ASSOCIATION
Life Moves On I estimate that this is the 90th article I have had the privilege to compose for the great CB Times magazine; and it is a great magazine. In developing many of those articles, I have been challenged at times with “writers block”. This one is simple, and in some ways very easy to write but very hard in other ways. By now, at the time this magazine is in your mailbox, I’ve moved on to another
Mike Arrington, General Manager
assignment and you have a new General Manager in place. First, I want to wish whomever your new GM is the best of luck and congratulate them for being Corte Bella’s choice. This is a great honor in my estimation and should be considered to be a rare and special opportunity. My time at Corte Bella lasted seven and a half years, and I consider it to be a very special time for me and a cornerstone of my career in the Community Management industry. Although it has not been easy at times, and the road was a little bumpy, all roads are bumpy to a degree. I consider my time at Corte Bella to be a blessed time for me whereas I met many fantastic and interesting folks, and made lots of friends along the way. There are 17.5 miles of streets and 1650 homes in Corte Bella and they’re ripe with some of the best folks on the planet. I will remember my time here as pleasant, productive, and a rare opportunity to serve the best of the best.
(L-R) Photographers Mike Biggs, Jim Laskowicz and Mike Arrington celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the CB Times. I leave behind a well-trained and talented team of individuals that I have been proud to lead and serve with. It is rare to have such a strong team of special individuals, and I have grown fond of them in many ways. I’m so grateful to them for their service to the community as well as to me. They became family over the years and I will miss them as well. Take some comfort in knowing that you have a talented group of individuals of high character that you can trust and depend on working for Corte Bella. Lastly, I am not going far and I’ll try to visit Corte Bella as often as possible to say hello and catch up. Many of you have touched my life in a very special way that I will never forget. I’m so grateful to you. It has been my honor and pleasure to serve you, and wish you only the best in your future. I will say for the final time here, “Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. It is yet another excellent and awesome day in Corte Bella”. Good luck and God bless! Kind Regards, Mike
From the Editor’s Desk July, the second month of summer, brings us to what is traditionally the warmest month in the Northern Hemisphere. We Arizonans know all about the “dog days of summer” that take us into August and
Linda Wright, Editor CB Times
often beyond. It’s also the mid-point of the year. We will celebrate the 245th Independence Day here in the USA. It’s interesting that many other countries also have their independence days during this month. Happy 4th of July to all of Corte Bella. August is known for things like National Hot Dog Day (August 26), Purple Heart Day (August 7), National Bowling Day (August 14) and National Tell a Joke Day (August 16th). The month is named for Augustus, the first emperor of Rome, Cesar Augustus.
Meanwhile, here in Corte Bella, those who remain for the summer will be walking the circle in the early morning hours, making use of the shade cover at the pool, and using the sports courts at night. Make sure to take advantage of the ice cream social (free ice cream treats) on July 25, go to the summer comedy show on July 16 and plan to attend the TAD concert “Prince Again” on August 6th. On August 15th, Corte Bella will head by bus to the cooler temperatures of Prescott for the Wine and Arts Festival. Remember that the Anacapa patio has sun shades and very effective misters. Have a good summer and take good care of each other. As editor of this publication, I want to thank our previous general manager (my direct supervisor) for his support and guidance during my tenure as editor. Best wishes to you Mike, and thank you for almost 8 years of service to Corte Bella. Well done.

Board Talk In 1939, Gene Autry recorded a song called “Back in the Saddle Again”. After serving 6 years on our board and a year off due to term limits, I feel like the title song applies to me. I want to thank the residents of Corte Bella for the confidence they
Michael McVeigh, HOA Board Vice President
placed in me again and look forward to serving you for the next 3 years. This is a bitter/sweet time for me and I know many of you will understand why. The first year I was elected in 2014, Mike Arrington conducted the candidate night events, and he has been our General Manager since then. He is now moving on to another opportunity with First Service Residential. We’ll miss his leadership in many ways. I thank him personally for all he has done for our community and wish him all the best in his new community.
By the time you read this, we’ll have a new General Manager in place. Our new board is coming together nicely and we are committed to working together to address the many challenges we will be confronted with in 2021 and beyond. I would like to thank the previous board for their commitment during the COVID-19 challenges. It seemed like each week they faced challenges that no board has faced in our history. The daily balance between CDC guidelines, vaccination of residents, takeout options for the Anacapa, opening and closing of facilities, social distancing, and more importantly, dealing with the stress and emotions of residents with different views of what the board should/should not do on our behalf, tested everyone. The board rose to the occasion and should be commended. We are moving forward to many of the events we had in the past and I look forward to seeing all of you at our events.
Introducing Leann Blue The Corte Bella Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of Leann Blue (left) as our new General Manager. She has officially accepted the position with an effective staring date of June 24th. Jennifer Clifford, First Service Residential (FSR) Vice President, did an extensive search (both within and outside the FSR organization) and presented our board with final interviews in early June. Leann comes to us from Arizona Traditions where she has served for the past two years. Arizona Traditions has over 1700 properties and she managed over 300 volunteers. She started with FSR in 2011 and has won awards as Rising Star in 2012; Above & Beyond in 2016; Emerging Leaders in 2016 and Excellence in Community Management award in 2019. Leann’s reputation throughout her career is that of an outstanding communicator and leader. Prior to joining FSR, Leann spent 10 years as a property manager in a Las Vegas community with 1593 units. Before this career change, she managed a restaurant and sports bar for 10 years.
If you see Leann, please stop and introduce yourself and welcome her to Corte Bella. She will make an excellent addition to our beautiful community. We also thank Mike Arrington for his leadership and dedication to Corte Bella for the past 7 1/2 years and wish him well in his new position.

stirring constantly, for about 3 minutes. Adjust the heat as necessary -- if the rice is cooked at too high a heat, it will turn brown and take on an undesirable flavor. Using a ladle, scoop up about ½ to ¾ cup of broth. Pour it in the pan with the rice, stirring constantly with a spoon. After the first addition of broth, the rice mixture will look a bit soupy. As the rice begins to cook, stir it constantly, making sure that you scrape along the bottom of the pan so that it does not stick. You should see little bubbles popping up on the liquid from time to time. If it bubbles more vigorously than this, turn the heat down to medium-low. When most of the liquid is absorbed into the rice and the rice begins to look a bit dry, add another ladle of broth to the pan and stir constantly, as before. (If you did not grill your veggies, add in at this point so they can cook with your rice.) Continue to add the broth in ½-to-¾-cup batches and stir the rice until you have used most of the broth. (This will probably take about 20 minutes). It is now time to test whether the risotto is cooked. Spoon up a grain of rice and bite into it -- should be tender without being too mushy. If it is still crunchy and tastes a bit starchy, you will need to continue adding liquid and cooking further. At this point add your grilled vegetables. I also like to add a little cream to my risotto to give it more richness. Stir in well and check seasoning. When the rice is tender and the risotto has a creamy consistency, almost like thick oatmeal, it is done. Remove from heat, stir occasionally. Stir in Havarti chunks right before serving. Sprinkle a few on top if you like.
Viva Vino - The Wines of New Mexico Deborah Damery Lazear, CSW New Mexico is famous for its art, its food (Hatch chiles), and weather. Now, it is becoming well known for its wine. There are three AVAs (American Viticultural Area) in New Mexico. Mimbres Valley AVA, designated in 1985, is located in southwestern New Mexico near the towns of Deming and Silver City. Most vineyards are planted at between 4000 ft. and 6000 ft. elevation. The area is a desert (9 inches of rain a year) but irrigation and the deep, rich soils of the once-larger Mimbres River has made viticulture possible since the late 19th Century. Mimbres Valley is the largest of the three AVAs and boasts the largest vineyard too; Lordsburg Vineyard with more than 200 acres planted to Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Mourvedre. The next largest vineyard is owned by Paolo D’Andrea, who arrived in New Mexico in the early ‘80s to help plant the original Gruet Winery near Truth or Consequences. Luna Rossa Winery has a spectacular array of Italian vinifera (Ribolla Gialla, Aglianico, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Barbara, Sangiovese, Refosco, Montepulciano and Negro Amaro). Try their new sparkling wine made in the Prosecco style from the Ribolla Gialla grape. Also well known is La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery, a 600 acre ranch which has been in the Gurule family since 1906. See this vineyard by appointment only. The best place to overnight is Silver City with historic hotels like the Murray Hotel and the Palace Hotel. Try the farm-to-fork restaurant, the Revel. The Silver City Wine Festival takes place mid-July. Check it out at www.nmwine.com. Middle Rio Grande Valley AVA follows the course and valley of the Rio Grande River and covers nearly 280,000 acres around Santa Ana Pueblo southwest of Santa Fe, down and around Albuquerque. Red wines are made from Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah while white wine is made from Viognier, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer. Grapes have been grown here since the arrival of Spanish missionaries in 17th Century, predating California. Prohibition stalled the business, but by 1970 things were up and running again. The altitude of the vineyards at 4500 ft. to 6500 ft. allows for a cooling that keeps the acidity in the fruit and the flavors fresh. Another bonus of the area is the dry desert climate which largely eliminates the risk of fungal vine diseases such as powdery mildew. Vineyards of note are Casa Rondena, Jamarillo, and Milagro Vineyards (in nearby Corrales). This AVA is also home of the famous house of Gruet. The firm began when French wine maker Gilbert Gruet was visiting Southwestern USA and he heard about the 17th Century vineyards of New Mexico. Learning that grapes were once again growing in the old mining community of Engle, near Truth of Consequences, he paid the region a visit. The rest, as they say, is history. Gruet makes sparkling wine in the Methode
Champenoise style from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Consider Corrales, about 14 miles north of downtown Albuquerque and 2 miles west of I-25 as your base. Farm-to-table restaurant Casa Vieja will not disappoint. The Chocolate Turtle B&B has lots of charm. Mesilla Valley AVA runs on either side of the Rio Grande from Radium Springs across the Texas border to El Paso. Las Cruses is the center point. This is a dry, hot region and their wine is rarely seen outside New Mexico. The most important red grapes grown here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Sangoivese, Tempranillo, and Syrah. White grapes are Muscat Blanca and Riesling. The AVA was established in 1985. Its highest altitude is 4300 ft. with a significant diurnal swing (difference in temperature between the day and the night). This allows for the grapes to grow in what otherwise would be a hostile environment. The Mesilla Valley gets only 10 inches of rain a year, most of which falls in the eastern, higher portion on the slopes of the Franklin Mountains. Additionally, breezes funneled along the Rio Grande help to temper the extreme climate. The soil is free-draining sand, clay, and loam. Check out the Mesilla Valley Wine Trail in Las Cruces. It features 10 local wineries, including the well known St. Clair Winery and La Viña Winery. Also visit Amaro Winery and Heart of the Desert Winery. Sign up for a personal tour at the D.H. Lescombes Winery & Bistro in Las Cruces. The tour can last several hours and includes a visit to the vineyard, the St. Clair Winery in Deming (Mimbres Valley AVA), and a tasting back in Las Cruces. For those who prefer beer, visit the NM Vintage Wines, Beers + Cigar store located in an 1850’s vintage building and ranked the #1 Wine Bar in the State. It serves tapas (small plates) to go along with your wine or beer tasting. Salud!

Proposed Recycling and Waste Transfer Station Corte Bella Government Affairs Committee
Republic Services, a national waste management company, has submitted a pre-application to Maricopa Country requesting that a 10-acre parcel of the West Wing Industrial Park be rezoned from I-2 (light industrial use) to I-3 (heavy industrial use) for the purpose of building and operating a recycling and waste transfer station (WTS) on that property. The West Wing Industrial Park is located west of the intersection of N. El Mirage Rd. and SR-303, next to a power sub-station. Concerned Corte Bella homeowners have started a petition to block this project. Some concerns expressed in the petition include: • Increased heavy transport vehicle traffic (76/day according to Republic Service estimates), • Increased vehicle noise & diesel fuel emissions, • Possible environmental/health issues (litter, odor, pests, rodents, scavengers), • Possible fire risk (from neighboring power sub-station), • Potential for other heavy industrial companies to request permits at this location. We have studied Republic Service’s proposal and we do not see an upside to it for Corte Bella. For these and general health/ safety/quality of life issues, we request that Republic Services

Benevilla Surprise Community Gardens Gayle Grogan Did you know that Surprise, Arizona has a secret? Yes, Surprise has a community garden where you can grow your own organic veggies. All the plant beds are raised, so you don’t have to bend over (like we did when we were younger). You can rent a spot for the year and grow to your heart’s content. The plots are $40 for a small plot (4 ft. by 7 ft.) and $100 for a large plot (6 ft. by 20 ft.). The garden is surrounded by a fence so no two- or four-legged animals can get in and take what they would like. The garden location is right beside Rio Salado Community College on Greasewood Street and behind the Benevilla campus. The garden’s address is 1652 N Greasewood St, Surprise. This community garden opened in 2012 and is a partnership between the City of Surprise, Rio Salado College, and Benevilla. Benevillais a nonprofit organization offering a variety of services to including an adult daycare, a preschool and child care center. If you have any questions about the community garden, give me a call at 520-450-3030. An example of raised bed gardening at the Surprise Community garden.

For this to happen, we need a director and a keyboard accompanist. Monday evening practices are held from late September until mid-December, and again from late January through March. Performances include the Anacapa Christmas Tree Lighting, the San Ramon Walk-About Night, and the Corte Bella Holiday SingAlong. If you would like to be a part of this enthusiastic group as a director, accompanist or as a singer, please contact Hilda Furkert (hilda.furkert@gmail.com or 623 266-2733). Corte Bella’s Chorus performs at the annual Sam Ramon Christmas Walk About Night.
Don’t Wait for Your Letter Ask Agnes At one time or another, nearly every household gets a letter with some HOA guideline infraction. It’s for our own good! Sure, it seems “picky”. Maybe this even makes the recipient a little rebellious. How is this good? When you want to sell your house, you will get that reward! As home prices are rising right now, little things may pay off. I’m going to give you some tips on some of the common violations I’ve seen lately. Firstly, your coach lights may need painting. They were black to start. Years of monsoon silt has turned them dusty tan. Try washing them with a solution of Dawn liquid soap and water. You don’t need much detergent. Sometimes, under that dirt, they are still black. Yay! Sometimes they are not, but at least the washing has prepared them for painting. I’ve done spray and also the brush painting. Both work well. You’ll need a step ladder to prevent painting the stucco. Cover the bulbs, remove the glass, and tape everything you don’t want painted. Secondly, I’m observing air conditioning grills that are rusty or discolored. This is really easy to fix. Buy a spray can of Rustoleum in gray. I’ve found that to be the closest match to the air conditioning unit body. Just brush off the crumbly, rusted paint. Use a steel brush, if you can just borrow one. Once the grill is free from debris, spray away. Spray from all angles. Your air conditioning unit will look like new. Last year, our HVAC technician thought we had gotten a new unit!

Kay Steik: Fighter, Survivor & Shining Star in Corte Bella Kay and Ron Steik first set eyes on Corte Bella during a visit to friends living in Sun City Grand. A week later, they returned and bought their forever home and relocated to Corte Bella. Kay has been a “mover and a shaker” and a driving force on the social scene in Corte Bella since her arrival in 2007. Even as the moving boxes were being cleared out of the garage, Kay got involved in community life in a big way, often taking on leadership roles in various groups and clubs. That is remarkable in itself. What is truly noteworthy, however, is what she has done behind the scenes, both on a personal and public level. Kay Wilson was born in Joliet, Illinois, where she lived, attended school, and remained until she was 20 years old. She briefly attended junior college before deciding she preferred to get to work. She was a secretary at a steel mill where her father also was employed. She then married and moved to Seattle, Washington. Her son was born there, and she resided in that city for more than 40 years. Kay found her niche in the business world in Seattle and made her mark as an advertising associate for a number of radio and media/print organizations. She loved her work and established an impressive reputation during her 33-year career, retiring in 2006. Kay met Ron on a blind date, after her first marriage ended. He turned out to be her “Mr. Right”, and they married in 1989. They’re still going strong 32 years later. Ron was involved in management at an upholstery business for over 30 years. He retired in 2009. As alluded to earlier, Kay hit the ground running in Corte Bella. She quickly joined and then became the President of the Women’s 9-Hole Golf Club. And when she learned that the activities and events director needed a chorus to perform at holiday functions, she found singers, a director, and a pianist which developed into the Corte Bella Chorus – all within the confines of her new living room. Kay is rightfully proud of the fact that this group still performs today. Kay has had a lifelong interest in drama and acting. She once told Ron that she would like acting lessons for a birthday gift. Although he didn’t take her seriously, Kay promptly enrolled in a college acting class. She found her happy place there, performing in many stage plays. She jokes that her first role was that of the crazy aunt in Lanford Wilson’s “The 5th of July” at the Next Step Theater Group. Her love of character acting led Kay, along with three kindred Corte Bella residents, to form “The Corte
Bella Players.” This group would go on to offer five dinner theater productions, much to the delight of all who attended them. As a young mother and a professional, Kay had little time to volunteer, but she always supported organizations that worked with the needy. After retiring and settling down in Corte Bella, she began looking for a way to help people in need. And then one day in 2009, while on a day trip with four friends to Tempe, Kay asked her friends if they might be interested in starting up a charity support group. All four said yes and Smiling Out Loud (SOuL) was born. Kay identified a worthy organization to concentrate on, and SOuL began to work with Eve’s Place. Kay made sure that SOuL’s help would directly benefit those who needed help and not go to any administrative expenses. Twelve years later, SOuL is a viable and important group here in Corte Bella and is working with a number of worthy organizations throughout the valley. SOuL provides wonderful fund-raising activities that are enjoyed by all of Corte Bella. Kay says that knowing that SOuL is such an effective force for good in the West Valley is a gigantic sense of accomplishment for her. Kay is pleased that her husband is so proud of this too. Kay quietly states she still has other ideas that she’d like to explore. She’s not done yet. Kay’s resolve and faith were put to the test beginning in 2016 when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma – a blood cancer. She underwent chemotherapy, but this was complicated by a severe infection that resulted in surgery. At one point her body weight had dropped to a dangerously low 82 pounds. In May 2017, she underwent a successful full body stem cell transplant. And today her weight is back to a respectable 122 pounds, she has monthly medical screenings, and she is in full remission. Kay says that her “Prince” (husband Ron), her friends and her medical team brought her through her “walk in the storm.” All the prayers offered up for her and all the expressions of love made the difference. She mounted all the get well cards on her dining room wall. Kay’s words of wisdom for anyone facing dire medical problems is to be your own advocate and to pay attention. She says it’s important to “get up every day, keep moving, let people help you, and talk about what you’re feeling.” She advocates allowing yourself to depend on your support system. Kay’s personal motto is “always be grateful, be honest, and help others when you can.” The things that make her happy are her husband, Ron, her son and daughter-in-law, her home, her friends, and her two cats. Kay is a perfect example of how a strong-willed woman can face and overcome life-threatening adversity. Kay has definitely earned a place in Corte Bella history, but she isn’t finished – not by a long shot. You go, Kay! We can’t wait to see what’s next.

What’s Happening in Corte Bella For Pam Lawrence (compiled by Linda Wright)
Anacapa’s Mother’s Day Brunch TAD Concert Voyager, A Tribute to Journey April 26
Outside on the Anacapa patio, under chilly April evening skies, the residents of Corte Bella enjoyed an amazing show that paid tribute to the vocals and instrumental genius of the band Journey. It was top-notch entertainment and all right here inside our gates.
Jason Love Comedy Show May 7
Corte Bella residents welcomed back the comedy of Jason Love and his two entertaining LA “friends” on the Anacapa patio for a night filled with laughter. Everyone in attendance was so glad to have these shows return!
May 9
The restaurant and the outside patio of the Anacapa was beautifully decorated for this special day for mothers. A delicious a la carte menu provided wonderful selections for all the many residents in attendance. This event is always well-attended and such a wonderful Spring occasion.
Wine and Dine Dinner May 12 and May 13
The return of this special evening activity was welcomed by the many Corte Bella residents who’ve been waiting patiently all these many months. Wines of Italy were featured and paired to a four-course meal prepared and presented by Anacapa’s Executive Chef Dan Haywood. At these two dinners, the memory of Mary Ann Bradley was honored with toasts and tributes to a very treasured friend.

First Friday with Pam Friday, June 4
TAD concert December ‘63 Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons
A standing room only crowd of residents attended Lifestyle Manager Pam Lawrence’s First Friday with Pam on June 4th for what was once again an in-person event, the first in over 14 months. The attendees enjoyed meeting new residents, learning about upcoming events, and listening to a farewell address from outgoing General Manager, Michael Arrington.
May 16 and May 17
Another set of outside-on-the-patio concerts were held with Corte Bella folks enjoying music that had them dancing in the breezeway and on the grass. It was a night full of musical memories. Everyone loved this experience.
The Ultimate Chicago A TAD Management Concert Monday, June 14
Corte Bella residents don’t pay much attention to the weather when they have an opportunity to listen to live music from TAD Management. The band that paid tribute to Chicago was out-ofthis world good. The vocals were on point and the musicians were top notch. For almost two solid hours, the residents clapped, sang along and remembered this music from another era. It was a perfect musical night, and the fact that it was hot out really didn’t matter much at all. The music was cool and that’s all that really mattered.
What’s Happening in Corte Bella Cooking with Chef Dan Friday, June 18
Cooking with Chef Dan May 18 and May 19
Executive Chef Dan Haywood brought back his popular cooking demonstration classes with an outdoor summer grilling menu presented over two days. His technique, along with his sense of humor while presenting, provided smiles and satisfied appetites to those who attended the classes.
Anacapa’s Executive Chef Dan Haywood thrilled the cooking demonstration attendees with beautifully created dishes at this event. The Grilled Vegetable Tower with Balsamic was platelicking good. The main course of Chicken and Mushrooms Crepes was delicious. The finale of the Warm Vanilla Butter Cake with Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream just about put everyone into a food coma. What a fabulous way to spend an Arizona summer afternoon.

HEALTH & FITNESS
Corte Bella Pickleball Club News Mary Blome We are 227 members strong. It’s sad to see so many members gone back to cooler climates but we still have quite a few people playing. Forty-Five members gathered at the Anacapa for a Happy Hour and to watch the Pickleball Nationals (see photos). It was very nice to be able to gather again for a social event. We are hoping to be able to hold more such events in the fall.
Meet Gary Williams, our Pickleball Club Vice President: I retired from the construction business in 2009 after a very happy career as a carpenter in Chicago. I had always planned to leave the Chicago weather behind, and as I had an uncle in Sun Lakes in Chandler, I decided to move to Arizona. Golf was my passion in those years. I spent the first year playing as many Valley courses as I could. The second year, I joined the Oakwood/Ironwood Golf Club. I played so much that I was benched with a pulled oblique muscle. During recovery, I remembered seeing many people playing pickleball and thought “that looks like fun.” Luckily, my neighbor took me out, and taught me how to play, and that was the start of my long love affair with pickleball. Oakwood/Ironwood in Sun Lakes (where I lived) had one PB court at that time, so a few of us formed a PB Club. We were so successful in growing our numbers that I decided to help grow the game in Sun Lakes and Chandler by becoming the USAPA ambassador for the area. I sold ZZT paddles and pickleballs at cost to new players and also gave lessons.
I promoted PB to the city of Chandler and helped our Club at Oakwood grow to over 230 members. However, as PB popularity grew, so did resentment from other sports. After a number of very negative experiences dealing with these issues, I decided it was time to move on to a more inclusive community. So, in 2015, after looking at many communities, I decided to move to PebbleCreek. I enjoyed being a small fish in a Club of 1500 members and 20 pickleball courts. My commitment to PB and my love of the game led to many great friendships in that PB Club. In 2018, I met my partner who lives here in Corte Bella. Alison has a lot of friends here who have been extremely welcoming to me, and I have grown to love Corte Bella. So much so that I have decided to sell my home in PebbleCreek and start a new life here with Alison. I was immediately welcomed by the Corte Bella PB players and look forward to becoming an integral member of the Club Besides pickle ball, I also enjoy tinkering with my AMG43 and Mustang, time on our boat the “LUCKY US”, entertaining and travel with trips planned to Colorado, California, and the Mediterranean this year. I see so much potential for our great Corte Bella community and would like to help more as time goes on. I appreciate all the people here that have been so welcoming to me.

Corte Bella Tennis Club News Donna Norton Tennis club members started celebrating immunization against COVID-19 as soon as the first person was vaccinated. During weekly scheduled play, the number of fully vaccinated players grew to a point that it made sense for us to host our first tournament in 15 months. The date selected: May Day (May 1st), in ancient days the start of summer! We’ve missed our Canadian players throughout this year and those who didn’t want to play until they felt much safer. Despite the 78-foot court, they knew there were times when people were closer.
The winners were announced at the Potluck event hosted by Linda and Mark Sivakoff that evening. As always, the food was spectacular and all had a good time. Mark was our Master of Ceremonies and he did a great job of congratulating the winners. Winners: •
Doug Kitts won the overall men’s division, with Reno Peterson following up in second place.
•
Ming Fu won the women’s division, with Sarah Smith in second place.
All five courts participated in a round-robin event based on the results of team scores. Partners would switch, and then a new game would be played.
Corte Bella Golf Club News Tyson Siegler, Membership Director Happy Independence Day! It might be over 100 degrees outside, but its always cool in the Golf Club Grill. You can sample our new menu items featuring the flatbread of the month. For the months of July and August, the Golf Club would like to offer residents of Corte Bella a $39 rate for golf anytime after 9:00 AM. This offer includes cart and range balls. Stay hydrated and lathered up with sunscreen, and we’ll see you at the Golf Club for some sizzling summer golf.
