News from King’s In the Bible we read about a time when Jesus was asleep in a boat during a storm. Even the experienced fishermen in the boat feared for their lives, so we can imagine what the other disciples must have been going through! But what they failed to recognise was that, while they remained with Jesus, they would be safe. The wind and the waves were no danger to Jesus, and the storm posed no threat to the Son of God.
Many of us know the experience of feeling trapped in a storm of some kind—chaos around us, or turmoil within—or both. Jesus spoke about how much God cares for the birds of the air, and the flowers of the fields, and that every single one of us is even more precious to God. No matter what storms face, and no matter the outcome, Jesus promises to be with us in all things, through all things. Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch woman imprisoned by the Nazis during World War II. Her ‘crime’ was protecting and sheltering Jews in her home. She was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp, and she survived. She wrote about her experience:
“Once, while we were on roll call, a cruel guard kept us standing for a long, long time. Suddenly a skylark began to sing in the sky, and all the prisoners looked up to listen to that bird’s song… God sent that skylark daily for three weeks, exactly during roll call, to turn our eyes away from the cruelty of men to the ocean of His love.”

She also wrote: “In the center of a hurricane there is absolute quiet and peace. There is no safer place than in the center of the will of God… Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
