Over a Cappuccino with

GEETHIKA KANUMILLI A renowned fashion designer started her label at a very young age of twenty. Believes in making comfortable yet chic outfits with a blend of traditional embroidery in refreshing colours. 10 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

LIFESTYLE |

What inspired you to become a fashion designer and opening your label? I’ve been very inclined towards fashion since my childhood. I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Actually, I first wanted to be an air hostess - till my 2nd grade (but I later realized that I only wanted to be an air hostess because dressed well and looked fancy). In my 2-3rd grade, I started playing online Barbie games/ dress up games, that’s where I learnt what a fashion designer means and does. I decided on my 4th grade that I’m going to be a fashion designer. What is a typical day like in your life? Home - store – home What does it take to be successful in the field you excel in? Be original, be consistent and be passionate. What do you in your free time when you’re not working? Spending time with family, friends. I like being alone sometimes too. I love my me time.

How Covid has affected the fashion industry and what are the ways one can evolve and deal with the situation? Covid was a reality check to everybody. And we all needed that to be honest. There were many jobs lost. Even after the lockdown was lifted, customers were scared to walk in into stores to buy. We pledged to gradually foster changes within our own brand and adapt sustainable fashion that causes minimum damage to the environment. Our brand stands by the thought that grassroot industries need to be empowered at ground levels by investing in resources like labour, raw material, etc. Our support would help create a cycle of empowerment which will eventually promote homegrown businesses and help strengthen the economy. But there’s a good side to this covid situation as well, the speed with which collections were being produced has been reduced. People are inclining towards producing stuff ethically and sustainably. Which is really good. Top 3 fashion trends right now? 1. Flared jeans/mom jeans

2. Corsets/bustiers 3. Slip dresses - The slip dresses of the ‘90s have become a wardrobe staple at this point, but let’s not forget that we have the decade’s minimalist aesthetic to thank for these easy slips.

Rapid Fire If you are given a genie and have to make 2 wishes what will you wish? 1. Happy, healthy, green world 2. To be able to help as many people as possible. Are you a coffee or a tea person? Coffee Person If you are paired opposite Shahrukh Khan what will be the title of the movie? Made in India. If you are left in a supermarket and asked to pick up only 3 things what would you pick? Sanitiser, sanitiser & more sanitiser.

Theobroma Patisserie

Country’s favourite chain of patisseries and cafes, Theobroma is here, bringing along with their delish signature dishes and desserts. Founded as a family run business in 2004 by sisters Tina Messman Wykes and Kainaz Messman Harchandrai, Theobroma opens up not one, but four outlets across different locations. The retro-modern look and quaint pastel colored décor definitely created a warm and welcoming ambience. The fragrance of freshly baked breads and brownies wafted through the air, enveloping our senses and making us indulge and enjoy the visually enticing dishes. We’re sure your tummies are also rumbling for some sweet treats. The Croissants and Wholewheat Sourdough Bread with crispy crusts are a delight to the tastebuds, they are just wholesome and marvelous. Their Mava Cake is made to the founder’s grandmother’s recipe and one of our favourites. And don’t step out without trying their Millionaire Brownie. It’s a 3 layered slice of heaven and very aptly named Millionaire, for it’s richly made of brownie, buttery caramel and a thick layer of chocolate. Enough to put you into a food coma. Address: Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Fonce Chocolatier and Café

The winter in city is getting exciting asFonce has opened doors for us to indulge in artisanal chocolates. Founded and owned by entrepreneur couple Deepa Reddy and Jaikar Reddy is laced with their memories from travels around the world and their shared love for chocolates. Their passion for chocolates took them to destinations like Switzerland, Italy and Dubai, that only increased their interested in the process of creating chocolates. As soon as you step into the café, you are transported to a mystical place. The viewing gallery which offers a glimpse of live chocolate kitchen, comfortable outdoor seating, artwork and architecture that is a nod to the Moroccan heritage, and the unforgettable green passage that houses over 80 varieties of exotic plants is a sight to behold, and finished with hues of gold and soft velvet touches on the walls. The aura of the café will leave you completely awe-struck. Their artisanal chocolates are devoid of chemicals and preservatives. Their melt-in-the-mouth bonbons and chocolate coated nuts are a must-try. We personally loved their bite-sized chocolates with a filling of matcha, caramel and orange. Their experimental varieties also include black pepper and cheese filling in chocolates, so don’ forget to try those if you want mix things up! Address: Rd.No. 59, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

With large windows, soothing greenery, incredible lighting and a beautiful staircase, the aesthetically pleasing cafĂŠ looks warm and inviting. Perfect for evening hangouts, as it also offers boards games, so you end up having a memorable time. The breakfast menu is incredible with a diversified lunch and dinner spread. Be it quick munchies like chicken popcorn or filling foods like pizzas and grilled fish, the place offers an elated experience. The Jalapeno poppers and chicken popcorn made a tasteful start, then came in the massive, aptly Baahubali Burgers. Having a wide range of menu makes for a table full of assorted dishes for you to enjoy. It would be unfair not to mention the Blueberry cheesecake that was served for dessert. So delish that we would go back just for another bite. Address: Gachibowli, Hyderabad

Café Rasasvada

The sun setting over the lake for view along with a cup of hot chocolate, away from the hustle of the city, sounds so peaceful, right? Tucked away in warm interiors, this café is a hidden gem for someone who wants to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace along with the fresh lake breeze. The sunset hour here is pure gold. What’s more exciting is that this café works a joyful co-working space. Yes, you read that right! Work from home, away from home. The ambience of this will leave you with a full tummy and a happy soul. Enjoy your meal and work overseeing the most amazing lake and hills that Hyderabad can offer. Creamy crispy Potpie andhot chocolate were delicious. Asparagus ice cream is something that caught our attention, and we’re thankful it did, for though experimental it is surprisingly good. What took the prize was a plate of creamy mashed potatoes and crispy Schnitzel, the flavours just exploding in our mouths. Address: Khajaguda, Hyderabad.

La Prezzo

We don’t think our city can never have enough pizzerias. La Prezzo here is one the few places that offer wood fired pizzas and have the best pizzas in town. The seating is completely outdoor, nicely lit with lots of plants. And while you wait for your pizzas to arrive, beat your friends in a game Jenga. The vibes of the place are playful and wholesome. A perfect place to have a fun evening along with some hearty Italian dishes and authentic wood fired delectable pizzas. Head over for fun evening and treat your tastebuds with what they have craving for all this time, Pizzas! They make their own base and avoid using processed foods, which make the food even more flavoursome. The Fungo Pizza and cheese ball shots were the most recommended, and they did not disappoint. Fungo Pizza and garlic bread was hands down the best we’ve had in recent times. Address: Indira Nagar, Hyderabad

Pakka Local Restaraunt

Filmy themed décor and some great south Indian cuisine is what this restaurant is all about. Movie themed décor, and dishes named after movies give this place an exciting and quirky edge. The ambience is peaceful, with good lighting that makes for a good family dinner. The décor is what’s unique about this place. The entrance has posters of movies and actors plastered across the walls, while the seating area has iconic scenes from movies printed on them. Makes a great opportunity for a photo op. The staff is very attentive and helpful, which made the dining experience all the more enjoyable. True to it’s name the place has the best local dishes. Kodi Pulao, Chettinadu Mutton and Mutton Chapli Kabab are exquisite and true to their authentic taste. But, the main attractions of the evening were the Bahubali Biryani, that is 4 biryanis in one plate and Nalli Gosht Biryani! Heaven for biryani lovers. When in the City of Nawabs, treat yourself to royalty. The ambience just gives out elegance and charisma, truly a royal setting. Riwayat have curated an superlative extended menu and gave themselves a Royal makeover. Radiant chandeliers, grand seating, wooden tones for dĂŠcor, delicate cutlery; all in all, a Nawabi experience. And this is not it, Live Ghazal performances for a pleasant, romantic evening is in store for you. The extended menu have the authentic staples like Margh and Shorba, but Beetroot halwa is a new addition, and definitely a must-try. The restaurant is open from Noon to Midnight, so a late-night treat is definitely on! We indulged in Margh, that was served with khameeri naan. The Margh was rich and the meat was tender, which suited the wintery night. The beetroot halwa is what stole the show. Rich and loaded with nuts, it was just the right amount of sweet to give a wonderful finish to our dinner. Address: Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Premium Lounge by Pista House

Pista House is household name and needs no introduction. Starting out with serving the best Haleem in the city, they steadily built up an extensive menu. And today they launched their Premium Lounge, a Modern Indian Bistro, with Gourmet style culinary fusion with Indian Classics. The ambience is very chilled out with comfortable seating, good lighting and spaciousness. From fried chicken to khabsa, chaat to macroons, the menu has such an assortment of delicious dishes that you will be spoilt for choice. The Fish burger and Margherita pizza were amazing in terms of flavour. Broasted chicken with hummus and garlic sauce along with French fries, makes for a filling and hearty meal. The colourful Macaroons and Churros are delightful new additions, but the pick of all was the energizing Zafraani Chai. Brewed to perfection, it’s a musttry for all the Chai Lovers. Cravery Café

The Pulled cheese garlic bread and Mac ’n’ Cheese bowl is the yummiest we’ve had in recent times. We loved the Cravery signature Hot Chocolate with marshmallows, it is just divine for the winter evenings and the Mozzarella sticks give the biggest cheese pull. The Blueberry and Rosemary cooler was something new, but had a very refreshing taste. The aura is very aesthetically pleasing and gives off a cosy Pinterest theme vibe. The place has rustic couches, dim lighting and cosy corners. The place is well organized and detailed. Cravery is also very particular about the presentation of their dishes, and their skills are surely on point, which made the food look very appetizing. It’s the perfect place to catch up with an old friend, or a romantic date, or just to spend some me-time with yourself. Snuggle up in their cosy corner with a book and a steaming cup of Hot Chocolate for a delish experience. Address: Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Suit Up!

Blazers are no longer resigned to just board meetings and client presentations. If styled right, they can add just the right amount of cool to your look. Suits and blazers are being styled in various ways, from airport looks to dinner dates and black-tie galas. Priyanka Chopra recently blew us away with her “just drape over the shoulder white blazer and pink high-waisted trousers. Another Boss Lady to rock the blazer is our Shilpa Reddy, in classic colours of white and blue, tailored to fit and paired with black heels. Instagram: @priyankachopra, @shilpareddy.official

Belt it Out

Draping Saree has been an ever-evolving trend and to add to that, waist belts are making their way to give a dose of eccentricity. Waist belts over sarees are in rage, and they look the prefect combination of traditional with a touch of quirky. Recently Katrina Kaif paired a white leather belt over a gorgeous pink printed saree, and carried the look with elegance and grace, that she always exuberates. Blogger Divya Boppana carried this look with the same elegance, by pairing a black belt over a plain saree, adding the quirk with her cat eyes sunglasses. Pleated Pretty

Ruffles on sarees and dupattas are in trend, and this a must-have for your wardrobe, for it’s unique look as well as for itsversatility. Ruffles give an edge to any outfit, if styled correctly. Shilpa Shetty has sported this look plain and printed sarees, while Shiwangi Viajywargiya donned a ruffled dupatta on her outfit for her festive look. Fusing Ethnic and Modern

Traditional jewellery on modern/contemporary outfit is in vogue right now. Amp up your style quotient with pairing them right. Here we can see how Sonam Kapoor have paired a gorgeous Kundan necklace with her blazer that had a flattering neckline. Our very own Ishna Rawlani, sported this look by pairing a set of grand Chaandbalis with a contemporary outfit to give it that edgy look. Tropical Trends

It’s only fair to feature these pretty tropical prints for our Summer’21. These pretty and chic prints synonymous with the cool summer breeze at a beach, or a trip to the green meadows. Simple is the way to go with these prints as you don’t want to overwhelm the outfit. Alia Bhatt has paired her peach mini dress with neon heels, while our blogger Esha Rao’s flowy dress with a simple bindi is just dreamy. Instagram: @aliaabhatt, @_thefashionpsychic_

Chic PJs

Even though the lockdown is over, we don’t think that the comfortable yet stylish pjs are going anywhere, they’re here to stay. Over the quarantine period, pjs got a makeover, from being just sleepwear to stylish and quirky sleep outfits. Now, they range from cute cartoon prints to handloom prints. And even in different styles like kaftan to maxi dresses, there’s a plethora of choices. Here we can see Anushka Sharma and Gulnar Virk in adorable pjs, yet looking à la mode. Handwoven Vogue

Handloom and handwoven fabric will never go out of fashion. You just need to add a personal touch to this traditional art and create your own stylish outfit. Be it Ikhat, Chanderi, Bandhani, or just a simple cotton fabric, any of those could become a trendy dress or a classy saree. Like here we can see how pretty Dia Mirza looks in a handwoven saree with polka dots. Similar to that, beauty blogger Shreemayi Reddy’s has given this look a personal touch, as she pairs her saree with a modish blouse. The way she effortlessly carries the outfit gives another dimension to the look. Instagram: @diamirzaofficial, @shreemayireddy

Metallic Fad

Accessorizing is an important part of styling and outfit, and choosing the right accessories is the rule. Oxidised Jewellery is the new fad, as it’s versatility gives more options to explore. Black metal jewellery basically works with most outfits, but suits the Indo-western look perfectly. Here Kriti Sanon has paired heavy neckpieces with a plain white outfit, that compliment each other well. And we have Vijaya Tupurani pairing a rustic choker and heavy earrings with a simple yet elegant saree. Instagram: @kritisanon, @vijaya.tupurani 28 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

Here are a few nail designs you should give a try: Matte Nails

Get yourself some matte nail, we recommend colours like black, grey and brown for this style. Matte nails give a very bold, plain yet classy look. The best thing about them is that they go on with any outfit.

Floral Art Nails

If you’re looking for a soft girl look, we’d suggest you a simple floral art design. For this design, we’d highly recommend shades of pink nude and let your design be highlighted with the colour white. Another great design you try with this style to incorporate leaves and clouds as well.

Marble Nails

A very classy and stylish nail design would be marble nails. You can always throw in some glitter and metallic colours in this look. We suggest you get this look in black with scattered gold foil.

Red French

If you’re a minimalist person then this design should be your go-to nail look. We get a normal white french manicure, so at your next nail appointment, try this elegant red french look. A side tip, pair this look with a red pantsuit and a white T-shirt. TULIP - JANUARY, 2021 41

These were some of our 2021 picks. However, getting your nails done is fun but your nails also require constant care. Here is a quick and easy DIY nail care that you can do at home.

Nail care DIY:

Step 1: Clean off your nail polish, make sure there isn’t any residue left. Step 2: Clip your nails and give them the desired shape. Step 3: Push your cuticles back with a cuticle tool. Step 4: Exfoliate your hands with a scrub. Step 5: Moisture your hand and nails, you can use nail creams or even oils. And done! Girl, you got yourself some pretty smooth nails!

“One thing that fascinates me about nail art is the creation, where one can experiment with unique nail paints and nail accessories, and how impressive it turns out without much trouble. There are also nail art sets which come with stamps and stickers, it's effortless to apply without taking much time. The wide range of nail paints are evolving, such as textured nail paints of Nykaa is itself gives a flawless manicure look, and MyGlam has some good subtle nail paints that one can rock in any occasion. Nail paints add a very classic touch to my look altogether and my all-time favourite colours would be in the shade of nudes,”

Bidisha Barik, Aspiring Psychologist.

42 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

“Before any nail polish application, I think it’s very important to take off your previous nail polish. I usually apply coconut oil on my nails to keep them healthy and yes it can get greasy, that’s why I apply this at night so that there isn’t a mess. I would also suggest vaseline because it’s easily available and secondly because it acts as a barrier between the air and your nails and helps them self repair. I always go for nude shades from halal nail polish brands because that’s how I like my nails, simple and classy,”

Fatima Khan,

Owner - Durrani Atelier.

BUT FIRST, SKINCARE | BEAUTY

Very few people are fortunate to take up their passion as their profession. When you have a passion for something then you tend not only to be better at it, but you work harder at it too. Probably, Dr. Aashna Reddy is one of those! Being a patient herself growing up, the science of skin really intrigued her and pushed her further to get into dermatology. She’s currently pursuing her higher studies in dermatology and wishes not only to do the best for her patients but also venture into the research side of it. How do we know what skin type we have? Knowing your skin type is a crucial step to begin the journey of SKINCARE and using the right skin care products. The easiest way to find out if your skin is oily, dry or a combination of both, is by simply putting a dry tissue on your face the first thing in the morning. If the tissue gets oily then you have oily skin, if it doesn’t then you have dry skin and if only your T zone (the forehead, nose and chin) gets the tissue oily then you have combination skin. This technique guides you to ultimately choose the best products for your skin. What is the recommended regimen to achieve the best version of our skin? The skin is the largest organ of your body. You must invest time and effort and follow the regimen diligently to achieve the best version of your skin. There are 3 golden rules to it CLEANSE,TREAT AND MOISTURISE. AM REGIMEN – Cleanse - use a cleanser, Treat – with a layer of serum and use a moisturizer best suited for your skin type. The morning routine must include a sunscreen with aSPF of at least 30 or more even if you are indoors or on a rainy day. PM ROUTINE - Cleanse Cleanse Cleanse. The crucial step in a bed time routine is cleansing 44 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

- use a makeup remover or just simple coconut oil to remove all your makeup. Apply a bedtime serum with a heavy moisturizer to follow. ONCE A WEEK-use a scrub and a face pack once a week to get rid of the accumulated dead skin, dust and dirt over the week. How to get glowing skin? The first step is to realize that one size does not fit all. Having glowing skin resonates with having a good lifestyle overall. Exercising regularly, eating healthy food, loading on some vitamin c and antioxidants makes a huge difference in the texture of your skin, drinking at least 3 liters of water a day is a must andincluding creams rich in vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, antioxidants and vitamin E in your night time regimen plays a vital role as well. Can vitamin C irritate my skin? YES, vitamin C could irritate few skin types. Vitamin C being very acidic might irritate your skin especially when applied in high concentrations. It should be applied every other day in low concentrations and should be gradually increased. If your skin gets itchy with redness on the first application, pleasestop using it and consult your dermatologist. How to prevent ageing of skin? More often than not people fall for cosmetic commercials which claim to erase aging. AGEING can be slowed down but cannot be erased completely.Ageing is a natural process of life and in my opinion, its beautiful. Twenty’s to thirty’s is the right age to start a skin care routinewhich will slow down the process of ageing.Follow a healthy lifestyle, quit smoking and excessive drinking, stick to your skincare routine and follow it diligently. Most importantly find out what suits best for you, consult a dermatologist for a complete assessment of your skin type and use products accordingly. Pigmentation is one of the main concerns of most of the patients with ageing skin have, shielding your skin from harmful rays and toxins is key.Take good care of your skin in your early years and trust me your skin will thank you later. Does sleeping effect skin? YES, no matter how much you spend on creams and treatments, it all boils down to giving enough time for your skin to take in those products. A study in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology found that people who slept seven to nine hours a night had skin that was much more moisturized and glowing than that compared to those who slept only five hours or less.

contaminated, or harmful.”

What are fillers? Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like substances that are injected under the skin. They can address a number of common concerns including smoothening of deep under-eye circles, lifting of cheekbones, volumization of the lips, smoothening of lip lines and nasolabilal folds (the creases that run from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth), and rejuvenation of the hands. One of the most common compounds used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). Other available dermal fillers include those made from calcium hydroxylapatite,poly-L-lactic acid, polymethyl methacrylate, and autologous fat (fat that is transplanted from another part of your body).Choosing the right type of dermal filler requires the guidance of an experienced, board-certified dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy and familiarity with the variety of available fillers and their respective injection techniques. What is the much talked about vampire facial? You've probably seen the photos on Instagram: A celebrity or influencer's face covered with blood splatter. No, it's not halloween makeup, it's actually one of the latest treatment trends in skin care, also known as a "vampire facial." Celebrities, including Kim Kardashian West and Bar Rafaeli, are fans of the facial, which might look quite scary, but boasts big-time results. The PRP is derived from the serum portion of the blood, which contains platelets. The platelets contain high levels of growth factors, which, when applied to the skin, will stimulate cell turnover, increasing everything from collagen to elastin, while also bringing antioxidant and hydrating properties. How frequently do I need to get procedures done to see a resu lt? It completely depends on the procedure you are getting done. For example, a PRP procedure will need at least 3 sittings to see maximum results. Likewise, your fillers need to be touched up every 4 weeks depending on the type of filler used. If you are in your 20s then a visit to your dermatologist at least once in 2 months is necessary,if you are in your 30s or above then at least once a month is mandatory as your skin starts to need more care.

Are cosmetic procedures safe? YES, getting cosmetic procedures is safe but please make sure you get it done with a licensed dermatologist. Cosmetic procedures can be expensive, which has prompted some consumers to turn to the online black market to purchase do-it-yourself products. For example, fillers purchased online can contain a variety of nonsterile substances, such as hair gel. When injected, these substances can cause allergic reactions, infections, and the death of skin cells. Another risk is that improper injection technique can lead not only to swelling and lumpiness, but also more serious side effects such as embolism leading to blindness. The FDA has issued an official warning urging consumers to “never buy dermal fillers on the internet. They may be fake, TULIP - JANUARY, 2021 45

The Flight Of Colours It’s that time of year when the sky is lit up with colours and smiles. When the clouds dance with threads and the melody of laughter mingles with the air. A thousand kites sway with the wind. One set of hands leads the thread and the other set allows the reel to flow. If you still haven’t figured it out, it’s the festival of Sankranti, Hyderabad’s favourite festival. Sankranti has a beautiful and rich history to it. This festival is in the honour of the deity Surya, the sun and it is also known as Makara Sankranti. The people of India and Nepal celebrate their harvest on this lovely day. The delightful festival is celebrated in different parts of India and is known through different names. It is called Maghi in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, Magh Bihu in Assam, Sukarat in central India, and Makara Sankranti in some parts of South and North India. -By Umera Riyaz

SPECIAL |

Let’s dig in a little more about this festival in Telangana. Sankranti is a three-day celebration in the state of Telangana. The first day is called Bhogi, the festival of transformation, it comes a day before Makara Sankranti. On this day people gather old things from their house. Then at dawn, they light a bonfire and burn unnecessary household items. The second day is the main event, Makara Sankranti, the festival of kites, families get together and make an offering to their God. Later they fly kites together. On the third day, the animal kingdom is honoured, this day very inmate for farmers they celebrate their cattle. However, Celebrations were easy before the pandemic. Now the routine of celebrations is different than before. Here’s how you can spice things up for Sankranti 2021: Terrace Setting:

Set a bright rug or carpet at the centre of your terrace. Put your patio furniture at the side or near the railing. Arrange your food items on a table at the end so nothing gets in the way of kite flying session and don’t forget your stereo to enjoy some music.

Garden/Backyard Setting: Hang some fairy lights around your backyard. To spice things up, you can also add balloons and banners. Get a pretty bed sheet and spread it across the yard, throw in some cute cushions and enjoy this event with close friends and family. Picnic:

Plan an intimate Sankranti with family and friends. Spot an outdoor area safe for a picnic, make sure you're following the covid norms. Pack yourself some sweet and savoury items for the trip. Most importantly don’t forget to pack your kites. Feel the beautiful breeze while you fly those colourful kites.

“Sankranti is a joyful event. It always makes me nostalgic. I remember very vividly as a child I would visit Hyderabad during summer vacations, although Sankranti would’ve ended months ago. I would make sure I flew kites with my cousins and friends. We would gather some neighbours as well and fly the kites together. We would complete against each other at who could cut and grab the most kites. Now that I’m living in Hyderabad I always celebrate this festival by flying kites,”

Rehan Hazari, Entrepreneur

“If I’m being honest, I have flown more than a thousand kites in my lifetime. As a child, I would always have a kite in my hand. I am a kite lover, I would cut kites and collect them. But as I grew I lost touch with the activity. During the lockdown, I was stuck at home and spending my time aimlessly on social media just didn’t feel right. That’s when I picked the sport again. I’m the happiest person in the world when I’m with a kite in my hand,”

Built on the foundations of love and security, your home is a trove of memories and a temple of growth. In our transient lives, change is inevitable. It transforms to cater to each phase of our life, moulding itself into the abode that reflects our very being. Look around you, your surroundings. 60 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

Describe your experience in the industry? The fitness industry is growing because of which a lot of people are able to make a living. However, there are people who don’t have the knowledge and they are preaching shortcuts and crash diets which is definitely not a lifestyle change. So it’s important that when people reach out to trainers or nutritionist they make a point of finding out if they are certified or not.

FITNESS |

Tell us about your training philosophy? Everyone irrespective of their background or their age should get in at least 30 mins of workout 5-6 days a week in order to live a healthy and active life. They don’t have to do an intense workout. They can do whatever they feel like doing but it’s important to move. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged? I teach my clients how to make a lifestyle change. I tell them crash diet, starving themselves won’t take them anywhere. They have to be patient and do the necessary work week after week if they want to see changes and maintain that change lifelong. What all necessary things are needed at home if an individual prefers to work out at home? You don’t really need much to get a solid workout at home. A person can do a lot with body weight as well. However, if someone wishes to take home training to the next level, having a pair of dumbbells, a yoga mat and a resistance band are more than enough. What exercises are best for the fat burn at home? Fat burn = 80% nutrition and only 20% exercise. If a person is eating in calories deficit and staying active at the same time, that person can definitely lose body fat. Are gyms and fitness centers safe in this pandemic what all necessary measures one has to take while going? A. It’s going to take some time for the world to be normal again. If a person has the means of doing the kind of training that they do at home, then they should opt for home training. And if not, then the person can definitely go to the gym. Lots of gyms I know are practicing social distancing along with hygiene and sanitation. How important are diet and physical training? A. Very important. The kind of lifestyle people have these days will definitely lead to chronic diseases later. So it’s important that people take their nutrition and physical activity seriously so that they can live a healthy life. How to be motivated in the journey as many get demotivated after not seeing any progress results? Patience and consistency. If people do not see results in a month or two, they should be consistent and patient and keep doing what needs to be done. Eventually, it will come around and they will start to see changes in their body as well as life. What fitness tips would you like to give to the readers for the New Year’s? A. It’s the holiday season guys. It’s okay to indulge in your favourite food once in a while but it’s important to not go overboard. Also, don’t forget to stay active. A Piece of Pondicherry -

Le Dupleix

Situated in the heart of the old French Quarter of Pondicherry is Le Dupleix. Builtin the 18th century as the residence of the Mayor of Pondicherry, it stands on one of the most important corners of the French town. The adventure starts as soon as you reach the gate – one of the oldest in Pondicherry and famous in all the paintings and later photography of that era. As you open the gate you enter the heart of the restored building with the discovery of Old France renovated delicately to create a modern hotel. -By Satpreet Kaur

TRAVEL |

Le Dupleix is a fantastic mix of the traditional and the modern and has a quaint forgotten in time feel to it. The hotel displays authentic woodwork (some of the best in Pondicherry), antique textiles lent by couture embroidery master Jean Francois Lesage and a custom design stone courtyard. The top floor shows an interesting contrast of intricate woodwork and clean modern lines with glass. Le Dupleix is known for its fare of seafood and Creole cuisine. Rooms Every room in this hotel is different! Every detail in each room has been specially thought out and chosen for that room alone, with the result being a hotel with delightful surprises around every corner. The mix of the modern and the traditional gives much warmth, but at the same time ensures that the hotel is exceedingly comfortable. It’s no wonder that the Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2011 lists Le Dupleix as among the three best boutique hotels in India. Voted by readers and preferred by customers, the hotel is an invitation to a luxurious retreat!

Food Le Dupleix and Pondicherry have a very complex, diverse and cosmopolitan culture and they bring it all together, in the menu at Le Dupleix. One of the main things I have noticed over my repetitive visits is that they keep upgrading their menu and are far from boring or old fashioned, so heritage and tradition of Pondicherry are modernized and becomes part of their culture that’s moving forward.

64 JANUARY, 2021 TULIP

Pondicherry has always been a global crossroads; almost 2000 years ago or so in the times of Arikamedu, the Romans discovered the Indian spices around Pondicherry. The spices that went from India mixed with French cuisine and created Creole cuisine as it travelled around the world in the French colonies. Even when Indians travelled to the Mediterranean they influenced tropical food with Indian spices that created the Creole cuisine there. This influence is visible in Le Dupleix’s menu through recipes from New Orleans (which created some of the most exciting Creole dishes) like Gumbo soup and Creole Shrimps & Crab cake. The menu celebrates Japanese cuisine with Miso-Glazed Fish & Soba Noodle soup, Classic French dishes like Confit de Poulet& Crêpe Suzette, and presents dishes that stand out like Wild Game Quails & Soft Shell Crabs.

TRAVEL |

The strongest influence on modern Pondicherry cuisine has been the emphasis on being natural, organic and healthy. At Le Dupleix we are going organic; our rice, wheat, dals, spices and oils are all organic. Fish is fresh from the sea, caught by local fishermen and chicken is free-range & organic. Also, all soups, salads, appetizers and main course dishes have been presented with suggested pairings of International and Indian wines. While you order, the menu helps you discover some of Pondicherry’s iconic monuments and takes you back in time to share the story of painstaking restoration of this heritage property which celebrates the life and times of Marquis Joseph François Dupleix, the greatest General and Governor of French Pondicherry. TAROT |

Aries It could be hard getting back into the swing of things after the holiday weekend. A perfect travel opportunity exists that will be very tempting and irresistible. If it weren’t for your fears, you’d already have been on the plane with tickets in hand.

Taurus

Gemini

You find yourself more than attractive now and others notice the difference. Give in to partners requests and take a place in the background letting them have center stage. Don’t fall back on old bad habits that are destructive to your image or your health.

Experiment with many new kinds of jobs or technology. Dreams or premonitions from spirit are common now. You can speak with loved ones in dreams or through a mediums’ assistance. There is a possibility you may begin the study of astrology or enrol in art or acting lessons.

Leo

It’s as if it’s your own personal day. You feel recharged and energized ready to start many new projects. Home and family affairs are in for a bit of stirring up. Home issues need to be addressed again. Relationships start off as quickly as others come to an end. But by all means, use this creative period to get ahead and sell your ideas to others.

Virgo Cancer You may have recently been the object of an animals attraction. Stray kitten or other familiar shows up at your doorstep at a very important turning point in your life.

Powerful attractions and or habits may push you over the edge. Its time to transform things that directly affect your health before they transform you. This period places emphasis on your health this month providing another opportunity to start over.

Libra Real estate transactions finally take place but not without some grief from others that try to interfere with your progress. This can include the sibling or neighbor. Create the comfortable home environment you’ve always dreamed of. Working from a home office may be a better alternative then past choices.

You’ll be known for your clever repertoire. Send original greeting card or email to friends and enemies. If work is getting to you break up projects into smaller segments so they won’t seem so overpowering.

Capricorn

Aquarius

Improve your people skills and maintain a healthy balance between personal and professional life. Being well rounded will greatly improve your efforts at achieving your goals.

Scorpio

This can be very effective if you’ve been having trouble with any of your pets. Use this time to tune in to their thoughts and feelings. Visit unfamiliar places of worship where you can get a better understanding of the practices of others.

Sagittarius Friends come to your rescue and set you straight about future plans. Home environment still subject to some quirky upsets but nothing so major that it can’t be fixed. Saturn still has an iron fist on lending options so you may need to resort to your own sources for income to provide coverage of your needs.

Pisces A question of credibility may arise. Try not to be too impatient or argumentative when this occurs. This month can bring helpful group support. According to your monthly horoscope, late January promises to be a great time to form goals and determine what you desire most out of life.
