SBCforefrontsthe PhilippineIdentification SystemRegistrationin Batangas

PhilippineStatisticsAuthority(PSA)givesPhilippineIdentification System (PhilSys) Institutional Registration to the students of St. Bridget College in the SBC Conference Room,Feb.27.

Since most unregistered citizens are students in school, the PSA contacts schools in a collaborative effort to register individuals to accommodate paperless and digitized transactions better.

In the Province of Batangas, St. Bridget College was the first to go through the Institutional Registration, effectively registering 686 students ages five and up. From February 27 until March 3, specialists provided registration, ePhilID verification, and issuance.

Currently, out of the 7849 million registrants, only 3711 million PhilIDs have been printed and 2984 million PhilIDs have been delivered by the Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office) The PSA is also collaborating with other sectors, such as the DSWD to exercise the effectiveness of the online identification system in poor households

With the burning of the Manila Central Post Office, many are concerned with their National IDs The PSA is coordinating with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in identifying the exact number of fake IDs and is assuring the media that they will replace all affected material

According to Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD., PSA Undersecretary, “We assure the public that the PhilIDs affected by the fire shall be replaced by the PSA at no additional cost to concerned registered persons, following protocols set by the PSA for such scenarios.”

“Personally, I find the process to be quick yet easy to follow, especially with the help of multiple personnel that assured a smooth process within the area,” remarks Dwight S Dichoso of 10-Obedience, one of the students who registered through the institutional registration

“Though I cannot verify if it will be beneficial as proposed or if it will have a more adverse effect with its privacy concerns I'm quite optimistic that the registration will be helpful nationwide to provide ease, verification, and security for a more productive and efficient economy,” Dichoso adds

“I started to take an interest in studying in the United States when I was in the 10th grade, but as a public high school student, I did not have a lot of opportunities to become familiar with the application process, the College Prep Program came at the right time I met hands-on advisers who helped me choose best-fit colleges, prepare for standardized tests, edit essays, and much more,” Guia stated

"I think it will be a huge help for my parents, at the same time it is an achievement for me because it means Iʼm doing well with my studies! So definitely I will be going to take and grab it I will hold onto it for as long as I can"

Pia Dimayuga, a Grade 7 Bridgetine said upon being asked what will be her action if she will be given the chance to qualify for the scholarship

The worldʼs center of the center of marine biodiversity Verde Island Passage, is under serious threat, primarily due to an oil spill left behindbythesunkenMTPrincessEmpress,March20.

Specialists in marine science voiced their worry that the oil spill would reach the Verde Island Passage due to the ocean current The Northeast Monsoon, which is blowing the oil leak toward Naujan and Pola, Oriental Mindoro, is the only thing preventing this from happening, as said by Oceanography Expert Cesar L Villanoy on March 14 during a Senate hearing

According to the Protect Verde Island Passage (Protect VIP) campaign network, man-made disasters must serve as an "eye-opener" to the miseries the Verde Island Passage has long experienced, regardless of its economic and ecological worth. In a statement, Governor Fr Edwin Gariguez criticized the company responsible for the incident

Aside from that, the Verde Island Passage remains threatened due to future Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects Environmentalists cautioned, however, that what the government views as a solution to the nation's energy security and transition issues would have an irreversible effect on the Verde Island Passage.

Due to other significant issues such as overpopulation, pollution, overfishing, illegal and destructive fishing, exploitation of marine life, and destruction of habitat, Verde Island continues to be in danger

Anya Mari Casas, a student from Grade 9 - Modesty, shared her insight on solutions regarding the current troubles of the VIP, "Some of the best ways to solve the current issues of the Verde Island Passage are to educate and to conserve As a bridgetine, we can do these practices and help improve livelihoods and our biodiversity"

OFWsreceivefinancialaid fromthePHgovernment

Due to the lack of wages given to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), a memorandum was signed to deal with financial aid by the Philippine government,March12

Approximately 100,000 unpaid OFWs are still waiting for their back wages from construction firms in Saudi Arabia that declared bankruptcy from 2015 to 2019 It was an agreement between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that they would receive financial aid

Each worker will receive PhP 10,000 from the department while a P100 million fund has been issued The respective departments have reserved PhP 50 million each for financial aid

"We will release the humanitarian assistance within the next two weeks with DMW-OWWA leading the distribution efforts," said DMW Secretary Susan Ople during the MOA signing with DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian

Ople also stated that the DMW and DSWD are collaborating to support the children of OFWs who have been placed in the care of next of kin or household members

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), an attached DMW agency, will create an electronic or digital portal for OFW beneficiaries to register and apply for assistance A designated focal person from OWWA and DSWD will oversee the process and monitor compliance in the disbursement of public funds

The DSWD will cover implementing its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Program in partnership with the OWWA It will also provide technical assistance to the OWWA to ensure the smooth implementation of the financial aid program

The United States Agency for International Development collaborated with the provincial government to establish a hearing test center to further aid childrenwithdisabilitiesinBatangascity,January13.

USAID Mission Director Ryan Washburn, together with Governor Herminaldo Mandanas, inaugurated a facility with an audiometer and hearing test devices donated by the US as part of their P112 million Gabay project

“This is a symbol of us being able to hear the needs of the people, and this could be a motivation for us being able to see the need to contribute to society,” said Governor Mandanas in his press statement "We should work together with sincere commitment in improving the welfare of these children and persons with disability," he added

This program aims to give help and access to better healthcare and education for children with special needs Gabay works with local authorities in the Batangas, Sorsogon, and Southern Leyte provinces to recognize students with vision and hearing problems

Through the Gabay project, the number of deaf and blind students enrolled from 2019 to 2022 has increased, strongly improving access to education for children with disabilities

"USAID is deeply committed to the inclusion of people with vision and hearing disabilities and those who advocate and offer services on behalf of people with disabilities," said the USAID Mission Director Ryan Washburn “The US government remains your enduring friend, partner, and ally as you charter a path toward inclusive and resilient growth for all Batangueños,” Washburn added

Bianca Baguinon from 9 - Modesty hoped that more projects like this would come because these can help children reach greater heights in life, especially in oneʼs health and well-being

Its Purpose SEA-ING

Everycountryhasitsownpriority Itmaydependon the necessity, ability, and state And the truth is, having priority can lead to the destruction and weakness of other sectors if not managed and given time appropriately

orld War II, which happened from 1939-1945, was one of the most tragically devastating periods that occurred in the history of mankind Truth be told, the Pearl of the Orient Seas is a part of the war, thus, imparting a variety of casualties to the Filipinos, their lands, and their economy, one wherein the Japanese contributed to the sufferings that the people of the Philippines have experienced Now, it continues to haunt the citizens who have experienced the war, particularly the Philippinesʼ very own ʻcomfort women,ʼ also known as the Filipinas who experienced sexual slavery under the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II

WorldWarII,whichhappenedfrom1939-1945,wasoneofthemosttragicallydevastating periods that occurred in the history of mankind. Truth be told, the Pearl of the Orient Seas is part of the war, thus, imparting a variety of casualties to the Filipinos, their lands, and their economy, one wherein the Japanese contributed to the sufferings that the people of the Philippines experienced. Now, it continues to haunt the citizens who have experienced the war, particularly the Philippinesʼ very own ʻcomfort women,ʼ who experienced sexual slavery under the Japanese Imperial Army duringWorldWarII

The Philippines failed to offer restitution, social support, or acknowledgment for the harm suffered by people who were subjected to sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, according to the United Nations (UN) women's rights committee With the goal to administer justice to these former Filipino "comfort women," who consistently voiced their grievances, seeking the Philippine government to back the claims they made in opposition to Japan for reparations for their difficulties, a non-profit organization called "Malaya Lolas" was established in 1997 Given that the residents of the Philippines are closely tied to the dignity and respect that have even been remotely given and recognized, further indifference and absence of action by the government regarding this issue could ultimately cause moral and economic damage to the society of the Philippines

A lot happened when the Japanese entered and slayed the Philippine territory, further adding to the list of countries who had colonized the Philippines It was clear in history how much suffering and damage that has befallen the nation due to this, even if it only lasted for three years, which is much shorter than the period of colonization by the previous colonizers There was still a lot of slavery that happened because of this, wherein almost every man woman child and elderly person was forced to ʻbow downʼ and listen to the Japanese A still raising concern is the women who have experienced sexual abuse during that period Because of the Philippine Governments blindness to the call to help from the existing ʻcomfort womenʼ in todayʼs time, their ignorance belittles the experiences these women have faced, which allowed modern Japanese leaders to deny the war crimes they have committed Furthermore, these sexually-abused Filipinas served to be witnesses to the abuse that these Japanese leaders refused to take responsibility for Even if it all happened in history, one bodes well to take responsibility for their actions and act upon the given circumstances; turning a blind eye prevents one from doing so One of the worst scenarios of the experience is not experiencing comfort or support after a traumatic experience That is exactly what happened to these Filipinas No support was given to these ʻcomfort women' by the government of the Philippines, wherein they also refused to adhere to the sacrifices performed by these Filipinas Even until the death of Lola Lita Vinuya, a Filipino elderly woman who claimed she was among those sexually abused during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines and the president of ʻMalaya Lolas,ʼ the justice that these women have been longing and fighting for has not yet been served despite of all the years that have gone by to send out reparations to the people The abuse that these women faced caused them trauma, and their sufferings shouldnʼt have gone unnoticed Because of this, the government gave a sense of them condoning the sufferings experienced by the women These survivors, even until the end, are still left to fight and fend for themselves without proper acknowledgment of the traumas that they have experienced and are still experiencing today What supposedly should be supported for these women turned out to be supported sexual slavery

On a social level, not enough reparational support for this issue fails to implement appropriate measures to prohibit all prejudice against women and protect their rights on an equal basis with men Not only did the Philippine government take advantage of the experiences of these women but it also sends out a message that the sufferings faced by these women are minor inconveniences in comparison to the experiences that of the males This just gives the public more reason to support a patriarchal society for the government shows how small they regarded the experiences and traumas that these sexually-abused Filipinas have encountered

Women are constantly faced already with abuse in the streets due to cat-calling to the point that even what somebody wears in their bodies and faces are constantly pointed out, judged, or sexualized This has been to the point that no matter what age someone is, may it be a child or an elderly person, these women could experience blatant sexual abuse from everyone What happened to the women during Japanese colonialism is a blatant violation of their rights not only as women but also as a person This shows the narrowed vision of the government to the whole Philippines The loss of interest and action caused economic and moral damages to the nation And because the Philippine government is not acknowledging the pleas of justice from these women, it comes off as a reason to disrespect women even more which adds fuel to the fire of an ongoing violation of the rights of women until this day

With a new government in place in the Philippines, there are undoubtedly many ʻgreaterʼ issues that the government is now dealing with Even if a new Congress has been in place for a year, there is still much to be done to improve the situation, which is still somewhat difficult Nevertheless, the government's meager action has been a concern for years The "Malaya Lolas" portrays the unmistakable reality that no justice is achieved and that a continuous struggle is taking place

History records what actually unfolded in the past, and at that period, strong and influential women were formed Justice needs to be given to these women right away Now more than ever people around the world are fighting for equal treatment and fairness The voices of the women are loud, almost deafening, and Sheryl Sandberg pointed out that "We need women at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women's voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored" These are not calls for rescue; rather, they are the voices of the unvoiced; which fall on deaf ears Their cries go unheard by the governing body, without much to expect, giving little value to the faced concern

Eversincethemaritimeindustryhashadabigthingto dowithdevelopment Indeed, ithasthesameimportanceas land - one of the Philippines' greatest projects This is a simple reason why it is a big yes to have PH Maritime Industry a top priority! Bringing and giving back the attention it deserves for balance and fruitful development in everyaspectthecountryneedstofocuson

The maritime industry is responsible for making transportation and transactions by sea happen It is like an alternative to air and land transportation, something people can add to their options, something they could enjoy more and work and make things happen more comfortably Yet the sad reality in the past years maritime hasnt been the main thing; it is being controlled and managed, but not totallymaintainednorupgraded

Given that the Philippines is a maritime nation I believeitistimeforustomakethemaritimeindustryagaina top priority,” the President said at the Philippine Maritime Industry Summit 2023 The Philippines is known for its marine beauty and the significance it brings to the lives of its peopleandthecountriesthatcountonit

This is a big gem that the country carries! A big shoot to prove and never disappoint! This is a big catch for a country that was once discriminated against and manipulated “While we already hold a dominant position in global shipping, I certainly believe that we can do more, especially here at home,” he added This is the perfect time to put everything in this perfect timing to show what and how the country learns and develops through the years It is a time to showthatitcandobetterwithitsresourcesandintelligence

The more the merrier the better! One of the advantages of the maritime industry is the service it can give Large volume shipments, high tonnage shipments, etc Services that the air and land cannot give Qualities that it can show and expectations that it can increase Today time is really fast! WithformerpresidentDuterte'scampaignafewyears ago, itsunsurprisingtoseedruguseandthedrugwar be sensitive topics in the Philippines today Extrajudicial killings certainly didnt rank high in morality, but they did do what it was set out to do ‒ diminish the use of drugs That alone doesnt make up for all the results; however, it left in its wake families of victims craving for justice more police brutality, and fear and trauma in the hearts of the people, particularly the impoverished Having all of this in mind, the anti-drug campaign sounds like it did more harm than it has donewell Nowthequestionis, whatelsecanwedo?

Though it may sound counterintuitive, legalization, of at least cannabis seems to be a viable solution This subject of cannabis has been around for a while now and has been steadily moving in the favor of many people How can this be when drug addiction has claimed and ruined many lives? We must take a directlookintothiscontroversytoknowtheanswerburieddeep Cannabis refers to flowering plants commonly used to create cannabis drugs like marijuana It contains many cannabinoids, chemicals found in the plant that cause drug-like effects in the body Still, the main component for the psychoactive impacts of the herb is a cannabinoid called Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC for short THC levels in cannabis have exponentially increased in recent years as it has been engineered to make its effects on the brainevenmoreintense Anothermajorcannabinoidithousesis Cannabidiol or CBD which works to balance the effects of THC actingasitsopposite

Despite being classified as Schedule I a drug with a very high potential for abuse it has been shown to cause fewer deaths than initially believed In fact, marijuana overdose has been reported to cause no deaths; the same can't be said for other marijuana-related deaths like smoking the drug, vehicular casualties etc ThedrughasalsobroughtMarijuanaUseDisorder tothetable withitsnamebeingself-explanatory

With everything prior in mind, why exactly would we want to stop cannabis from being illegal? The answer isn't as simple as saying because its good, far from that, in fact, so heres the basic gist There are many complex psychological disorders like insomnia in the world Though most of them have been cured, there are still many cases where patients have not recovered from their disorders despite trying all treatments Thats where our all-natural herb comes in Numerous people have said that cannabis intake has helped them with their anxiety and insomnia Thesebenefitscanaccountforthedrug'spsychoactive effects

In this modern world, maritime transportation is needed Today, comfort, easy work, and easy access are more important Things can be done fast yet surely and safely! It is just as easy as 1, 2, 3! That is the help that technology gives, technology that can be found in everything! Almost everythingisbeingcontrolledbymoderntechnology!Soifthe maritime industry is supported, technology is supported as well!

It opens many doors full of opportunities for everybody, evendreams!Anestimated380,000Filipinoseafarers,orovera quarter of all global merchant shipping crew members, are deployed on domestic or foreign-flagged shipping vessels It is obviousthatthisisalittlebitfewtosaybecausetherearestilla lot of Filipinos who are included in the unemployment rate; in prioritizing and waking the benefits of the maritime industry, these numbers can increase, many lives can improve, many dreams can be achieved, as well as the goals and aims of the country! The people need development, not just for the countrytheybelongto, butforthemselvesaswell!

Globalization is essential for connection! No man is an island! And of course no country can stay on its own land while fulfilling the needs of its people with its own power and strength! No one can be alone; no one survives without help! Right? Because the flaws and imperfections can be healed and completed through the power of friendship! Having it as a way of transportation for connections transactions and businesses strengthens the value and aim of globalization! To build a family relationship between countries to help and share the cultures traditions and beliefs of everybody while helping one another achieve that “fruitful success!”

It is not really easy to balance oneʼs attention! There will always be a side that will surely be focused on, and the other is obviously sacrificed! But that is what life teaches us! Everything is important! Every creation He has given us has its own contribution; all we need to do is take care, live it, and enjoy it! In order for a country to grow, every sector must be balanced! The strength and weaknesses must be classified to know where to focus more and where to relax! In reality, hidden things are more likely to give something that can lift and give sparkle to oneʼs dull times! Just like what the maritime industry givesus!Itisnotyetlatetogivetimeandefforttoit!

Open your eyes, SEA its purpose, dive deeper into the world full of dreamy waves, and make the Philippines a better, wiser, andstrongercountry!

A High for Legalization

A question youre probably wondering now is, Wouldnt this start an addiction? It's like a gateway drug; it'll do more harm than good! theanswertothatisaddictionvariesfrompersontoperson Some have biologies that let them handle cannabis easier than others The mental state of an individual also influences this Trauma has been shown to be the underlying issue in a very significant amount of drug cases This can be seen with Portugals DecriminalizationofDrugs

The country in question had a very severe HIV and AIDS issue back in 1999 and after conducting numerous studies they found that drug use was the reason STD cases were skyrocketing In response the government decriminalized the possession and use ofdrugspairedwithhealthrehabilitation Theplanwastotreatthe victimsbetterwithmorerespectwhilesettingthemonthepathto recovery, and the program was a success This led the police force toshifttheirfocustothelowlevelsandchasethebigbossesorthe kingpins in the drug industry The nation's prison population consisted of fewer drug users and the whole population had significantly more people in treatment With the states rising population drugs were lessening little by little Seeing all that its nowonderauthoritiesmarkedthisprojectasahugesuccess

An argument that people propose is how cannabis can easily lead to death This can be countered with the fact that cannabis deaths are mainly caused by the smoking of said drug, which can and should be replaced by other consumption methods like capsules and edibles Another argument is that there arent enough studies and evidence to put cannabis in a good light While that may be true, the legalization of cannabis can really help with that issue If citizens are to be believed the risk isnt as high if peoplehandlethisdrugwiththecareandresponsibilityitrequires

The main takeaway from this is to treat cannabis just like a medicine Yes it can lead to addiction and hinder adolescents' growth, so just dont give it away easily Make tests, provide the proper education and have professionals handle it If the euphoric effects are the problem, then just opt for cannabis with CBD as it provides similar help as THC products without having the psychoactivity The medicinal world is growing fast, and treating cannabis as a possible treatment would really help with that Caffeine used to be in a similar predicament as cannabis many years ago and look where it is now; just like what the stoics always say, changinghowyoureactcanbringaboutthebestchanges

Bomb TICKING

herehavealwaysbeenthesechillswhentheword“TheBigOne”is mentioned ItbecameaworrytosomeFilipinos, fearinghowintense will it be and how will it affect the land and its people Numerous questions like When is it happening? were thrown yet the answers were far from reach With the technology that the Philippines has, predicting earthquakes would be impossible From thousands of questions, onlyonesolutionremains;KnowledgeandPreparedness

A big one happened in Turkey and Syria in 2023 with a 78 magnitude Will the Philippines be the next? According to a study by risk assessment and consultancy firm PSA Philippines Consultancy Inc published in 2019, the Big One would produce at least 52000 deaths and 500000 injuries With that nervousness in mind the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) offered a National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) in all parts of the country With all that is happening around the globe, this drill is precisely what the country needs, an earthquake drill every quarter for the increased alertnessandpeaceofmindofallFilipinos

Looking back at different science classes, it is without a doubt that the Philippines is prone to earthquakes Ground shaking often happens, small or big due to its location inside the Pacific Ring of Fire The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) noted about 100-150 earthquakes yearly, an average of 20 per day It is almost like living with ticking bombs that can explode tomorrow Living in a home where quakes often reside, prioritizing an earthquake drill will be helpful for the sole home of the Filipinos the Philippines Without action the bomb wouldexplodewithworseoutcomes

The quarterly earthquake drills aim to promote preparedness and resilience among Filipinos during disasters as diminutive or as immense as the Big One Everyone gains awareness from this repetitive training and Filipinos are now much more aware than 20 years before As NDRRMC executive director Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said, "Preparedness always matters Let us work together to reduce the possible impacts of earthquakes We hope for the widest participation in the upcoming drill" Awareness will be the key to saving oneself and their loved one from the warnings of the Big One A deep understanding of 113 million Filipinos can protectthePearloftheOrientSeas, andanearthquakedrillmightbethekey NSED does not just train Filipinos about Duck cover and hold It also evaluates homes, roads, and the location of the fault lines “I just want to remind everyone that earthquakes per se do not kill The collapse of humanbuilt structures such as buildings, retaining walls, and dams may claim lives

So we have to ensure that building codes are strictly followed said the PHIVOLCS officer-in-charge Teresito Bacolcol Double-checking infrastructures limits the aftermath of the disaster and reduces the cost needed for repairs Not only that, but planning, double-checking, and evaluating save lives not only yours but also for those who will coincidentally passbyyourhomesduringadisaster

It is without a doubt that National Earthquake Drills help Filipinos in every way to alleviate the damage of a quake, yet practicing in an open area, especially under the hot sun influences people to faint or lose consciousness for lots of people gather under the heat to practice for an unexpected disaster One hundred twenty students were hospitalized due to the hot weather, andonesufferedfromapanicattack One

solution is to schedule a time and day when the heat will not cause discomfort to citizens, especially children That way, Filipinos could successfully partake in an earthquake drill where distress from the weatherwouldnotdistractlearning

National Earthquake Drills attempts to locate any holes and suggest necessary improvements to the current earthquake response plans, rules, and processes However such efforts would only be successful with the cooperation of the citizens Every lesson during the drill should be kept in mind as this small information can save everyone on the day the Big One appears “We call on everyone to join the drill once again as part of our effort to reinforce earthquake preparedness Earthquakes can happen anytime without warning and sometimes they can be as devastating as what happened in Türkiye," Nepomuceno added Let this be a lesson that everyoneʼscooperationisneededtomitigateastrongopponent

One shouldnt be complacent about disasters that often hit the Philippines because no good outcome is achieved without proper preparedness As Bacolcol said, “Everyone must prepare and must be involved ThatisnotonlythebusinessofPHIVOLCS

Itʼseveryoneʼsdutyto prepare Every effort of each Filipino matters especially on this ticking bomb, theBigOne

There are many ways in which a person could die A terminal illness could cause death or simply because of old age Although, it can also happen due to many outside forces, such as crimes of passion, assassination, homicide, terrorism, murder, and so much more Death is something that no one ever suspects or can easily predict Unfortunately this is only proven by the many victimsofthePamplonaMassacre, whichhashappenedveryrecently

The Pamplona Massacre occurred on March 4, 2023, when gunmen assassinated Roel Degamo the governor of Negros Oriental at his residence in the town of Pamplona while he was distributing aid to participants of a conditional cash transfer program Eight other innocents sadly got caught in theincidentanddied

Of course this is quite a tragic event for the families of these victims How could someone do such an inhumane act without considering the consequences that might ensue? Itʼs pretty apparent that the criminals behind this assault were aiming to have Degamo dead, but the question is, why?Toanswerthat wemustfirstknowwhothisformergovernoris

Roel Degamo, son of Arturo Degamo and Luzviminda Ragay, was a native of Negros Oriental, born in Barangay Bonawon in Siaton town on April 29, 1966 anddiedattheageof56inhisresidenceonMarch4 2023

When we take a look at his political career, weʼll see that he was elected as aprovincialmemberofNegrosOrientalin2010afterreceivingthemostvotes in his province's third legislative district In an odd twist of fate he was appointed as the vice governor after then-Negros Oriental vice governor Agustin Perdices succeeded then-governor Emilio Macias II, who died in June 2010 from liver cancer and in 2011, he became the governor after Perdices alsopassedaway

Before I start, thank you, editors and writers, for giving time and effort to share and provide us with information through your articles

We officially started having face-to-face classes this school year after two years of Online Distance Learning When I started coming to school, I noticed that some classroomsʼ air conditioning are often not working, including ours (sometimes) And I can say from experience that it affects my ability to learn, especially if the weather is scorching, like nowadays Do you think that having a lack of suitable infrastructure, resources, and materials affect the ability of the students to learn?

Beingguidedbythebeaconof light, JasminedeChavez

Degamo ran for governor of his province in 2013 after finishing the terms of Macias and Perdices Despite his party the PDP-Laban not being as powerful or influential as others at the time, Degamo still managed to defeat opponents from significant parties such as the Nationalist People's Coalition andthethen-rulingLiberalParty

Adding to that the deceased governor began politics in 1998 when he was elected councilor of Siatown, a position he held until 2007 From 2004 to 2007, Degamo was president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)Negros Oriental Chapter Later, he was elected chairman of the PCL Central Visayas

In the 2022 election, Degamo stood for a fourth term but was defeated by Pryde Henry Teves, who was proclaimed governor Degamo filed a complaint with he Commission on Elections and because of this a recount wasconducted

Votes for a nuisance candidate named Ruel Degamo were counted as votes for Roel Degamo and he was declared the winner of the recount while Teves announcement was overturned Degamo took the oath of office as governor on October 5, 2022, while his challenger Teves resigned voluntarily onOctober11,2022

Indeed Degamo has quite a political background which leads us to believe that his death was because of political reasons There are quite a few suspectswhocouldbethemastermindbehindthisoperation Still, sofar, the task force said in complete certainty that Negros Oriental Rep Arnolfo “ Arnie TevesJr wasamongthemastermindsbehindthisoperation

Of course, the lawmaker denied being involved in the murder of his political adversary yet still hasnʼt returned to the nation If anything that rousesupsuspicionevenmore JusticeSecretaryJesusCrispinRemullasaidit was “reasonable to say” that he funded the hit men and the firearms used in thebrazenkilling

Another one of the suspects behind the Degamo Slay case is Teves Jrʼs longtime security and bodyguard, Marvin Miranda Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said that Miranda received instructions from Teves Jr whom he called Boss Idol, Big Boss, and Kalbo It was later found out that Miranda, arrested on March 31, had recruited the 11 former soldiers who carried out theassassinationplot

When this news was announced Degamos wife Janice the mayor of Pamplona town in Negros Oriental, was not shocked in any way She stated thatsheexpectedtheassailantstocomecleanandidentifyTevesastheboss whoorderedthehitonherhusband

“Thereisnoonesodesperatetoeliminatethegovernorotherthanthem (Teveses) Soitʼsnotreallyasurpriseforus”Sheadded

She further mentioned that the representatives brother Pyrde Henry should also be arrested as she suspects he was part of the plan to kill her husband, thegovernor

He added that the grieving family of the victims of the Pamplona massacre and other Negros Oriental killings, as well as Degamo's wife, Mayor JaniceDegamo willalsobecalledtotheSenateinvestigation

The panel will also obtain permission from the judge to summon the suspectswhohavebeendetained, includingMarvinMiranda

Theinvestigationisongoing butthetruthwillsooncometolight There is not much we can do besides praying for the families and souls affected by this gruesome tragedy Life is valuable because you only get one shot at living May this case be a lesson to all that no crime shall be left unpunished and that the truth will always come out one way or another Everyone will tastetheirkarmaintheend

ThefactthatonlyinthePhilippinesdidUrsula'stentaclesspreadink, bringingtheevil experiencetolife,mayhavesomethingtodowiththefactthatthelive-actionadaptation of "The Little Mermaid" was released worldwide in the same year. Fairytales, in reality, are onlyfoundinbooksandmotionpictures.WhatoccurredinOrientalMindoroonFebruary28 had a negative impact on the local populace and their way of life. The destruction that resultedfromit.

On February 28 the MT Princess Empress a tanker carrying 800000 gallons of industrial fuel oil capsized south of Manila off the island of Mindoro Seafood is unhealthy to eat since there is a high likelihood that marine life will be injured The oil spill, in a general sense, not only added to global pollution but also temporarily damaged those who work at sea and their ability to support themselves through food and financial aid As a result, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) began its simultaneous payout activities for the Cash-for-Work (CFW) program for the residents who had been affected by the oil spill Participants in the CFW program were assigned to carry out a variety of tasks, including gathering locally available materials to make improvised oil spill boom; developing barangay or backyard gardens; mangrove rehabilitation; and conducting community clean-ups In the end, this constructive give-and-take program serves the community's and the people's requirements

Between the Philippine islands of Luzon and Mindoro, the Verde Island Passage is a marine corridor with biological significance It has been impacted by the recent oil disaster The Verde Island Passage's biodiversity balance may be disrupted by the toxic components of the oil, which can harm fish, corals, shellfish, and other organisms and cause mass mortality events and longterm ecological damage As a result, the oil spill should be resolved as soon as possible to prevent further damage To protect this special and priceless maritime corridor, strict oil spill prevention measures, reliable emergency response plans, and efficient monitoring and enforcement procedures are essential

Coral reefs mangroves seagrass beds and coastal areas are just a few of the sensitive habitats that oil spills can harm severely By helping with cleanup efforts, people can lessen the damage done by the spill and help protect these habitats Oil removal helps impacted ecosystems recover and become more resilient by reducing long-term ecological effects and preventing additional contamination Local communities are significantly affected financially by oil spills, especially those that depend on fishing, tourism, and coastal industries Participating in cleanup efforts reduces the financial damages brought on by the spill People may aid in the restoration of coastal environments, which is essential for boosting tourism, protecting fisheries, and sustaining the livelihoods of those who depend on these businesses, by removing oil from impacted shorelines and waters People may significantly reduce the harm caused by oil spills, safeguard ecosystems and wildlife, and promote the well-being of impacted communities by actively participating in cleanup activities

Living in harmony promotes social cohesiveness and a sense of community among people, which also takes place in the CFW program Programs that foster unity help communities be more resilient and strong overall Individuals may collaboratively address social problems, cooperate toward shared objectives, and effect positive change when they come together and live in harmony United communities have a greater capacity to respond to crises and emergencies and are better prepared to solve social economic and environmental concerns

Security is restricted to those engaged in maritime operations as opposed to times when tragedy has not struck In order to establish a sustainable environment even if it is only temporary, the new program provides security to the program Protecting the lives and physical well-being of individuals and communities requires security measures Security measures, such as detecting and addressing vulnerabilities in physical locations, try to prevent and detect potential threats and dangers The security of the program fosters a setting that is favorable to people's well-being, social harmony, and economic prosperity

However, there's a chance the show will turn out to be underwhelming, especially given all the things that could go wrong A program that provides temporary income or livelihood support can help stabilize their financial situation during these trying times, ensuring they can meet their basic needs and support their families But many people and communities, especially those who rely on fishing as their main source of income, face this disaster without any clear resolution The program assists in easing their financial troubles, preventing them from delving further into poverty and enhancing their general well-being by offering them short-term financial support Temporary income or livelihood programs can provide more than just financial support; they can be created to empower people by giving them access to training, opportunities for capacity building, and skill development By giving fishermen new knowledge and skills the CFW program helps to improve participants' employability increase their range of available employment options and foster long-term self-sufficiency

Those who are severely affected by the crisis with which they are suddenly faced and which is an unforeseen circumstance greatly benefit from the Cash-for-Work program In all honesty, having this kind of program available to the public allows individuals to continue living their life normally in spite of a problem It gave them a little something to help them get back on their feet and also assisted them in figuring out how to boost their economy Barack Obama has said “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something Donʼt wait for good things to happen to you If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope” The people, with their love and unwavering tenacity, made good things happen for them, and hope has never been this bright

Even though salt is a natural advantage and is essential to the Philippines, in the year 2023, the industry starts to face numerous problems and challenges, such as the competition from imported salt from different countries, the lack of innovation and technology, the ongoing pandemic, as well as the diminution of local production How can people sustain the vitality, process, and production of salt? How will they develop a more enhanced salt industry? The significance of salt and its sector should never be disregarded; hence, it should constantly be enriched and acknowledged because it helps everyoneʼs health and produces various products and materials

According to CNN Philippines (2023), The Philippine Salt Industry Development Act (PSIDA) is a bill that seeks to create a comprehensive development plan to revitalize the Philippine salt industry The House of Representatives has approved this bill on its third and final reading The implementation and approval of PSIDA is the path to a brighter and more innovative salt industry The Department of Agriculture in the Philippines is also assigned the measurement that the produced local salt is always the countryʼs top priority

Through the years, researchers have found that the Philippines can import around 550,000 metric tons of salt, equivalent to 93 percent of the nationʼs salt requirement When produced and increased appropriately, salt can be someoneʼs source of income and livelihood

Salt is vital to everyone! Proper investments, improvements, and planned developments for the Philippine salt industry can lead to a wealthier and better economy The effectuation of different programs from the Philippines, such as the “Oplan Asin: Pasiglahin, Sariling Ating Asin!” also known as the Development of Salt Industry Project (DSIP), and the Philippine Salt Industry Development Bill can lead to a persons prosperity and liveliness The Oplan Asin that began in 2022 aims to increase and improve Philippine quality salt production It is also designed to narrow every gap within its industry and commodity production The program of salt iodization, or the Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide (ASIN LAW), was approved in 1995 by former Philippine President Fidel V Ramos The Philippine Salt Industry Development Bill aims to improve government strategies to fully boost local salt production Salt producers also say it can shield the country from global supply chain vulnerabilities

Truly, salt is more than a great value These are but a few of the many programs implemented and currently effectuating in the Philippines Salt will forever be a need by everyone, but it is only limited, so we should protect and manage it deliberately Salt is an all-rounder substance that adds flavors to food and is used to make materials Salt together with other substances is equally vital The salt industry is a livelihood to many; this industry shall be appreciated not ignored Improvement starts now; cherish each pinch of salt and of course its ambition

We scroll and browse the internet as the primary use to attain many of our necessities As far as I can see, this era gives us many opportunities, education, and experiences online that may affect our real lives. However, despite being in this era, have we ever asked ourselves if everyone has access to this opportunity? Can every man and woman use technology? Little did we know, an underlying issue leaves a compelling gap in utilizing technology and even in genderequality

During one of the meetings of the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo highlighted the Philippine government's initiatives to address the digital gender gap

The real world has always been evident in gender inequality, and this is now being mirrored in the digital dimension Digital Gender Gap refers to the large gap and difference between women's and girlsʼ compared to men's and boys' access to technology and the internet It states that many areas in the world exist where women and girls no longer have access to technology Boys are more involved in technology than girls, and they are more likely to surf the internet

In addition, once poverty is mentioned, this gap widens as more poor women and poor girls cant engage online And in efforts to bridge this gap, Lamentillo stated that Philippine laws such as the Magna Carta of Women, Anti-Discrimination Against Women Act, Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Law, and Safe Spaces Act, among others, create an enabling environment where Women and Girlsʼ rights and safety are promoted and protected to allow them to achieve their full potential Every citizen needs to be acquainted with these laws; how else will the issue be solved? Once the law is established, women and girls may be protected, and justice may be served, but can these laws give them the right technology they deserve?

Furthermore, this pandemic turned many services, productions, information, and experiences that were all physically accessible online, and this somewhat became our new regular We thought that during this pandemic, life had become more straightforward for us because we could easily buy both material and immaterial goods online We didn't realize that gender inequality is lingering in society, plus the pandemic results in the digital gender gap worsening

A CLOVE OF GARLIC: THE NOT-SO-SHOCKING PRICE

Astheworldturneddarkduetotheinfamouspandemic, itcausedthousandsofdamage to people, their expenses, the days that should be normal, and the progress that leads to great outcomes, just what happened to a clove of garlic Many people cried because of the price, and they made condolences to themselves that a clove of garlic would part ways with them in the meantime. What made this drama happen for months? I embark that this is a journey betweenacloveofgarlicandthecommunity

A clove of garlic can accumulate many concepts purely for cooking and health benefits This piece, indeed, is one-of-a-kind, it may taste great, or it may taste an unexplainable texture for a mouth to savor Though there are many opinions about how garlic tastes, it is now one of the ingredients in the Philippines that costs higher than the usual prices sold in the markets due to inflation

According to the Department of Agriculture, the pieces of garlic rose because of their limited availability It produces the not usual amount of garlic; it becomes worse than before and has an unsteady phase of production since many demands are happening right now since garlic was used during the holidays

Remember, before garlic happened to be the one that cost highly, onions happened Itʼs where the phenomena started and everyone canʼt get over the fact that many canʼt buy onions since they may not be in peopleʼs budget when the pandemic is still in outrage They think it is more practical and convenient if they will use fewer ingredients in their food During those times, garlic was used in everything though onions should be more present And now, garlic is the problem; what did people do? They accepted fate, they donʼt care about how much garlic prices are, and they just buy it casually since today is an era of inflation

the Gap Bridge

Amidst the rapid advancements in technology and the internet, the digital gender gap still shows women being underrepresented and slowly becoming discouraged from pursuing digital-related circumstances Women are being denied equal access to many opportunities because of this gap such as having the mindset that girls arenʼt as well-versed in technological concepts than boys often leading to mishaps that may occur whenever the topic of livelihood comes up such as getting job opportunities or perhabs being presented as a winner of a computer-related contests Situations vary and women can only partially partake in technology and the internet's benefits

Nowadays, access to technology gives awareness and knowledge one click away The internet may offer distractions as entertainment, but this does not hinder the fact that it can still be a positive resource for everyone's necessities Hence, women and girls who cannot access this struggle with even the simplest of problems They need help to catch up with what's happening around the world They need more education and information Simply put, their knowledge is limited compared to those with access to technology and the internet

In regards to this, Jeanna Ricci M Melo, a student from 8-Counsel, said that “Some people think that men are better than women, Women have been facing these kinds of obstacles for so long, and Digital Gender Gap is just one of the many challenges that need to be faced thatʼs why we need to bridge this gap for equality, and I know that us women are all determined to find a way to do so”

Moreover, the digital gender gap is a pressing issue that needs to be resolved as another step toward gender equality We must acknowledge that this issue is more severe than we initially believed, particularly in line with the current pandemic I am talking about many women and girls needing more education, information, entertainment, and opportunities in the digital world Their inability to access technology also acts as a barrier to proper development and economic growth We need to prioritize gender equality and digital involvement for all Once we bridge this gap through improved access, education, and opportunities and empower women and girls in this digital era, this will lead to a brighter and more inclusive society for all

Inflation made a clove of garlic in despair, especially its calling for demands One of the factors also is because of the climate the Philippines has been giving to agriculture The climate here undoubtedly changes in an unforeseen manner It disrupts the activities that are supposed to be given to agricultural production, mainly the garlic itself Last 2022, people preferred to buy garlic imported in the amount of P80 per kilo rather than purchasing a P300 per kilo harvested locally This somehow affects the nations economy since instead of making it a more profitable case for vendors, it weighed down, making it less valuable for consumers

One of the worst scenarios that happened last 2022 is that demands are more than half of what is being supplied in the market In The data of the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), the Philippines profoundly catered garlic from the ones that were being imported in Quarter 1; the total demand was 37,331 The supply was only 27,921 from both the local source and the imported ones This somehow concerns the welfare of agricultural production here in the Philippines, knowing they depend more on what is being imported

On a more negative side local farmers stopped producing local garlic since cheaper garlic can be found in other countries mainly China which is known for being rich in growing fruits and vegetables This has been a dilemma for the agricultural sector since it downgrades the farmers' well-being and needs to be addressed in markets

The government ought to concentrate on finding solutions to the problem of the price of garlic that made people explode Regular economic monitoring and demand suppression for the agricultural industry are required

Every farmer should be respected, and we should give them justice for their hard work to have a clove of garlic in our kitchen A clove of garlic is an effort made by farmers; it is their delicate response to people to enjoy the food and use it for health Regardless of how pricey garlic gets, we should consider what farmers would feel if their harvested garlic is neglected We should be grateful that they still produce garlic amid the pandemic and inflation

Our food will be meaningless if garlic is not on the recipe list; we should know that this is one of the additional ingredients It is the first ingredient in a pan to add flavor and aroma, just for the other ingredients to grab the opportunity to combine their distinct flavor with garlic Though the price of garlic rises to the sky, we should still give justice to it and appreciate the taste, regardless of how people value a clove of garlic Thatʼs how a clove of garlic became a protagonist for months and today it is peacefully sold at markets Would you try one so that you know what its given value is?

Navarro, 10- Nationalism

For me, the higher unemployment rate here in the Philippines is saddening since it means that families will have less income and it will lead to rise in poverty

It is quite bothersome that the statistics of underemployed and unemployed are increasing and expected to grow due to artificial intelligence taking over jobs being done by humans and is currently already being introduced I am more concerned especially for the younger Filipinos because it would be a tougher competition to obtain a job

Unfortunately, aside from continuous rise in unemployment the quality of education is declining thereby reducing the competitiveness of Filipino graduates globally The government need to address this by attracting investors and also supporting enterprising Filipino entrepreneurs and at the same time deve op agriculture ensuring food security This will greatly assist the future generation in abating the impact of unemployment

The increase in unemployment in the Philippines, I think, is caused primarily because of the sluggish economic growth

There are very few investments in the country that would help create jobs

Likewise, lack of skills and technological advancement create unemployment

High unemployment rates affect Filipinos in terms of their income Many people struggle in finding jobs because of their high standards in hiring, and this leads to a lack of budget for everyday life I hope companies, big and small, can give opportunities to many people

from 8- Knowledge

This issue is highly distressing since it renders the Philippines to be prone to poverty, which may be caused by lack of education Our government should hold more job fairs and interviews, and the qualifications should be lowered Companies should accept inexperienced workers and give them a chance because doing so may allow them to realize their full potential Higher unemployment rates could dampen aspirations for a stronger and larger national economy Filipinos will be impacted; many will migrate and intend to work abroad The technology that exists now gives our fellow humans fewer opportunities to complete tasks and is a sign that manpower is gradually being used less and less, which can also be a reason for this As I ponder through the streets, even around the school premises, there are a lot of unfortunates; therefore, the ability to provide for oneself or our families is drastically affected The little prospects and chances offered to fellow Filipinos are quite upsetting Mark Denver V Balse, 9 -

Every 6 years the country's newsandmediaoutletsbecomefloodedbydifferentpoliticalcoloursasthefaranticipatedelections happen again Just to take you to a trip down the memory lane, the Philippines once turned red, literally as the lives of its countrymen consisting of activists, journalists men, women, children, and more were taken for granted as the implementation of the Martial Law abused their human rights with unjust, inhumane, and vile procedures, all of this, under the 10th president of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos But soon enough it was too much to bare as thousands of people lay lifeless due to the excessive violation of human rights On the 22nd of February year 1986 Millions of Filipinos marched down Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue carrying the memories of all the lives lost, as they fought for democracy, and finally ousted Marcos This led to the accession of the countrys First female president Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, who played a big role in restoring autonomy and freedom of speech Demolishing the dictatorial system structured by the previous administration, Cory established a Bicameral congress, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives Together these two chambers worked to create laws establishing a new regime far from the brutal and bloody years behind During her time as president she encountered countless obstacles but her intelligence andperseverancehelpedovercomeeverything Still, goodthingsmustcometoanend YearsafterherdemotionasPresidentofthe Philippines, Cory was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2008 and died on August 1, 2009 She was regarded as the Mother of Democracy, proving that, as I quote, there is much more that women can bring into politics that would make our world a kinder, gentlerplaceforhumanitytothrivein

t is common knowledge that the season of love may make most people, especially those who arenʼt lucky in love, be bitter towards those who possess a successful love life But, did you know that there's another way to share your love with others?

In the modern world today, love can be interpreted in many different ways For St Bridget College Batangasʼ TLE Department, a way to spread love is through oneʼs sharing of skills and cultivating them in order to be of service to others, as shown in this school yearʼs Season 2 of TLElympics With the theme: “LOVElihood Skills On Fire This Love Month”, love is truly in the air as they concluded the second season of TLElympics with the Parent and Child Demonstration activity, led by Sheena Bernadette S Cadunggan, a student from 10-Obedience, and her mother Mrs Evelinda S Cadunggan, on the 28th day of February, 2023

In the activity, the mother-daughter duo performed a demonstration on the process of making traditional Filipino delicacies, such as puto and sugar coated nuts, which are local treats that never fail to satisfy the sweet tooth of most Filipinos, no matter the occasion This was participated in by the women coming from various barangays, specifically from Brgy Wawa, Brgy Calicanto, Brgy Uno, and Brgy Dos Along with them, as well, were the teachers from the TLE department, as facilitators to commemorate the culminating activity

Now, the season of love isn't all just about romance Itʼs all about the actions that can be of positive impact to those around you and even to oneself The TLE Department then proves to us that, even if it's not the season of Valentine, true love can be felt through oneʼs sharing of skills with the purpose of caring for and benefiting others not only emotionally, but also mentally and physically

Aside from regulating red-category foods, the school also observes differences in schedules Some grade levels have a different recess schedule to help minimize the number of students occupying the canteen, which can helpavoid

Operation: Welcoming Biofertilizers!

After a year under the Marcos administration, the Philippines has been experiencing changes, especially in upgrading and modernizing the agricultural process here in the Philippines, prioritizing the budget and the cost-effectiveness of the products needed for improving the agriculture sector One of these changes includes promoting biofertilizers to be used by local farmers.

The leading purpose of biofertilizers is to lessen the countryʼs dependence on expensive and imported petroleum-based fertilizers Also, it is a reasonable price for local farmers to use as the pandemic bruises farmers with more expensive farming materials such as pesticides and fertilizers

Currently, the Department of Agriculture conducts trials on biofertilizers in the Philippines President Marcos stated that these biofertilizers brought promising results from all the conducted trials The possibility of producing these is high, especially with the technologies from UPLB (University of the Philippines Los Banos) the other SUCs (state universities and colleges), and agricultural colleges

Yes to Biofertilizers

Biofertilizers are live or dormant cells with microorganisms that are applied to soil, seeds, or seedlings to increase the availability and uptake of nutrients from the ground They make the soil more fertile and encourage plant development

Among the benefits of biofertilizers are their low cost, high-quality provision of micronutrients and micro-compounds, provision of organic matter, production of growth hormones, and ability to mitigate the drawbacks of chemical fertilizers Biofertilizers eliminate the toxic elements in the soil that lead to plant illnesses Biofertilizers shield plants against drought and other harsh situations

A comparison between biofertilizers and petroleum-based fertilizers, which the Philippines has been using shows that chemical fertilizers degrade the soil and lowers crop yield On the other hand, biofertilizers supply essential nutrients like nitrogen, vitamins, and proteins to the ground and increase their capacity to retain water

Dementia with Lewy Bodies exhibits GutBacterialGrowth

Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is a disease thatcan develop on its own oralongwithother brain illnesses. Its symptoms are frequently mistaken for thosefoundinotherbraindiseasesorpsychiatricdisorders.

Given that it is a progressive disease, symptoms appear gradually and worsen over time Just recently, three intestinal bacteria were found in DLB by a group of researchers from Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine (NUSM) in Japan Their findings offer new approachesforbothdiagnosisandtherapy

The research was led by Assocate Professor Masaaki Hirayama (Omics Medicine) Professor Kinji Ohno (Neurogenetics) and Assistant Professor Hiroshi Nishiwaki (Neurogenetics) of Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine, in colaboration with Okayama Neurology Clinic, Iwate Medical University, and Fukuoka University The researchersexaminedthegutmicrobiotaandfecalbleacidsof 278patientswithapha-synucleinopathies(neurodegeneration caused by alpha-synuclein protein buidup) The group consstedof28patientswithDLB 193withParkinsonsDisease (PD) 31 with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) and 26 with idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior dsorder (iRBD) They discovered that three intestina bacteria Collnsella Ruminococcus and Bifidobacterium were associatedwithpatientswithDLB

Lewy bodies have been linked to various neurodegenerativedisorders, which ncludeParlinsonsDisease a brain disorder that causes unntended or uncontrolable movements and iRBD a condition characterzed by nightmares and dream-enacting behaviors Therefore physicians struggle to anticipate which PD patients will develop cognitve decline and become DLB patients within a year, sotheycanonlyhopetobeabletotreatthemproactively

IfapatientwithParkinsonsdiseasedevelopsdementiain one year after the onset of motor symptoms they are diagnosed with DLB explained NUSM Professor of Neurogenetics Kinj Ohno in a press release However we cannot currenty predict whether a patent with Parkinsonʼs disease will become a DLB patent The gut microbiome will helptoidentifysuchpatients”

Using a series of different analyses, the team examined each groups taxonomic dfferences along with the overall gut microbotacompositionacross18generaandfivefamilies DLB patients had a substantial drop in seven genera Decreases in SCFA-producing bacteria have been repeatedly reported in Parkinson'sdisease Alzheimersdisease andALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)” explained Ohno “This suggests that it is a common feature of neurodegenerative dseases” (SCFAs are saturated aliphatic organic acids hey produce regulatory T cells a type of whte blood cell called lymphocytes whch playacrucialrole nimmunesystemregulationbysuppressing neuroinflammation) explained Ohno This suggests that it is a commonfeatureofneurodegeneratvediseases

A Good Reputation

Biofertilizersʼ positive effects on plants have been promoted over the past years, even though the Philippines is highly dependent on other countries for fertilizers One example is the bioN biofertilizer produced by Dr Mercedes Umali-Garcia of UPLB-BIOTECH almost 40 years ago

Farmers of rice corn and vegetables have benefited from BioN's ability to improve productivity while preserving the health of the soil It strengthens the plantʼs roots, increases nutrient uptake, confers resistance to pests and diseases, and improves soil conditions Users of BioN claim higher grain quality and higher yields Utilizing BioN lowers the cost of manufacturing

The Marcos Administration plans to expand biofertilizers in the country as well as the knowledge of local farmers about biofertilizers, like BioN Teaching local farmers would be their utmost priority, other than biofertilizer itself

“I believe that fertilizer is essential for plants to develop optimally and for the agriculture industry, so as a student that has seen the dangers of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, especially to the environment, I am looking forward to this kind of fertilizer because we can utilize this fertilizer to benefit more from agriculture while also protecting our environment from the adverse impacts of chemical fertilizers,” Angelie C Sarmiento, a student of 10 - Obedience commented

No To Scams

Though the biofertilizer is in the works, some opposed it and found a loophole in the newest Department of Agriculture Memorandum Order The agricultural group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) laid out facts showing that this would turn into another fertilizer scam

One fact found is that Memorandum Order No 32 states that inorganic fertilizers do not cost the amount the MO claims SINAG chairperson Rosendo So also noted that the use of biofertilizers is yet to be proven to result in higher yield and cost efficiency

“We are worried that another scandal that could approximate the fertilizer scam of the previous years may resurface, he added

To explain the controversial Memorandum Order No 32, Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian clarifies that the said MO was created in April when the prices of fertilizers were high He reassured everyone that no fertilizer scam is happening in MO 32, meaning Operation: Welcome Biofertilizers is back on track

Volcanoes have always been an unstoppable force, dormant or active, they leave their effects in various areas of our planet. Volcanic eruptions remind us of their unpredictability and breathtaking power So to speak, the volcano of Tonga shook the world and became a global spectacle because of its recent eruption Tonga Volcano surpasses scientists' expectations as it savagely erupts, making it one of the largest atmospheric eruptions in history and triggering global tsunamis, January 15, 2022

Submarine volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai is part of the Tongan archipelago in the southern Pacific Ocean, 65 kilometers north of Tongatapu, the country's main island It lies around 100 km above a seismically active region and is part of the highly active KermadecTonga Subduction zone Since the base of this volcano sits on the seafloor, it is nearly entirely submerged apart from two small volcanic islands, Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha'apai Its base has a diameter of about 20 kilometers and rises about 2,000 meters to the surface

Tonga Volcano's eruption began in December 2021 but reached an immense and powerful climax nearly four weeks later with a warning of aftershocks for the following several days This eruption is the largest recorded since the last century, surpassing the 1991 eruption at Mt Pinatubo and NASA confirmed that it was also a hundred times more powerful than the Hiroshima Bombing

It exploded about 2 3 cubic miles of rock and ashfall that covered an area of at least five square kilometers According to BBC Science Correspondent Jonathan Amos, it displaced some ten cubic km of rock, ash, and sediment, much of it exiting through the volcano's mouth, or caldera to shoot straight up into the sky like a "shotgun blast" as one geologist called it The pinnacle of its eruption released a booming blast so loud that it was heard in Alaska, 6,000 miles away

Furthermore, "This volcano even exceeded our maximum expectations about how far the effects of this eruption were on the seafloor " NIWA Marine Geologist Dr Kevin MacKay said "The more we study it, the bigger the event becomes " He added What made Tonga Volcano's eruption surpass scientists' expectations as well is that the damage and effects of this devastation across the planet remain a mystery

How Tonga Volcano was felt around the world is that its monstrous eruption created damaging tsunamis wherein five continents felt its waves and power The deviating high waves coming from this have reached the shores of New Zealand, Japan, The United States, The far east of Russia, Chile, and Peru Many of these countries are under a tsunami alert for the whole weekend, their ports and shores are flooded with waves, and their boats are harmed and damaged

Moreover the destruction caused by this explosion leaves a lasting impact on us and our environment The best we can do is to become aware and prepare to face these crisis events According to Jeanna Ricci M Melo from 8-Counsel "Certain ways to be prepared in these certain events are always being updated on the daily news, having extra consumable foods like canned goods and obtaining knowledge on our nearest evacuation centers " Although recovery and rebuilding of the harm caused by the eruption might take some time, we must pursue and do our best regardless

Lessons learned; we shouldn't underestimate the power mother nature holds Tonga Volcano's eruption alone has left scientists stunned with its power and extended damages across the world, leaving its mark

The Sun Increases its Activity, Formulating HumanitytoContemplate

As the sun gets vigorous and disrupts the activities found in the Milky Way, this leads to unreasonable doubt and the threat that Earth may experience in the coming days

After almost a decade of relative calm, the sun enters its peak activity that experts say will last for several years

The sun is going through what is called the “solar maximums ” A time in which the sun increases its activity, causing more sunspots, solar storms, and bursts of energy These events occur roughly every 11 years and have never presented a threat However, the recent spike in reliance on electronic and communication devices has led scientists to believe that this time, people may be more vulnerable to the effects of such activity More so it causes its polarity and magnetic fields to become unstable which results in solar maximums

The sun has been undergoing convection The plasma within the sun gets heated, expands, and rises, while the cooler and less dense plasma on top sinks down This never-ending cycle is what causes the sun to exhibit strong magnetic fields

As the magnetic fields remain unstable, the sun exhibits more sunspots and solar storms Because of their instability, some magnetic fields clash with one another and explode, causing bursts of energy to be discharged into space

With the significant changes in the sun's activity, communications through radio, GPS, and other devices are sure to be affected A recent study on flight records has found that during the last 22 years, airplanes were 21% more likely to be delayed by at least half an hour because of the sun's increased activity

According to Mathew Owens, a professor of space physics at the University of Reading, “Space weather can ground flights” because the Federal Aviation Administration wonʼt allow flights to go through without satellite and radio communications

If it continues to disrupt the Earth's Ionosphere possible power outages may occur leading to no electricity, no medical services, and many more that will pose a threat to humanity itself

One of the sunʼs unusual activities I find concerning is the coronal mass ejection, an eruption of solar material from the sunʼs corona, this ejection can reach planets and strip their atmospheres of elements that are essential for living organisms, especially for a Planet like Earth wherein if to be hit by one, significant loss of telephone systems, GPS tracking, Transportation and even food/medication could cause a massive cause for chaos for Mother Nature and the life here on Earth,” expressed Dwight Dichoso, Grade 10Obedience

ARevivedHiddenZombieVirusinPermafrost:Isthereapossibilitythat ahumancangetinfectedbyit?

But wait a minute, before you panic, run, and hide for a zombie apocalypse that you think may happen, you must first recognize that this is a different type of zombie virus It is not the kind of zombie you see in movies or TV shows where you must run from them to survive It is not known to be a zombie virus because an individual will turn into one, but rather, it is a zombie virus because it came back to life even though 48,500 years have passed

Permafrost, defined as a permanently frozen layer of soil that can preserve life on Earth, both dead and alive, was found to contain the 13 characterized pathogens, or harmful microorganisms, in Siberia, where they termed them zombie viruses Withal researchers have found that these viruses remained infectious despite spending many millennia trapped in the frozen ground Here, as mentioned these viruses were dormant for about 48 500 years In this current study Jean-Michel Claverie the lead researcher and a French researcher and his team were the ones who revived the said virus and thus continued studying and hunting these viruses

The continuous temperature rise causes the permafrost to melt at a faster rate As a result, its risk and threat increased Hence, Claverie said that the viruses observed here only infect singlecelled amoebae So it isn't as dangerous compared to the existing viruses, such as COVID, that can lead to a pandemic The researchers focused on amoeba-infecting viruses because amoebae make good model organisms, which would also lessen the risk of accidental spillover for the scientists The researchers mentioned then that they are using [the amoeba's] billion years of evolutionary distance from humans and other mammals as the best possible protection However, scientists are concerned, too, that those frozen viruses and microorganisms can pose risks to humans and animals On top of that, they warned that their findings possibly be extrapolated to prove that the possibility exists but that the potential revival of a virus that could infect humans or animals would be considerably more problematic

Highlighted by Adrian Liston, Ph D , though not involved in the research conducted, is an immunologist and senior group leader at the Babraham Institute, a life sciences research institute at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, perhaps, the emergence of zombie viruses will serve as a reminder of all of the ever-increasing effects that climate change will have on our lives and the planet soon The point here is climate change is not just about the changes brought by the weather patterns It could also lead to new infections, including the said virus Start being responsible now, before the virus gets you

Hence, quoting the additional thought from Ms Eunice A Panganiban (Grade 12-HUMSS 2 Sr Mary Elizabeth O'dowd) and sharing her approach to this, she has conscientiously said that, "Weird and scary it is! There could be a "zombie" virus that can literally kill us all and it's because of climate change? Can't imagine how tables can turn in time The said issue really made an impact on me Reading the article made me realize 2 things; our actions really have consequences along with it and that researchers & researches are diamonds to treasure in this life This reminds me to be more mindful in everything that I do On the other hand climate change is a serious matter to discuss and take action Just in time to say we should all take action Not just me nor you but us Next researchers and researches as an aspiring nurse this serves as my motivation to be one and take part in doing medical researches just like what Jean-Michel Claverie does Also it's now that I understand how researches are important in our lives Not just to make our life easier but more of to let us "live more of the life that we have With that, this Zombie Virus article is indeed an eyeopener that people must have read!"

ChatGPT was launched on Nov 30, 2022, but has only recently grown in popularity It was created by an AI and research company named OpenAI, who is also responsible for the creation of DALL-E-2, a popular AI art generator, and Whisper, an automatic speech recognition system

How Can We Access It?

You can use ChatGPT on your Android or iPhone devices with a web browser To do this, you must simply visit chat openai com and create an OpenAI account Once you sign in, you can just start chatting away with the chatbot by asking questions

But ChatGPT isnʼt limited to only your laptops and phones, you can also directly use it on your Apple Watch With the use of Petey, an AI assistant available on the App Store for Apple Watch, youʼll be able to use ChatGPT with no problem This app costs $4 99 for a one-time purchase and uses the ChatGPT API to generate and instantly distribute responses directly from your wrist, without the need for your iPhone or Laptop Because of the natural language model, it is frequently more dependable than Siri, which will frequently try to offer you a link to Wikipedia

Is It Really That Big Of A Deal?

Itʼs no secret that this AI chatbot has been causing quite a stir amongst the crowd, with its popularity growing more and more each passing day as more people come to know of its existence But how big of a deal is it exactly?

Evolution is no foreign topic when it comes to the development of society Since the dawn of time, man has always been finding ways to make their lifestyle easier and more comfortable to endure From creating weapons to make hunting less of a hassle to building machines to do the heavy lifting for them, man has always found ways in order to push society into improvement

Indeed, there have been many great accomplishments and breakthroughs made throughout the years to simply make life smooth sailing but recently, there has been some uproar about an AI chatbot that seemingly writes all kinds of mediums with only a few simple instructions Whatʼs it called you ask? Well, itʼs ChatGPT

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

With its rising popularity, it would be foolish to think that ChatGPT wouldn t have reached students by now And while it is true that ChatGPT can provide a great assistance and be a source of entertainment for many, it must also be brought to light how some students take advantage of this AI chatbot to write their essays and finish their school work to pass with flying colors

“It's cheating and I don't want to be involved with that part of the situation I can understand students using it when it's only for projects in high school but for students who actually need this for their futures and jobs need to straighten up “ said Randell Alon, from 10 - Perseverance

“There are some however who use it for paraphrasing only and I can get behind that “ He added

However when asked about his thoughts on the AI itself, he stated that “ I have used ChatGPT and my honest opinion on it is that it's very impressive I could already tell that it has a massive database and a lot of programming to make it work like how it works “

He went on to say that “I've had good conversations with AI and from what I've seen from other people and social media, it can spit out A LOT of high quality texts

So while it is true that ChatGPT can work wonders for the development of society and help ease the everyday struggles of man, it should be remembered that this asset should not be abused Not everything in life can be handed to you on a silver platter and if it were, then what would happen to the members of society?

get from their failures if this happens There is a danger that comes with relying too much on AI rather than living life for yourself Which is why it must be kept in the back of our minds that with great power, comes great responsibility, because without this discipline, our society might as well fall instead of rise to greatness

Work, school, and personal activities suffer from migraine affect to function at oneʼs best when living because of what they are feeling They can be affected mentally and physically which may cause on how they socialize and communicate with others especially when they are experiencing chronic migraine or long-lasting episodes of headaches and migraines This matter is something to be addressed to provide support for those who suffer from migraines

According to the American Migraine Foundation nasal sprays are great options for rapid delivery of medications to reduce pain and inflammation since when taking oral medicines they may experience nausea or vomiting that makes oral medication less effective Since the nasal cavity has blood vessels, the medication enters a person's bloodstream more directly and the digestive system would not be affected anymore Clinical trials conducted by Lancet Neurology have shown that nasal sprays can alleviate pain within 15-30 minutes and can provide relief for up to 48 hours

In March 2023, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Zavegepant which will be sold under the brand name Zavzpret This is the first and only calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist or gepant, which means it is quickly absorbed through the nose, bypassing the stomach altogether Pfizer, the manufacturer, has stated that Zavzpret Is effective for both acute and preventive treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults This nasal spray is also a viable option for those who have heart disease or other conditions that prevent them from being able to safely use other kinds of migraine treatments As per the study conducted the said spray can relieve pain as early as 15 minutes also the nasal spray is said to be more effective in relieving pain within two hours compared with another nasal spray that does not have any active ingredient The US FDA approval was based on two pivotal randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, it was defined as a reduction of moderate or severe headache pain to no headache pain

Zavzpret has proven to be effective and well-tolerated and offers a unique administration method in clinical trials Renowed physician Richard B Lliptop MD who oversaw the phase 3 study believes that this nasal spray has the potential to address a significant gap in migraine treatment options While some trial participants experienced mild side effects such as temporary dysgeusia, rashes, and nasal discomfort, these do not cause concern and occur in only a small percentage of users As such, Zavzpret is only available through a doctorʼs prescription

People never the they In fact, Elon Musk, one of the former founders of OpenAI, said that “ChatGPT is scary good We are not far from dangerously strong AI” Adding to that, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated on Twitter that ChatGPT had over 1 million users in the first five days of its launch

A50 million sports complex will be built by San Miguel Corporation in Balayan, Batangas as part of its pledge to support the growth of local athletes who can compete in regional and international sporting events and to advance health and well-being in the community and the province.

A SWIFT LEAD

DʼNavigatorsIloiloestablishestheir dominance by winning 3 straight sets in the semifinals against AMC Cotabato at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on March 22 after losing the preliminariestothematthePacoArena 3 days prior. During the semifinals, Iloilo kept a consistent lead through all 3 sets, teasing the enemy with shortlived point advantages only to take it backjustminutesafter.

The DʼNavigators went the aggressive route, earning most of the points in Set 1 via spikes and serves They took the gameʼs first point to show their burning desire for victory and closed out the first set with a comfortable 25-19.

To Iloiloʼs dismay, the AMC Spikers picked up the pace in Set 2 by not only scoring the first three points, but by also maintaining their lead for most of the set Fortunately, the DʼNavigators navigated their way through the match and found a weak point to Nursidiikʼs impenetrable blocks and Disquitadoʼs earth-shattering spikes handing them the win with a close 25-22

A sense of deja vu hits in Set 3 as AMC, once again, takes another early lead for a decent chunk of the match before the DʼNavigators fully adapted to the enemy's

tactics and snatched the advantage for themselves. Even with that, the two teams were still neck and neck in the scoreboard until Nursidiik extinguished the rivalʼs fire with a game-ending block, satisfying Iloiloʼs thirst for retribution with a clinching score of 25-23.

“Ito kasi back to zero na ʻto eh Semis na so talagang pinag-ensayuhan namin ʻto, nag-prepare talaga kami sa game na ʻto saka siguro para sa amin din talaga ʻtong game na ʻto, binigay talaga siguro ni Lord sa amin,” said Kenneth Panes, the DʼNavigatorsʼ head coach, after the thrilling match

Iloilo's performance further cements that even when faced with a loss, you can still come out on top It really shows that one must fail often to succeed only once, and this match could serve as a great inspiration for those who choose to cease their struggle instead of persisting to success

Disquitado performed phenomenally as his teamʼs best scorer with 19 points from his spikes alone Nursidiik proved to be a wall with 17 blocks and Apolinario became a pillar of their success with his extraordinary setups

It was announced by the SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang. He was formally introduced as an adopted son of Balayan during the official opening of the Balayan municipal building and government complex

According to Ang, the province of Batangas is home to several well-known athletes Both volleyball player Alyssa Valdez and Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio are natives of San Juan and Nasugbu, respectively.

“We hope to do this in Balayan to help support the growth of your local economy and provide opportunities not just for people here, but also from all over Batangas, Ang said

Magsayo was constantly alerted about the holding by the referee At 1:18 in the frame, Magsayo's points were again deducted because of holding In the 11th round, Magsayo tried his best to counter Figueroa, but the latter was much more powerful at that point As the clock ticked, Figueroa conquered victory with scores of 117‒109 twice and 118‒108

Mark Magsayo and his manager voiced their thoughts about the competition on Fight Hub TV They questioned the score of the fight, saying they could have won "Here, tonight, was pathetic You cannot, no matter how you add it up, score rounds 4 to 12 for Brandon Figueroa you just canʼt do it," stated his manager, Sean Gibbons

Magsayo was frustrated with how wide the scores were He presumed that the referee was biased on Figueroa "I did my best I think that was a close fight for me This fight, he just punched me on the inside, but I hit him clear Thatʼs why I lost, those two deductions Weʼre the same, holding. I feel like the referee was one-sided." Magsayo assumed The mentioned referee was Thomas Taylor

While Magsayo still doubts the results, Figueroa is focused and determined to achieve his goal: to win the world title "Man, I just went out there and wanted it and took the fight right to him," said Figueroa "I can fight in every style backwards, forward, lefty, righty. It doesnʼt matter. I felt strong. I just donʼt stop. I donʼt get tired; Iʼm relentless; I came forward and I wanted the fight Yeah, whoever wants to fight me, Iʼll fight"

Next up for Figueroa is WBC Featherweight World Champion Rey Vargas "At this point, man, Iʼm just so happy, and I just canʼt wait to get in there with the best of the best and keep winning belts and keep giving fans a great show." Brandon Figueroa affirmed.
