HELP US REIMAGINE MEADOWBROOK PARK

The City of Arlington is developing a Master Plan for Meadowbrook Park, Arlington’s first park that opened in 1924. In advance of the centennial celebration in 2024, Arlington Parks and Recreation has contracted with Kimley-Horn and Associates in the preparation of the master plan.

Visit bit.ly/APRDprojects to take the survey before the May 11 Master Plan public meeting.

WANT TO LEARN MORE?

The existing park is approximately 52 acres, inclusive of the park, golf course, and Eunice Activity Center. The amenities for the park will be determined by the City, consultant, stakeholder groups, and public through facilitated meetings, illustrated on the concept plan, and programmed into the final document.

Visit bit.ly/APRDprojects to learn more.

FITNESS

FITNESS PACKAGES

Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a variety of monthly membership packages that allow residents and visitors to enjoy programs and amenities at all recreation, athletics and senior centers across The American Dream City.

Monthly membership programs allow Arlington residents to participate in a wide range of Parks & Recreation’s programs at any center without paying additional fees as they would have under the previous membership program.

Monthly memberships can be purchased for individuals or for a family of up to five people. Individual membership rates are based on the age of the participant and are discounted for adult residents over the age of 60. Family memberships for anyone living under the same roof up to five people. Additional family members would need to purchase individual membership packages based on age. Non-residents are also eligible to buy a Parks & Recreation monthly membership at a slightly higher cost than residents.

Patrons can choose among three levels of membership, based on their needs and interests. For example, someone looking to swim laps at The East’s 113,000-gallon indoor pool or to take advantage of the indoor track at The Beacon may find the basic Blue membership to be the best fit for their fitness needs. A Green membership opens up access to weight room and cardio equipment at all centers. And the Gold membership provides patrons with discounts on select programs as well as the highest level of access to amenities and programs at all centers, including in-person and virtual fitness classes, roller skating at Elzie Odom, and on-site childcare for up to four children during visits at no extra cost.

Ready to begin enjoying all the great amenities and programs that Arlington has to offer? Stop by any of the centers or the Parks & Recreation Administration Office, 717 W. Main St., to sign up today. You can also purchase a membership online; naturallyfun.org. For questions or help, please call the Admin Office at 817-459-5474 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Not ready to commit to a monthly membership? Arlington Parks & Recreation offers a day pass for $8, which provides an individual with Gold membership access to any center. Patrons must be 15 years or older to purchase an individual membership or day pass.

Please note that water fitness classes for the indoor pool at The East are not included in any membership package. To purchase aquatics passes for water fitness classes, please call 817-275-1351.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

Arlington Parks and Recreation is committed to creating parks, facilities, and green spaces for you and your family to enjoy.

With park fees, bonds, and other sources of income, we’re able to renovate and create facilities to fit your needs.

Arlington residents unanimously approved a package of bond projects that focus on streets, parks, fire facilities and libraries in the 2018 Bond Election.

Take a minute to read about projects we’ve recently completed or that are already under way.

ROTARY DREAM PARK

The DREAM sculpture will be relocated to this new park by approximately summer 2023.

PHASE 1 IMPROVEMENTS

The City is designing a new .619 acre park located on E. Front Street between N. Center Street and N. Mesquite Street and Union Pacific Railroad. The DREAM sculpture, currently located on property owned by the First Baptist Church east of Founders Plaza and the Levitt Pavilion, will be relocated to this new park.

Also, in recognition of their 100th anniversary, the Rotary Club of Arlington is donating a new sculpture which will also be located on the same site. The City will complete the design and construction for the installation of both pieces of work and maintain this park in the future.

The Rotary Club of Arlington has imagined and donated funding to be used on the commissioned sculpture to be done by Jen Lewin Studio. The sculpture will celebrate the Rotary Club’s 100 years of dedication, vision and involvement with the Arlington community.

The sculpture will be installed by approximately summer 2023 in conjunction with the centennial celebration. The masterplan of the new park will allow for an interactive experience and a gathering point for residents and visitors to downtown Arlington. The park’s location is ideal to connect the new developments on Front and Division streets to the increasing vibrant downtown core south of the railroad tracks.

MINERAL WELL PUBLIC PLAZA

The City plans to rebuild history with this addition, expected to be completed in summer 2023.

This project will restore the famous Mineral Well that was torn down in 1951. This well is central to Arlington’s development and collective memory. As a result of this well and other historic buildings being torn down during the mid 1900’s, the Arlington community suffers from a disconnect with its historic past. Historic places and symbols are not well known to residents born outside of the city, and this is in part due to the limited number of recognizable cultural landmarks & lack of awareness of existing cultural landmarks. Recreating this historic well provides a platform to tell the story of one of the city’s most foundational places now lost to time. This Public Plaza development project will benefit both Arlington residents and heritage tourism efforts.

The project goal is to provide a public gathering place to memorialize the historic Mineral Well, through creation of a strong focal point and visual terminus for the view looking eastward down W. Main St. The proposed site is located at the west end of the plaza situated between City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library.

The scope of work includes construction of a public plaza. The plaza will include focal point elements such as the architectural clock tower with art work, sculpted by a local artist, water feature, seating areas and sculptural elements that memorialize the Mineral Well.

The project will be funded through the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and Arlington Parks and Recreation Department (APRD). APRD will operate and maintain the fountain and seek operating and maintenance funding in the City’s general fund budget to support these efforts. The City completed Competitive Sealed Proposal process of procurement for selecting the contractor. A selection committee conducted an evaluation process and selected a contractor who was deemed most qualified for this project. City Council approved Construction Contract with Millis Development and Construction - Dallas, LLC, of Missouri City, Texas in the amount $2,387,846.50. The Office of Business Diversity (OBD) recommended the City’s Aspirational 30% MWBE Goal for this contract. Construction began late 2022, with a dedication ceremony anticipated in summer 2023.

ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT CORRIDOR LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT LANDSCAPE

Less than a mile north of Downtown Arlington is the Arlington Entertainment District. Well known for its increasing variety of professional sports franchises, Six Flags Over Texas, and Texas Live!, the District is readying itself for even more international attention with its growing number of sought-after hotels, an all-new Convention Center, and the National Medal of Honor Museum, all set to open within the next two years.

Conceptual design documents and construction documents for the existing medians along Six Flags Drive, from E. Copeland Road to Road to Six Flags E. have been completed. The landscape improvements will be limited within the existing medians and along portions of the existing right-of-way and amenities will include landscaping, irrigation, and light pole locations. The landscape design will be determined by the City, consultant, Six Flags Staff, and TxDOT through design meetings during the project, with an anticipated project completion date of summer 2023.

MEMORIALS AT VETERANS PARK

Collaborating with the Walton Walker Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation will complete a Korean War Memorial and Korean Defense Veterans Memorial (KWKDVM) and a Memorial to the Fallen (MTTF) in Arlington Veterans Park. The KWKDVM will consist of five black granite columns placed inside a circular pedestrian area enclosed by a seating wall. Four of the columns will recognize the military service branches that served in the Korean conflict. The center column contains a map of the Korean Peninsula. In the center of the memorial, a bronze kneeling military figure faces the granite columns.

The water feature and star in the original Master Plan was replaced in the revised plan with paving consisting of a granite star inside a circle. The existing initial memorial and the Vietnam War memorials surround this star, as would the KWKDVM and MTTF memorials and any future memorials. A five-sided granite memorial will contain the names of all the Arlington residents who have died in the nation’s service during times of war. The Arlington Historical Society has an ongoing project to find all the names of the fallen from Arlington.

The Arlington Veterans Park Foundation is the coordinating entity for the memorial area. The foundation and the Korean War Veterans contracted with Parkhill for design services. The foundation paid the majority portion (62.5%) of the contract to design the Korean War memorial and the Memorial to the Fallen (Master Plan Revision).

The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation awarded $701,765 to the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department for the project. APRD will operate and maintain the memorials and seek operating and maintenance funding in the City’s general fund budget to support these efforts.

Design development commenced winter 2021. Construction is currently underway, with an anticipated project completion date of winter 2023.

TEXAS RANGERS GOLF CLUB

701 Brown Blvd.

Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers have partnered to build the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — which opened in February 2019. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike.

“As the world’s only MLB-themed golf course, this course is sure to be a ‘bucket list’ item for baseball fans across the globe, especially our Rangers fan right here in Arlington,” Mayor Jeff Williams said.

The golf club is open to the public seven days a week. Texas Rangers Golf Club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers Game, TexasLive!, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, UTA or downtown Arlington.

A $24 million project, Texas Rangers Golf Club involved a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, which opening in early 2020, features a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces.

TIERRA VERDE GOLF CLUB

817-478-8500

7005 Golf Club Dr.

fb.com/TierraVerde

Newly renovated, It’s hard to find a more beautiful course than the award-winning Tierra Verde Golf Club. Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Walk onto the first tee and enter an environment where golf and nature come together in harmony.

Opened in 1998 and carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course’s unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. The course has hosted many prestigious events, including the Byron Nelson Qualifying Tournament.

Tierra Verde has been named the top golf course in the Metroplex for three years (2012-14) by AvidGolfer magazine.*

Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards - all accented by stately trees and beautiful native grasses.

The facility features a state-of-the-art golf learning center, a lighted driving range, three-hole practice course and large chipping and putting green complex. Lessons and clinics are taught by PGA/LPGA professionals and apprentices, an outdoor pavilion and full-service restaurant, Ventana Grille, that complement every event from small corporate outings to large fundraising tournaments.

VENTANA GRILLE AT TIERRA VERDE GOLF CLUB

Trade the typical parking lot views of other restaurants for Ventana Grille and the sights and sounds of Tierra Verde Golf Club — the first Audubon Signature Sanctuary golf course in Texas — where golf, dining and nature come together.

Chefs Brandon Green and James Martone invite you to come enjoy their culinary creations!

Open to the public daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offering a takeout menu, Ventana Grille’s affordable options makes it the perfect place for your next meal.

Ideally located less than three miles from I-20 off US 287, Ventana Grille is an excellent place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a couple of drinks after your round of golf. It’s also a great quick casual lunch spot for you and your co-workers, and the ideal setting to celebrate your next special event.

The kitchen is open daily from 6:30 AM to 9 PM and features Avid Golfer’s ‘Best Breakfast Burrito’ and daily lunch specials under $15.

Be sure to visit ArlingtonGolf.com to see a list of upcoming events at Ventana Grille. Whether you are attending one of our special holiday functions, Date Night dinners, or are just enjoying a meal away from home, Ventana Grille promises to be a delight to the taste buds.

Catering, wedding receptions, private parties, to-go orders and special requests are welcome. Take the stress off and let us handle the details for your upcoming event.

Lake Arlington Golf Course is a beautiful, 18-hole facility nestled on 185 acres on the north shore of Lake Arlington. The course was designed with all types of players in mind. With the newly renovated fairways and greens, the course provides a great golfing experience at an exceptional value.

Lake Arlington’s time-honored design blends open and tree-lined fairways, long challenging par 3’s and scenic greens to appeal to every level of player.

A challenge for the professional as well as the beginner, the four sets of tees, ranging from 5,485 yards to 6,637 yards, provides a fair playing field that appeals to every level.

The clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop and grill. Lake Arlington’s combination of enjoyable golf, convenient location and professional staff create the perfect setting for group outings and tournaments.

The course offers challenging golf along with a practice putting green and chipping area at an exceptional value.

A Ralph Plummer design, the course was renovated in 1998 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.

Avid Golfer voted Lake Arlington the most kid-friendly course in DFW in 2013, while the layout garnered a Top-50 public course ranking in the publication too.

PGA Head Professional Michael Berneburg and his staff offer golf lessons for all ages and ability levels. Call 817-451-6101 for rates and availability.

MEADOWBROOK PARK GOLF COURSE

Arlington’s tradition of outstanding golf began in the 1920’s with Meadowbrook Park Golf Course. Conveniently located just east of downtown Arlington, the golf course provides an excellent choice for families and leagues.

The golf course is the centerpiece of Arlington’s first city park. Arlington purchased the 52-acre site in 1923 and it was sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club.

The site includes picnic grounds and the tree-filled, nine-hole golf course. Many of the holes feature vistas of nearby AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Meadowbrook Park is the perfect facility to learn golf and sharpen short-game skills. The 9-Hole, par-33 layout consists of six par 4s, 250 to 300 yards in length, and three par 3s, approximately 150 yards in length.

The course can be easily walked or played under time constraints and has a long-standing commitment to beginning adult and junior golfers. Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson once led golf clinics here.

Its small greens and narrow fairways are designed to challenge every level of player.

The clubhouse offers a full line pro shop, concessions, and golf cart rentals. Exclusive facility rental opportunities are available for both golf and non-golf outdoor activities.

With a long-standing commitment to environmental enhancement and preservation, Meadowbrook Park Golf Course is like a walk in the park for the whole family!
