MOORE LEADS SEAHAWKS TO 87-74 WIN

It was a breakout afternoon for Cecil College freshman

Luke Moore. The recent Rising Sun High School graduate posted a career-high 19 points for the Seahawks in their 84-74 win against the visiting Community College of Beaver County to extend their winning streak to three games.

Moore went 8-of-12 from the floor, was a perfect 3-for3 from the free throw line and led all scorers on just 23 minutes of playing time. The effort helped the Seahawks improve their overall record to 6-4 and make it six wins in their last seven games.

Cecil pulled ahead of Beaver County at the start of the matchup, but the Titans fought back to make it a see-saw matchup. The Seahawks dropped a bas-

ket inside 9:00 put them ahead for the remainder of the game. After some solid Cecil defense stopped Beaver County threats, N'Fari Benjamin and Dominic Carrington dropped three pointers to extend the lead.

The Titans went into halftime down by nine, but were able to fight back to within a basket before the Cecil College defense proved too much for them. Benjamin and Frank Toney each buried three 3-pointers on the evening and scored 13 and 14 points respectively for the Seahawks. Vernon Simmons added 14 for Cecil College and led the team with eight rebounds on the afternoon.

The win sets up a matchup on the road Wednesday with conference rival CCBC Catonsville who are currently 3-6 on the season.

COACH

Matt Feeney - Elkton Golden Elks

If you hear the name Coach Feeney you know it means Elkton Football. It means the “GOAT” of coaches. So, it is extremely hard to put into words the impact Coach Feeney has had on Elkton Football these last several years. I can speak for myself, Feeney has helped me get my passion and love for the game back to where it needed to be. He is my mentor, my support system, and a role model. The true leader you want to mirror. He is someone that makes you give 110% at all times, whether that be in practice, games, or the classroom. He has no idea what those quick text

messages and check-ins do for not only me but the guys on the team. They always come at the right times when we need them the most. Speechless to hear the news of him no longer being the Head Coach at Elkton, but I told him he is not getting rid of me yet. We have unfinished business to handle. I know he will still be there to support all of us from off the field. He’s a trustworthy man, which allows us to go to him for guidance at any time. He promised the team he’ll always be there as someone to talk to when it comes to school, football, or life in general. I have one more year of

Elkton Football left in me and I will continue to look to him for guidance and support. Besides, I need to make sure I hold up to the “Sauce” standard that he nicknamed me at the beginning of my Junior season. Coach Feeney, thank you! Wishing you nothing but the best. Time for you to take care of YOU like you took care of all of us.

Coach’s Note:

Maddy led the team with 35 points. She recorded a career high 5 goals against Aberdeen. She continued to be the driving force behind our young offensive line. Her consistent ability to dribble and dodge the length of the field, despite being tightly marked, enabled us to gain countless opportunities in the attacking circle.

ALL COUNTY FIELD HOCKEY

Coach’s Note:

Hannah has the skill to move the ball carefully and successfully up the right side of the field, using her sideline well to beat defenders. Her quick reactions and decision combined with her hustle from one end of the field to the other, enabled us to maintain possession of the ball, particularly in the offensive circle.

Coach’s Note: Brin Khanjar is known for her speed, dodges, and quick shots on the forward line. Brin capitalizes on every play. She cuts into the space or runs onto the ball to quickly collect and create an opportunity. She weaves and replaces with her other offenders in an imaginative and creative way. When Brin is in the circle, her shots are quick and accurate. If she doesn’t get the first shot, she quickly collects the rebound and tries again. Her feet are always right in the circle! She is a part of defensive corners, offensive corners, and a member of the 1v1 team and 7v7 team for overtime. Brin has 14 goals and 6 assists for the 2022 season. One of these goals was against Fallston!

Coach’s Note: Peyton led our team scoring 11 goals and having 1 assist. As a quick player she outrun defenses taking the ball down the field as a formidable shooter. She is aggressive, has great ball movement skills and can shoot from any angle.

Coach’s Note: Katie is an incredibly hard worker. She showed up to practice each day ready to improve her hockey game. She is enthusiastic and is a fierce competitor. I can’t wait to see what the next two years bring!

Coach’s Note: Kelsey Jennings weaves in and out of players as the offensive midfielder. Her dodges and quick distribution to her teammates is key to our success offensively. If Kelsey does have the ball taken away from her, she channels into another player or earns a tackle herself. Kelsey also has a fantastic shot. Her drives and lifts are very accurate and quick! This leads to her success offensively. She is an asset to the North East field hockey team. She is a part of offensive corners and a member of the 1v1 team and 7v7 team for overtime. Kelsey has recorded 9 goals and 4 assists for the 2022 season. Kelsey has had 3 game-winning goals.

Coach’s Note: Katie’s presence and role cannot be overstated on both sides of the ball. She is among the fastest and smartest midfielders in the county, dispossessing opponents and feeding balls to our offensive line. Wherever the ball was on the field, Katie was there and always made something positive happen with it. Much of our team’s success is a result of Katie’s relentless skill, speed, and presence on the field. Katie started and played in all 14 games while also competing in Cross Country and qualifying for the State Cross Country meet.

Honorable Mentions:

MJ Kyle, EHS Mallory Loveless, NEHS Aliza Compher, Tome Alice Mackie, RSHS Aly Strusowski, BMHS Alena Kirsh, Tome

Coach’s Note: AnnMarie is a key player and is wall on defense. As one of our captains this year, AnnMarie is on the field helping her players move around the field. AnnMarie has a wide skill set and picks up drills quickly.

Coach’s Note: Lizzy was again the rock of our defensive unit which allowed us to play 7 games straight without conceding a goal. Her ability to read passes, dodge and carry the length of the field, and come up with big saves made it difficult for opposing teams to gain entry into our defensive circle. Her strong defensive play allowed us to spend a significant amount of time attacking up the field. I believe that she is hands down the top defender in the county.

Coach’s Note: Jillian is a dominant defender as well as a shooting threat on corners. She had 2 goals, 2 assists and 4 defensive saves. Jillian is an aggressive, fast and tactical player who can transition the ball from defense to offense quickly.

Coach’s Note: Katie Goodwin flies across the field making huge stops. Her block tackles and jabs come in clutch to stop any opponent coming down the field. If they do get past her, she is right back in the play within seconds. Once she does make the tackle, she quickly distributes to an open player. Katie is an essential player for the North East field hockey team offensively and defensively. She is a part of defensive corners, offensive corners, and a member of the 1v1 team and 7v7 team for overtime. She has started every single game this season. Katie has recorded 1 goal for the 2022 season.

Tess Keatley has been the rock of the North East Field Hockey defense. She can clear the ball hard, flat, and far. She lays out for balls when she needs to. Most notably, in the recent Bo Manor regional championship, she had a huge save where she laid flat out and cleared the ball out of the circle within seconds. Her athleticism in the cage is evident. Not only is she a great player, she is a good communicator by helping field players figure out their marks during games. With 79 saves out of 94 shots, she has played superbly in every single game. After missing her junior year to injury, Lenz was full force going into her senior season with the Eagles until another injury cut her year short. Despite only playing 11 games, Lenz was on pace finish top in the county for blocks and kills. She continued to support her team after the untimely ending of her senior year, but still finished with 16 aces, 22 blocks, 96 digs, and 73 kills.

The senior middle made quite an impact for the Indians, helping her team to an appearance in the 2A Regional Semifinals. A consistent strength in the front row, Coker led the Indians in blocks and kills, tallying 22 block and 67 kills in her final year.

Weil had an impressive year controlling the offense, dishing out 298 assists for the Tigers while splitting time at the setter position. The senior also led her team at the service line, finishing the regular season with 42 aces to go with her 95 digs and 20 kills.

Earning back-to-back All-County honors, Grace Bradfield concluded her sophomore season by winning an MIL Championship with the Titans. Finishing second in the county and first for her team in kills, the sophomore continued to be a versatile presence both in the front and backrow. She finished the regular season with 39 aces, 77 digs, and 162 kills.

Jackson made a massive impact for the Panthers during her senior campaign, which included helping her team to a 1A Region Semifinal appearance. The senior finished top five in the county with 187 digs and led her team offensively at the net, tallying 107 kills.

The senior setter was a true leader for the Indians who saw late season success and a playoff berth, making it to the 2A Region Semifinals under Mullins’ direction. She led the team with 174 assists and finished with 11 blocks and 33 kills.

An impactful player, Burchett finished second in the county and first for the Panthers with 248 digs to conclude her senior year. She led the defense not only during the regular season, but also in playoffs as the Panthers saw success in the 1A Regional Quarterfinals.

Ainsley Carrillo - Tome Titans

Coach’s Note: Carrillo made an impact not only at the net, but at the service line as well. Finishing her freshman year with 67 aces, 9 blocks, 68 digs, and 118 kills, look for Carrillo to find continued success and grow into her role at middle with the Titans.

Chris Spencer - Tome Titans

Coach Chris has been at the Tome School for seven seasons, and has won six MIL championships. This season, Coach focused on the development of younger players, since we have a very young team and a strong middle school pipeline. Coach Chris said that this season’s goal simply was to bring the trophy back to Tome and we did just that.

Coach’s knowledge of the game and understanding of his players allows him to make adjustments necessary for the team to be successful.

His energy and love of the sport is contagious, and the team mirrors that on the court.

This year’s championship game was a special milestone for Coach Chris because it was his 100th win with Tome.

Coach’s Note:

12 SOG, 6 goals, 6 assists Paytn Hulbert has the most technical skills out of any center back in Cecil. His ability to win balls, create space and distribute to target players in order to build from the back is what makes him the best center back in Cecil. And when he goes forward he helps to create and can finish with lethal accuracy.

Coach Tome has done a excellent job forming and changing this team. As the head coach starting last year he had tried to change the way the team played, we started to transition to a more progressive and controlled play style. This year you could really see how the team has adapted to that play style and uses it to its fullest potential thanks to coach Tome. Through his training he has made everyone on the team exceptionally gifted with field vision and their touches. He was a hard coach but it was for the better, without coach Tome I do not believe that the team would have made it as far as we did.

I’m excited to see how coach Tome will change the team next year since he is going to lose a lot of senior, but without a doubt in my mind I know he will make the team even better. Coach’s Note: 16 goals, 7 assists, forward, 14 games played. Ethan has the ability to beat anyone 1 on 1 at any moment. He has an incredible soccer IQ and always looks to get his teammates involved and still scores goals every game. He brings so much energy to the team with his incredible work ethic.

Coach’s Note: Gary led our team in goals (9) and assists (4) despite only playing 14 games and being hampered by a knee injury. Gary’s strength and technical ability allowed him to be a one man wrecking crew and many of his goals came on solo efforts where he would beat 2-3 defenders. TSCA is lucky to have him for the way he handles himself on and off the field.

Coach’s Note: 7 goals 4 assists Grant has been outstanding in each game. His game has been excellent offensively and defensively during each day, we stepped on the park. He played through the pain barrier and scored some excellent goals at vital times during the season. He is great with both feet and excellent in the air

Coach’s Note: 28 SOG, 4 goals, 4 assists Anthony was one of the most physical midfielders in the state this year. his ability to shield the ball and come out of tight spaces sets him above any other central midfielder in this county and beyond.

Coach’s Note: Midfield - 10 games - 3 goals,2 assists on 18 shots (missed games at the end due to a hip injury)

Coach’s Note: Senior, Defender, 1 goal 1 assist... Long throw specialist, 120 tackles won.

Coach’s Note: Captain. 1 assist and 1 goal for the season 2 clean sheets

Alex has been a leader on and off the pitch all season, he has played every minute of the season, goals to games ratio of 1.5, solid in the air great pace, and has good passing with both feet.

Coach’s Note: Senior, Defender, Captain, 4 goals and 2 assists. 102 tackles won.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Coach’s Note: Our junior center back. Considering that the rest of our backline was makeshift this season including playing alongside a freshman center back, Evan was the rock that held everything together. He had several goal line clearances and I don’t think he lost many if any one v one situations. He also emerged as a great leader this year.

Coach’s Note: Senior, Goalkeeper, 5 shutouts (Bo manor, Elkton, Northeast, Edgewood, Joppatowne) Low number of saves as not many shots were taken on him due to strong defense. 32 saves.

FORWARD FORWARD FORWARD FORWARD MIDFIELDER MIDFIELDER

Coach’s Note:

Cami is a sophomore, who plays like a senior, makes smart decisions with the ball, on the ball, and off the ball. She is an immediate threat in a 1v1, has the shot from distance, and composed in front of goal. She finished the year with 10 goals, and 5 assists.

Coach’s Note: Sarah is a phenomenal athlete but an even better teammate. Her work rate is non stop and is constantly challenging her teammates to be better in training. Between her speed and foot skills as a forward she was instrumental in our successful season. Sarah is a true leader and a real pleasure to coach for the last 3 years.

Coach’s Note: Hallie finished the season with 10 goals and 2 assists, while missing 3 games with a concussion. Hallie sits in an attacking role on the outside so floats between forward and midfield roles. She has a great shot and loves to attack players one-onone, showing great composure with the ball. She has a knack to find the back of the net.

Coach’s Note: Captain, demonstrated how offensive she could be this season. Over 50 shots and 13 goals and 2 assists earning her a 2nd Team Susquehanna Division.

Coach’s Note: Laynee controls the tempo of the game, she facilitates our offense, and helps keep us composed defensively. She consistently wins 50/50 balls in the middle of the field and rarely loses possession. Her soccer IQ is very high, and she makes the players around her better. She is a senior captain, who finished the year with 6 goals and 9 assists. She is currently playing for Penn Fusion, next year she is attending University of Delaware. Last year she was voted All-State Honorable Mention, and this year she will likely be All-State Second-Team. She is my vote for player of the year.

Coach’s Note: Addie finished the season with 10 goals and 9 assists, leading our team in both categories. Addie controls the middle of the field for us, often drawing a man-mark. She distributes the ball extremely well for our team to create chances and hits great shots from outside. She is a workhorse in the middle of the field and loves physical play.

Coach’s Note: Captain, played midfield and striker depending on the formation, and in either position she was going 100% and bringing energy to the offense. With over 50 shots she had 8 goals and 8 assists earning her a 1st team Susquehanna Division selection.

Coach’s Note: Brooklyn combines an uncanny knack for always making the right play with a fierce determination to win every ball...She led our midfield play this season scoring 6 goals with 10 assists..A true 2 way player ,she makes as many plays in the defensive half of the field as she does the offensive half...Scoring,assisting,physical marking, heading the ball, etc,Brooklyn does it all .Her willingness to do anything needed to help her team cemented her standing as one of Perryvilles team leaders.

Coach’s Note: Determined, relentless, fierce would be just a few of the adjectives that describe Hailey as a soccer player..A true team leader, Hailey anchored a defense that allowed only 13 goals all season..She has an off the charts soccer IQ and the stamina to play all 80 minutes....She also has that rare ability to transition into an offensive force as her 3 goals and 6 assists would attest to.Leading by example in every game and practice,Hailey was a major reason for Perryvilles success this season

Coach’s Note: Captain, anchor for the defense, scored 3 goals, vocal leader for the team, innovative with workouts, 1st team Susquehanna Division

Coach’s Note: Katelyn is the heart of our defense. She consistently makes sound defensive decisions, controls our back line, and facilitates good build up play. She finished the year with 1 assist

Coach’s Note: Sarah has grown tremendously in the two years she has been on our team. This year she was able to keep us in games with great saves and constant communication to our defenders. With Sarah only being a sophomore I can’t wait to see how she excels in the upcoming years.

2nd TEAM ALL COUNTY GIRLS SOCCER

Coach’s Note: Speedy outside winger. She was a defensive player in other formations and was eager to understand her role as the season progressed. She became an offensive threat as she scored 3 goals and had 2 assists. Her Harford tech goal demonstrated how dangerous she was for us

Coach’s Note: Bri finished the season with 6 goals and 5 assists, while missing 3 games with a knee injury. She has breakaway speed up top and regularly draws defenders to her, which opens up the rest of the team. She cleans up a lot of our attack by being in the right place at the right time and does a superb job at being our first defender when the opponent is trying to bring the ball out of the back.

Coach’s Note: The best communicator on our team, constantly talking and moving off the ball. Has a very high soccer IQ. Sophomore starter for the second year, she was the second leading goal scorer on our team finishing with 7 goals and 2 assists.

Team Captain’s Note: Maddie was a great teammate and addition to the team this year, coming in as a freshman with skill, speed, and great energy. She is a fast, versatile player who gives constant effort which allowed for her to score 6 goals this season along with an assist, including a game winner in double overtime against Havre De Grace . She played a major role in our offense while contributing on defense as well. Will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in her next 3 seasons!

Coach’s Note: Eli is a three-year varsity starter at midfield. Technical player who controlled the middle of the field for Elkton. Team leader that works tirelessly the entire game defensively and transitioning the offense. Eli tallied two goals and five assists on the year. Eli played in all 11 games for Elkton this year.

Coach’s Note: I have been lucky to coach Kamryn since she was 8 years old and as a coach you couldn’t ask for a better player. Her joy for the game and energy she brings to every session is infectious to the entire team. Her vision on the pitch and game awareness makes everyone around her better. Perryville High School, and myself, are lucky to have a player with not only Kam’s talent but also the joy she brings to everyone around her.

Coach’s Note: Senior captain who has started with us since freshman year. An overall solid player who is very consistent. She is the unsung hero of midfield. She finished the year with 4 goals and 2 assists.

Coach’s Note: She was a midfield this year with the formation we played. She was dominant in gaining possession and then transitioning it into offence. She managed 18 shots with 1 goal and 4 assists. Earning her a 2 nd Team Susquehanna Division selection.

Coach’s Note: The heart and soul of our back line. The best communicator in the back who consistently helps the back line keep their shape, shift, step, drop, etc. She has had a wonderful season, really stepping up as a leader this year. Consistently makes great tackles and good passes under pressure.

Coach’s Note: Sarah finished the season with 1 goal and 2 assists as our center defender. She makes good decisions on when to step to win the ball or when to drop to stop a break. She is great at winning balls in the air and can handle physical play. She organizes our back line well.

Coach’s Note: Julia only played 7 games this season before tearing her ACL. She was a notable loss to our team as a center defender. She is a smart player who transitioned from midfield to center back this year to fill a void. She wins 50/50 balls and is the one we call upon when we need to mark the opponent’s best players. She is our leader on and off the field and continued that leadership when stuck on the sideline.

Coach’s Note:

Leeann is a three- year varsity starting keeper. Tallied 2 goals as a field player and an impressive 106 saves on the season in the net. Posted two shutouts. Commands the box with her speed and aggressiveness. Shows versatility by playing in the field. Possesses strong work ethic and leads by example. An exceptional all around athlete that is irreplaceable in the net. Leeann played in all 11 games for Elkton this year.

Saying that Noah Wallace had a dominant season is an understatement. The Ace of North East’s campaign featured an outstanding 35.3 scoring average – beating his record season mark of last season by over two strokes per 9. Noah was an incredible 5-under par for the season, backed by four matches in red numbers, a 71 in his second straight District VII title, a 69 at the County Championships, and a 67 on the final day of states en route to his second straight State Individual Title. Noah ran laps around the county this year – beating the next closest scoring average by 6-strokes per 9 holes.

1st TEAM ALL COUNTY GOLF

For the most part last year, Tyler Hogue was a golfer who boasted a lot of ability but struggled to stay consistent. In spite of that last year, Hogue was still third in the county last year in scoring average. This year was a totally different story. This year’s Tyler Hogue made great decisions all year and reigned in his power to become a bastion of consistency for Rising Sun. The senior leader shot a 42 or better in 7/8 of his matches, and shot an 80 at Districts, 82 at Counties, and a 79 on the first day of states. Hogue was the only other golfer representing Cecil at States, and started it off with a career best 9 of even-par 35.

Karina Serio continues her rapid ascension to the top of the county as not only the best girl golfer, but one of the best golfers period. Her solid junior season boasted several scores in the 30s, amongst continued success in junior competitions outside county play. Her season average of 42.7 was a slightly better performance at counties from taking the silver medal spot for the golfer of the year standings. Nevertheless, look for Serio to continue making steady improvements in her pursuit of playing collegiate golf.

Wyatt Cudmore’s rookie season was as good as advertised. The rising star boasted a season average of 43.5, which was nearly the same as teammate Noah Wallace’s average in the pandemic shortened season of 2020. Wyatt’s freshman campaign featured a 39 at his home course Chesapeake Bay GC, the second-best score of county golfers at Divisionals, and a great showing at Districts just narrowly missing a state championship berth. With a balanced toolkit and great physical talent, look for Wyatt to be a worthy successor to the throne as North East’s heir apparent ace.

The budding rivalry between Wyatt Cudmore and Lucas Kilgore was as good as advertised, with both golfers finishing with an average of 43.5 for the season. Lucas enjoyed a similar ascent as the #2 golfer for Rising Sun, highlighted by a score of 38 at Exton, three 41s, and an eye-opening second place finish of 77 at the County Championships. His career low is a testament to his prowess as a pure competitor, and his high golf IQ, love of the game, and his ability to perform under pressure will only elevate his ceiling as his techniques continue to refine.

It is no surprise that the talented Ben Adams is first team all-county. While the longtime Rising Sun leader had a rough year by his lofty standards, it was not without some highlights showcasing the potential he has going into his final season. His stretch of play at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds courses totaled a 77 for back-to-back rounds at Ruggles and Exton. Ben’s scoring average of 44.7 otherwise was very consistent aside from poor showings at Counties and Divisionals, meaning that he’s just got to make some adjustments to drop a few strokes to regain his spot amongst the county’s elite.

Noah Wallace - North East Indians

How does one follow up a season where you averaged 37.4 per 9H, and swept your way through Counties, Districts, Divisionals, and States as a sophomore? How about this for an encore performance: a 35.3 average per 9H, and repeat titles in Counties, Districts, and of course States as a junior. This offseason, Noah hit a growth spurt and gained 40 yards of distance off the tee. He also made an important swing change – moving away from the flat wrap swing he won his first title in-spite of, to a swing that is far more on plane and allows him to control his distance and spin far more effectively. The shortgame wizard now matched his prowess with the wedge and flatstick with 290+ yard tee shots and crisp irons. While the rest of the state and county improved in an effort to catch Noah, Noah doubled their pace of improvement. A season for the ages, means it is a unanimous decision to award him his second straight Golfer of the Year honors. Look for his final campaign to be even more epic as he works towards a D1 scholarship.

Karina Serio - Tome Titans

While the female representation of the county improved dramatically this past year, the female golfer of the year still unanimously goes to Tome School’s ace Karina Serio. The talented junior was nearly the second-best golfer in the county period and was the best female golfer by nearly 13 strokes per 9 holes. A golfer with aspirations to play collegiate golf, look for Karina to put in the work over the offseason to take her game to the next level. Smoothing out a few swing fundamentals and sharpening up her shortgame ought to make Karina a threat in any competition she tees up on.

Braden “Bub” Paris was an anchor for an otherwise very erratic Bo Manor team. The sweet swinging junior made tremendous strides this season with his ballstriking, and his scoring average was one of the best down the stretch. With his average of 44.9, Bub only exceeded 46 on two occasions – once in matches and the other time at Counties. The highlights of Paris’ season were a 38 at Exton and co-medaling in the Susquehanna Division championship with a 44. Paris is an exceptionally talented ballstriker, and look for his senior-year scores to drop hard after a good summer of work. He will be a lock for first team.

2nd TEAM ALL COUNTY GOLF

Andrew Kidd locks up a second straight season with All-County honors with his scoring average of 45.9.

Kidd’s season was a little different from last year. Despite opening the season with a 40 at Exton, the rest of his matches he struggled, with 5 scores at 48 or above. With that being said, Kidd stepped up big time in championship play, where he led the team by 30 strokes in the three events combined. A 93 at Districts, a co-medalist 44 at Divisionals, and a fourth place-finish 84 at Counties is more in line with the scoring we expected from him. A little more consistency in matches and Kidd is first team easily.

The most improved golfer from last year to this year is heads and shoulders

Jake Eckman, dropping 10 strokes off his 9-hole average from last year and becoming an anchor for the Tiger squad. Jake is the ONLY golfer other than Noah Wallace and Karina Serio to have both multiple rounds in the 30s and no matches with rounds in the 50s. Jake really turned on the jets after a rough showing at Districts, turning in a career round of 39 at the course he grew up on (Chesapeake Bay GC) and an even better 38 at Exton. Jake’s average of 46.0 was a brilliant capstone on a hard earned high school career.

The third member of North East’s budding “Big 3”, Brandon Kristovich showcased massive improvements this year, powered by a much-needed swing change and more competitive reps. Kristovich was three rounds in the 50s from being in the first team conversation. The rest of his rounds were pretty solid, with multiple 43s and a career competitive best 41 on a day where Noah shot 34 and Wyatt shot 39 – showcasing just how lethal this trio will be next year in what will likely be North East’s best shot at a title.

Lucas Umbarger is a new name to the All-County list, and one that is well deserved. The senior averaged 47.0 on the season, and was low on the team in scoring average on regular season match play. His season was highlighted by back-to-back 41s at Furnace Bay and Back Creek. Umbarger’s season was the inverse of his teammate Andrew Kidd’s however, and his average score of 45 in the matches was offset by his average score of 50 per 9 in the championships. Nevertheless, the Panther senior made huge strides this year and earned his all-county honors with his solid play!

The third Perryville Panther on the list, and the 7th junior of the exceptionally talented class of 2024 was comfortably in the mix for first team all-county for most of the year. Through 5 matches, the youngest Eldreth brother maintained a phenomenal 43 average – and at September 27th he was ranked third in the county. Unfortunately, Jared fell into a little bit of a slump at the end of the season and averaged 49 the rest of the way to a final average of 47.2. Jared’s true skill level is that of the beginning of the year and look for him to post a massive senior season – he will finish the job next year!

Lucas Kilgore - Rising Sun Tigers Seth Grimes - North East Indians

While the freshman rivalry between Wyatt Cudmore and Lucas Kilgore ended in a draw at 43.5, Lucas’ eye-opening performance at the County Championships gives him the edge for this award. Lucas Kilgore is a gamer – I’ve never seen a 13-year-old kid who prefers playing golf when there is something on the line. He’s already a prodigy on the pool table, and now he’s taking that high-rolling attitude to the course. But don’t mistake that for being a gunslinger – Lucas knows when to fold them and take his medicine when he’s in trouble. Kilgore is a raw talent with great golf IQ who loves the game of golf, this will be a dangerous engine to his future as he continues to sharpen up his fundamentals.

Let us preface this award by saying that the student-athletes of Cecil County are blessed to have such great coaches across the board. In my experience with Seth Grimes and Tim Kerns, both coaches go above and beyond to give their golfers the abilities to improve, and either one of those coaches could win this award every year. Seth gets the edge this year in particular for his impact on Cecil County Golf outside of the high school season. Seth worked part time at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club and was the primary assistant coach of Cecil County’s first ever PGA Junior League, in which there was a 13U and 17U team. Seth not only worked with the North East kids on the team, but even the Rising Sun and Perryville golfers as well. There’s nobody who wants to see Cecil County Golf as a whole improve more than Seth Grimes, and his efforts to help make ALL kids from ALL schools better certainly puts him over the top.

Coach Sprout has been an amazing coach this past season. With her constant motivation and encouragement, she brought a flame to our team which inspired us all to reach beyond what we thought was possible. Along with that, she brought our whole cross country team together and made us feel like a family. Throughout all the hardcore workouts, she managed to make cross country enjoyable and fun. Inside and outside of cross country she pushed and encouraged us all to do well in school as well as being better people in our lives. It is an honor to have Coach Sprout throughout this amazing season.
