The Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp Program provided 26 students the opportunity to travel to Queenstown, NZ for a week of heartthumping adventure. The ski fields were Remarkable by name, and remarkable by nature. Whilst few were able to master the ‘decent down the mountain’, many students enjoyed their maiden voyage into the snow in what is widely considered some of the most spectacular mountain terrain in the world. Jet boating up the Dart River (and paddling back down it), allowed students to take in the pristine beauty of the alpine region. Clearly Mother Nature was going through a period of glacial melt, producing wild and, at times, unforgiving white water. But through determination and teamwork the boys were able to work their way down the Karawai River. At the beginning of the Maori ceremony Mr Harrup was made an honorary “Maori Chief” — much to the delight of the De La tribe. And by week’s end, the De La boys had gained a real respect for both the physical and cultural dimensions of the land of the long white cloud. “Choice bro”.
