Look at all that lovely, cool blue water in the photos on our cover! High Point Parks & Recreation is happy to announce the reopening of the pool at High Point City Lake Park for the first time since August 2019. It is now open seven days a week with some exciting new features and ready for you to come check it out! The train and carousel at High Point City Lake Park are now running daily as well, or you can enjoy a few rounds of mini golf or time on our playground. Ticket prices for park amusements vary; please visit our webpage for more information.

The spacious pool at Washington Terrace Park is also open daily; this location features an accessible playground donated several years ago by the Kiwanis Club of High Point. The Splash Pad behind Southside Recreation Center is open extended hours, too – this is the perfect way to cool off quickly in hot weather! We’ve provided all the details for you on page 3, plus some bonus information on water-based recreation programs for the whole family as we kick off the summer of 2023. Come “Play. Learn. The Epic Summer of 2023:

Coming to High Point Parks and Pools Near You

Summer has arrived, and it’s time to cool off by the water or in the water or maybe even to learn some new skills on the water! High Point Parks & Recreation offers lots of water-based recreation programs this summer.

First, though, let’s talk about those pools! After an extensive renovation process, High Point City Lake Park’s pool is open, offering a gorgeous 50-meter swimming pool, a lazy river and zero-depth entry, three water slides, a splash pad with play features and family-friendly changing rooms. Daily hours of operation are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Admission to the pool and water slides is $10 per person for High Point residents, $15 for non-residents and free for children ages two and under. Lap swimming is available from 7 – 9 a.m. daily; cost is $5 for High Point residents and $7 for non-residents.

Daily passes, advance tickets and season passes are available for individuals and families. Please visit www.highpointnc.gov/citylakepark for information or call the

Washington Terrace Park also offers a spacious, pool with a zero-depth entry, a waterslide and wading pool. This cool pool is open seven days a week from noon – 6 p.m. Admission is $2 per person with children ages two and under admitted free. A large accessible playground is also onsite. The Splash Pad behind Southside Recreation Center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. This is a fantastic way to cool off quickly on those hot days and it can easily be enjoyed by younger children. There is no cost to visit this location; please note a parent must accompany children at all times.

High Point City Lake Park Aquatic Center

After School Programs

After School Program (Grades K - 5)

Our after school programs offer a variety of activities including homework time, gym games, arts & crafts, outside play and other planned activities. Parents are responsible for daily snacks. All after school programs follow Guilford County Schools traditional calendar and schedule for inclement weather-related closures.

Allen Jay Recreation Center

School bus transportation is provided from Allen Jay Elementary and Allen Jay Prep (fifth grade). Parents need to arrange school bus transportation at their child's school. Transportation is provided from Triangle Lake Montessori, Union Hill Elementary and Jamestown Elementary Schools. We accept drop-offs from home or other schools.

Deep River Recreation Center

Transportation is provided from Southwest Elementary, Phoenix Academy, Florence Elementary and Colfax Elementary. We also accept drop-offs from home and other schools.

Oakview Recreation Center

Transportation is provided from Oakview Elementary, Shadybrook Elementary, Johnson Street Global Studies, Montlieu Academy of Technology, Northwood Elementary and Kirkman Park Elementary. We accept drop-offs from home or other schools.

Discovery Sports After School Program (Grades 1 - 5)

The Morehead Discovery Sports After School Program is designed to develop and improve the all-around sports skill sets of each participant. Through drills and practice, participants will learn the fundamentals of a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional sports and games, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. The result will be an ability to play sports in pick-up or recreational play settings and sufficient instruction to try out and play for an organized team.

Summer Camps

High Point Parks & Recreation offers high-quality, affordable summer camp programs with arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor play and social time in a safe environment. Register for all programs by visiting our website or calling our office at 336.883.3469.

Discovery Sports Camp (Ages 6 - 9 & 10 - 12)

Discovery Summer Sports camp is an opportunity for athletes to learn new skills and sharpen their abilities over the summer. Staff and camp counselors with vast sports experience will facilitate this exciting program!

Mondays - Fridays, July 10 - July 28, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

$50 per week

Registration is per week in either age group. $10 nonrefundable/non-transferrable deposit required for each week.

Summer Tennis Camps (Ages 6 - 18)

This camp for beginners covers all the basic skills of tennis, enabling each player to move to the next level. Learn how to keep score, learn the rules and etiquette of the game and learn how to rally and play points against one another to make learning the game fun and easy!

Our Intermediate Camp players are near the competitive level. Emphasis on point play will be stressed, as well as proper technique and court movement. These players are beginning to understand the importance of more serious tennis focus and play.

Oak Hollow Tennis Center

Monday - Friday, July 10 - Aug. 18, 9 a.m. - noon

$150 registration fee per week, $40 drop-in per day

Trailblazers Camp (Rising Grades 7 - 9)

Summer camp for older campers offers opportunities to develop leadership skills and a passion for recreation. Ours is filled with arts & crafts, field trips, team sports and much more. Be prepared to have tons of fun with plenty of laughs, smiles and adventures! Campers will receive a t-shirt. No camp Tuesday, July 4.

Oakview Recreation Center

Mondays - Fridays, July 3 - Aug. 11, 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. $80 per week, $70 per additional child ($64 for July 3 week)

Camp Ann (Ages 11+)

The Miracle League of High Point: 2023 Fall Season (Ages 5+)

Everyone deserves the chance to play baseball! This program teaches youth, teens and adults with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities the foundational skills of baseball through game play, sportsmanship and social engagement with peers. Mighty Mite Tiaras Cheer Team (Ages 4 - 6)

Our Mighty Mite Tiaras cheerleading program teaches younger athletes the essential skills to lead the crowd in enthusiastically supporting their team! Participants will learn cheers, jumping techniques and proper hand and body movement. There is no stunting, just a big focus on fun! The Tiaras will perform at halftime during the home youth football games on Saturdays and end their season with a performance at High Point Parks & Recreation's annual cheer exhibition!

(Ages 5 - 12)

Let's Make Some Racquet! (Ages 5 - 12)

R.E.D. Zone youth football league and cheer teams are back for a fourth season! This partnership between the High Point, Greensboro and Thomasville Parks & Recreation departments focuses on recreation, education & development, or "R.E.D." The new season will offer more teams, new faces, a community-driven focus and minimal travel. Paddle Battle Ball is an open-gym program focusing on the games of pingpong, pickleball and badminton. Stop by and play some of these paddle sports during this free, open play time and partake in some friendly competition!

Our 30 & Older League is for the ballers that want to show that they still have game! Assemble your squad to see where your team stands in the rankings of the best in the Triad, with a minimum eight-game regular season and a singleelimination tournament. Tournament champion receives championship shirts and a team trophy; tournament runnerup receives a team trophy.

Alternative Performing Arts Ballet & Tap Class (Ages 3 - 5) Students will work on flexibility and learn foundational ballet skills and positions in the first half of this fun, engaging class. Trails & Greenways

High Point Greenway

The High Point Greenway is a 4.9-mile paved trail beginning at Armstrong Park (305 E. Parkway Ave.) and ending at Piedmont Environmental Center (1220 Penny Road).

High Point City Lake Park Trail - 0.5 miles (This trail connects High Point City Lake Park with the Piedmont Environmental Center)

Bicentennial Greenway

The 6.2-mile High Point section of the Bicentennial Greenway begins at the Piedmont Environmental Center (1220 Penny Road) and runs to Gallimore Dairy Road. The Greenway then travels through Greensboro, connecting to the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.

Natural Surface Trails

High Point offers 6.6 miles of natural surface trails through hardwood and pine forests and lakeside habitats in the North and South Preserves at the Piedmont Environmental Center (1220 Penny Road).

Southwest Heritage Greenway

This .44-mile paved trail runs between Vail Avenue and Grimes Avenue, with parking located at the Southside Recreation Center (401 Taylor Ave.). From Taylor Avenue to Grimes Avenue, enjoy the Botanical Woodland Teaching Garden, a helixshaped walkway that combines art with nature.

West End Cross Country Course & Walking Trail

A 1.5-mile natural surface walking trail is located at West End Park (1701 Edgewood Drive). This course can be reserved by groups for a cross country meet for $100 per meet. Please call 336.883.3480 to check availability.

Urban Hikes

In partnership with the High Point Library, we've created an Urban Hikes Map with eight trails starting from the High Point Public Library. All the hikes are accessible by sidewalk.

Allen Jay Recreation Center and Park (1073 E. Springfield Road): one loop = .5 miles

Burnett Park (1051 Montlieu Ave.): one loop = .3 miles

Washington Terrace Park (101 Gordon St.): one loop = .3 miles
