Wunya Ngulum

W

Welcome

elcome to Noosa – or in the

words of our traditional owners

the Kabi Kabi people, ‘Wunya Ngulum’. The Kabi Kabi’s rich cultural heritage is tens of thousands of years old. It is ingrained in the landscape – inseparable from the landforms, the flora and fauna, the ocean and waterways, the lakes, wetlands and rainforest. The Kabi Kabi people have always celebrated their deep-rooted connection to country through song, ceremony, story-telling and art. Discover their culture at festivals including Booin Gari on the banks of the beautiful Noosa River, Floating Land, on storyboards at the Noosa National Park entrance, and at exhibitions in our cultural centres. Natural beauty is at the heart of everything you’ll love about Noosa – the superb beaches and surf breaks, the pristine river that winds upstream to one of only two everglades

systems on Earth, hinterland villages, outdoor adventure and fresh cuisine. From the first rays of sunrise over the Noosa National Park headland to sunset behind hinterland mountain tops and into the balmy evenings, Noosa will inspire, relax, delight and entertain you with brilliant shopping, events, art, culture and family fun. Whether you’re the sit back and relax type or on the go from sun-up to way past sun-down, Noosa’s got your kind of holiday adventure covered! Learn to surf, horse ride on open beaches, mountain bike on forest tracks, abseil down a mountain or take a river cruise. At the end of the day, retreat to a luxury beachfront apartment, family-friendly river resort, lakeside cottage, country B&B, budget hostel or waterfront campground, a river houseboat or glamp under Noosa’s starry skies. We look forward to welcoming you to Noosa soon.

Restore life’s balance in Noosa, a globally recognised Biosphere Reserve

The Noosa region was recognised as Queensland’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2007 – proof that people and the environment can live harmoniously. We work together to protect everything that makes Noosa unique: our koala habitat and other wildlife, native flora, biodiversity and the Noosa River. It’s how we bring people and nature together that makes Noosa the perfect Biosphere Reserve that will be here for generations to come.

NOOSA’S BEST SUSTAINABLE EATERIES Noosa’s natural beauty, with a fertile countryside feeding the pristine river system that flows to the blue waters of the Coral Sea inspires local eateries to showcase delicious food that is fished, farmed and produced right here, thanks to the passion of some of Australia’s leading chefs and innovative young guns. Many Noosa restaurants champion the paddock-to-plate philosophy, connecting with farmers, fishermen and producers to bring the tastiest, freshest ingredients to your table.

The ancient waterways of the Noosa Everglades 1

Discover the upper reaches of the Noosa River as it extends into the Noosa Everglades. Known as the River of Mirrors because of the amazing reflections in the water, the Noosa Everglades is a 60km stretch of pristine waters, magnificent flora and fauna and narrow waterways. One of only two everglade systems in the world, the Everglades stretch across two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, the Noosa and Great Sandy, and are safe to swim in.

W H Y W E L O V E I T With one of Australia’s most diverse ecosystems, it’s a photographer’s dream, a bird watcher’s paradise and a nature lover’s dream escape.

GETTING THERE Although it’s one of Noosa’s hidden spots, it’s easy to get to. Kayak tours leave from Boreen Point (about 25 minutes’ drive from Noosa Heads); and boat tours leave from Elanda Point. If on your own boat, head into the upper reaches of the Noosa River and through the lakes system.
