DONNA GIBBONS: WRITING & DRAWING FOR HEALING By Ellen Nguyen
When you meet Donna, the first thing she wants you to know is that she just wants to help people. After having her own life-changing experience, she hopes that sharing her writing and artwork will help others on their own journey of life. Donna Gibbons has been a Mission resident since 1991. And her first book Haunted In Hatzic: So It Begins is based on her spiritual experience near Hatzic Rock (Xรก:ytem). Her vision of a young Indigenous boy on top of the rock sparked her decision to share her story, which will become the first of 11 books in her Haunted in Hatzic series. All throughout her life, Donna has been creative and helping people with their spiritual journey, but at the age of 67, she decided to put it all on paper. And she hasn't stopped writing or drawing since.
A true labour of love, Haunted in Hatzic: So It Begins is handwritten in cursive and the illustrations are hand drawn. She gives a lot of credit to her husband Thomas, who is not only her biggest fan, but also a huge influence on the creative direction of all of her work. She continues to keep busy with many projects on the go. She has compiled her drawings into a colouring book, Fantasy by The Doodle Dragons. She is also writing another book about her healing journey from a traumatic car accident while she continues to write her Haunted in Hatzic series. It goes to show that no matter where you are in your life journey, it's never too late to find inspiration and beauty if you are open to it.
