PONSSE HARVESTER ACTIVE CRANE SYSTEM SUPPORTING THE OPERATOR
EASY TO USE, STRAIGHTFORWARD AND SMOOTH The Harvester Active Crane system improves crane control and work efficiency. The system has received excellent feedback from its users.
W
ith Active Crane, operators can directly control the movements of the harvester head, instead of the individual operations of the crane. This allows the operator to focus on wood processing, not only controlling the crane. The system also slows down all movements automatically before the end of travel to protect mechanical structures and the operator from straining impacts. “The system helps operators and allows them to focus on the quality and efficiency of work instead of crane control,” says Markku Savolainen, product manager of equipment automation at Ponsse. Active Crane also makes the training of new forest machine operators easier, helping them learn how

to work economically, while saving the machine’s structures. The crane can easily be controlled using two levers, one of which controls the harvester head’s height from the ground, and the other the direction of movement. The typical movement ranges of harvesters have been addressed in the design. The crane only includes one additional module and a magnetic sensor in the extension cylinder, ensuring simple and reliable technological solutions. Harvester Active Crane, available as an option, requires the Opti 5G control system. The option is currently available for Scorpion machine models in selected market areas. The availability of Harvester Active Crane will be expanded to other machine models and market areas.
