In 2005, Ashley Hanson and his young family left London for Cornwall to be close to the coastal landscape that continued to influence his work as an artist. After being inspired by the late Peter’s Lanyon’s ‘Porthleven’ 1951 painting, Porthleven harbour was the natural first point of call for Ashley’s Porthleven paintings, of which there are now 27. Ashley has naturally been drawn to other Cornish harbour towns too, with paintings of Padstow, Penzance, Fowey and Charlestown now in his collection. In 2019 Ashley had a solo-show called ‘COLOURSCAPES’ at the Heseltine Gallery in Truro. The exhibition was curated with over 50 paintings from his ‘City of Glass’ ‘Cornwall’ and ‘Americascapes’ series on show and was a great success. Ashley offers covid-friendly ‘Freedom in Painting’ workshops in both Porthleven and Kent throughout the year. Check out his website for up to date information www.ashleyhanson.co.uk.
