Editorz Notez Well, that’s a wrap! 2021 is officially in the books. On the cover...a shot from Batchelor’s Toy Run at Webbs Mill in Spring Hope, N.C. Photo by Melynda “Moe” Snead. You can see the dust flying in the picture. What a dry day that was! We had been in a drought for quite some time and we were even under a burn ban. Temps were around 70 degrees, though, so it was a t-shirt kinda day! Great day to ride and great location to have the Toy Run! See pages 24-25 for coverage of that event. Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson had several event since the Fall Rally...you can see some of them on pages 12-13 in this issue. Also, check out their Facebook page for videos and photos. Plus, you can view some of their upcoming adventures. Their Facebook page is: www.Facebook.com/MBHarleyDavidson Check out all of our “Livin’ The Life” stories throughout this issue! There are so many out there. If you would like, please send us yours. We would love to hear all about it! We want to wish you and yours a very happy and prosperous New Year! We hope you can find many scenic and winding roads to ride, happy family to hold, many new friendships to cherish, and good health to enjoy all of these things. But most importantly we hope that you find peace and comfort in knowing that God is with you, through bad times, tough times, when you are in pain, and even when you are lost! Have faith in Him! He will get you through whatever it is that you may face...because He is with you...all the time! God Bless you and yours! We’ll see you out on the road, Behind Barz!!!

nc packs4 patriots Support Our Local Heroes
We are a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Packing care packages for deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. We also provide support for troops at home, their families and veterans.
Photo above: Thank you to these North Carolina National Guard soldiers who volunteered to help us with sorting and organizing !
We have had a very busy year, while working through the challenges of Covid. Some of the challenges include losing the support of organizations who traditionally support us with fundraisers. We had to stop volunteer groups due to our small space which put more work on our team of volunteers who worked singularly or in small teams. Photo above: Supporting our troops! We met these challenges while supporting troops through deployments, quarantines, homeland activations. We continued with support from caring volunteers and donors who want our troops to know that America cares about and appreciates their service. We will be posting our yearly statistics soon. Please continue to support our troops by: ~ order needed items from our Amazon list ~ support us with financial donations for postage Photo above: ~ send cards and letters of support Big, huge, ginormous THANK YOU to this Ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need. Please don’t forget our military members who are serving away from home and family this year. Thank you!

Jones Gap State Park ‘ROUND THE WORLD TRIP Ticked off another state today on my round the world trip. Took a quick day trip from Ashville, NC south to the South Carolina border. Stopped for a snack in Jones Gap State Park (the huge pond photo is an old trout hatchery - some nice sized brook trout in there), then came back up over the mountains on Rt. 276 via Bald Rock and Ceasar’s Head. Awesome ride if you’re ever in the area! Mike Barr from Westchester County, New York.

Livin' The James Reynolds Quakertown, PA
LIFE
April 15th, 2016, I was on my way home from my shop in Allentown, PA, going south on 309 to Quakertown. I was coming down the hill before Cherry Road in the right lane, it was 9:55 pm when I was getting close to the intersection. I had the green as I got close...maybe 5 car lengths and a car turned in front of me. I tried to go left to go around the back of the car but she stopped mid turn. I hit the car doing about 50 but was sideways ‘cause I was trying to miss her. My right leg was caught between my air cleaner and the car. I was riding an ‘06 Roadstar 1700 so it was heavy and crushed the bone 6” above my knee. I got slammed! Femur bone went through the skin, a huge chunk was ripped from my calf, I dislocated my shoulder, and my urethra was torn 90% off. I could hear cars inches from my head trying to go around and the girl (later on told this) was straddling my head because I was almost hit twice. I was bleeding out and luckily a nurse stopped while on her way home or I’d be dead. I was taken to Trauma Center in Bethlehem in and out of passing out but freaked out the emt ‘cause I’d wake up and tell her what intersections we were passing through. 11 hours in surgery 4 days ICU...160 days total hospitalization and 43 operations later with 2 more to go. My wife hung around until 2018 just after my leg was amputated and moved to Florida with her boyfriend. Being made to feel like a burden I asked my son to go to the corner market to get snacks with the intention of getting myself in the bathroom to shoot myself in the head and not make a huge mess. He didn’t go and figured out what I was gonna do and called the cops, 5 days in psych ward. I learned a lot during that time especially that lyrica amplifies suicidal thoughts. After I got home I got sick and it was discovered I have a pituitary gland tumor at the base of my brain 1.65 cm which I guess is big. I’m taking meds for it and it’s finally getting smaller. Bought the bike, got training wheels for it, modified the brakes, and put a wheelchair rack on it and rode as much as I could. I met my girlfriend, Beth, through an amputee group that asked me to tell my tale. I had osseointegration surgery that implanted a rod in my leg 2020 and am learning how to walk with it. I’ve been on around bikes since I was 5 and I was more upset that my bike was trashed then losing my leg..lol. I’m back doing my artwork and leathercraft, I also work as a Christmas tree and moss wall designer. Got 4 cats, 3 ferrets and a scorpion and my girlfriend, Beth, who is my rock! I’m hoping to ride next year after I save up funds for a portable garage and a starter, rotor and stator. It’s a big ugly tank but it’s mine and I miss riding when it’s down. A few of my friends gave up riding after my accident, which I cant do, my bike is my therapy and in my blood. After everything I went through, especially when the orthopedic doctor told me I’ll never walk again, I was too fat for a prosthetic and bikers accidents paid for the addition on his beach house I was determined to get back in the wind....there’s a lot of stuff I left out because I could write a whole book of the horrible things that happened in the hospital. It was like going into Cheers and I was Norm. A lot of great people helped me through my time but that’s a whole different story....Hope this helps some fellow bikers.

THE BIG 60 On November 28th my nephew, Carl Moore III and his wife, Amber Lynn Moore hosted and gave my first and my one and only birthday party. Carl told me he didn’t want me to do anything but sit in my butt and enjoy myself and let me tell you I definitely did. I had an absolutely wonderful time. He went all out! He cooked a pig, chicken, boiled potatoes, baked beans, green beans, cole slaw and rolls. We had two, lemonade, water and a variety of sodas. He really did an amazing job on the cooking because everything was delicious. People kept coming up to me telling me how good the food was. His Daddy would have been so proud of the job he did. His Dad loved cooking out like that and was good at it. Seems like he taught his son very well. Thank you Bo and Amber for all that you did. You really made my 60th birthday a special one. Thanks to everybody else that pitched in to help.....my other half, Carlos, my best friends from Florida, Larry-Tammy Johnson, my great nephews; Mason Moore and Jase Moore, my nephew, Keith Griffin and my brother Tony Moore. Y’all really made this old lady feel special. I’ll never forget all that you did. I love each one of all with everything in me. Thank each and every one of y’all that came to celebrate my birthday. Thanks to my cousin and good friend Rachel Braswell for taking me out to ride in her slingshot and to her husband, David Braswell for giving up his hat so it wouldn’t blow my hair every where. I know he loves me cause he don’t just give his hat up!!! lol Thanks for my special visit to see Rachel Faulkner and her husband, Peter. Two people that mean the world to me. That was one of the best gifts any one could have given me. To all of y’all who came to visit, and brought cards and gifts..... THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!! I LOVE YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart. Exploring Sidecars
Story and photos: Lucinda Belden Maybe you are stubborn like me and not ready to give up riding yet. As some of us get older, holding up a bike, pushing a bike or backing it up doesn’t always cooperate with our back or knees. Or maybe you just have companions who would be more comfortable riding beside you. If you are looking for options to keep on exploring the open roads or bring along a reluctant companion, don’t pass up the concept of a sidecar. Here are some of the pros and cons to get you thinking: PROS * It still rides like a motorcycle on the open road, so you get that motorcycle feel. You still get to shift, feel the throttle, and control your corners. * The nostalgia is awesome! Be prepared to spend extra time at stops because you will be caught up in questions – and who doesn’t like to talk about their bike! We call that the ‘sidecar delay factor’.
CONS
Important Tips Getting Started
* If you are adding a sidecar to your existing motorcycle, you may need to add other features to help you with reverses, dampening, wobbles, two-wheel drive and other smooth operating options.
Tip#1 – If you plan on adding a sidecar to your existing motorcycle, be sure to thoroughly vet the vendor. When I first got started with sidecars, I knew ZERO. I bought a small tub with a universal kit. Tip#2 – no kits are universal! They all must be adapted, or different parts used to fit your motorcycle. Because I didn’t investigate the sidecar company, they attempted to put the sidecar on with what was available due to their lack of knowledge as well. They delivered my sidecar to me with a bent axle. After they fixed that, I took off on a road trip and my tire came off at about 60mph when I was less than 300 miles along. The ball bearings were completely disintegrated and later I found out the bearings were not even the correct kind to use. Vet your vendor and never use the sidecar vendor in Fort Worth, Texas!
* A sidecar can become a costly hobby if you don’t or can’t do some of the work yourself. (But what motorcycle isn’t!) * Finding a good vendor to get you started can be very difficult. There are only about 15,000 sidecarist in the U.S. and if you are lucky, maybe one vendor in a state. Your best way to find them - join sidecar Facebook groups and ask for referrals.
* You can adjust your sidecar options based on your budget. Going from stripped down to basic amenities to luxury. They do have sidecars with reverse gears, dampeners for wobbles, air-conditioned tubs and more.
18
www.BehindBarz.com
I did happily find the Texas Sidecar Company in Donie, Texas and they made all my riding dreams a reality. Tip#3 – You need to know how you plan to ride your sidecar. What type of roads, what locations and who will be riding in the sidecar if anyone or any special pet? All those numbers and details will determine how the sidecar is mounted, what tires will be used and how it will be toed-in for the smoothest ride possible. Note a good vendor will talk with you, listen, and help you match a sidecar with how you ride. Main Differences Between Motorcycle and Motorcycle with Sidecar * Turning left will be upper body strength and using your throttle skills. * Turning right you will still want to lean like you are on a motorcycle if you don’t have weight in the sidecar. Otherwise, the tub pops up in the air when you round a corner – we call that ‘flying the chair’. That can be fun though and you can practice your throttle skills with right turns too. No matter what type of sidecar you decide to get – a custom one mounted to your existing bike or a sidecar rig I hope you enjoy the ride! Kids-N-Motion Fundraiser
Organized by The Nash County Ghost Riders NASH COUNTY, NC The Nash County Ghost Riders MC (GRMC) conducted a fundraiser for “Kidz-N-Motion” on November 6th. All members of Nash County GRMC and their ole ladies worked extremely hard to ensure the fundraiser was a great success. The Club sold 100 chicken plates, raffled off over $500 in gift baskets, and sold 50/50 tickets to account for the total of $1,200.
John “JohnBoy” Shook and Kerry “Mason” Brubaker present $1,200.00 to Mrs. Shannon Barger, the director of Kidz-N-Motion on the ground s where the new Kidz-N-Motion facility will be constructed in Rocky Mount.

Batchelor’s 28th Annual Toy Run AT WEBBS MILL IN SPRING HOPE
24
SPRING HOPE, NC I would like to thank everyone that came out and joined Batchelor’s 28th Annual Toy Run on Saturday December 4th! Many riders and non riders came out to help put a smile on kids faces. We had a very successful run! There were approximately 140 bikes that participated in the ride to Ephesus Church where the toys (a trailer full) were dropped off. We also raised $6,950.00 that went to the Tar River Christian Family Ministries Toy Store. After the ride everyone returned to Webbs Mill for food and fun. There was also a 50/50 drawing, music, and one heck of a view of the Tar River with a gorgeous backdrop of Webbs Mill. We could not have done this without everyone who helped make this happen...Thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, Batchelor Toy Run Staff, all the cooks, all the bikers who participated and all those who gave toys and donations!

The Bullw Chro
By: Bob Seymour It’s really hard to comprehend that 2021 is in the history books and it’s 2022 already. 2021 was a year that holds many great memories of the thousands of miles ridden and hundreds of people Bullwinkle and I met but there was also a lot of heartache and tragedy in my personal life and the lives of my friends. At times the emotional load I was carrying was so heavy that I had to pull away from everything and almost everyone so I could regroup and get my head together again. I believe that 2021 was a year of transition and preparation for me for what 2022 holds. No one knows what lies ahead but in my spirit I sense something looming in the shadows that is just waiting for the right moment to manifest. For about 3 months I’ve felt the need to get away from everything and everyone that could distract me from being distracted from the things that add stress to my life. It was a struggle to ignore my phone and stay off social media the first few times I jumped on Bullwinkle and went away but it became easier to get off it each time I caught myself picking it up again. I didn’t realize how stressed and emotionally drained I had become until about the third time I packed up and rode off. While I was on one ride in northern Colorado I met some much younger people that don’t do social media and I’ve spent several days with them and found myself gaining new perspectives on many life issues. While pondering the things I experienced during the time I spent with my new friends I felt a sense of refreshing and renewal that I don’t think would have been possible had I not forced myself to step back from the work I do so I could get my thoughts together.

ys Rule” I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has felt the stress and anxiety caused by the financial and political atmosphere in the country today so I want to encourage everyone to take some time away from whatever is weighing on you. Shut down your social media and get on your scooter and ride the stress and anxiety out of your mind. Let the wind and the Spirit renew your perspective by taking the time and making an effort to meet new people with different lifestyles. Challenge yourself to leave your comfort zone and try new things and experience aspects of life you never considered before and go places where you can meet people who are not members of your own generation. Too often we allow ourselves to dwell in a mundane rut of existence and we miss opportunities to expand our perspectives and experience a more exciting and abundant life…..to the younger readers I’d say “old guys rule” and to us old guys I say if you want to feel young again get out of the rut that is little more than a grave with the ends kicked out and go hang out with some younger people and let them teach you some new tricks while you prove to them that we do indeed rule…..Make 2022 the year that you take back control of your life from the circumstances that surround you and determine in your heart that you overcome whatever life throws at you…...

the good news! Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak Thee Redeemed House biker Church
”FHL 2022” Ever try to look into the future, envision what it will look like,or see yourself in it’s surroundings? Having complete trust of confidence in the coming year leaves a lot to think about and wonder. We can have a desire for a certain expectation towards good things to happen. One can dream of a deep affection for a intense feeling to a purpose. In this Day and Age the future can look the same as the last two years. Whatever your circumstances or situations right now , all of us wonder about the news we see in this world. I think back to the first time I rode a motorcycle, after that first ride I wanted to ride again as soon as I could.
Each time I rode, other riders started to acknowledge me and I them. Each time I looked forward with a desire and expectancy for certain things to happen. Meeting other riders with this passion to ride provided an affection for other riders, at times it was intense even turning to a deep affection for Brotherhood / Sisterhood. I don’t want to reveal all of what I’m trying to reveal here in this writing of the future, it’s right around the bend, curve, and straight away. No matter what happens in this coming year, keep riding with complete trust in being confident of this one thing “keep riding” be expectant with a desire for certain things to happen. And keep hold of the intense feeling in the deep affection of being “free in the wind” Look to this future of the new year 2022 in defining these three words . 1. Faith; complete trusting confidence. 2. Hope; expecting a desire for certain things to happen. 3. Love ; hold on to the intense feelings of deep affection toward everyone and everything. FHL 2022 Faith, Hope, Love , and the greatest of these is LOVE ... In JESUS Name . Love , Jesus Freak Rodger.

Big shout out to all the ladies with Women of Worth Moto Group, commonly known as WWMG. Mid October these ladies hit the road along with their fellow sisters, brothers, and the entire community for the 9th annual Wicked in Pink Ride, all to raise money for the Sister Caritas Cancer Center patient assistance fund.
Story & Photos: Nicole Mullins
Not only did they come from near and far for this amazing cause however they also dressed for the occasion. Just look at these girls. They know their worth and help others do the same. Not familiar with WWMG?

My wife and I met in Florida in 2008 and married in 2010. She is from Peru and had never been on a motorcycle until she met me. Ever since her first ride she was hooked on riding with me! She loves to ride. I work a lot and she will call me and ask me if I want to go for a ride and by the time I get home she is ready to go. It’s amazing the way it feels to have someone with you on your bike just loving the time together with no destination in mind because it’s the time together that matters. I’m looking forward to seeing us grow older together and also enjoying the open road together. I tell people that I’m living the dream on a daily basis. May the road be good to everyone on it and enjoy the time we get. Also, enjoy the wind we get to spend in it. Ride safe everyone.

From The Mind of Well, this has all came to an end. This winter is the first time in awhile I could sleep and wake up and step out to the shed and fire my bike up with no hesitation. I found this sweet cheap battery at an auto parts store. Since I don’t have permission to advertise for this company, I will just say I was in the zone. Okay? If you need more help than that then I don’t know what you need..
Big Ed aka 2Timer
Hello Again My Happy People! Finally, after many years of owning my bike and buying these name brand batteries, I found one that’s worth something. It came from an Auto parts store which was surprising to me. For years I kept buying from the catalog, which I will not speak its name and trust me, this catalog seems to be the one stop shop for all things motorcycle. Every time the cold would come in and the frost would hit hard I would try to crank my bike and I would get the ol’ hit and miss. And yes, I have also had a battery tender on it, but they didn’t seem to help during the really cold nights. We had a ride coming up recently and I was worried that I would once again be scrambling to snatch out the battery and carry it into the house to help warm it up and also hook it up to a charger. I have even missed rides simply because I couldn’t get the bike to turn over. I was seriously considering finding some high performance coils or something because my bike always seemed to have trouble starting. I was literally wishing there was a blue pill to get my bike acting like it was a teenager or something.

I stubble on this because of a ride we had coming up. It was Thursday night when me and the brothers were reminded of the upcoming ride and I knew it had already been battery killing cold out for the past couple of days. I was worried that I would be stranded looking at a limp ride. HAHAHA! Okay that’s kinda ga*…but anyway, I went home later that night and tested my fears. Sure enough, she was dead as f***. I was like damnit man. I had to work the next day and I didn’t have time to hit the Harley shop. Then a guy I work with told me to stop by the zone and get one there. I was like, bro! I don’t want some POS battery. He said, its always worked out for him and he’s been buying his battery form the auto parts store ever since. So, with not much time on my side, I slid into the zone and snatched up a battery. I was feeling it man. I just had this feeling I was going to kill 100 clams for a POS. Money is not something I can just kill when you got a big family and hungry mouths to feed. So yeah, I was skeptical. I installed the shock box and fired it up. I wasn’t worried at that moment because I just got this battery so yeah it’s going to work. I rode the ride that day and life went on. I rode the bike a few more times after the install and still no worries. All is good in 2Timer land man, but there hasn’t been a true test yet. Well, that changed just the other day. We had this ride coming up and I went to check the oil and tighten a few bolts to be sure I was going to come home just as I left. I’ve been a mechanic of companies all my life and I just know if God didn’t build it, it will fail. We have had some good frosty mornings in the past couple of weeks and it was frosty when I stepped outside to crank the bike. I stood there staring at my ignition switch getting myself prepped and ready for the disappointment. I put the bike in neutral and closed my eyes. I hit the switch…The bike fired up like a dream. Not slow mo, no maybe I will or I won’t. It was bam on point y’all! I was happy as a fat guy in a bakery shop. I said to myself, HELL YEAH! I hit the highway like I’d found the golden ticket to the chocolate factory son.

Big Ed... Speaking of rides, this past one that happened on the weekend of December 11th was a good one. It was a ride for a sweet couple, James and Treva. Treva has been going through a rough ordeal and I’m not going to go into detail, but this smiling cheerful, soul needed a show of love and support, and brothers and sisters, she received it well. With the love of the local community and with the help of The Unspoken Sons MC, we did nearly a 60 mile ride. There were 144 motorcycles that participated in the ride. The ride carried us through Lenoir, Wayne and Green Counties. I performed a few traffic blocks and let me tell you, the line of bikes seemed to go on for miles. It’s amazing the show of love and support the biker community will show for one of their own. After the ride there were BBQ plates awaiting and great conversation. I know God will hear our pipes and our prayers. I wish James and Treva many blessings and may this ride be beneficial to their need. I want to thank everyone who came out to ride and also show their love. I know they are very thankful.
Happy New Year from all of us at Nationwide Ins.
James and Treva Well folks, this is where I leave you this go ‘round. I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and hope that Joe leaves a little bit of America left for us to rebuild once his term is OVER! May y’all be safe and I hope once again to see you in the wind, Behind Barz.
