Arco di Augusto

Alla confluenza delle strade che vanno in Francia e Svizzera, Aosta sorge nel cuore di un’ampia pianura coronata da maestose montagne. Fondata dai Romani, conserva di quel periodo suggestive testimonianze fra cui l’Arco d’Augusto, la Porta Praetoria, il Teatro, il Criptoportico Forense e le mura. Ma anche il Medioevo ha lasciato le sue impronte: la Cattedrale e la Collegiata di Sant’Orso sono capolavori di quell’epoca.

At the confluence of the roads that go to France and Switzerland, Aosta rises in the heart of a wide plain crowned by majestic mountains. Founded by the Romans, it preserves historical evidence of that evocative period including the Arch of Augustus, Porta Praetoria, the Theatre, the Forensic cryptoportico and the walls. But the Middle Ages also left their mark: the Cathedral and the Collegiate Church of Sant’Orso are masterpieces of that time.
