Mare Remm PhD, Helin Sinimets, Pirgit Rattasepp, Maia Kukner, Merlin Matvere Abstract The applied research study carried out in nursery schools of Jõgeva, Viljandi and Tartu Counties in 2012–2014 was the second enterobiasis study in nursery schools conducted by Tartu Health Care College. The present study took place within a shorter period of time and was geographically less extensive than the first study. Enterobiasis, caused by the pinworm Enterobius vermicularis, is common in Estonia. The aim of this study was to determine the enterobiasis prevalence among nursery school children, to estimate the enterobiasis related risk factors and the parents’ awareness in Jõgeva, Viljandi and Tartu Counties. Efficiency of microscopic examinations made simultaneously by different researchers was estimated by comparing mountings from the same perianal swab sample. There were 115 nursery schools involved in the study: 9 schools from Jõgeva, 10 from Viljandi and 9 from Jõgeva County. The study data included perianal swab samples taken from nursery school children, questionnaires for parents and interviews with nursery school teachers. The total number of investigated children was 957 of 109 groups in 28 nursery schools. Questionnaires, not all of them fully completed, were returned by 878 (91.7%) parents, the interviews were conducted with 107 nursery group teachers. Among 957 children involved in the study 181 (18.9%) were eneterobius positive according the perianal swab sample – 45 (17.9%) in Jõgeva, 72 (22%) in Viljandi and 64 (17%) in Tartu County. The number of infected groups was 89
