The Labyrinth: Where to Find Resilience? By Kylie Mort

Introduction at what the poem is about: Hello, I’m Kylie Mort and I support individuals to become their best selves. There are times in life where we all may feel a sense of overwhelm. Perhaps we are harried or struggling, perhaps we have overcommitted and

realised that we don’t actually have the resources or time to meet all our obligations. Perhaps, our mindset is not as positive as it could be at present, and due to this, everything just seems to be too much. I wrote this poem from experience. I wrote from feeling overwhelmed and needing to dig deep into my

own toolbox of resources to find the peace and spaciousness I needed to reframe. To reimagine, redesign and recreate my current state. We all have a toolbox, we just need to remember how to access it. And sometimes, it’s just about focus, finding that spaciousness inside that will give you the time and energy to rejuvenate. To call upon your own inner resilience.

The Labyrinth: Where to Find Resilience? Overwhelm. When your obligations are so all-encompassing you cannot see where to begin. When you know in your head you should just choose a direction, Turn a corner, Step onto a pathway Yet your heart is so heavy you simply stare vacantly at the myriad of options. An array of tunnels that disperse into darkness, And you remain fixated, Unable to move forward. When you have overcommitted to so much Sorting priorities is like decoding some vast and complex labyrinth, All options of equal magnitude, All of indistinguishable and perilous precedence, And the sheer weight of those commitments Those promises and resolutions, Bear down on you like a leaden shroud. And you are buckling under the weight, Unable to break free, A crushing execution of your own making. When the impossibility of your deadlines accumulate like the rocks of pressing penance, And you suffer under the gradual weight of failure. Internally running the numbers and calculating your fate Desperately seeking to justify and rearrange the days, The hours, The minutes, Shortening with every tortured laborious breath. 10
