3rd Annual Screw Cancer Ride
By: Lincoln Infield
Willard started up the first ever pancreatic cancer benefit after losing his mom, Nancy Joyce Lane, to the disease in 2015. Being a rider, it was only natural to start a benefit ride to help. This year marked the 3rd Annual Ride that benefits the Nancy Joyce Lane Pancreatic Cancer Fund at Baptist Medical Center. The ride was set for July 25 out of Xtreme Wings N Things in Winston-Salem. The Poker Run registration began at 10:30am and included a raffle ticket. You could also grab up some 50/50 tickets to increase your chances of being a winner on the day. Scotty had official Screw Cancer apparel available. While you were at it you might as well buy some extra raffle tickets to take home some of the great donations from the ride sponsors. At noon the kickstands were up, and 44 bikes roared off to All Sauced Up BBQ in Mt. Airy to hang out and pull a poker hand card. The ride then proceeded to Kickers Bar & Grill in Mt. Airy who opened up just long enough to host the riders on this event. The last two stops were conveniently next door to each other, so the group parked at the Sportsman Lounge and walked to the after party at the Tilted Ladder in Pilot Mountain. Carla Merwin was the lucky winner of the poker run with 3 kings; she drew 2 of them at the last stop! Congrats Carla! On the day, the ride and merchandise sold raised around $2300. With all the stuff going on with 2020, it wasn’t as big of a turn out as it has been in the past, but after this year’s event the fund has brought in around $8,000. As soon as the fund reaches $50,000 it will become a fully registered founcotty
dation. If you didn’t make the ride this year or would like to make a donation, there is a way to donate online at the Wake Health web page. Here is a shortened website to type in, shorturl.at/mpQZ8 , or scan the QR code below with your phone. Either way, if you want to donate online please and make sure that you indicate that your gift is in Memory of Nancy Joyce Lane. Scotty said, “I want to thank everyone that came out and supported the SCREW CANCER RIDE yesterday. The weather was amazing! I truly enjoyed myself and all the love that was spread throughout the day. There really aren’t any words that I can say that would show my full gratitude, so thank you to each and every one of you!!” A big thanks to all the sponsors: Brew Beards, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Kritter Kutts, Benevolent Brotherhood, Go DJ Entertainment, Pinnacle Woodworks & Farm, Freedom Designs, Biker Trash Nation, and Xtreme Wings N Things. Plans are already being made for the 4th Annual Screw Cancer Benefit Ride. Make sure you keep an eye on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar to stay up to date!
