CHANGES TO SOUTHWATER LIFE
I
would like to make you aware of some changes we are instigating to Southwater Life to bring it in line with our other magazines in West Sussex. As of this issue, Southwater Life is being published on a bi-monthly basis and the circulation increased from 4,000 to over 11,000 plus the name changed to Southwater Pages. This will enable us to attract more advertisers and therefore be able to provide you, the reader, with more editorial and content for your enjoyment. As part of this change we are also adding another magazine to our portfolio which will be distributed in Billingshurst and the surrounding areas, also on a bi-monthly basis. This means we now have eight bimonthly magazines (see below) delivering to 100,000 homes across West Sussex with guaranteed Royal Mail Door-to-Door Distribution.
Southwater Pages will now be delivered to Southwater, Christ’s Hospital, Mannings Heath, Monk’s Gate, Lower Beeding, Crabtree, Nuthurst, Maplehurst, Copsale, Coolham, Shipley, Dial Post, West Grinstead, Partridge Green and Cowfold. Plus the new Billingshurst Pages will be delivered to Billingshurst, Brooks Green, Barns Green, Itchingfield, Slinfold, The Haven, Five Oaks, Coneyhurst, Adversane, Wisborough Green, Strood Green, Kirdford, Loxwood, Ifold, Plaistow and Balls Cross. We hope to continue to serve the communities of Southwater and provide a useful source of local information that everyone is welcome to contribute to. Stay safe and well. The town used the very same methods that they had used to raise funds to fight the war to fight unemployment. The eventful year of 1921 also saw two events that bookended the remembrance of the war. In January 1921 there was a great sale of military hardware from Roffey Camp, as illustrated in the attached poster. Then, on 11 November 1921, the town held the unveiling of the War Memorial. The monument had split the town over the decision whether to list the names of the fallen. It was unveiled with full military reference and captured on film that was later shown at a local cinema. However, as shown in the third poster, the town were not just concerned about commemorating the Great War. They were also concerned about others in distress, including those affected by the Russian Famine, one of the great disasters caused by natural causes but exacerbated by inept government. We can be confident that the support was ongoing as, a year later, the town would open a famine kitchen in Russia. The sense of the community and doing things for those less fortunate showed itself again on 12 December when a Whist Drive, arranged by the great and good of the District including Scawen Blunt, was held to raise money for Please mention SOUTHWATER Pages when responding to adverts

lans for a new retail park in Horsham, featuring a discount food store, a DIY shop and garden centre, a drive through take-away restaurant, and a coffee shop, have been put forward by West Sussex County Council. The new shopping centre is proposed on the site of the former Broadbridge Heath highways depot which was declared surplus to requirements in 2018. The County Council is proposing to invest £15.47m from its capital programme to regenerate the site and construct the retail units. A new roundabout is also proposed to provide access to the site. Jeremy Hunt, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “This is an

exciting scheme which will not only make use of underutilised County Council land, but will also support economic recovery and regeneration as part of our Economy Reset Plan. “Market research has indicated that the site is an ideal location for a retail park. As well as benefiting the community, the scheme will also provide around 135 new jobs as well as generate a significant revenue return on investment for the County Council for many years to come.” Four retailers have already been identified and have confirmed their intention to commit to long-term leases on the site. It’s hoped the retail park could be up and running by 2023/24, subject to planning permissions.

CENSUS 2021 ON SUNDAY 21 MARCH

he census is for everyone. It’s a unique national survey that happens every 10 years and gives a snapshot of all the people in England and Wales. It can work out what the country's needs are and help inform decisions about services, like healthcare. Predicting future healthcare needs is never easy, which is why it’s vital for everyone to complete a Census 2021 form. Public health organisations use this information to apply for funding and planning. You will receive an initial census postcard delivered to your door late February, letting you know about the upcoming Census. This will be followed by the actual Census Pack sent to you from early March which will include full details on how to complete your Census survey either online or on a paper copy. Census Day itself is on 21

suitable to be given with food, check with your vet beforehand • Make sure your cat is hungry, offer a little food with the medication • Use something that your cat likes as a treat such as a small amount of cheese/meat/fish (check with your veterinary surgeon that these treats are suitable with your cats condition) • Ensure that the tablet has been eaten Administer by hand • This task is made easier if you have a second person to restrain • Place your cat onto a non slippery surface positioned in front of you facing away • Gently hold around the shoulders to prevent your cat from running off, this will also help to keep legs, paws and claws tucked away • You could use a towel to wrap around your cat to help keep legs secured • Hold the tablet between your thumb and forefinger, place your other hand over the top of your cats head ( this feels less threatening to a cat than approaching from the front) and tilt the head gently backwards • Use your middle finger to pull the bottom jaw open
