How to succeed in job interview? TEXT: YUHANG YE
Summer work application season has come to the end now. We are going to face to another big challenge: the interview. Don’t worry, we are here to help! Don Geogevich, an interviewer and the author of the book Complete Interview Answer Guide, will present 5 last-minute tips for polishing your upcoming interview performance. So, the employer can get a better picture of who you are and what can you deliver to the organization if they hire you.
The first thing is to ask good questions. This is going to show them that you are thinking and visualizing about the job. You want your questions to have some value. When they see you are asking the real questions, maybe ”what is it like to work there? How are you going to evaluate my performances” their answers are going to help you decide if this is the place you want to work.
Let’s go on No.2. Be flexible! You want to be flexible in an interview. It’s a way to show them you’re willing. Whether it is about scheduling a follow-up interview, meet some other people, providing them references, be flexible! Be accommodating! Give them an answer. Be decisive. And show them that you’re willing to accommodate them, no matter it takes.
Number three, use their language. Use the same words that they do. Grab a copy of the job description. Go
through it and highlight the different word and language styles that they use. Then be reflective in the interview. When you start using the same words and terminology. You are showing them you are like-minded; you are one of them.
Number four, completement them if you don’t know the answer. The most awkward situation is that you don’t know the answer to the question they are asking. Don’t worry! Ask then back, for some follow-up questions around their questions. In this way, they are forced to give more clarification about what they are asking, and they might even ask a less restrictive question.
Last, let them know you want that job. Most candidates don’t do it. Be enthusiastic and passionate! Tell them you
want to work in this organization, and you want to work in this industry! Be specific! This will separate you from the other candidates. So, here are all the five tips. Keep them in mind when you are going to an interview. We wish that all of you can have a better performance in interviews and land on a good summer job! Good luck!
