FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the Spring 2023 edition of Ripples!
And so, April is here! What I love most about the promise of Spring is that it always delivers, and this year it seems to bring even more excitement and reinvigorating energy than in years past. It would seem our community is in bloom everywhere you look. Our membership is vibrant and continues to blossom with new faces seemingly daily. And our property is abuzz with construction activity for our new resort-style pool complex and state-of-the-art Golf Center, complete with a second-story lounge to take in the sweeping views of our Donald Ross gem The energy and forward momentum is palpable and creates an air of eager excitement for the summer season
I speak for my colleagues when I say there is an extra special spring in our step and mission to provide you and your guests with an unforgettable and exceptional member experience As we continue to grow, we have set the bar high to distinguish ourselves as the premier community of choice in the area If you can't sense it yet Riverton is the place to be! Not just because of our little slice of Donald Ross paradise, incredible new patio, and new property additions, but because of the camaraderie and communal feeling, you all have created So once more, and as always, we thank you for making this such a special place to call home
Happy Reading, Casey-Lee Waldron
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to a new season here at Riverton Country Club! And what an exciting and busy season it bodes to be
Let me begin by addressing our General Manager situation As previously shared, Joe Mendez will be leaving us to pursue another opportunity at the end of April Joe has been a tremendous asset to us for the past three years and has helped us accomplish some great things The Board thanks Joe for his leadership and efforts and wishes him the best in his next chapter
Immediately following the news of Joe's departure, the Board began diligently evaluating all options and sought counsel from external strategic partners and industry experts After much thoughtful deliberation and consideration, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Hannah Librizzi to the role of General Manager Over the four years that Hannah has been with us, she has demonstrated fantastic member engagement as she was entrusted with increased club responsibilities Six months ago, Hannah was promoted to Clubhouse Manager, overseeing all Food & Beverage operations, our Executive Chef & Culinary Team, Banquets and Catering, Pool Operations, and Club Maintenance, and has been acting as Assistant General Manager Given our need to conduct a General Manager search, she was an obvious candidate to consider and assess We believe Hannah has the attitude, aptitude, and dedication we are looking for to continue our club’s successful growth and vision While we understand Hannah has new responsibilities to learn and grow into as a General Manager leader (as any new GM would), we trust she has the determination and commitment to quickly study new areas of management We are excited for Hannah to take on this opportunity and ask you to join us in congratulating her As we enter our busiest time of the year and open our new facilities the Board is committed to providing the necessary resources to assist Hannah as she moves into her new role
In Facility Master Plan news, we continue to make good progress on all components The new pool remains on track for a Memorial Day opening, with the new Golf Center following closely behind There have been a few supply chain issues that we have run into for the pool houses and café, but we are working with our GC and architects to make adjustments to remain as close as to the originally scheduled dates for their openings.
More information on the Facility Master Plan and update on the state-of-club-affairs will be shared at our Annual Meeting on Monday, April 17th, at 7 PM. Please mark the date on your calendars and plan to join us in person or via zoom.
Our club is brimming with excitement and energy as we head into this new season. I continue to be overwhelmed by how special our community is and thank you all for your unyielding support. I look forward to creating new memories with our community as we continue to embark upon our Journey to 2025 and a reimagined Riverton Country Club.
There is a plethora of important information on the following pages, so please take the time to read this quarterly update and be sure to stay current with our weekly email updates and website information. I look forward to seeing you all at the club, and, as always, please feel free to drop me a note with any ideas or comments.
As I sat down to write this article, I've found myself reflecting on where I was this time three years ago: brand new in my role as General Manager at the Club, navigating an unprecedented global pandemic and the many unknowns it presented to our organization while dealing with all the same fears and concerns the rest of the world was When I look back on the trepidation I felt at that time, had I known the incredibly positive effect COVID would have on the Private Club Industry and how successfully our club would pull through, I would have been filled with excitement instead
Fast forward to the present day, Riverton is poised for great success as it embarks upon an exciting next chapter in its history. As you walk around our campus, you'll see a new golf building and pool complex in progress, a truly stunning new patio, a fully restored golf course, and a club brimming with new members. Our financial results have never been better, and for the third consecutive year, we've not had to use our line of credit And to add to our great position for success, we are cash strong as we head into the time of year when we historically see a high level of cash inflow with the first dues installment
On the staff front, we have an outstanding team of professionals who can successfully run day-to-day operations without daily oversight It has been incredible to see how well our team works together and the
JOE MENDEZ, CCM, CCEgrowth in their collaboration since my arrival We have seen consistent improvement across our service areas and are working hard to continue that trend
Some have asked me, "why now?" While the timing is not ideal, this was an intensely personal decision that had much more to do with me than anything else Although I am moving back to PA, I still have a commute of about 50 miles each way every day. However, this decision is what's best for my family at this moment in time. I will miss everyone here I have gotten to know, especially our team.
While the past three years have been turbulent and filled with enormous challenges, I would not trade one minute of it for anything I leave here with lifelong friendships and have met people who have taught me things about myself and our industry I have watched several team members grow and move on to new opportunities, and some be promoted from within--that is what I leave here most proud of We have invested in our team and worked hard to ensure all were provided the tools they need for a successful future, whether here at Riverton or elsewhere, due to all they learned here and who they got to know here
I wish the club all the success in the world and hope to come back one day to see the results of the construction and look forward to seeing the team continue to grow and develop. I thank you all for your support throughout my time here and for the many kind words and wishes for my next chapter.
As always, we thank you for making Riverton a special place to call home and look forward to serving you soon!
OUR COMMUNITY IS SHINING
donna surretteSpring is in bloom, and Riverton is shining! As I tour prospective members around the club, their awe at our vibrant membership and expanding property is evident and exciting. There is a feeling of warmth and energy surrounding the club, and as we near the end of the FMP projects, I know that excitement will only double once the new golf center and pool complex are completed and unveiled!
With the new season here, I wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of our Membership Chair, Dan Giannetto, along with the entire Membership Committee Once more, we renew our mission to embrace and welcome new members into our community while we celebrate and thank our current and long-time members
This year our Committee Members are Catherine Ambrose, George Shirmer, Danielle Lucas, James Donovan, Kelly Dellinger, and Tim Latimer. I thank them sincerely for volunteering their time and energy for the betterment and growth of our club A special thank you goes out to former Committee Members Adam Burke and Cathleen Sabatino for two years of exceptional service
In the following pages, you will find a list of our most recent new members, as well as our quarterly "Membership in Numbers" update As evident by these, as well as all the exciting things taking place at the club, there is no question Riverton is soaring, and there's much to be excited for As always, I thank you for making this community so special when you are here, you are truly home
Please join us all in welcoming and celebrating the newest members of our Riverton Family. We look forward to embracing them into our community and making them a part of our special home.

The first day of March usually marks the start of the season when my phone rings with calls from friends and family asking the same question, "what should I do with my yard this year"? So as I sat down to write this article, I figured I would take this opportunity to share some of the most common questions I receive about home yard care
Q: What should I do with all the bare spots in my yard? The seed I put down last time did not work
A: If your yard has a bare spot, there are a few things to consider before seeding the area. Is there a water issue? Too much or too little water can kill the grass Is there enough sunlight? Most grass plants require around 6 hours of sunlight to grow, but this varies from species to species Were there too many weed species present that outcompeted the desired plants? Most weeds die in the fall and reemerge in the spring/summer Your next step is to prepare the bare spot(s) for seeding Using a sturdy rake or shovel, loosen the soil of any bare spots to relieve compaction, add air, and give the seed somewhere to go Once you have prepared the bare spot soil, you can then apply seed. This moment is where most seeding attempts start to go wrong. To correctly apply, use a generous amount of seed-if you think it is enough, go ahead and put more down Next, use your rake or shovel to mix the seed and loosened soil, then lightly pack the area down with your feet or even the back of a shovel or rake If the area you are working on is large or on a slope or is large, consider adding a layer of straw once seeding is complete If you decide to use a straw layer, be certain to water the straw frequently so it does not end up in the neighbor's yard Water the entire bare spot area daily, with enough water to wet the top half inch of soil but not enough to leave a puddle. Generally, you can begin the seeding process in early April.
Q: When should I apply weed control products?
A: The answer to this question is contingent upon if the first question applies to you Pre-emergent herbicides will stop the germination of weed seeds and grass seeds So if you seeded bare spots or even your entire yard, you must wait for full germination of the desired seed before applying weed control products Generally, the best time to apply weed control products is late-April to mid-June.
Q: Should I bag my grass clippings?
A: At the time of mowing, if your yard is dry and the grass is not too long, you do not have to bag your grass clipping While returning clippings can return nutrients to the soil, grass clippings can clump up, which is not a desirable look and can be harmful to the grass under the clumps Alternatively, after mowing, use a blower to break up the clumps, or turn your rake teeth side up and use it to break up any clumps.
Q: Should I do anything to my flower beds besides planting?
I hope you have found this information helpful! If you have any other questions or follow-up questions, as always, please feel free to reach out to me

PLAY MORE GOLF
I have made it a tradition to remind you of this as the start to the season gets closer, as it is something that I truly believe in Each Spring, so many of us say something along the lines of “I’d really like to play more golf this year!” Inevitably, as the summer months fly by, it gets to be September and you look back at how many times you played this past year, and you realize that you just couldn’t get to the course as much as you had hoped!
I truly believe that scheduling golf into your week is the key to making sure you get out there and play more It's easy to get caught up in our busy lives and forget about the things we love, but if you make it a priority and schedule it in, you'll be more likely to make it happen
So, let's make this the year that you actually follow through on your goal of playing more golf Whether it's 9 holes or an hour on the range, mark it on your calendar and commit to making time for yourself and the game you love You deserve it! So, get out there, enjoy the fresh air, and have some fun on the course
Swing
tip increase your distance off the tee
As we gear up for another exciting golf season, I wanted to share with you a swing tip that can help you increase your distance off the tee Distance is one of the most important factors in golf, and having a few extra yards can make a big difference in your game
The key to increasing your distance is generating more clubhead speed. The more speed you can create, the farther your ball will travel. However, generating more speed can be easier said than done But don't worry, there is a simple swing tip that can help you achieve this goal
The swing tip I want to share with you is all about maximizing your shoulder turn The more you can turn your shoulders on your backswing, the more potential energy you will create, which can be converted into clubhead speed on the downswing Here's how you can do it:
Set Up
Set up to the ball with a slightly wider stance than usual This will give you a solid base to make a powerful turn
Point At The Target
As you take the club back, focus on turning your left shoulder (for right-handed golfers) behind your chin Visualize the back of your left shoulder pointing straight ahead at the target
Turn As Far As Possible
At the top of your backswing, your left shoulder should be turned as far as possible, and your hips should have turned slightly as well
Maximum Speed
As you start your downswing, use your lower body to initiate the movement, then let your upper body follow naturally This will create a whip-like effect, generating maximum clubhead speed at impact
Remember, the key to this swing tip is maximizing your shoulder turn By doing so, you'll create more potential energy in your swing, which can be converted into distance Give it a try next time you're practicing and see if you don’t start to see the ball traveling a little further!
Chef's Tip
Brining Meat & Fish
Brining your meats or fish can make a huge difference in the flavor and dryness of your dish. You should only brine lean meats and fish. White fish like snapper or halibut are fish that work well with brining. Meats like pork tenderloins or chicken work well. Beef or fatty fish (salmon) do not need brining.
1 cup kosher salt
1 cup sugar
2 qts cold water
3 bay leaves
1 bunch of thyme
Bring all ingredients to a boil and let cool in fridge. Submerge your poultry (2 hours), pork (4 hours) or fish (1 hour) in brine. Once ready remove from brine and allow to dry in fridge overnight. This will allow for any water to evaporate making t easier to get a good sear. Cook as desired.
CHEF'S TABLE
JC NunezMust Try Menu Item
We recently released our Spring Menu, and one of the features I'm most excited about is our house-made Fresno Sauce This isn't your typical wing sauce; our fresh Fresno Sauce is packed with flavor, spice, and delicious goodness! This sauce is exclusive to Riverton, so stop in, give it a try, and let me know how you like it!
Goals This Season
This season, one of my main focuses is getting to know more of our members I love walking the floor during dinner service, greeting members, discussing menu items, and hearing your suggestions for future dishes At the end of the day, my job is to provide you and your guests with a dining experience you can count on enjoying each time you walk through the door Another goal I plan to work towards this season is developing more culinary-driven events Our first Chefs Tasting Experience was a huge success! I look forward to hosting similar events in the future with small groups of adventurous foodies who enjoy trying new foods and techniques! I also hope to host several cooking classes to show how easy cooking can be with the right ingredients and tools.
As always, my team and I will continue to raise the bar in our culinary program and deliver high-quality, exceptional food
Did You Know?
We recently switched to an RTI oil filtration system This allows the kitchen to filter and dispose of our fryer oil quickly and safely With this system, oil can be filtered, disposed, and replaced without the employee needing to do any heavy lifting or moving through the kitchen with hot grease.
This also provides our members with a product that tastes better and is less greasy
Dirty grease is also called “yellow grease ” Yellow grease from commercial kitchens is filtered to create “feedstock” oil The “feedstock” oil is processed and converted to pure biofuel Biofuel can be combined with conventional diesel to create a more sustainable, ecofriendly fuel The fuel has a low carbon content and doesn’t produce carbon monoxide
Used cooking oil is already playing a part in powering airplanes & heating homes while reducing the environmental impact of all those activities
Catering & Ev
Refreshed & Reimagined
alexis ryanA new season always brings new things, but this Spring, the Catering Department has many exciting new updates to share! Chef JC and our Banquet Chef Chris Kuhn spent the off-season working hard with our entire team to put together outstanding, new banquet and golf outing offerings I am proud to share that we now have a wide range of delicious breakfast, brunch, and dinner options, appealing outing packages, and have even added Sweet 16 and Prom menus to our offerings!
(Speaking of proms, this year, we are hosting a record-setting three proms-Cherry Hill West, Father Judge, and Riverside High School!) We also have been working on designing a sturdy, multi-purpose, multi-use grass wall to add as an offering to parties and events-this will be booked on a first-come-first-serve basis, so be sure to inquire today!
Throughout the process of revamping our menus, we took time to think about what we could add as a benefit to our members who choose us to host their events. I am excited to announce that moving forward as a member, when you book your event with us, you will receive the following benefits:
All room fees will be waived
All food offerings will have a 10 percent discount
Exclusive vendor offerings
We've curated a list of the best vendors around, and will allow you the exclusive opportunity to book with them
And on top of all this (and what I'm most looking forward to), the Andreola Room and Ballroom are getting a nice little refresh! Both rooms will be getting new carpeting, paint, and lighting fixtures! I am confident this will be a gamechanger in booking more weddings and events, and of course, make the member experience that much better. So don't wait, don't hesitate...

OMAR'S CORNER
OMAR GONZALEZSpring has arrived, and that means that Riverton Racquets is back! We have an ambitious program planned for this upcoming season, and I look forward to seeing new faces join us on the courts.
Let me begin with a pickleball update. Pickleball has grown by leaps and bounds across the nation, so much so that wherever you go, almost anywhere, you count on finding a community club or league that is bursting with players. Over the past several years, our pickleball program has experienced that same growth and has taken off exponentially! Taking into consideration the growing interest, I knew we needed to provide more from a staffing standpoint. With that said, I am excited to share that Lee Collins will be joining my wife Kathleen as part of our Pickleball staff! As you all know, Lee has been the Pool Manager here at Riverton for over 15 years. What many of you may not know, however, is that he is a pickleball enthusiast and has been involved in the sport across the region. With Lee's experience and passion for the game, I am confident our pickleball program will reach new heights. Of course, a big shout out to my wife Kathleen, who has helped me get this program off the ground.
I also want to give another special shout-out to Steve Foley for his incredible dedication and passion for pickleball. Steve's hard work and talent have led him to be one of the best players in the South Jersey region! Join me in congratulating Steve and wishing him continued success!
On the tennis side of our programming, please be sure to check out our weekly offerings and event calendars. In working with the Tennis Committee, I have kept our most popular clinics and events and will continue to work towards creating new events and growing our offerings. I want to give special recognition to our beloved Jack Cranmer for his hard work this season. We are so proud of Jack and not surprised that he was the top Varsity Player at Moorestown Friends School this season. The future of Riverton tennis is bright!
In closing, as we enter this new season, I implore you to remember to make court reservations when planning to play and be sure to list any guests! This is vitally important in maintaining a smooth, safe, and successful operation and providing the best possible experience for you and your guest.
As always, I hope to see old and new faces on the courts this season!
