isit The Artists’ Gallery in The Village at Sunriver to find inspiration, view Sunriver and Central Oregon through an artist’s perspective or purchase art for a gift or your home. The artists provided some insight to enjoy the art you view at the Artists’ Gallery. CELEBRATE ART AT SECOND SATURDAY: The Artists’ Gallery is the centerpiece of the Sunriver Second Saturday event. The gallery has been hosting receptions for nearly its entire 11year existence, and the fun extends beyond the gallery to other places in the Sunriver area. Stop by any Second Saturday of the month to see where else to enjoy art, music, wine and food. DIFFERENT TYPES OF PAINTING: Our artists use different mediums for their painting, including oil, acrylic and watercolor. BEST ARTIST STORY: An admirer complimented artist Bill Hamilton on his painting at an art demonstration. Bill paused before replying, “You know, I’ve been painting professionally for over 40 years now, and I’m still learning how to paint every single day.” LEARN HOW TO PAINT: Artist Bonnie Junell helps people understand the techniques behind oil painting and pairs it with a glass of wine and snacks. Ken Marunowski incorporates a variety of styles for his students to try. DISCOVERING CUSTOM ARTWORK: Our artists often work on commission paintings, including Deni Porter, who offers custom pet portraits in her bright watercolors. Deni captures the true essence of the animal, even the most challenging animal. PAINTING WITH THE LENS: Our three accomplished photographers capture unique scenes from photographic landscapes to wildlife photography, the gallery hosts a variety of pieces on canvas and metal for the discerning collector. FIRED AND FORGED ART: Coffee mugs to bowls, discover the ceramic artwork molded and fired in a kiln. Artists Diane Miyauchi and Dori Kite create amazing sculptural art. Painter and sculptor Marjorie Cossairt uses the kiln for several mixed-media pieces, highly desired by gallery patrons. CERAMICS IN… THE GROUND?: Artist Peter Roussel creates earth fired pots and sculptures by burying them with hot coals. Peter’s glazes and color techniques are outside the box with several crawl and crackle styles, creating one-of-a-kind treasures. GLASS FIRING: Glassblowers Jeff and Heather Thompson are well-known for their amazing menagerie of sea and land creatures. Artist Cheryl Chapman creates a variety of dishes and wall hangings with whimsical scenes. Her method mixes painting and firing to create something rarely seen in most galleries. Still Standing, watercolor by Marjorie Coissiart FORGING AND SHAPING: Metalworker Jesse Pemberton focuses on art made from metal through a series of forging and welding processes. More traditional metal work can be found with jewelry makers such as Amy Pfeiffer and Leslie Stewart, who build complex copper, silver and gold jewelry with custom stones. Artist Karla Proud creates high-end sunstone pieces that are the envy of any collection. WOOD FOR FUNCTION: Woodworker Travis Cope creates useful items such as charcuterie boards, clocks and kitchen utensils. WOOD FOR FORM: “Sometimes the wood just tells me what it wants to be,” artist and furniture-maker Jim Fister said. “A lot of my wood starts on someone else’s scrap pile before it becomes a wall hanging.” FIBER AND WOVEN ART: Charlene Virts uses pine needles to create woven baskets to exotic needle sculptures. Artist Kayla Page designs unique leather pieces. WHIMSY IN SCULPTURE: Artists Kelly Lish’s work must be seen to be believed or make-believed as she uses found objects to craft fairy houses. CUSTOM CARDS: Custom letters, puzzles, and many other treasures await eager customers that desire an artistic piece at an affordable price. The Artists’ Gallery in Sunriver is open seven days a week in The Village at Sunriver. Summer hours are 10 am to 7 pm and fall through spring hours are 10 am to 5 pm. artistsgallerysunriver.com • 541-593-4382
