Our Lady of the Rocks
FULFILLING A CENTURIES OLD PROMISE
In the stunning, coastal town of Perast, once a year on the 22nd of July, one of the most unique of Boka Bay’s many traditional celebrations takes place - Fašinada. A procession of boats, strung together and decorated with poplar branches, leaves the town and - laden with rocks - gently winds it’s way toward Gospa od Škrpjela - Our Lady of the Rocks Island. Carrying only the local priests and the descendants of the most influential of Perasts citizens and ancient seafarers, the procession makes it’s way to fulfil an unwritten promise made centuries ago by the sailors and fisherman that lived along the shores of Boka Bay. 04

MONTENEGRO GUIDE
THE NAME ‘FAŠINADA’ COMES FROM THE ITALIAN WORD ‘FASCIA’ - MEANING BINDING To understand the significance of this charming cultural tradition, we must travel back to the 15th Century, where it is said that two local fisherman - The Martešić brothers - discovered an icon of the Virgin and Christ on a rocky crag, jutting upwards from the sea near St Georges Island. Taking this as a sign of Gods favour the local fishermen began to drop large rocks at the site. They were soon joined by others in the town, who would sail out and sink rocks and even the wrecks of old boats, forming the island that stands there today and the foundations for the church that would be built as a sign of the gratitude of the local residents. Over the centuries, before venturing out on a long voyage, local seafarers would sail to the island and drop rocks into the sea, fortifying and strengthening the foundations of the church that was built in it’s place towards the end of the 15th Century, and bringing good luck and fortune to the sailors themselves. It is thought that this custom was the inspiration for the Fašinada tradition seen today.
06
L uš tic a B ay LIF E
CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE ROCKS The church that now stands on the island was first built in the mid 1600’s and steadily grew over the next century to include a large circular bell tower, many beautiful murals and a stunning marble altar, above which hangs an image of the Virgin Mary and Christ, as a reminder of the icon that lead to the conception of the island and church. The church is of particular importance, in part due to the many artefacts that can be found within. Inside there are 68 paintings by the artist Tripo Kokolja one of the most famous and important 17th century Baroque artists - and a resident of Perast. The church is now one of the most popular attractions in Montenegro and draws visitors from all over the world. Guided tours are offered through both the museum and the church. The church itself is filled with almost 3,000 silver votives - offerings made to protect sailors before a long voyage and by the sick, in the hopes that their prayers would be answered and their illness cured.
One of the most impressive works on show is an incredible embroidered tapestry by Jacinta Kunić - an artist from Perast - who, while waiting for the safe return of her seafaring husband, created the tapestry from golden and silver thread. Considered to be one of the most beautiful pieces of needlework in all of Montenegro this incredible tapestry has become the stuff of legend. It is said that it took her over 25 years to finish, while she waited for her lost sailor to return and contains strands of her own hair, intertwined with the silver and gold thread. By the time it was finished Jacinta had completely lost her vision!
07
The Fašinada Regatta - KEEPING THE SEAFARING TRADITION ALIVE!
Today, if you want to see the Fašinada celebrations then you must travel to the town of Perast on the 22nd of July. As part of the festivities, for many years now, an international sailing regatta has been held in the Bay, as a nod to the immutable Perast traditions of sailing and seafaring, and another example of the unshakeable connection between the people of Boka and the sea! The regatta brings together teams of sailors from Montenegro, Europe and many other parts of the world to compete for the Fašinada Cup and prove their prowess on the sea! The 17th Fašinada cup will take place on 21st & 22nd of July, 2022 in the Bay of Kotor - sailing on the first day from Perast to Tivat and back to Perast on day 2. Around 200 competitors are expected to take part!

They all originated from military marches because the march was needed for an army parade, line-ups and for military events: parade step, march step, anthem, and all the related melodies.

RADAN’S TOP DIVING DESTINATIONS! TWIN CAVES This beginner friendly dive offers you the unique opportunity to experience both a salt and fresh water dive all at once, due to the presence of fresh water springs in both caves! In this 40-minute dive, you will dive to a maximum depth of 14 metres, and with visibility ranging from 10-30 metres, you’ll get an incredible view of the magical underwater world that exists below the surface! As you explore the first cavern, you will have the opportunity to surface into a huge air pocket within the cave itself! The fact you are able to surface any time you want, makes this one of the safest and most beginner friendly dives in Montenegro! To dive the twin caves, you must at least have your OWD certification.
POSEIDON CAVE The second site on the list is another of Montenegro’s incredible cave diving spots! The Poseidon cave will take you through a series of caverns and complex of inter-connected tunnels, filled with fascinating underwater flora and fauna! Like the Twin Caves, the duration of this dive is roughly 40 minutes. However, when diving the Poseidon Cave system you will reach a maximum depth of 40 metres! To dive the Poseidon Cave, you must at least have your OWD certification.
SHIPWRECKED PATROL BOAT The final dive, and one of the most fascinating dives in Europe, is the diving trip that takes you to the sandy sea floor, where you will encounter a 40-metre, 1952 Yugoslavian patrol boat, purposefully sunk in the 1980’s as part of the training for the Navy. While it is possible to enter the wreck, it is only available to those who hold a Wreck Speciality Certification. ALL TOURS CAN BE PURCHASED BY VISITING prodivingmontenegro.com

It has preserved the typical Mediterranean architecture; houses are surrounded by olives and figs, almonds and horns, the forests of centennial cypresses and coastal pines are beautiful sights and a blissful oasis during a summer heatwave, but also when we take a stroll during the colder months on a natural carpet made of needles and mosses whose scent awakens all senses. It was not by chance that the ancient people of Greece visited the coves of Luštica, Saracens conquered, the Venetians alleged... captains’ houses and palaces were crammed by the sea, piers built, and songs were sung about magical pebbles, divine light beaming on the horizon from the sun’s reflection.

Whether you are diving through crystalclear water in Pecka Cove, or nonchalantly sipping a cocktail on a cosy sunbed of The Chedi Beach, tasting cold-pressed olive oil, oil cheese and prosciutto of intense flavours, relaxing your senses with Maginja brandy created from the fruits of the Mediterranean bush that dominates the area, you will know that you have experienced exactly what many philosophers, including Aristotle, Schiller, Shakespeare and Umberto Eco have discussed for centuries – Real Beauty. OUR COMMUNITY
4. Not many people embark on creating a new town. Does this require a certain degree of bravery to venture somewhere business-wise where very few go? No, it’s not bravery. Really, it’s much more about patience. I have the patience and the persistence to start and take a lot of time until it really becomes what I was dreaming of when I first saw it, but you get used to it, and with time, you know, that even obstacles on the way are just temporary and it’s always worked. So why not? 5. What would you say to your younger self getting into such unknown waters? The best statement I always like to say is that I was very fortunate when I was young, I didn’t know or understand how much of a journey this would be and how long it will take, but when I had started after five, six years, I realized where it was heading this journey, and it was too late to stop. But had I known what I know today when I started the very first time, probably, I wouldn’t have had the bravery or the courage to do it. But now that I’ve done it a few times it doesn’t really take bravery. It just takes patience and persistence. 6. So, ignorance is bliss in a way sometimes? It was! For sure. You know the critical thing about this type of project is the critical mass. You can do the best restaurant if there are only two clients, it won’t work. So the word critical mass has been my biggest lesson in this experience, and it took me, as I said, seven, eight years to understand what it means to have critical mass. I mean, in El Gouna, when I started, I thought that if I do 60 nice villas and a hotel and the marina that the project is done. It took 16 hotels and 16 years to really be able to say that. To say it’s done, because by then, we had enough people living there, permanently, and we had enough facilities, enough infrastructure that it was also paying for itself, and we have so many people living there.
“There will be a town called Luštica in a few years, and I think we’re heading there now.”

7. How do you feel about Montenegro, and can we expect to see more of you in the future? Oh, yes. Yes, for sure. Montenegro is a nice place, and the people are nice, and I feel at home. So, there’s always this feeling that I want to go back to this place. And now with Mamula opening soon, it will also be a very interesting place to see when it has people and when it starts living, so I’m sure you’ll see a lot more of me. 8. You have recently ‘passed on the torch’ to your son – how does the prospect of retirement look? I never said I was retiring (chuckling). All I said is I’m giving up the role and giving up the shares as well to my son because it’s time to pass on the existing projects. He is probably more efficient, and he works more than I do.

That’s more valuable for the community building than selling a villa for a couple of millions for someone that just comes occasionally. And even that person, when he comes, he wants to see the local community, and that’s why really it is much more about that than just trying to be a nice guy and take care of the local people. It’s much more because I need them to be happy because they are the ones that are going to create the sense of community and later the sense of the town. There are a lot of people living near Luštica, and I want those people to feel that this is their town, not a place for people who buy second homes and come sometimes. Much more important to have people live in your town than people buy in your town. 12. CREATING
Meaningful Connections As The Chedi Luštica Bay General Manager, Jan Albers has the responsibility of leading his team to success and creating memorable guest experiences. According to Jan, this involves building meaningful connections, continually improving the offer, and nurturing exceptional teamwork. Luštica Bay Magazine caught up with the GM to find out more on how he makes this happen. Jan Albers is a seasoned hotelier who has worked in diverse locations that include Croatia, the UAE, Malta, Germany, Switzerland and now Montenegro. Having gained experience in many different destinations, one thing remains constant - his commitment to delivering great customer experiences. As an exceptional hospitality leader, he firmly believes that effective and cohesive human resources and teamwork play a key role in ensuring success. 1. What is the philosophy of this hotel? Our mission is to inspire meaningful connections between guests, clients and partners alike. The Chedi Luštica Bay was born out of a desire to celebrate an active, healthy lifestyle: to experience the beauty that our peninsula’s nature has to offer, to build community, to engage with locals and fellow travelers, to work and enjoy new adventures. 2. The Chedi Luštica Bay is part of the highly regarded luxury brand of The Chedi, how would you describe The Chedi as a brand? The core of The Chedi brand is the slogan “Where One Finds Peace”. The word ‘Chedi’ typically refers to a place of meditation and has been associated with settings where one finds peace. In the same way, The Chedi hotels are created as tranquil environments so that travelers, on their journeys, may rediscover the joys of stillness and be soothed by the calmness in a backdrop of beauty and comfort. At Orascom Hotels Management (OHM), we have created 3 landmark hotels with this brand within the setting of our bespoke destinations. That only works with a spotlight on service quality, creating loyalty to our brands but also and moreover to our destinations. With more than 30 hotels and 8.000 rooms in operation, we have overall more than 5.000 team members looking after our guest journey. 3. experiences.
If you ask friends and colleagues who appreciate the finer things in life ‘what defines a luxury hotel, you will likely get a range of responses. Why is that? Particularly in recent years everyone has potentially reviewed their very own focus areas, privately and in business. For some, luxury is associated with expensive items, from a watch to a car, or in our case as a hotel, from architecture, to interior design to food & beverage offerings. For us at The Chedi it also means nature, space, fresh air and outdoor activities. Essentially luxury means different things to different people, it can be a small thing such as creating a meaningful experience or showing that you care. But be it large or small, it should create an emotional
is: have we as an industry also analyzed the situation appropriately and asked why finding and retaining talent has become a bigger challenge year by year? Competitive compensation is only one thing, more important are training & development, a work/life balance and being able to offer year-around employment, both at Luštica Bay and at our other remarkable destinations. In addition, the team ethos has a huge impact on employee satisfaction. Showing very low turnover in our team, speaks for our team. I am humbled to be part of it.
I strongly believe that successful and modern leadership today is influence, not authority. People doing good work feel good and people doing exceptional work feel exceptional. When that happens, and it happens all the time, let´s also talk about it. Sharing experiences and building an environment where mistakes are seen as an opportunity to learn are ingredients for a hotel to ensure continuous growth of every single team member. Maya Angelou, an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist once said: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what

when you are travelling. The food we serve represents an array of delicacies which is based on the concept of Mediterranean cuisine spiked up by the freshness of herbs from our garden. The fusion of traditional flair, contemporary culinary technologies, local produce and a holistic approach is what stands out when it comes to our food & beverage restaurants. The menus represent a blend of Montenegrin traditional gastronomy, taste and aroma of the surroundings with an Asian twist that The Chedi brand represents. 8. The international team at The Chedi Hotel play a key role in the property’s success. Can you share some insights here? Whilst we offer legendary Montenegrin hospitality with the vast majority of our team members being Montenegrin, we effectively have colleagues from fifteen countries. By being diversified we have added a beautiful international flavor to our local excellence. This results into a multi-lingual, global expertise and cultural influence that benefits everyone in an ever-expanding learning environment.
33
10. Can you share some of the amazing things that your concierge is able to arrange in terms of authentic local experiences? The trend is that modern travellers want to immerse themselves in the local culture more than ever. Not long ago you’d go to the Mediterranean, enjoy the beaches and sun, and that was it – but what’s the difference between Croatia, Italy, Greece and Montenegro if you don’t have access to the local community? Now, the more local flavor you can add, the better for the traveler. Visiting a local olive farm on Luštica for example, e-biking through local villages and having a refreshing drink in places off the beaten track, spending a day in a hidden bay - almost alone in peak season - those are experiences money cannot buy. But we can help to unlock them. Above all I also think modern travellers expect hotels and resorts to support their communities and be well connected with them. Among many of our initiatives to support our local community, we have recently established our “The Giving Bag” initiative. You can picture that as a laundry bag, the only difference is that you do not get it back - it contains valuables which you don’t personally need anymore, and we donate them to the Red Cross Montenegro, to give a new meaning to those products for people in need in our locality.

We make it a top priority to listen to our guests - and to act accordingly. We have also adopted the general philosophy of remembering that we are in the entertainment business and that means we can take a lot of the formality away. You can pay people great respect. You can create what we think is a luxury experience for you, but you do not have to have airs, formality, or be snobby. It does not fit with Luštica Bay. Our guests want to come here to seek enjoyment and relax, and not to be remembered for the tie they left behind at home. I think it is incredibly important to have the social IQ to know when to engage or withdraw.

Searching For True Belonging As the Luštica Bay project continues to grow and develop, so too does the incredible community of residents who are choosing to relocate to the stunning Luštica Peninsula and make a new life for themselves in Luštica Bay! One such couple are Milena ZeVu and Boris Vujičić. Milena, conceptual artist and Boris, senior banking executive and consultant recently decided to purchase property in the Luštica Bay’s Marina Village, and plan to use it as their summer retreat! We caught up with them for a chat about their experiences so far and how they decided to establish themselves in Montenegro! 36

WELCOME TO THE WILD BEAUTY OF THE LUŠTICA PENINSULA! While the couple owned property in Montenegro for many years, we wanted to know what it was that brought the pair to purchase property in Luštica Bay - what was it that drew them to this secluded corner of the bay and what makes it such a special place to live and invest in. The couple explained to us that, despite having already looked at properties in some of the countries more well-known destinations, the thing that really drew them to Luštica Bay was the controlled and phased development that simply doesn’t exist in other parts of the country! They told us, “We had a property in Montenegro for twenty years but in many places, such as in Petrovac, wild construction has resulted in these charming towns loosing architectural order and visual balance, to say the least. This cannot happen in Luštica Bay as it is a controlled development. It has retained the “Wild beauty” while providing structure and rich amenities. Over the past 30 years, the couple have lived and worked in seven different countries and as such have found it difficult to articulate where it is that they really ‘belong.’ It is this elusive sense of belonging that ultimately led them to choose Luštica Bay as their summer base, telling us that “Even though we would have spent a number of years living in different cities, you never really feel you belong somewhere. So, the notion of ‘belonging’ to a place or a community is very important to us. Since this is a new community, just being formed, one has a rare opportunity of belonging to a new place, a place one can call their ‘own’. A place you can come back to!”

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ART We moved on to speak with Milena alone, who told us about her plans for creating a ‘living art space’ in their apartment. She explained to us that she had always wanted create, what she described as, an art-apartment, in which a person could actually feel as though they were part of the art - an idea that corresponds perfectly with her ArtWalks concept, where a person, both physically and metaphorically, becomes part an element of the art piece. Milena finished our interview by telling us, “I am really grateful that they have recognized and supported an independent artist such as myself, and I hope that this concept will take Luštica Bay in an even more artistic direction!” While the natural beauty of the bay itself offers the perfect place to settle, it truly is the homeowners, the business owners, the artists and restaurateurs, the families and the staff that make up the Luštica community, who are what truly makes Luštica such a unique and special place to call home. As an experienced artist from Montenegro, with six albums and countless hits in his musical portfolio, his songs are known to carry a delicate tune that blends beautifully with the lyrics inspired by love. On his quest for new sources of inspiration, Sergej discovered our beautiful settlement, where he and his family found their peaceful sanctuary. Read on to hear about his impressions of Luštica and get an insight into his go-to activities when visiting this destination. 40
Why is Luštica Bay your favorite place on the coast? In 2019, I had the privilege to shoot the video for my song “Love” right here, at the premises of the beautiful Luštica Bay. Everyone who is familiar with my work, knows that this song holds a special place in my heart and I knew that finding the best setting to depict the beauty and subtlety of its music would be of the essence! Choosing Luštica Bay to be the scenery to tell this tale was indeed a perfect fit. Being surrounded with such scenic views and a breathtaking landscape, with the lines of that song echoing in the wind, created a bond with this place which I will always go back to. I am happy that a piece of this land, this jewel of the Montenegrin coast, is forever encapsulated in one of my videos. As an artist,

I love that whenever I find myself in Luštica, I feel as if I am at a movie set, secluded in a quiet, beautiful and authentic oasis that oozes with fantastic atmosphere, genuine charm and Mediterranean spirit. I am also pleased to hear that, over the course of years, Luštica has become a synonym for a perfect vacation getaway even way beyond its borders, shedding light on and promoting the most beautiful parts of Montenegro in the process.
Luštica. I am most fascinated by the connection made with the sea in every sense, which is why this place is not only a beautiful tourist destination, but really a place where you want to spend most of your free time. It is beautiful during all seasons and that gives it a special charm. Three favorite locations at Luštica Bay or activities? Gastronomic delicacies, beaches, favourite meal, activity… I would not be able to single out just three, and that is yet another advantage of this place. I am particularly looking forward to the golf courses, and already see myself as an experienced and enthusiastic golfer, choosing the golf club with which to hit the 18th hole. Of course, now with Centrale well on the way and all the content it provides, this settlement’s story comes full circle and this is why I am happy to call Luštica my peaceful haven. A place where my children will grow up in feeling at home, with their childhood filled with countless beautiful images which they will carry with them through life.
You enjoy every moment and every step with all your senses, starting from the smallest aesthetic details, to, say, great artistic, musical and other events that are organized in Luštica. From the first morning coffee by the sea, until late at night, every moment is special and made memorable. You recorded a video in Luštica Bay, which is the main reason why the backdrop of our destination was ideal for synergy with the song? The song itself was looking for a place that will tell its love story regardless of the verses and notes. From the first moment, Luštica captivates you with its simplicity and good energy and immediately makes you wish you were here, on the promenade, the beach..I could not be happier that we have been able to tell our love story in that very place and that for the last three years, the song “Love” has been the one to which married couples dance to during their first dance and make their first steps as a family. Clearly, there is some magic there!

KIKI’S Flavour Fusion from the Middle East to the Mediterranean! A recent addition to Luštica’s growing selection of eateries that line the Marina promenade, Kiki’s has already established itself as a favourite among many residents and visitors alike serving up a mouth-watering mix of classic Italian and Mediterranean flavours. The best way to begin your visit to Kiki’s is with their signature Kiki’s Garden Cocktail - an incredibly refreshing mix of aged rum, fresh wild berries, watermelon, and soda to be sipped with complimentary bruschetta. Follow your drink with a fresh take on an Italian classic, the Caprese Salad. At Kiki’s, the Caprese Di Burrata is the perfect starter! The burrata is inserted into an incredible, ripe Montenegrin tomato and then placed on a bed of mixed greens and basil leaves! Pair this dish with a glass of Gavi di Gavi, a crisp, floral wine whose aromatic qualities compliment the Italian flavors perfectly. While you’re there, why not try a guest favorite, Homemade Trofie with Mixed Herb Pesto and Stracciatella Cheese. The secret to this dish lies in the restaurant’s pesto. While the traditional one uses basil as its main ingredient, at Kiki’s it combines rosemary, fresh mint, and parsley - a recipe that came about on a day that the kitchen ran out of basil and had to improvise with what was on hand! Accompany this dish with chilled Chiaretto di Bardolino, a delicious Italian dry, crisp rose’ wine. The main dish and star of the show is Kiki’s incredible Seafood Skewers with Couscous Tabbouleh. Having opened her first branch decades ago in Egypt, Kiki on this dish carried on some of the cultural blending. Delicious Mediterranean octopus, prawns and tuna fish are grilled on skewers. FINESTRA An Expertly Curated Selection If it’s wine you’re after, then look no further than Finestra. Named Finestra - the Italian for window - in homage to the wives who would sit anxiously at the window, watching out to sea, waiting to toast the safe return of their sailor husbands with a glass of wine. This boutique wine store can be found on the promenade of the Marina Village and contains an expertly curated selection of more than 120 wines, ranging from crisp, clear whites to fragrant reds and everything in between! Finestra offers a truly remarkable selection of wines. However, if we were to pick a favourite, we would start with the Wine Trio Reserve 2010. A solid, fresh combination of three grapes - Merlot, Cabernet and Crow. With a ruby red colour and the aromas of red berries, and the velvety taste of overripe plums, this local wine is an excellent pairing to red meats or enjoyed on its own!

TERRACES, BALCONIES & SPACES
Tips on outdoor design by Marija Pantović & Oleksandra Nešković, Luštica Bay team The stunning natural surroundings of Luštica Bay and its spectacular coastal location offer the perfect opportunity to create beautiful gardens, balconies and terrace areas that complement your home and lifestyle. With the amazing backdrop of the Adriatic, get inspired and express your style by choosing plants and outdoor elements that create shady corners, places to relax and work, and your own special haven. Two styles that work well at Luštica Bay are the classis and timeless Mediterranean Style or a the chic and contemporary Modern. Read on to find out how you can make these styles come to life in your Luštica Bay home.
57
DECOR & STYLE
The Mediterranean Style
Embrace the Mediterranean vibe and create a wonderful haven with a curated collection of plants. The Mediterranean style is all about laid back outdoor living and lingering over an alfresco dinner with the people you love. A good start is to incorporate terracotta pots, which offer a rich earthy aesthetic. If you have a ground floor terrace, you can also consider using stone. This style is all about relaxed spaces that resonate with scents, textures and a splash of rustic style. Choose low-maintenance plants that will offer you that irresistible Mediterranean vibe all year round. 58

used in home cooking and barbeques.
The great thing is that this tree is available in a wide selection of shapes and sizes and can provide ample shade whilst adding an attractive architectural element.
Stunning Hanging Pots Hanging pots and balcony pots can also be used as long as they do not obscure your spectacular views. Choose pots with double bottoms to avoid frequent watering and use make life easier by selecting drought-resistant plants. Pick out plants such as Lamprantus, Geranium and Petunia to achieve a vibrant and uplifting effect.
Fruity Choices Add citrus notes to your space with Fortunella or Kumquat. This plant creates an opaque barrier and offers a delightful aroma during the flowering season. A bonus is that you will also get to have a harvest of delicious fruits. Make sure the pot has a drainage hole to prevent root rot and put a layer of stones or gravel at the very bottom for drainage.
Climbing Beauties Bougainvillea, Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine), Wisteria and Bignonia (Crossvine) are effective as gorgeous climbers on pergolas and vertical surfaces. Take your pick from an evergreen plant or go for a plant that blooms profusely. One handy tip is to choose a large pot for your climbing plant to offer stability and plenty of root space.
59
DECOR & STYLE
The Modern Style Contemporary Modern Style is all about creating the perfect synergy and flow of ‘indooroutdoor’. To get started on this aesthetic, select pots that reflect the style of your interiors and then intensify the effect by using a wide variety of shapes and textures. Choose cement, fiberstone (a mixture of stone and plastic), wood and rattan to achieve a stylish and natural effect. Whatever you do, avoid plastic – it isn’t attractive and is unpleasant for your plants as it heats up quickly and fails to retain water.
Evergreen Bliss Enjoy year-round luscious foliage with evergreen shrubs. Go for varieties with dense leaves such as Laurel, Laurel Cherry, Eleagnus, Viburnum.
Mediterranean Paradise Bamboo is a great natural choice to create air fences. Try to avoid using tropical plants with large leaves (Musa, Strelitzia) as they can take up space and obscure views.
60
PERFECT
Furnishing & Decor Luštica Bay is proud of its location and views, so adding elements that include stunning outdoor furnishing and décor enhance the surroundings and add that extra special touch to your space. A good tip is to always incorporate furniture that is designed with form and function in mind. This will help you expand your living space further by bringing the comfort of the indoors out.
61
DECOR & STYLE
A Kaleidoscope of Styles There are multiple styles to choose from depending on your taste and desired effect. Boho, Minimalism, Traditional are just some of the styles you can bring to your garden. Rustic stone, cane, natural wood, cement, crocheted & knitted fabrics, textures, creamy and white tones are key elements to bring together a sense of Boho style. For the Mediterranean terrace typical are warm colours and natural materials. For the Mediterranean balconies, you can combine metal furniture with fabric with pattern. Sets of rattan or cane are also a great choice, as well as white or blue colour that is associated with the sky and the sea, or terracotta colour scheme. Meanwhile, if you still prefer timeless minimalism, the use of crisp white tones is the most logical and effective choice. Your main furniture can also be white, while you can play with details such as cushions & accessories adding form, texture, and pops of colour. Another great tip is to use an indoor/outdoor rug as it will help set the foundation for your furniture layout.
62
Alive with Colours If you are crazy about colours, go for it. Just be careful to combine complementary colours. For example, yellow works well with green and blue, red works well with grey and white. You can never have too many throw-on pillows especially when you use wooden seating. Spruce up your garden with an assortment of colourful pillows that embody the beauty of the season.
Al Fresco Kitchens An outdoor kitchen is the ideal way to create the ultimate barbecues and parties. Outdoor kitchens come in a variety of shapes and sizes starting from the simple grill and sink combination to a more extensive kitchen that feels like an extension of the one indoors. Take the party outside and turn your garden into a special space for hosting friends and family so that they can enjoy the breath-taking beauty of Luštica Bay.
Little Ornamental Touches The most important rule with garden ornaments is to nestle them in with the planting. If you like the idea of hearing the trickle of running water in your garden, but don’t want a fountain, try a simple stone waterspout.

1. What inspires you when designing homes in Luštica Bay? This is a stunning destination with uninterrupted views of the Adriatic, and I’m inspired by the way in which the town is crafted to blend into its surroundings and echo the style of traditional fishing villages of Montenegro. With so much sunlight, I’m immediately drawn to the Mediterranean Style which has timeless appeal and can easily be modernised by pairing contemporary or modern furniture with historic architecture and natural features. Use of natural materials in finishes and decor such as wood, rattan, tile, ceramics, terracotta, wrought iron, linen, and cotton are key to this style and we can go for natural palettes or more vibrant patterned elements, depending on taste. 2. How does Home Glow cater for the Mediterranean Style aesthetic? We provide a large selection of brands that seamlessly lend themselves to the elements of Mediterranean interior design. The brand that immediately comes to mind is Spanish company Mahe Homeware. Their products are handmade using natural materials, often by local artisans and these beautiful items are created with respect for the environment. 3. Why is the Mediterranean Style so perfect for Luštica Bay? Luštica Bay exudes that Mediterranean’ al fresco’ lifestyle. Large common areas with open layouts and plenty of seating for family and social gatherings are a mainstay. It’s all about coming together to enjoy a good meal, good conversation, and being able to enjoy both indoors and outdoors with ease. Interior and exterior design flow together bringing the outside in, and the inside out. This indooroutdoor balance is perfect for this coastal lifestyle. Visions into Reality While designing this apartment it was important to create bright and airy spaces and to highlight natural materials like wood and stone. We installed a kitchen island with marble top, which we replicated in dining area. This white marble piece with its transparent glass tabletop gives lightness to the whole area. Combined with the wooden framed and white leather upholstered chairs it was a winning choice. The living room exudes natural tones with sand colour upholstery for the main seating area which is complemented by an abstract painting by Montenegrin artist Dušica Ivetić. Contrast black was used for part of the wall unit. To balance the intensity of white in the sleeping zone, we added textured upholstery for the queen size bed in creamy-green colours. Dušica’s art is also placed in this bedroom area to give it a little splash of sea colour. To make it more interesting we accessorised nightstands with table lamps in natural rope material.
“The living room exudes natural tones with sand colour upholstery for the main seating area which is complemented by an abstract painting by Montenegrin artist Dušica Ivetić. ”
68
Bold Statement
Each client expresses their style in a unique way, this time their wish was to go with darker colours in the living area. The idea was to evoke a specific mood by strategically using natural materials, sunlight, wood and metal. We highlighted the main living area but kept a small reading corner with bright lampshade. The Toluamide Bochart carpet connected all the colours, textures and materials into one coherent story.
69
Essence of
Mediterranean The apartment required more of a Mediterranean style. A centre piece wooden wall unit was incorporated with an earthy yellowish toned sofa bed which was lifted by the white coffee table and bright carpet. The dining room features a spectacular dining table accompanied by two handmade rattan chandeliers by Mahe Homeware. We used the same textures in the office room to connect the style through the whole apartment.
70
Relaxing Natural Palette
This apartment makes the most of gentle natural tones enhanced by light which connects to stunning outdoor views. The apartment has a huge L-shaped terrace perfect for balmy summer nights under the stars. The outdoor set in dove grey colours is a perfect match for the natural stone pavement and warm plaster tones. The interior is neutral, creating a sense of space with earthy colours as an accent. These palettes perfectly reflect the natural environment.

This pH balancing treatment is specifically formulated with an acidic pH value to combat the adverse effects of the dyeing process, styling devices and even water. The result? Healthy and well-groomed hair! 4. So how does this work, what’s the process? The Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate is formulated with citric acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid used in a variety of skin care products, and the brand’s Bonding Care complex. These ingredients work together to reinforce weakened bonds to help build your hair’s strength and resiliency. I recommend that Redken ABC live-in treatment be used as a complete system with Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s easy - apply Redken ABC to wet hair, lather, leave-in for about five to ten minutes and then rinse. Follow with Acidic Bonding Concentrate shampoo and conditioner and enjoy the results. 5.
