Il triestino per sua natura è festaiolo e godereccio in una città che sembra nata appositamente a conseguire tal proposito. Un motto di saggezza popolare in dialetto recita “la vita che voio xe a Barcola su un scoio” e questo racchiude in sé la vita estiva a Trieste: “la vita che voglio è a Barcola su uno scoglio”. Nei tardi pomeriggi estivi la riviera barcolana si popola di triestini che sono usciti dal lavoro o di turisti che approfittano delle ultime ore del giorno per godersi qualche raggio di sole o per fare l’ultimo toc [tuffo veloce] della giornata. E dopo aver rinfrescato lo spirito, bisogna appagare lo stomaco. Magari in un’osmiza sul Carso. Cos’è un’osmiza? Né ristorante, né agriturismo, ma un luogo dove gustare vini e prodotti locali (insaccati, affettati, formaggi, uova); una tradizione risalente al periodo austroungarico, quando fu autorizzato ai contadini di vendere i loro prodotti direttamente nelle loro cantine. Inizialmente per otto giorni (in sloveno otto si dice osem, da qui la parola osmiza), ora seguono aperture cicliche e periodiche segnalate sul sito www.osmize.com Non c’è abbinamento migliore di un toc al tramonto seguito da una serata in osmiza, magari in una di quelle che, grazie ad una posizione invidiabile, godono di una vista aperta sul nostro bel golfo. Tra le oltre 100 osmize presenti sul territorio, solamente 8 sono osmize sul mare.
By nature, the people of Trieste are party-goers and fun-loving in a city that seems to have been created specifically for this purpose. A motto of popular wisdom in dialect reads “la vita che voio xe a Barcola su un scoio” [the life I want is in Barcola on a rock] and this is summer life in Trieste in a nutshell. On late summer afternoons, the Barcolana Riviera is filled with locals who have just got out of work or with tourists who take advantage of the last hours of the day to enjoy a few rays of sunshine or take the last “toc” [quick dip] of the day. And after refreshing the spirit, it is time to satisfy the stomach. Perhaps in an osmiza on the Karst. What is an osmiza? Neither a restaurant nor a holiday farm, but a place where you can taste wines and local products (sausages, cold cuts, cheese, eggs); a tradition dating back to the Austro-Hungarian period, when farmers were allowed to sell their products directly in their cellars. Initially open for eight days (in Slovenian eight is osem, hence the word osmiza), they now follow cyclical and periodic openings reported on the website www.osmize.com There is no better combination than a toc at sunset followed by an evening in an osmiza, perhaps in one of those that, thanks to their enviable position, enjoy an open view of our beautiful gulf. Of the over 100 osmizas in the area, only 8 overlook the sea.

La strada per raggiungerla è un po’ stretta ma molto suggestiva, come la vista che si gode dalla terrazza alberata. A pochi passi di quest’osmiza attiva dal 1950 si trova un ampio parcheggio. – The road to reach it is a bit narrow but really charming, like the view from the tree-lined terrace. There is a large car park just a few steps away from this restaurant, which has been open since 1950.
