West Kerry GAA Breandán Fitzgerald Moran’s of Dingle West Kerry Senior Football Championship 2020 Final – An Ghaeltacht 0-9 to 1-13 Dingle Dingle defeated An Ghaeltacht in the Moran’s of Dingle West Kerry Senior Championship 2020 Final on Sunday 27th September in Gallarus, An Ghaeltacht 0-9 to 1-13 Dingle. This victory gave Dingle a three in a row of West Kerry Senior Football Championships and it means that Dingle have now won eight out of the last ten West Kerry Senior Football Championships. An Ghaeltacht’s Éanna Ó Conchúir opened the scoring with a point from play. Dingle responded with a Ruadhán McCarthy point from play and a Tomás Sheehy point from a free kick to put Dingle ahead. Éanna Ó Conchúir with a point from play levelled the game shortly after and he gave An Ghaeltacht the lead on the 15 minute mark with another fine effort from play. With Éanna Ó Conchúir, Cathal Ó Lúing, PJ Mac Láimh, Pádraig Óg Ó Sé, Rob Ó Sé and Colm Ó Muircheartaigh driving An Ghaeltacht on it wasn’t long till Ruaidhraí Ó Beaglaoich extended the lead to two with a point from a free kick shortly after. The score at the first half water break was, An Ghaeltacht 0-4 to 0-2 Dingle. As with many games since the introduction of the water break the course of the game changed on the resumption of activities. Dingle through some great play by Niall Geaney, Paul Devane, Breandán Kelliher, Patrick O’Connor, Darragh O’Sullivan, George Durrant, Barry O’Sullivan and Mikey Geaney started a fightback and a point from play from Ruadhán McCarthy left them just one behind. Young Dylan Geaney levelled the game with a fine point from play shortly after and when brother Niall started yet another attack from his wing back berth, it was Dylan Geaney who put Dingle one point up with 25 minutes played in Gallarus. An Ghaeltacht responded and a well worked move resulted in another Ruaidhraí Ó Beaglaoich point from a free kick to level the game. When Referee Brendan Brosnan blew the half time whistle the score was An Ghaeltacht 0-5 to 0-5 Dingle. Matthew Flaherty replaced Colin Moriarty for Dingle and Cathal Ó Beaglaoich replaced Seán Ó Luing for An Ghaeltacht at half time. Dingle opened the second half scoring with a point from play from Tomás Sheehy, this was cancelled out with a Ruaidhraí Ó Beaglaoich point from a free kick for An Ghaeltacht. An Ghaeltacht lost Tomás Ó Sé to injury shortly after and he was replaced by Oigí Ó Sé. Tomás Sheehy put Dingle ahead by one point with a point from a free kick shortly after. Dingle lost Paul Devane to injury and he was replaced by Mícheál Flannery. Dingle’s Tom O’Sullivan with another good run set up another visitor attack, and it was left to Dylan Geaney to extend Dingle’s lead to two with a point from play. Dingle Captain Mikey Geaney with Corn Thómais Ághas An Ghaeltacht introduced Ciarán Ó Coileáin and Colm Ó Gráinne, and it was left to Ciarán Ó Coileáin to reduce the deficit to two when he finished a wonderful An Ghaeltacht move with a point from play shortly after. Great credit to both teams at this stage of the game as they fought fairly for every inch of ground in Gallarus. The lucky supporters present cheered on tackle after tackle, shoulder against shoulder and it was great to see both teams go against each with all of their might. With the game in the melting pot it was the Dingle defence led by Niall Geaney, Tom Leo O’Sullivan and Patrick O’Connor that broke through An Ghaeltacht ranks. Tom O’Sullivan kicked a point from play for Dingle and shortly after Barry O’Sullivan gave Tomás Mac an tSaoir no chance when he scored the game’s only goal. Ruadhán McCarthy added another point from play for Dingle shortly after and when corner back Patrick O’Connor kicked a point from play it gave Dingle an 8 point lead, An Ghaeltacht 0-7 to 1-12 Dingle with 22 minutes played in Gallarus. Ruaidhraí Ó Beaglaoich kicked a couple of points from free kicks for An Ghaeltacht but it was Dingle’s day and it was Dylan Geaney who kicked the last point from play in Gallarus. GAA club games suspended with immediate effect The GAA’s Management Committee endorsed a decision to suspend all GAA Club games at all levels with immediate effect and until further notice. The decision was taken in the interest of public safety following a number of incidents in recent days. In particular, postmatch celebrations and a lack of social distancing at certain events have proved disappointing and problematic. This directive applies to all ages and all grades across the island.
