Editor's Note

With one more short month to go until we see the start of spring, there’s a lot of positives to take from recent weeks and looking ahead into this coming February.

Despite there been no ‘official’ 4th government lockdown over Christmas and New Year, so many of us are (rightly so) still been ultracautious, acting in a safe and considerate manner to protect ourselves, loved ones, and others; in addition to having vaccinations and boosters. Staying open was good news for the local business community, particularly in the retail and leisure sectors, to be able to continue trading across Christmas and the New Year. Anymore closures would have resulted in losing more vital trade and income. And, now the government has lifted restrictions further, everybody, public and businesses alike, can start to look ahead to 2022, albeit most of us will make our plans tentatively. As we move past a cold, dreary December, and January winter, we enter February and look ahead. Not only is Spring in the air, but hopefully, a little more positivity and confidence too. If we all start to safely and cautiously, look to ‘living’ more ‘normally’ again (not that ‘normal’ will ever be quite the same again), we can start to get out and about, enjoying open space with and fresh air. This could be walking (on your own enjoying the peace and quiet, or whilst listening to music), walking the dog, walking with your partner or as a family, enjoying a chat whilst you go. Maybe you take things a little more seriously with planned longer walks, hiking, jogging, or running. There has also been an uptake in the number of people getting back into cycling too. We need to do this for all our own physical and mental health, and for the health of our family and friends, for whom, some haven’t seen each other in person for a quite a while. May be this is the year that you set yourself a challenge and complete an activity or event for charity. People and businesses are not the only ones that have struggled during the pandemic, charities have found this a difficult time too with donations down on previous years. There also seems to be a little more consumer confidence too! And it is so important that we support our local retailers and businesses, shopping local and supporting our local economy across Hull & the East Riding. Some businesses have fared particularly well throughout the pandemic, with consumer spend being invested into home improvements, partly due to income made available through a reduction in spending in other areas e.g., not being able to go out as much or book holidays. Many retailers have done so well to stay resilient, diversify and weather the storm through all the difficulties brought by the Covid19 pandemic of the last 2 years. But they all need our help now, more than ever, to try to recover and build security for their future of their businesses, and the livelihoods of the owners and employees. There’s much we can look forward to from here on out... Hopefully, we’ve moved on and aren’t faced with anymore enforced government lockdowns and we can put them behind us. We are also looking forward to seeing some slightly brighter and warmer weather coming our way leaving the long, dark, and wet winter

months behind, along with the recent storms. Can you make the most of the opportunity to get outside, exercise and complete some challenges or activities to raise money for charity? From a financial perspective, January can be a very long and difficult month for many people and families, especially given the recent impact and uncertainty of the pandemic combined with increases in cost of living. Is this the year to start looking at things a little differently, paying more attention to how we spend our money or understand how we can make our money go further for us? How do we enable ourselves to be able to go out and enjoy doing the things we want to do; buy the things we want to buy, but without breaking the bank? Maybe by being savvier with our weekly food shop, reviewing our monthly expenditure including switching to more competitive energy or insurance providers, stopping services or products we are paying for but no longer use or could find a more competitive alternative? Thinking a little smarter about building up our savings and putting money aside for holidays, home improvements or changing that ageing car. We could have conversations with financial experts who can help us to better understand our options for savings, investments, and pensions. Maybe, love is in the air for many with Valentines mid-February too. I’ve had many inteesting conversations with friends and colleagues who would typically, due to work, spend a fair amount of time away from their families, partners and loved ones however, they’ve been able to have a lot of quality, family time together, growing closer and making memories due to Covid restrictions. And maybe this is one of the reasons that we are seeing so many people changing jobs right now, especially with more ‘remote’ or ‘work from home’ roles available. Now is the time to start planning your gardening and DIY projects for the year too. Preparing for starting the sowing process early for vegetables and some plants from February, and general sowing from April. Working outside and starting to enjoy the warmer weather. Obviously, it’s important to have a little down time too and we hope that reading HEY Magazine is part of this. Also on page 21, there’s an opportunity to win an Amazon Alexa Echo Dot, all you need to do is like and follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and share our competition post. We hope you all have a fabulous February. Be well, stay safe and happy reading. Phil and the HEY Magazine Team

Who are Humbercare? Humbercare are a local voluntary organisation and registered charity, established in 1989 we have delivered local services for local people for the last 33 years. Over the years our services have been designed in partnership and commissioned by the Humberside Probation Service and by Local Authorities across the four Humber sub regions. We also deliver services funded by the Humber NHS Teaching Trust and receive grant monies from various charitable organisations. The focus of our work is supporting vulnerable adults and young people to achieve independent living with the core focus of working with those that have offended, are at risk of offending or those facing multiple disadvantages such as homelessness, mental health issues, adverse trauma or general barriers to community living. What do we do? Humbercare is breaking down barriers that socially excluded individuals face when accessing housing and support services. Enabling an opportunity for all individuals to realise and develop their own potential. We deliver a number of services ranging from low level advice and guidance provision through to high level complex care and support that is regulated by the Care Quality Commission. We work under the umbrella of a registered Social Landlord delivering a large housing portfolio across Hull, East Riding and North East Lincolnshire. Through which we provide low level supported accommodation, for those individuals that present as homeless, are leaving care, are being discharged from hospital or prison without an address or have experienced tenancy or family/relationship breakdowns and need accommodation and a little support and guidance to learn how to manage a tenancy and a home, gain some stability in their lives and integrate into local communities utiltising the many local statutory and voluntary services available to them for additional support. Through weekly visits by our team of housing officers we can help people to get on track, access the services they need, learn and develop independent living skills, learn how to manage a tenancy and eventually work towards moving on to long term accommodation without the need for support. 4

Humbercare delivers the local Westbourne House Housing Related Support Service, commissioned by the local authority to provide accommodation and support to those that the local authority identify and refer to us as homeless or rough sleeping. The service exists to support people from the streets, providing a roof over their head whilst delivering person centred support packages addressing personal issues that may have led to their homelessness. Support provision can include basic hygiene and nutrition support, social inclusion activities, accessing the appropriate benefits, registration with GPs and dentists, and supporting with referrals to relevant services such as counselling, domestic abuse support, mental health and substance misuse services. The end goal is to move them on, into independent accommodation, enabling people to have brighter futures. The many other services we deliver, which can all be found on our website, all focus on care and support to individuals within their own homes, be this a home provided by Humbercare or any other accommodation provider including their own home. The support can be from a minimal one hour per week ranging to 24-hour live-in support by our staff team, all delivered in accordance with commissioned contract specifications and service users’ needs and wishes. Support as above is advice, guidance, care and support packages tailored to the individual to support them to secure, maintain and then sustain independent living, moving on from our services at a time that is appropriate to them, when they are ready to live independently without support. Who are our staff team? We currently have a team of around 150 staff with an age range of 18 to 70. We are a diverse employer inclusive of a fair proportion of mixed gender and currently employ 24% of the staff team that are considered to have a registered disability. We offer permanent contracts in the main but also provide secondment opportunities, temporary contracts, zero hours contracts as per the wishes of the applicant and needs of a service. Our staff retention is positive with high numbers of the staff team having long lengths of service, for example our managers team, many of whom have progressed through from support worker positions, the majority have 10 years and more as length of service. Our team comes to us through many routes, some have lived experience and some are fresh out of college or university following completion of Criminology, Psychology or Health and Social Care or Social Work courses. So why join us? Many of the roles at Humbercare do not require a

qualification or specific working experience as we offer on the job training and extensive training packages. We look for common sense, compassion, commitment to our cause and the desire to make a difference to people’s lives. Many staff utilise our opportunities as a stepping stone to gain valuable experience of the sector and have successfully moved on to secure careers in Police, Probation Service and Social Work departments. The roles we hold include receptionists, cleaners, caretakers, finance assistants, administration assistants, housing officers, support workers, care workers, team leaders, senior

Navigation Wealth Management A Senior Practice Partner of St. James’s Place Wealth Management

New office now open in Beverley. Navigation Wealth Management Ltd have just opened their new office on Spencer Street, Beverley, and provide holistic wealth management advice to clients based across the UK, helping them to achieve their individual financial aspirations. They are renowned for demonstrating knowledge & expertise, offering sound advice and exceptional service, as demonstrated in their nomination as an awards finalist for Customer Service Team of the Year 2022 at the Yorkshire Financial Awards. Navigation Wealth Management was founded in 2000 by David North, one of three owners of the business alongside colleagues, Darren Wood and CEO, Matt Hammond: and working in partnership alongside St. James’s Place Wealth Management, a FTSE 100 company. Matt told me “when you hear the words, wealth management, it can often be interpreted as a service just for the wealthy, but it’s absolutely not the case”. Matt explains “we offer financial advice for everyone, whether it’s somebody starting on the property ladder for the first time who requires a mortgage or life protection to keep their family safe, all the way through to planning for; or at retirement, investment and inheritance tax planning for both individuals and corporate companies”. We provide advice and services to individuals, business owners and medical professionals, including GPs and Dentists.

“Local businesses are welcome to use our board room Free of Charge”

12

www.heymagazine.co.uk | February 2022

At Navigation Wealth Management Ltd, “we believe in spending time with our clients, building long term relationships, to ensure we learn about you, your current position and discuss your aspirations for the future. This is achieved through regular face-to-face meetings to build, monitor, review and amend investment propositions, which we feel are essential to effective financial planning”. Speaking with Matt, who was born in Beverley and attended school in Hornsea, he told us “We believe in good old fashioned, client-centric advice and service”. “We aim to give every one of our clients an individually tailored service to help meet their objectives. Matt explained that they been growing a team of financial advisers in the business with varying specialisms, allowing the company to provide a service for any need. “We have 45 team members, 21 of which are Financial Advisers or Client Relationship Managers, and 6 of these advisors are based here in Beverley”. Matt said “we have clients all over the UK and beyond, but we had a huge presence in East Yorkshire with existing clients. It was them who suggested we should bring our award-winning advice and service to Beverley”. Matt says that he isn’t surprised by the welcome they have received from the local community. “It’s been a warm and supportive reception, which is everything that the people of East Yorkshire are known for, and I hope to meet more of the local community now our doors are open for business”. Navigation Wealth Management have already done their part to give back and reciprocate this by supporting several local charities and good causes including the Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ Appeal and by donating over £6,000 in recent fundraising activities (2021). Matt told me “I’d love to be able to take that up and increase it further in 2022”. Matt is also keen to support local businesses too, explaining “we have also made the use of our brand new, 12-seater

and this can end up with the wrong outcome. If investors have an active relationship with their trusted financial adviser, they should have a reassuring level of contact and communication, with their financial advisers being there to provide assurances and updates on events, thus avoiding any knee-jerk reactions that could cost the client in the longer term”.

board room, available to any local businesses that may require the use of a meeting room, free of charge. We are proud to be part of the local business community, it’s all about supporting and helping each other where we can”. As you would expect, we were always going to end up talking about the Covid19 pandemic and its effect on the financial markets and ultimately, investors. The effects of the pandemic on business proved a difficult period to navigate and an unsettling time for investors due to the fear of the unknown. Matt spoke honestly and openly explaining “we are living through a period of unprecedented change and uncertainty. With volatile markets, changes in regulation and taxation, we constantly review and give careful consideration as to how these factors will impact on our clients”. Matt went on to say, “nobody has any previous experience to directly compare to these unprecedented circumstances and the journey we’ve been on, there are no comparisons to make against previous events making it more difficult to make predictions on how the market will react”. “However, we increased our contact to clients to provide reassurance and ongoing service” said Matt. “We wanted to ensure that any decisions the clients made were as informed as possible as opposed to emotional reactions. And our plan is to stick with this method throughout 2022”. Matt elaborated further with an example explaining “We have to learn to live with the noise as there will always be uncertainty. A good example I use to help affirm this point is that you wouldn’t jump out of an aeroplane if you hit some turbulence. You’d ride it out, placing your trust in the knowledge and experience of teams in control (the pilots, or advisors in this case) and wait for the plane to land safely. In simple terms, don’t react to emotions, seek professional advice and utilise their expertise”.

Matt explained “we pride ourselves on exceptionally high standards of financial planning with trust and professionalism forming the basis of our client relationships. Our sole aim is to provide our clients with the very best financial advice and ongoing service, putting our clients’ needs at the heart of the business”. And the proof is in the pudding. Navigation Wealth Management has been voted one of the Top 3 financial advice companies in Wakefield in 2020. More recently, they are a finalist in the ‘Customer Service Team of the Year’ category in the Yorkshire Financial Advice Awards 2021, with the results being announced at an awards ceremony in February 2022. Matt says, “we have our fingers crossed for a positive outcome at the awards, I am immensely proud of all of the team at Navigation Wealth Management, for all of their hard work and the level of service they are providing to our clients”. “As we look forward in 2022, we have our new events programme planned for our clients and guests, ranging from golf days to afternoon teas and sporting dinners, all held at local venues and with the aim of raising money for local charities”. Navigation Wealth Management welcomes existing and new clients to arrange meetings to discuss their future plans to secure a brighter future, either via video call or in person at their offices on Spencer Street, Beverley. To receive a complimentary guide covering wealth management, retirement planning or inheritance tax planning, contact Navigation Wealth Management on 01482 379504 or email navigationwm@sjpp.co.uk Navigation Wealth Management Ltd is an Appointed Representative of and represents only St. James's Place Wealth Management plc (which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority).

This client-centric approach that has helped all of Navigation Wealth Management clients feel informed and comfortable during these times. Matt and his team are always aiming to provide a relaxed, relationship-based feeling to their clients whilst offering the highest level of professionalism. Matt explains “it’s why ‘active’ financial advice is so important. It’s natural for many investors react with emotion,

WILKO JOHNSON Wilko is famed for his blistering chop-chord strumming action (the ‘stab’, as he describes it), a technique inspired by his admiration of the late Pirates guitarist Mick Green. With this electrifying sound, his trademark black-suited, scowling look and his characteristic strut, Wilko became one of the guitar heroes of the 1970s and beyond, not to mention on of rock ’n’ roll’s most extraordinary characters. He, alongside his original Feelgood bandmates, is also widely acknowledged as a forefather of punk on both sides of the Atlantic, fans ranging from Joe Strummer to Blondie. Following a stint with Ian Dury & The Blockheads in the 1980s, he formed the Wilko Johnson Band, with Blockheads bassist Norman Watt-Roy. Featuring former Blockhead Dylan Howe on drums, the trio is known as one of the most exciting r’n’b bands in the world today. Special guest ‘Rock and Roll’s Greatest Failure John Otway. Pasco’s Italian – St Andrews Quay

A family-owned Italian restaurant serving high quality fresh food with a wide menu of Italian dishes including pizza, pasta, and antipasti, accompanied by exceptional service. familiar from its days as a Frankie & Benny’s however, the seats and tables are probably the only remaining features. The whole restaurant was clean, fresh and has been tastefully refurbished with a simple, classy, and elegant finish using cool and calming tones. Our drinks were ordered and arrived at the table in less than 15 minutes. The soft drinks were refreshing, served with lemon or lime, and ice. I had a pint of Budweiser draught that was crisp and cold – lovely!

As a family, we’ve have been eating at Pasco’s Italian Restaurant in Cottingham since we moved to the village in 2012 and have always loved it. Great food and great service. It’s always nice to see local, family-owned businesses doing well, and Pasco’s is no exception! Due to their hard work and determination combined with a strong local reputation for food that is prepared and cooked fresh by their chefs for customers to enjoy, with great service. During the pandemic and lockdowns, while the restaurant at St Andrews Quay was being refurbished, the team at Pasco’s Cottingham were busy diversifying their business in order to be able to continue serving food to customers in Hull & East Riding during lockdown, providing vital services such as using their supply chain to to source essential items when some of the supermarkets were struggling for stock, in addition to selling fresh vegetables, fruit and staple foods, and offering a takeaway service. When some restrictions were lifted, Pasco’s supported local customers with the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme. So, we were delighted to be invited to visit their 2nd restaurant that opened recently on St Andrews Quay Retail Park, Hull, in the building that was formerly Frankie & Benny’s Restaurant. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, late January, and our first impression was the availability and accessibility of free car parking. We arrived at 3pm and after walking through the large glass doors, we received a warm and friendly welcome inside at the front desk. At a quick first glance, the restaurant seemed

22

We had a choice of the afternoon menus or the evening menu’s because it was 3pm in the afternoon but they weren’t caught up on this, we could choose whichever we wanted. Both menus were comprehensive and varied, catering for all types of food preferences, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan. For the main courses, there’s a large menu with plenty of choices. For our starters, my wife and 2 boys shared a garlic bread that was made fresh, served at just the right temperature and was delicious. I had the Homemade, Italian-Style Pâté, served with Garnish & Toasted Ciabatta Bread which was delightful. My eldest son is an SEN child with autism and, as a result, has quite a limited diet and sensory issues. He found the environment comfortable with no issues. He likes breadsticks but not the sides served with them, when he asked, the staff were friendly, and helpful and they brought him a selection of different flavoured breadsticks for him to try, unaware of his autism and SEN needs. Throughout the meal we found the service to be exceptional, staff were always passing by, checking-in to make sure everything was okay for us (but not too often) and onhand to get extra drinks. We did wonder if it was just us receiving this level of service (being asked to visit for this review) but as we looked around the restaurant, this seemed to be the norm. We saw the same service being offered to all customers, nothing was too much trouble and everyone seemed just as pleased as we were, exchanging smiles, laughs and pleasant banter during their meal, with a couple of instances of singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and joining in the celebrations for other guests thrown-in too… For our main courses, my sons chose to share a Margherita Pizza made with Tomato and Mozzarella Cheese which they thoroughly enjoyed and polished off leaving a clean plate. My wife had the Burger served with Salad and Chips. It’s

Being brutally honest, we’ve been to other restaurants where we’ve paid more money for food that wasn’t a patch on Pasco’s and certainly doesn’t get anywhere near the exceptional service we experienced. We would describe Pasco’s as a high quality, customer-focused restaurant, offering great value, All the staff seemed happy, resulting in a pleasant environment where nothing is too much trouble. Pasco’s is great value for money with no sacrifice for freshness and quality of the food or at any detriment of service. We would recommend Pasco’s Italian, at either St Andrews Quay or Cottingham, as an excellent family-friendly restaurant. worth noting that the salad is prepared fresh in the kitchen and includes Peppers. My wife is severely allergic to Peppers, and we stated this when ordering her meal, and this wasn’t problem at all. Our waiter took this as seriously as it is and ensured that her salad was prepared totally separate to any areas of possible cross-contamination with Peppers. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara which is Spaghetti cooked with Cured Bacon, Cream, Egg Yolk & Parmesan Cheese. All of the main courses served were hot, fresh, tasty and of generous proportions.

To book call 01482 848419, or email: booking@pascositalian. co.uk For more info visit their website here or follow them on facebook - www.facebook.com/pascositalian

Of course, we tried to save some room for desert – it would be rude not too! My youngest son was eager to try the Syrup Sponge and had the option for it to be served with Custard, Ice Cream or Fresh Crème which, naturally, he ordered with Ice Cream like most 13-year-old boys would. He really enjoyed it despite just not quite managing to finish it due to the generous portion sizes. My eldest son opted for the Mint Choc Gelato, which was so tasty that, when he couldn’t finish it due to being full, he was kindly offered a sealed container for him to take home what was left, which he thoroughly enjoyed finishing off as a treat on Sunday afternoon. My wife enjoyed a cup of tea and we enjoyed trying the White Choc Profiteroles too. Our visit lasted 1hr 45 minutes in total which worked out perfectly in terms of timings for food and drink servings, with enough time (but not too long) between courses to enjoy a chat and let the previous course settle

Hull Jets

Kingston Sharks

HULL JETS LAIDLER CUP CHAMPIONS!! Hull Jets and their away fans made a trip to Telford on Saturday 22nd January 2022, for the second leg of the Laidler Cup.

Scoring first is always a huge boost to any team, and the first goal went to Kieran Beach of Hull Jets, two minutes before the first period was due to end.

The first round of the cup had been played in Hull, 1 week earlier, and saw Hull Jets defeated with a score line 2-4 to Telford Tigers.

In the second period Hull Jets had the best start possible just 22 seconds in, Hull Jets scored the aggregate equaliser, Telford Tigers came back quickly, scoring to take the lead on aggregate once more.

Hull Jets knew they needed a strong, fast start to the game to be in with a chance of winning and that is what the team did – with a majority of the puck possession during the first period being Hull Jets.

However, the lead didn’t last long for Telford – Hull Jets fought hard to score another equaliser, followed by another goal just before the end of the 2nd period. Hull Jets started the final period in the lead by 1 goal, but score lines change quickly in Ice Hockey, they knew they needed to press hard to keep the advantage, which they did with finding the net again, giving them a 2-goal advantage. Telford Tigers did get one goal back and it was a tense last 10 minutes for Hull Jets, they held on, the final score saw Hull Jets win 6-7 on aggregate. Hull were worthy winners, the team showed determination and heart, the away fans were truly amazing, loud in voice and encouragement. HEY Magazine were proud to be part of the fans base on the night – we had a great time.

Formerly, the Hull Indoor Sports Centre, located on Harpings Road, just off National Avenue, Hull, the venue is fondly remembered for its 5-a-side football pitches and Little Monkeys children’s soft play area.

During the Covid19 pandemic, they embarked on the task of transforming the tired centre into a fresh and modern venue for all... and they succeeded! a fine layer of compost or vermiculite. Keep the pots in a light, warm spot indoors, ensuring the compost stays moist. Pink and white lily flowers Lilies are fantastic summer border flowers, and work well in cut flower arrangements. Plant the bulbs any time from autumn to spring in a sunny spot, in rich, well-drained soil, around 15-20cm deep. If you have heavy, wet soil, it’s best to plant them in pots, to plant out later.

What to plant in February February is a good month to several types of seeds. By sowing seeds early on in the year, you can enjoy flowers your flowers for longer. If you have a heated grow lamp, you can start planting your chillies, aubergines and sweet peppers in February. Otherwise, sowing the seeds of annual flowers such as cosmos, in pots on a warm, sunny window sill, will work just as well. February is also a good time to plant summer-flowering bulbs in pots. You can plant Japanese anemones and geraniums. By planting these in February you can get them off to a good start, as they will start growing as soon as temperatures warms up.

Pineapple lily (Eucomis) flowers Exotic pineapple lilies (Eucomis) are usually planted in spring, however, it’s not too early to plant them in February, but you’ll have more success if you plant them in pots, as open ground can be wet at this time of year, causing the bulbs to rot. Plant the bulbs 15cm deep in pots in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse, and plant out into the garden when all risk of frost has passed. Feathery pink liatris blooms Liatris are tough, herbaceous perennials hailing from North America, beloved by bees and butterflies. Large, extravagant blooms come in shades of pink, purple and white. Plant the bulbs in light, free-draining soil, around 5cm deep. If you have heavy, or waterlogged soil, plant the bulbs in pots to plant out later.

Cosmos Cosmos are easy flowers to grow and they look great in borders or meadows. The seeds need light to germinate, so sow on top of peat-free seed compost in a tray or plant pot placed indoors in a sunny spot such as a window sill, then pick out when large enough to handle.

Tall blue flowerheads of agapanthus There are many beautiful types of agapanthus to grow, and getting them started couldn’t be easier. Containers are ideal for growing agapanthus, as you can bring them under cover in winter if you need to. Plant the bulbs 8-10cm deep, 10-15cm apart in good quality, welldrained compost. Once frosts have passed, move the pot outdoors to a warm, sunny position.

Pink sweet pea Sweet peas are a stalwart of summer garden and they’re easy to grow. Sow seeds individually into biodegradable pots or cardboard tubes, as they can be planted out in their containers to avoid root disturbance. Keep them in an unheated greenhouse or cold frame and harden off before planting out.

Galtonia Galtonia, or summer hyacinths, are stately plants that produce tall spikes of nodding white flowers, which look particularly good when planted in large drifts. They do best in a sunny position in free-draining soil, where the bulbs should be planted 10cm deep, 10cm apart. In heavy soils, plant in pots.

Salvia flowers Salvias are great for providing structure and height in the garden, and many varieties can be grown from seed. Sow the seeds in February, scattering them on top of peat-free seed compost, and then cover the seeds with

We hope you enjoy your gardens!

Horoscopes Aquarius Jan. 20-Feb. 18 Hermit mode continues for much of February. However, the difference between last month and what’s up ahead is that you’re clarifying the big-picture truths about who you are and what you’re willing to offer—especially in your relationships. You’ve been uncovering and looking inward at the parts of yourself you’ve kept small and hidden. For some time, this strategy has been invaluable for your self-preservation. But it keeps you stagnant— and it’s time for a change. Pisces Feb. 19-March 20 You’ve been trudging down memory lane and down the path of honesty when it comes to your place with the 34

people around you. Belonging has often been a tender subject. But friendships and platonic relationships hold such meaningful space for you, and it’s a shame that the world insists on romantic connections as supreme. Take some time away from externalizing and get centred. Sometimes the answers you are seeking become clearer once you take away all the extra movement and noise. Aries March 21-April 19 It seems paradoxical to plan for a future when you’re dealing with seemingly insurmountable uncertainties and too many variables outside of your control. Perhaps if you learned anything in the past month, change is the only

www.heymagazine.co.uk | February 2022

constant. Your effort will not always yield success—and maybe it’s time you shed this binary way of thinking. Be present in the life you are living today. It’s okay to be cautiously optimistic even in the face of despair. Perhaps it’s even more vital that you keep hope alive. Taurus April 20-May 20 What you believe in inherently and essentially shapes how you experience your reality. The past month has been a reckoning of sorts—a confrontation with old ideologies that have kept you inexperienced and unexposed to other possibilities. Now you get to dream new dreams and trudge new paths. Perhaps it’s a fool’s journey, but nothing will change if

you keep insisting on doing the same thing. Take some measured risks and keep it moving. Gemini May 21-June 21 It takes heaps of literal energy to metabolize and psychologically process all the ways you’re hurting. It means you must take care of yourself. So much of life is really about the emotional work that cultivates useful wisdom and valuable skills. The kind of proficiency that builds resilience over time and constructively shapes how you see your life in nuanced and appropriate doses of realism and awe. Isn’t life such a bewildering affair? Keep going. Cancer June 22-July 22 Well, you of all people

know all of life is relationships. What’s the point if you can’t proudly scream from the rooftops who you belong to? Belonging not in the sense of possession, that is, but in the sense of caring devotion. This is what makes life meaningful to you. With this, you have been tasked to also parse through the connections you’ve outgrown. This is okay. Some breaks are heartbreaking; some just happen through time. But you must remain honest with the truth of your heart. Leo July 23-Aug. 22 You know that being useful and helpful may have given you the fleeting affection and attention you need. But you must also understand that this kind of care leans too much towards the transactional. The type that is hard to sustain should you find yourself even slightly inadequate in the eyes of your beloveds. So what now? It’s also possible that all of this story making is internalized and not at all objective. That perhaps your people actually love you for all your flaws and ineptitude. Maybe it’s

a pressure you’re also building within. Please take a closer look. Virgo Aug. 23-Sept. 22 Hopefully, you’ve had some space, whether tangible or mostly internalized, to contemplate how you’re managing your responsibilities and your craving for more spaciousness, more desire, more innerchild playtime. As you push forward and show up to your adult responsibilities, remind yourself to only commit to work and situations that are resonant to your desires for pleasure. The bucket of obligations drudgery, of “you just have to do it,” is already full. Don’t add more if you can help it. Libra Sept. 23-Oct. 22 If you could revisit a moment in your past to watch as if you’re viewing it like an audience sitting in a dark theatre, which part of your memories would you like to become familiar with again? The difference, of course, is that you are rewatching it with the you that exists today. What changes between the time that memory

occurred to the time that is operating now? How has the passage of time shapeshifted your resentment, forgiveness, softness, and rage? Scorpio Oct. 23-Nov. 21 Living under conditions with more restraints and less spontaneous flow requires that you get creative with your own journeying. Whether it’s ideal or not, chances are your in-the-flesh reality has made it more difficult to wander aimlessly, without care. Because now there’s more deliberation required to move from point A to B. With this in mind, how are you stretching your zones so that even though your world feels a lot smaller, you’re not metaphorically wasting away? How can you channel more hope, curiosity and cautious optimism in your daily life? Sagittarius Nov. 22-Dec. 21 It’s prime time for you to double check, recalculate and see in a new light how you’re handling your valuable material resources. Within this is also

evaluating how you may have been potentially underestimating yourself. Go ahead and improve your financial literacy, because it’s a disservice to yourself to just chuck it to the seemingly elusive intricacies of the mechanism of money. This excuse, perhaps, was okay for some time. Still, you have to untangle this confusing relationship so you can move forward with more confidence and clarity. Capricorn Dec. 22-Jan. 19 The hurrah and novelty of the new year may have been slightly anticlimactic this time, but this slow and steady energy of self-renewal continues to this month. There’s an emphasis on sustainability as a theme in all kinds of contexts in your life. But particularly around how you feel supported. Do you keep your word when it comes to the boundaries you set for yourself? Just start there.
