the semirough, Pencross for the greens and Penneagle for the Tees.

Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course has earned a reputation as being a somewhat unique offering within the Vilamoura golf portfolio. While its many water hazards and few trees set it apart, it truly finds its individuality in the number of holes which convey characteristics of a traditional links layout. American golf course architect Joseph Lee was given the responsibility for setting out the Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course in Vilamoura over lowlying coastal terrain, and in this setting was able to establish 18 holes which offer a wide variety of playing conditions.
The course has been continually improved since the first ball was struck in 1990, although it retains all of the appeal of a modern test of golf, through which the strategic positioning of bunkers and a number of water obstacles
demand accuracy of play. Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course shares a well-proportioned and welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium Golf Course. The par-72 Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course is often asserted that the creation of the Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course was pivotal in cementing the status of this region as one of Europe’s most-visited and best-loved for golf. Opened in the year 2000 - comprising nine brand new holes and a refurbished inward half which had previously formed part of the original 27-hole Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course - this is a more open course that its neighbours, although holes 3-7 wind between pine trees.
For many, this stretch bears a resemblance to fairways of Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club and Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course, where landing areas grow narrower, requiring greater accuracy. A number of lakes, particularly interestingly on 17 and 18, enrich the
remaining holes of the Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course, where a simple course strategy is always the best approach.

The Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course was opened for play in 1976 and owes its personality to both the original designer Frank Pennink, who also turned his hand to Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club nearby, and Robert Trent Jones Sr., who made a number of significant refinements in 1985.
Traversing undulating parkland, many fairways are lined by pine trees. However, perhaps an even more significant challenge is presented by the Umbrella and Atlantic pines which present themselves on fairways and at times on the approach into greens. Length has recently been added on a number of holes, which ensure the test originally envisioned by Pennink is maintained. At a substantial 6,353 metres from the white tee markers, and with a par of 72, Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course is
certainly no pushover, although golfers will be pleased to learn that the ponds and stream which come into play on five holes should not, for the most part, present a serious threat. One of the most remarked upon features of Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course, in Vilamoura, is the stunning panorama provided from the clubhouse, which extends over the excellent driving range and practice facilities and beyond. Completely renovated at the turn of the millennium, its veranda offers the perfect setting for post-round relaxation. Its authorship and its features have made it into a must see in any Algarve golf tour. Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course is an unforgettable part of the Vilamoura Golf Courses experience.

At the time of creation, Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, with an area of about 90 hectares, was hailed as the most ambitious golf project Portugal had ever witnessed. Designed by true golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, there is absolutely no doubt that it has lived up to that lofty billing.
This is one of the golf courses in Vilamoura considered to be one of the best and most challenging in Europe, and features an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500 m2. All of this has made it the obvious venue of choice for many of the top international tournaments to visit Portugal in recent times. Indeed, it has served as the host venue to the Portugal Masters on every occasion since 2007, while the World Cup Championship was staged there in 2005.
The Par-72 Championship layout, measuring 6.651 meters (7,273 yards) from the Palmer tees, incorporates and has ensured the preservation of natural wetlands on-site, as well as the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. A significant proportion of Dom Pedro Victoria’s acreage is occupied by lakes, forming hazards to be avoided but which also have a strategic purpose in providing reservoirs for irrigation. A number of teeing options on each hole (often as many as six are offered), accompanied by wide but undulating fairways, provide a fair test of golf, although water and cleverly-positioned bunkers pose a constant threat.

Over the years, golf courses have continued to evolve. Whilst, in the past, architects may have prioritised a challenging game, we are now seeing a new generation of golf courses that also put emphasis on sustainability. And an exciting challenge is almost guaranteed! Ombria’s 18-hole golf course is a 5 800 metre, par 71, boasting two 9-hole loops that are set in quite different terrains. The front nine are laid in the base of two untouched landscape banks with a ‘wall to wall’ design and very well-defined grass limits that create an ever-changing look throughout the seasons. Magnificent holm trees, preserved inside the playing areas, are an integral part in the course strategy and work as hazards.
The #1 tee welcomes the player with stunning views down the valley, this short part 5 offers a comfortable tee shot for all levels of golfers. Presenting arguably the most challenging par 5, however, is the #2 hole. With a length of
518 meters, slight double dog-leg, it invites players to a gamble with the stream several times whilst the preserved old rock noria may block the view of the approach shot. The front nine loop ends with a true championship par 4 sandwiched between a lake on the left and the stream on the right that will reward players with picturesque views of the surrounding nature.
The back nine holes feature a very different, wider scenery. The #10-hole fairway is framed by two holm trees and is free of bunkers on the landing area which should provide a comfortable start of the back nine loop. Moving along the remaining holes of the back nine, golfers can expect different challenges that require finesse and know-how. Afterwards, players may wish to visit the onsite Clubhouse which was built into the castle-like walls of an existing ruin. Built to the highest specifications, the North Course was totally redesigned in 2014 by renowned architect Beau Welling, in conjunction with former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
While many modern-day developments tend to focus on length, Welling and McGinley were keen to design a golfing experience where accuracy and course management are the key factors, and a course that is playable and fun for golfers of all abilities.
All the greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation and drainage systems and cart paths have been re-built using innovative technology. Four sets of tees have been introduced on each hole to accommodate players of all levels. Golfers are challenged by a combination of undulating
greens, well-positioned bunkers and water hazards.
A low-cut Bermuda grass approach has been introduced around greens to create recovery shot options, therefore encouraging all levels of play. Through the introduction of seasonal rough grass and the planting of specimen trees, the aesthetics and environmental impact of the par-72 course has significantly improved. The renovation has allowed for water recycling, solar energy while the grassy areas will encourage new ecosystems.

QUINTA DO LAGO NORTH COURSEThe South Course is the crown jewel of Quinta do Lago. Designed in 1974 by William Mitchell, who introduced American-standard greens, tees and bunkers to the Algarve. The course was renovated in 2020 – with a €7 million investement.

From Faro Airport: Leave the airport and drive approximately 3 km until you see signs for Faro and Portimão. Turn right towards Portimão. This will bring you to main road - EN 125. The fifth, the shortest hole on the San Lorenzo Golf Course, open up a magnificent vista with the backdrop of golden beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. Drama begins to unfold at the sixth hole where the San Lorenzo Golf Course borders the estuary and great demands are put on accuracy.
The eighth hole turns inland and is without a doubt one of the most spectacular par 5s, bordering the largest of the inland lakes and forcing the third shot to carry water to a tight
but beautifully positioned green. With the lake to your right, the tendency is to favour the left side; however bunkers and encroaching pines lie and wait on this side.
It is difficult to describe the breathtaking finale that awaits you at the eighteenth hole. There is no escape from the water here and the prefect drive merely lessens the challenge of a shot

Benamor Golf is a superb 18 hole Golf Course located on the South of Portugal, Algarve, just a few kilometres east of the ancient city of Tavira. In the nearby foothills of Barrocal, you will enjoy some of the best mountain and sea views the Algarve has to offer. But maybe most enjoyable of all, are the peaceful surroundings of a construction free resort. Possibly the only one on the Algarve.
The decision to build a golf course, on the land of Quinta de Benamor, in Tavira, Algarve, was made in 1986. The Owning Martins Dias family invited the late Sir Henry Cotton to make a concept design for an 18-hole course. Sir Henry Cotton was inspired by the beautiful old church next to the site of the Clubhouse and by the spectacular location.
The final result is a delightful par 71 golf course of 5,500 metres (6,100 yards), which offers a pleasant playing experience, to players of all standards. The course is undulating but not hilly. The views of the mountains to the North and the Atlantic Ocean to the South are stunning. The indigenous olive, cork, carob, fig and almond trees, many centuries old, feature aesthetically and in playing terms. Water hazards and sand bunkers are located to test the strategy and striking ability of the player.
The Penn A4 greens and tees are simply superb. The fairways of Bermuda Sahara and cool-season grasses, provide good lies for wood and iron shots.
The Benamor Golf Driving Range offers a complete practice facility on a nice and pleasant natural setting whether you are an experienced player or total beginner. It has 16 mats at front end of Driving Range and practice grass at top end with target flags and distance markers.
A Chipping and Pitching green is also located
at top end with a bunker to practice from. For players who wish to concentrate on their putting we have a lovely 9 hole Putting Green situated between Clubhouse and Driving Range.

Only 25 km from Lisbon, Located in a protected pine woodland and close to the coastal town of Caparica, Aroeira is a unique estate comprising of two golf courses and a host of impressive mansions. Designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1973, Aroeira I was affectionately christened the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by the UK press and it is easy to see why.

Opened in 2000, designed by Donald Steel and built to exacting European Tour recommendations, Aroeira II compliments its older sister well. Visitors will enjoy the distinct tranquil and serene Aroeira environment but will discover a course that possesses a few more thrills and spills along the way.

This course, opened in 1929, was refurbished and extended to 27 holes in 1936, by McKenzie Ross. Overlooking Estoril and the sea, the 5200 meter long course is set amongst eucalyptus, mimosas and pine trees, giving a uniquely colorful touch that demands excellent tactics, and challenges in accuracy rather than distance.
The main championship course has hosted some of the most important tournaments in the Portuguese calendar: 20 times the Portuguese Open, 63 times the International Amateur Championship, and also the European Ladies Open and the Women´s European Amateur Championship. To cater for the comfort of the player and to complement the golf there is a splendid clubhouse with a pro shop, bar, changing rooms, swimming pool and a restaurant where you can taste the delights of the Portuguese cuisine, while you are overlooking the 18th hole and a spectacular view over the Atlantic Ocean. The Quinta da Marinha Golf Course, in Cascais, has 18 holes with 5.870 meters of pure nature and big challenges. This par 71, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, offers fantastic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Mountains.
In this course you can really see the style of Robert Trent Jones in the elevated greens and tees, with many bunkers in play and, as expected, some water hazards. Every hole is different, you will have to use all the clubs in the bag and play with strategy to make a good score. Some of the holes you won’t forget are:
Hole 3, Par 4, it is one of the most famous holes of the Portuguese Golf, with view to the Atlantic Ocean, its picture was used for many years to promote “Golf in Portugal” abroad.
Hole 4, Par 3, played over a natural ravine to a quite demanding Green. Hole 13, Par 3, you play over a big lake to an elevated green well protected with 4 bunkers. Hole 18, a beautiful Par 5, with two lakes, all shots have to be well
thought to make sure you are not penalized by the water.
Quinta da Marinha has been host to many high profile professional competitions, such as the Ladies Masters in 1988, won by South African player Laurette Maritz-Atkins. In 2002, the PGA Seniors Tour Championship was won by Denis Durnian after a dramatic suddendeath play-off with the former Ryder Cup star, Eamonn Darcy. And in 2007, the Challenge Tour, was won by Ross McGowan, shooting 66 to beat former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker who was leading the after round three. A stylish new clubhouse overlooks hole nr. 3, and is the perfect place to drink, a well deserved, beer after a round of golf.

The first hole, a generous right handed dogleg, heads north, setting up a spectacular combination of holes overlooking the lagoon (Lagoa de Óbidos). The feature hole of the front nine is the 3rd, a 144m Par 3 off the yellow tees to an island green, with the stunning Óbidos lagoon in the background. The second nine holes overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Six of the holes meander between an
intricate ecosystem of lakes interconnected by cascading streams. The highlight of the back nine is the 18th, a 490m Par 5 off the yellow tees, with a panoramic over the back nine, the clubhouse and the Ocean beyond. The Clubhouse offers varied cuisine in The Legend Restaurant & Bar, two bars, a reception, a golf shop and a collection area. In a large terrace area, both owners and visitors enjoy a breathtaking view over the golf course, with the different lakes, streams and waterfalls, as well as a wonderful and unforgettable sunset, taking the sea as a backdrop.

The golf course design process required a long term, careful study of the site conditions, characteristics and restrictions. The Dye team worked closely with the local government’s
planning and engineering departments as well as several concerned national ministries. The design evolved through many reviews and exhaustive revisions to ensure a minimum disturbance of the environment and protection of the areas of existing drainage basins, dinosaur fossils and heritage pine trees.
The beauty and challenge of this rare ocean side links course grows with each passing hole and although thrilling and dramatic it is available to all levels of golfers.

An 18-hole par 71 course of 6005 meters, Ponte de Lima Golf Club was inaugurated on the 15th of September 1995. Located on the rural area of Ponte de Lima, the golf course is a mix between level and hilly, the first nine holes being hilly and the second nine level. These unique characteristics in the northern region delight players with the fantastic views over the Lima valley as well as having contact with the typical Minho countryside. In the middle of the course, between holes 1, 10, 9, 18, is situated the Clubhouse where various services, such as reception, golf shop, hire of equipment, restaurant, bar, terrace,

The award-winning Vidago Palace Hotel Golf Course was redesigned by the firm Cameron & Powell from an original by Mackenzie Ross built in 1936. The course has now been rebuilt from scratch to meet USGA specifications for greens and tees and has been transformed into a par 72 course.
The Vidago Palace Hotel Golf Course is a course of striking contrasts, all with a particular respect for the natural surroundings. Distinctive features of this course include the support walls of all the tees, which are made of local stone, and the century-old trees, almost all of which have been preserved.
The first four holes, played within the Centenary Park of the Vidago Palace Hotel, anticipate the next 11, newly built in the Oura valley. The last three are played in the upper part of the Centenary Park, and afford
magnificent views to the neighboring hills and villages. Every hole is a challenge and each of the last nine is completely different from the one before, giving golfers the opportunity to deploy their full range of shots.
The comprehensive nature of the Vidago Palace offering has been demonstrated by it hosting the Portuguese Senior Open in 2014 –part of the European Senior Tour – as well the Bonallack and Patsy Hankins Trophies in 2016, the international amateur match between Europe and Asia- Pacific.

Porto Santo Golfe is a 27 hole golf club on the scenic island of Porto Santo in Madeira, Portugal. It has 2 different golf courses, 18 holes in our championship course and 9 par 3 holes in our academy course.
It opened on October 1st, 2004, and was designed by the Spanish 5-time major winner, Severiano Ballesteros.
The Championship course has 7,041 yard, par 72 layout features spectacular views, particularly on the back nine, as holes 13, 14 and 15 run alongside the rugged coastline. The signature hole is the par 3 13th, which
measures 200 yards and requires a shot over a gorge to reach the cliff-top green. In addition to the Championship course, we have the Academy course which is great for beginners or for practise irons shots. There are also tennis facilities on-site.
Porto Santo Golfe was a venue for the Madeira Islands Open between 2009 and 2012 on the European Tour.
