Size does matter
Over time, all blades will start to lose their sharp edge. This will be noticeable because instead of the hair being cut cleanly, you will start to feel the blades bending the hair. This will affect the quality of your cut, and leave your client with damaged ends. If this is the case you need to send your scissors to be sharpened. How quickly a blade starts to go blunt depends on the amount of use and the quality of the scissor.
Different scissor lengths are designed to suit different cutting techniques. Longer scissor lengths of between 6” to 8” are more suited for scissorover-comb work, making it easier to cut in a straight line with less closures of the blade tips. Shorter scissors of 4.5” to 5.5” are generally more suited to cutting hair as you hold sections in your hand and for precision work. If you want a pair of blades that will last, always investigate what a pair of scissors is made from. Joewell uses either a high-grade Supreme stainless alloy or a cobalt-based alloy in the manufacture of its scissors and blades are hand-sharpened. Scissors made using a cobalt alloy will offer you far greater resistance to wear and tear than a lower-grade steel, which means they also last much longer.
