SPANISH FORCED WORKERS IN WORLD WAR II
1939 begann für 140.000 republikanische Flüchtlinge des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges eine siebenjährige Odyssee durch die Konzentrations- und Zwangsarbeitslager des faschistischen Europas. Sie wurden Opfer von Internierung, Ausbeutung und Deportation durch das NS-Regime und durch das Vichy-Regime, in Frankreich, Deutschland, Nordafrika und auf den Kanalinseln. Die dreisprachige Ausstellung – französisch, spanisch, deutsch – präsentiert erstmals die Geschichte dieser vergessenen Zwangsarbeitende des Zweiten Weltkrieges einem europäischen Publikum.
In 1939, 140,000 Republican refugees from the Spanish Civil War began a seven-year odyssey through the concentration and forced labour camps of fascist Europe. They became victims of internment, exploitation and deportation by the Nazi and Vichy regimes in France, Germany, North Africa and the Channel Islands. The trilingual exhibition – french, spanish, german – presents the story of these forgotten forced labourers of the Second World War to a European audience for the first time.
