A great game by the North Under E's this week, once again we had kids playing for the opposition & giving it their best. There was lots of teamwork, great attitudesdespitethecoldaswellasthekidsshowingthattheyhavebeentaking onboardeverythingwe'vebeenworkingonattraining.GoalkickerswereMax(1 for Millicent, 1 for North) & Kurtis (1), well one to all players & thanks to all parentsthathelpedout&toumpireJasonBaronforagreatfirsthomegame!
Congratulations to best players Cooper, Max, Kade, Layken & Harrison, well played!

U12C
The U12C had an early start this week due to the twilight game, the 8.30 game didn'tdetertheboysfromplayinganexcitinggameoffootball.Theweatheralso trieditsbesttobringtheskillsofthegamedown, buttheladsroseabovethisas well. We had one stand out player these weeks who has improved out of sight over the summer break, the motivation of footy cards for every goal was a success this week and Mum and Dad may need to take a bank loan to buy the 8 packs that are needed this week. Congratulations Ned Kamphuis. Other best players for this week were Lincoln Sawley, Lukas Vinko, Tom Wright and Will Gannon
Thanks to Millicent for the game and making for an exciting contest, it was a greatgametowatchwithalltheskillsondisplayfrombothteams.

U12A
Round 3 for the U12A's was approached which much anticipation. This current group, due to the Junior league set-up and available player numbers had not
come up against a Millicent side for a couple of seasons. The stage was set, our teamwascomingoffthebackofahugeandmuchimprovedeffortagainstWest, it was a Saturday morning game day, the predicted wet weather was holding off and we had almost a full team to select from. The only hiccup before we could get into it was with five minutes to go no Millicent coach and some doubt about howmanyplayerstheyhad!!
Once all that was sorted, they presented with a squad of 15. As our numbers were good and in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness so all players had time on the field our players helped out Millicent. These players were Henry Montgomery, Levi Jensen, Moonshine Win and Eliza Harvey As recognition of Moonshine and Eliza's contribution playing a half each for Millicent they receivedawardsfromthecoach.
The run of play for the game was very even for pretty much three quarters with neither side having many shots on goal. The defence of both sides was strong with Jake Cary displaying a rock solid full back contribution for the Tigers. In the final quarter he was moved to the forward line with instant results too. We had determination and hard work on display from many players but Kye WrenMitchell and Riley Chapman stood out, making sure the ball continued to be cleared out of the middle and delivered into the forward half Overall the team had multiple contributors with decisions around award allocation being very difficult for the coaches, so in lieu of 18 awards a big congrats by the coach and the first singing of 'We're from Tigerland' by the group seemed like a good substitute.
A great hit out by all players with some really good signs of growth and developmentfortheupcominggamesandseasonahead.
Award winners for round – Jake Cary, Riley Chapman, Kye Wren-Mitchell, Eliza Harvey&MoonshineWin.

At night is our first social function Survivor night see youthere
It was a long day and the weather and results seem to getworseasthedaywenton. Thanks to all the volunteers and I hope everyone from both teams enjoyed their Sundayoff.
The U14s kicked the dew off thegroundbeforegettingthe better of Millicent Sam Baron has had a huge start the year and was again named best players, with o t h er awa rd w in n ers including Ethan Brook, Ethan Flett, Lincoln Holtham and CooperHarris.
Coach Zeitz has got the U16s playing well. They pulled away, with Kade Allen is returning to his best after having a year off with a knee, being named best after 4 goals Other named best players included Cooper Turner, Alexander Bruce, Ben Braithwaite and Jackson Driver.
TraeHamiltonledtheU18sto a convincing win, supported bySebDoody(4goals),Reece McLaughlin, Deacon Ilsely (in his first game for the year after injury), Angus Allen and Zayne Young. Coach Bryan has the boys humming and I am sure some will be getting a look in the A grade in comingweeks.
So that's the end of the good results Unfortunately, the reserves best work was done on the dance floor Saturday night after not troubling the scorers during the afternoon. Hopefully a few more at training will see some i m p r o v e m e n t a n d competitive games coming
up. Best players were still found in Danny Poyner, Zach Clark, Tom Flett, Matthew Chapman, Aidan Curtis and coach Young who is doing everythinghecan. Pleaseget aroundhimandthankstoour guest umpire this week in Simon“razor”Engel.
The seniors didn't make the most of their early chances a n d a b i t m o r e communication could have had TMc running into an open goal. Like the weather, the footy deteriorated as the game wore on, with the reigning premiers too good on the day. We had another couple of debutants in Tyson Christophersen and Jonty Collins, both of whom we h o p e h a v e l o n g a n d successful careers at NGFC. Possibly the highlight of the day was the performance of Jonty and his 2 goals nearly singlehandedly keeping us in the game at ½ time, which was extraordinary for a kid playing his first game Awards were given to Brad Adams, Jake Schutz, Sam Egan, Nick McInerney, Sam StaffordandDaleBackmann.

This week we are at East and we will enjoy them looking afterus!

Round 3 done and good day fortheRoos!
Itwasfreezingearlyandour 14s had to start early. We metaverytalleastsidewho had some quality players in the team. Our young fellas ke p t t r y i n g a n d a re improving with some great individual efforts that will slowly build into solid team work Cant not mention Crammy at full back smother and follow up play to drive the ball to the wing. It was impressive to see and the players celebrating the little wins like that was just aspleasing.Greateffortand straighter Kicking this week can get us putting more pressureonsouth.

Again we are getting better everyweek.
I was on the dance floor Saturday night cutting the moves looking around and only seen Jessie and Pappsy on the dance floor while trey was pulling up dads pants all night Loz and knackers in the corner telling each other how good they are made anyone want to stay on the dance floor. Was great night with the Junior Groovin followed by the senior Groovin in the Roo.
Get up for tea at the club tonight and say hi to Bianca and try the great food she is cooking.

CLUBDEBUT
VThanks to Casterton for switching games with us, it was great conditions for the game under Casterton's new lights. The Cats got the jump early in the Seniors and although we made a few runs through the game couldn't sustain it. A great game again from captain TaylorSaffin,NelsonForbes, Riley Sturges played a great game in his debut in the Seniors, Oli Thompson, Bronson Saffin and Chris Fallas also in the best players. Two goals each to Brayden Kain and Nelson Forbes. Congrats to our two debutantes last week in Riley Sturges and Sam McTaggart who both played well.
A good effort from the Ressies to get the win, Huddy Keding had another good outing kicking three withtherestsharedaround. Harry Fisher played a great game in the ruck and Tommy Vassallo, captain Shaughn King, Jed Sims, Shem Wastell and Gus Calderwood were other betterplayers.
The16'shadagoodfirsthalf and really had to tough it out against the Cats in the second half. William Attiwill continues his good season with eight goals. Best players were Bentley, Noah Maxwell, Lockwood, Hopgood, Richter and Kinyamba.
The 14's are playing some really good football at the moment and came away with a good win Josh Hag get with six, Oli McCracken with four and Alex Nunn with two were the multiple goal scorers Best Players to Hagget, Nunn, Burns, Jennings, HartenandHiggens

Three games in a row at home Cat fans, we sure have been spoilt, and the Seniors havegivenus2winsathome, again making Island Park a fortress. What a great night was had last week, football under lights again, that will be making any old Saints fans shudderatthethoughtasthe Cats dominated the night games in the 90's, the lights were a little less reliable back in those days and may have gone off once or twice, but gee the Cats, and the Cat Fans, were a force to be reckonedwith.
South Gambier came to play and gave a good account but they certainly could not find an answer for the McCrae and Schembri brothers, thoseladsarenotgettingany shorter Captain Diarmid Cleary led the Cats well, as did El Presidente Dylan Ayton, the two of them would have had to get the Epsom Salts out Sunday morning, they didn't stop all night.
We have some great young talent at the club and Adam McKinnon and Elwood Geary werebothdeservedlynamed in the better players for their runandcarryefforts.
The two new blokes in Jarrod O'Brien and Michael Krieger have slotted in to the team perfectly, adding that extra bit of something, its not salt, its not pepper, but mmmmm it'stasty
TheRessieshadafaircrackat a very good Demons magoos but were a few goals short in the end. Four of the Cats that ran out for the twos were Darren Murrell, Josh Searle, Matthew Kurzman and Andrew Russell, these mates had not had a kick together for 10 years so it was great to see them on the Park, Kurzo got a couple of goals, Sticks was flying and punching the
sherrin clear out of defence, Dags didn't lose a ruck contest and had sore feet at the end of the game from all the kicks he got and Searlo ranasbesthecould.
I was really impressed with the way the Under 16 Cats played, Coach Fidler will see his lads playing finals this year Two of the Cats, Elwood Geary and Bay McKinnon, also played seniors and earned many applauds during that night match. It was a great team effort but somewhowerepraisedwere Blake Kurzman, Jedd Rhook, Archie Lane, Oliver Foster, Riley Hutchins and Reghan Parsons.
The Under 14's are going to be a few players short each week but you can guarentee theonesontheparkwillhave a crack, better players were Billy Rhook, Jett Lykke, Kirby Vise, Toby Auld and Ayden Nolte.
This week we welcome the Millicent Saints to Island Park, they love coming to Casterton so they can get a feed similar to what they are used to at McLaughlin Park butwithabetterview
So lets help our friends from Millicent enjoy the rolling hills, Cows, sheep and greener than green grass while our Cats give their lads a proper shellacking, Carn theCats!
Thank-you to all our valued s p o n s o r s i n c l u d i n g Boonaroo, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bendigo Bank, and CastertonSecondaryCollege
Upcoming Events : 1st of July Comedy night bythe one and only Ethan Hocking, he gives good banter but his brother playedforEssendon.
VThe Rezzies posted a magnificent scoreline to celebrate Clay's 150th, with the man of the moment even venturingintotheforward50 toclaimhisownsausageroll.
Aussie Fuller tapped to advantage allowing the ball to be shared fairly cleanly (given the conditions) to players like Gizzy, Ferg, Reills (Hamish variety) and Shooter Josh Peters finished with 6 majors, Digga 5, Hamish Reilly with 3 and MitchReillywith2.
The Seniors played in the t w i l i g h t fe a t u r e a n d benefited from North being unable to convert their forward 50 entries into goals, due partly to inaccurate kicking and partly to sound defence. The back six were supported and assisted by the mids pushing back to get the numbers in the right spaces to move the ball fairly freelythroughhalfforwardin cold and often slippery conditions.
The goal kicking sensation, Gene version 2.0 (the footballer formerly known as Cargs), finished with another 6 snags, Cream with 4 (and got a bit of it up the ground too)andNoahwith2.
Clint got plenty of it in close and found it in space too, thriving in the conditions Big Bill found some touch in the ruck in his first game for
Red, Black & White
the season. Plenty of players contributed and played their role in what was a good four quarterteameffort.
With the Senior twilight fixture, itwasgreattohaveall of the junior football played on the main oval. The U12's can sometimes get forgotten about on the back ovals, so it was a great experience for them to show their skills in frontofabiggercrowd.
MFNC Sports Day coming up on the 3rd of June, message Nicola or Kade Bradley to be allocatedtoateam.
Finally, theclubisproudtobe a part of the Red Cross Lifeblood blood donation drive, aimed at football and netball clubs. Jump on the club's socials to find more information about how to join the MFNC team and book in to make a donation. Every drop counts and together we can make a real difference.

NORTH Gambier won a narrow five-point victory in the 1954 South East and Border Football League first semi final against Millicent, played at Penola’sbigground.
It pushed the Magpies out of the finals series and the Tigers would then move into the preliminary final.
The oval was at near capacity as the two teams came onto the field with Johnnie Taylor leading Northandhewonthetoss.
North were immediately into attack and Terry O’Donnellwasfreedrightinfrontandgoaled. Bowman for Millicent had opened strongly but his long kick fell short and North defence rushed theballoutofdanger
As soon as the North centreline, led by youngster TrevorProbert, startedtopushforwardtheywere met by the brilliance of Millicent centre half back NeilMcDonald.
His athleticism was amazing as he was either taking strong pack marks or gathering the ball on the run, dodging opponents and sending the Magpiesbackintoattack.
With Ray Thompson on top at full back and Eric Roughana during well at centre half back for Northitbecameabattleofthehalfbacklinesand neither side were able to make a dent on the scoreboard.
Probert was damaging in the centre but his long kick registered a behind as the wind and the weatherelementsstartedtoplayabigroleinhow thegamewouldpanout.
Peter Thompson then took a great mark up forward and put the Tigers two goals clear with a beautifulpuntkick.
The long striding, long kicking full back Ray Thompson raced down field to intercept with great judgement and then banged the ball 60 metres to the forward line where Peter Thompson rose above the pack to pull in a top mark and then goaled for his second in as many minutes.
John Hanel in the back pocket was giving Ray Thompson plenty of support and they denied Millicentamajorinthatfirstterm.
Firstquarter:North3.3,Millicent0.3
In the second quarter the early part was dominated by the respective full backs – Ray Thompson (North) and Darkie Stevens
(Millicent).
They both took several saving marks on the last line of defence as neither attackscouldpenetratethedefences.
Attiwill was finding plenty of the ball across centre and he drilled a pass to coach Fred Bolton at full forward and put a drop kick through for Millicent’sfirstmajoroftheafternoon.
Across half back Pearce and Roughana were combining well to halt the Magpie attacks but Neil McDonald was doing much the same at the otherendoftheground.
Stevens charged down the ground, taking two bounces and then banged the ball into the half forwardlinewhereGouldsnappedupthecrumbs andpassedtoBoltonwhoagainmadenomistake for Millicent and suddenly North had a game on theirhands.
It was all Millicent as they charged forward time and again but Ray Thompson was in great touch atfullback.
Curyer who was now on top in the centre gathered and got the ball to Downes who kicked long over the pack and while it fell short it bounced and bounced and finally dribbled through for a major for the Magpies to allow themtohitthefrontforthefirsttimeinthegame.

In the third term Millicent were gaining plenty of advantage around the packs where Clive “Bub” Stevens and Attiwill were creative plus Curyer was now a dominant player, not only at the clearances but around the ground and his ability to hit teammates with his passes made him the bigdangerplayerforNorth.
Then through good work from Taylor, he got the ball to Peter Thompson and he kicked his third to narrowthegap.

Then, Roberts gathered at centre wing, got the balltoTaylor, whoturnedbrilliantlyoutoftrouble topasstoJoeWaterswhomadenomistake, then in a mini burst of brilliance Roberts again broke free and goaled on the run and North were back infront.
It was during the midway point of the third quarter that the weather became terrible and heavyhailandgaleforcewindshittheground.
It rained heavily for the remainder of the quarter and players started to play in ankle deep water in

With heavy rain falling play became congested as both teams used their defence to hold the score line.
In the final term neither side kicked a goal. North didnotscorewhileMillicentaddedthreebehinds tonarrowthegaptofivepointsatthefinalsiren.
Adding to the problem for Millicent was their top ball winner Bub Stevens was injured into the final term and had to leave the ground and from there Millicentstruggledtoshowthesamedashthathe provided.
Peter Thompson finished with three goals while FredBoltondidthesamealthoughhehadlimited opportunities.
Ray Thompson was close to best man on the ground at full back and his height and baulk was handy in the many packs that were created, particularly when the rain came but he his aerial workwasfirstrate.
Captain coach Johnnie Taylor was everywhere and his disposal, even in the wet was excellent while Eric Roughana’s bullocking body work and dash from half back kept Millicent out time and again.
Curyer was Millicent’s best and his drive from the midfield really tore North’s talented centreline apart.

Casterton Sandford reacted to their opening quarter deficit by swinging the changes, which saw coach Dani Russell and Libby Altorfer switching roles on the wings, with Altorfer moving to the a acking end of the court, while circledefendersCaeleighHumphriesandEbany Jarrad also swapped roles with Humphries moving back onto Dalton a er her opening quarter of nine from 12, alongside Alyssa Duncan’sperfectsixfromsix.
Over the next two quarters, the changes seemed to have an impact but an injury to Jarrad that forced her from the court, saw the Cats line-up again forced to shuffle, with Madalene Cleary moving from the centre to goaldefenceandIvyLane, whousuallypliesher tradeasagoaler, takingthecentrebib.
In a good sign for Casterton Sandford, the shoo ng combina on of Chloe Foster and Chelsey Galpin looked to be finding some good chemistry and they did generate more scoring opportuni esthantheprevioustworounds.

And with a solid defensive combina on of Bo Creek and Morgan Amy, the Bulldogs can only hope to con nue to improve as their completely new look line-up tried to develop somesynergy
West would have been thrilled with its fist and last quarters but also happy to stay in the contest when challenged more strongly in the second and third and as a complete defensive unit they are keeping sides to low scores and minimal scoring opportuni es, knowing they havesuchscoringpowerinSarahRi erandLisa McGregor.

Despite missing key defender Mikaila Pi , North was able to place rising teenage star Stella Mobbs in the goal keeper role for her A Gradedebut.
Millicent, as they so o en do, got off to a flier andledbysixatthefirstbreak..
Inaccuracy in the North shoo ng circle played a role in the deficit, while the Saints were nailing mostoftheiropportuni es.
In the second quarter the story was supply, with North genera ng 19 scoring shoots and finishing accurately, while Millicent had more trouble in finding their goalers and only 12 scoring opportuni es were onoffer
The Saints reacted to that quarter, with scores ed at the main break at 24-all, by changing up the mid court, moving Lillie Paul to wing a ack, Lisa Duldig into centre and freed up Kimmi Tincknell to the defensive wing with the injec on of Lauren VanEeden into the goal defencerole.
Again, North was able to just get the edge in scoring opportuni es and Grace Po s and Macey Griffith were also finishing accurately, with the Tigers enjoyinga six goal three quarter melead.

EASTGAMBIERVNORTHGAMBIER
East Gambier certainly challenged reigning premiers West Gambier for three quarters last weekend so despite the loss will be growing in confidence in its new look lineup as it takes on North Gambier – another new look team that certainly found its feet in round three with a strong victory over Millicent.
East will be hampered by a long term knee injury to goal a ack Casey Horrigan –forcing another change to the already significantly restructured Bulldogs line-up, but with the Likes of Morgan Amy and Bo Creek patrolling the defensive end, Tarsh McCallum bringing her leadership and speed to the mid court and Renee Henke showing good composure and accuracy in the shoo ng circle, the Bulldogs will s ll be inthemixin2023.

Northalsohasplentyofnewfacesinitslineup but the Tigers have the advantage of having been able to basically play the same combina on, with the excep on of the defensive circle, for the past two ou ngs andtheylooktobese lingnicely Grace Po s has dominated the shoo ng circle as North looked to life without re red starshooterCarolineWakefieldwithMacey Griffith combining just as well with her new shoo ngpartnerasshedidWakefield.
At the other end, Noni McConnell has been super consistent at goal defence, whether teaming with Mikaila Pi or teenager Stella Mobbs, and the ght checking North defensive circle will challenge the East frontline.
North’s mid court has the class and experience of Brianna Walters and Mel Renko, as well as the athle cism and raw talent of Lauran Norman and at this early stage in the season, the more se ledTigersshouldsecurethewin.

South Gambier secured its first victory of 2023 last weekend but will get a real taste of the work they s ll have to do whentheyheadtoMalseedParktotake on the reigning premiers on their new courts.
The unchanged Roos are undefeated in 2023, while the new look Demons have just been working on se ling some new combina ons.
Denying Sarah Ri er too much ball will be priority number one for South and that will rely on full court defensive pressure and cannot be le to Mykaela Thiele, who has been showing good forminthegoalkeeperbib.
Ri er has been prolific and accurate in the opening three rounds and if she gets her usual number of scoring opportuni es, the Demonsarenochance.
Tully McShane and Sophie Wight will need to work over me in the mid court to pressure the feeds from Mikaela Horrigan and Tara Bryant, while Ellie Bouchier will also need to try and create turnover ball before it gets to Ri er and also deny her direct opponent Lisa McGregor too much ball as she is the key link player for the Roos and also the most prolific deliverer of the balltoherstarshooter
The Roos defensive line of Zoe Malseed, Amy Cram and Jade Ri er is as tough as any in the compe on and will mean Alyssa Duncan will need to take charge of the a acking end of the court, as she has done already this season, and help work the ball with pa ence through the Roos relentless defensivepressure.
Teenager Gracie Dalton is finding her feet in her debut A Grade season for South and Megan Reid looks to be loving life at wing a ackandshewillneedtoworkover meto helphershootersfindspaceingoodrange.

CASTERTONSANDFORDVMILLICENT
Casterton Sandford is set to host Millicent this weekend and while that is a tough task at any me, it will be even tougher this weekend given the Saints are coming off a rareloss.
The 2022 runners up went down by 10 to North Gambier in round three as they look
to se le on their best combina onfor2023.
The shoo ng circle seems set with the height of Tabatha Sanderson and the speed and smarts of Demi Verbena out the front and with the Cats having lost reliable circle defender Ebany Jarrad to injury last weekend that only adds to the challenge and much will rest on the shoulders of Caeleigh Humphries to use her athle cism and probably means u lity Madalene Cleary will be called on to play at the defensiveend.
At the other end of the court, Cats shoo ng combina on of Chloe Foster and Chelsey Galpin have now had a couple of weeks to start developing some chemistry and their ability to separate the Saints defenders and find gaps in the Millicent backline will be cri cal.
Por a McRae, Kimmi Tincknell and Lauren VanEeden have the height to worry their smaller opponents and the Saints defensive trio is also well supported by pressure on thefeedbyLisaDuldigandLilliePaul.
The mid court is where both sides are s ll experimen ng with what is the best combina on with Duldig, Paul, Daisy Tunkin, as well as Nikeisha Facey, Tincknell and VanEeden in the mix for the Saints, while Dani Russell, Libby Altorfer and youngstersIndiLonghurstandIvyLanehave allspent metheirfortheCats.
Millicent will bounce back with a win but the Cats look to be improving with every ou ng.
