SAN MARCOS HOLIDAY PARADE In December 2019, San Marcos Key Club attended the San Marcos Holiday Parade. This volunteer event was hosted by the members of Lake San Marcos Kiwanis club. Many members from both San Marcos Key Club and Mission Hill Key Club came out to show their passion for service and strengthen the connection with their sponsor, the Lake San Marcos Kiwanis club. They helped decorate the Kiwanis parade float and trailer with a Christmas themed design and a large Kiwanis banner. The volunteers also sorted through hundreds of children’s books and ensured that the appropriate Kiwanis sticker label was on each book.
Later, the volunteers walked along the parade route alongside the Kiwanis parade float, handing out books to the children on the street. The San Marcos Holiday Parade was a great opportunity for San Marcos Key Clubbers to collaborate with both the Mission Hills club and the Kiwanis club, for a truly local community event. Members note that the day was “filled with joy seeing all of the children receive donated books”. This outreach program is a part of the Kiwanis club’s focus on enriching the educational opportunities of young children.
