VIEWS OF THE OLD TOWN
T
allinn's Old Town is undoubtedly our biggest attraction. But where do you get the best views of the old town? You will definitely get a good overview of the old town from uppertown, Toompea: from the viewing platforms of Patkul, Kohtuotsa or Piiskopiaia. Also from the Governor's garden or from our artificial hills, former bastions, Harjumäe, Lindamäe or Rannaväravamäe. Today we take a look at where the best views in the lower city are. Wall galleries or passages on the city's medieval defensive wall. There are three of them in the city. The oldest is the so-called nunnery or gymnasium or in the western part of the defensive wall. With the entrance in Nunne tower, it possible to walk through Sauna and Kuldjala tower. In the eastern part of the defensive wall, it is possible to climb the defense passage connecting Hellemani and Munkadetagune tower, nearly 200 meters long. The longest, more than 300 meters and the highest wall gallery is between Kiek in de Kök, Neitsitorn, Tallitorn and the

Short Leg Gate Tower. Probably the best and panoramic view and there is also a cafe in Neitsitorni with wall windows. Of the towers to visit and that do not have a wall walks, Epping Tower and Paks Margareeta are accessible to the public. They are not very tall towers, but they certainly offer their own perspectives. Among them, Fat Margarete (Maritime Museum) is very convenient, as it leads up to the roof with an elevator. In addition, there is also a good cafe on the roof. However, the longest church tower, Oleviste, offers the most comprehensive view from every angle. It is true that getting to the top requires some physical fitness, you have to climb more than 200 steps. It is definitely worth trying the view of the Town Hall tower, which is offered to the public until the end of August on the occasion of the building's jubilee. In just a few months, however, those interested will be able to enjoy the magnificent city views very comfortably - an elevator will be built in St. Nicholas' Church.
