HULL JETS LAIDLER CUP CHAMPIONS!! Hull Jets and their away fans made a trip to Telford on Saturday 22nd January 2022, for the second leg of the Laidler Cup.
Scoring first is always a huge boost to any team, and the first goal went to Kieran Beach of Hull Jets, two minutes before the first period was due to end.
The first round of the cup had been played in Hull, 1 week earlier, and saw Hull Jets defeated with a score line 2-4 to Telford Tigers.
In the second period Hull Jets had the best start possible just 22 seconds in, Hull Jets scored the aggregate equaliser, Telford Tigers came back quickly, scoring to take the lead on aggregate once more.
Hull Jets knew they needed a strong, fast start to the game to be in with a chance of winning and that is what the team did – with a majority of the puck possession during the first period being Hull Jets.
However, the lead didn’t last long for Telford – Hull Jets fought hard to score another equaliser, followed by another goal just before the end of the 2nd period. Hull Jets started the final period in the lead by 1 goal, but score lines change quickly in Ice Hockey, they knew they needed to press hard to keep the advantage, which they did with finding the net again, giving them a 2-goal advantage. Telford Tigers did get one goal back and it was a tense last 10 minutes for Hull Jets, they held on, the final score saw Hull Jets win 6-7 on aggregate. Hull were worthy winners, the team showed determination and heart, the away fans were truly amazing, loud in voice and encouragement. HEY Magazine were proud to be part of the fans base on the night – we had a great time.
