Save your energy! With the cost of living rising by the day it is essential that you are making every saving possible. Gareth Jones from Carbon Zero Renewables shares his top ten energy saving tips…

1. Make sure you have swapped all of your light bulbs over to LED. Swapping to a LED light can save you £180 over its lifetime. 2. If you have electric heaters, look at swapping these out for infrared heaters. Ensure convection/oil heaters are switched off when not required. They can cost you nearly £1 an hour to run otherwise! 3. Ensure any leaks around doors and windows are sealed to avoid expensive heat escaping this winter. 4. Ensure you have maximum amounts of insulation in the loft, again to retain the heat in your home. Heat rises, so the loft is always a place heat can escape. 5. Heating controls can save you lots this winter. Whether it’s a thermostat on the wall or valves on the radiator – you need to be in control of the controls so that you can avoid heating unused areas. 6. Simply drying your clothes outside or on an airer can save you lots of money over the year. Just make sure you open your windows even on the latch to get air in to the property to avoid causing damp. 7. If you live alone or have a small family then consider buying an air fryer as these are cheaper to run than conventional ovens. 8. During the winter open your curtains and allow natural heat gain to warm your home. In the summer you can close your curtains to stop this, keeping rooms cool to avoid fans being used. 9. If you have an electric shower take shorter showers as electric showers use lots of electric. Fitting a mixer shower off the gas boiler could save you two thirds of the equivalent electricity. 10. And finally, once you have reduced everything you can to its absolute lowest, it might be time to look at generating your own electric via solar panels…
