A LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE By MIKAEL EJEMAR VIKSTRÖM, RTI MAGAZINE EDITOR, 2021-2022

THE OFFICIAL RTI MAGAZINE

YET AGAIN WE ARE PROUD to present to you new issue of RTI Legacy Magazine - this time with more content than ever. I am amazed by the commitment and focus by our editorial team - and by all you brothers out there that contribute. Your contribution is important - and legacy is a vessel for us to share experiences and knowledge that helps us to adopt, adapt, and improve.

I'm writing this just a day after attending my national AGM here in Sweden, and it truly was an experience. It's hard to prepare yourself for what is to come after the pandemic, and in my case being on paternal leave for the last few months. Going from just meeting a few people each week to suddenly attending an event with 900+ attendees takes it's toll socially - but boy did we need it. Round Table is restarting - both on club, national, and international level. And it is amazing to see. Suddenly you don't feel as young anymore seeing so many new faces each year. And that's just how it is supposed to be. That's why I believe Legacy Magazine is so important. We get the opportunity to share something amongst us, and something to share for future generation

And if you don't have and medals to display on your chest - at least make sure you look your best regardless - get groomed or be doomed! On page 44 you'll find useful tips on how to take care of yourself from head to toe - literally. And for those of you who tend to focus more on travelling - this is the issue for you. We have an extensive feature of the upcoming RTI World Meeting starting on page 70. What can we expect when we finally get to visit the vikings in the north? What is Hygge all about? And what awaits us on the amazing pretours? I can tell you that whatever you're looking for - Denmark will have you covered. From northern lights on The North Cape, to riding an actual viking ship, and fulfilling your nerdiest childhood dreams at Legoland - this RTI WM will have something for everyone. And I can't wait! There are so many interesting articles in this issue and what I've mentioned to you here is just a fraction. Take your time, enjoy this issue of RTI Legacy Magazine and immerse yourself in new insights, experiences, and knowledge. Adopt, Adapt, Improve!

RTI PRESIDENT

A SEASON OF AGM'S By GRAHAM CORNELISSEN, Round Table International President, 2021-2022

SEEING ALL THE POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA, one cannot argue that we are in the midst of AGM season for most of the associations. This time of reflection on a year that is gone and a celebration of all that has been achieved is balanced by renewed hope for the future and changes in leadership teams. Attending some of these meetings in person is a highlight of this year for me personally, as I get to share in these celebrations. With Covid restrictions reduced in many of our associations, now is a great time to travel and see what your fellow brothers are doing. We are also looking forward to the RTI World Meeting 2022 hosted by Round Table Denmark. From the 21st to the 25th of September, Copenhagen will be flooded by Tablers from all over the globe. We have regular meetings with the convening team, and their plans for the event are truly mind-blowing. This is shaping up to be a one in a lifetime event that should not be missed. Want to join us there? – Have a lookout for the flyers in this magazine or on social media, or simply go to www.rtiwm2022.dk. We ran our 30 Acts of Kindness project during April, a first of its kind for RTI. Although we had hoped for more engagement with this project, we are still delighted with the results. A special thanks to Round Table Belgium and Round Table Malawi, who stood out in their efforts. In June, we are focussing on combatting the scourge of poverty. In this edition, we are putting a spotlight on understanding the causes and the effect of poverty, and we suggest several projects that can be done by Tables or Associations to help address this. Please get involved as anyone can make a difference. As always, we have several other interesting articles in this edition. From the latest developments in Tabler. World, to understanding the coin game and everything in between. A particular highlight is the ‘Groomed or Doomed’ article by our PRO, Mr Paul Hoeksema – an excellent and hilarious read. Please enjoy and read this edition of Legacy and feel free to engage with any of the writers on their ideas. We gladly accept articles for publication and request that these be sent to our PRO at pro@round-table.org. Feel free to share ideas and views with us. Stay StrongerTogether and enjoy this AGM season

CEE REGION

CENTR AL & EASTERN EUROPE REGION

LET'S WELCOME TWO NEW ASSOCIATIONS By MARC GERMESHAUSEN, CEE Chairman 2021-2022

GROWING OUR MOVEMENT is always one of our major topics within our movement. When it comes to chartering new associations, it is a milestone for the core team, the region, and Round Table International. Our region's last charter was already three years ago – 2019 with RT Moldova. This year we have the unique possibility to charter two Associations with RT Czech Republic – Prague 1 and RT Albania – Tirana 1. Some years back, Tablers tried to re-charter Prague and to bring Round Table back to the Czech Republic. Mads Thorsdal, a member of RT Denmark, moved some months ago to Prague and started a small gathering for business reasons with a bunch of young men. From the beginning, he was convinced to establish a Round Table club in his new hometown. When we heard the first time about them gathering in October 2021, we saw that they are already very far along in their endeavours. In December, I had the honour to visit them and discuss the next steps. Within the RTI Board, we gave them the status of "inaugurated" due to their work done to date, so we can charter them in the Summer of 2022. With a wonderful program, entertainment, and huge motivation, they are inviting us all for their great moment: The re-charter of Round Table Prague 1. We are grateful that RT Denmark will be their mother Association and support the new club within our movement. At the end of October last year, 100 Tablers celebrated the inauguration of Round Table Tirana 1. It was a milestone for the prospects who are now ready to get chartered. With the support from RT Luxembourg, they will soon be our latest Member. Join us as we celebrate the charter of Round Table Albania! Explore scenic Kruja, take a stroll on the beautiful beaches of Durres, and enjoy delicious food, drink, music and of course great company as you shake hands with old friends you just met. From 8-10 of July, we will gather to welcome our newest Association with RTI. RT Albania is offering a wonderful pre-tour. If you would like to explore the country, people and culture, enrol now for this experience. Participating in a charter is a very unique experience. Being part of the start of

THE FUN SIDE OF AMI By DARREL BENOIT, AMI Chairman 2021-2022

ROUND TABLE ZIMBABWE ANNUAL FISHING EVENT Round Table Zimbabwe held its annual Round Table Invitational Fishing Trip on the mighty Zambezi River in November of last year. The trip is an opportunity for present and past Tablers to spend 4 days on the river socializing, sinking some beers and occasionally even catching some fish. Last year, close to 30 Tablers and 41ers descended on the Pump House Camp Site to compete for the three trophies up for grabs. The fishing was great, with many tigerfish caught and bream, Chesser, nkupi etc. This year was one of the most festive after the constraints and travel restrictions of the past few years due to Covid. Needless to say, the Tablers certainly let their hair down and enjoyed themselves immensely. Although the trip is essentially for fellowship, there is a serious element to it where we remember past Tablers and pay tribute to our brothers who have passed away. This year promises to be just as exciting, and Tablers are already getting their rods ready and packing their fishing boxes! THE KLIMBMANJARO BY ROUND TABLE ARUSHA Round Table Arusha 14 of Round Table Eastern Africa host an annual event called Klimbmanjaro. The idea came about by a fellow Tabler from Kokstad who proposed the idea. International Tablers have participated in this charity event with a success rate of 100% since its first edition in 2016. The best guides and porters are provided for the climb, and the safety of the climbers is a number one priority. Participants usually pay the cost price but are asked to raise money from their specific table, association or local sponsors. All proceeds money raised from the climb go to support orphans whose school fees are taken care of by Round Table Arusha. To date, Round Table Arusha are paying school fees for 8 orphans - where 2 are already in university - and expects to add another 2 more next year to our list. OUR CLUBHOUSE, THE SHACK! NEA REGION

NORTHERN E U ROPE & AMERI C AS REGION

ICELAND AND AMERICAS PART OF THE NEA REGION By ALEKSANDER OTTOKAR, NEA Chairman 2021-2022

SINCE 2016 NEA REGION has been not only the area of Scandinavia and the Baltics but also the Americas. Round Table NEA Region's west wing consists of the United States of America, Canada, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. Before going into the America's side of the region, there is a volcanic island between the Americas and Europe. Yes, I am talking about Iceland, a small but unforgettable nation with a spirit that carries with their Icelandic brothers anywhere they go. Round Table Iceland started its season off great. From a wellattended and fun summer camping event to a golf tournament, which will also take place this summer. Visiting Iceland is very much recommended. They also held a large council meeting before the winter lockdown. The Tablers made the meetings fun and innovative, conducted in person or online. In Mottumars ("Moustache Marches"), they collected over 12,000 Euros for cancer support. Our tables collected several thousand euros to support members fighting cancer directly or indirectly. Not too long ago, I enjoyed experiencing the fellowship and fun Icelanders bring by attending the 2022 AGM in Vestmannaeyjar. Indeed, the pandemic has not been kind to the association, as activity and membership declined while quarantined. Yet, it is great to see that the pandemic has passed today, and the association can move forward once again. As far as expansions go, we can talk about Round Table Mexico. The project might be the longest (or at least it feels that way) in the region's history, but we are now getting back up and running. Since the pandemic has put things on hold, we are in the process of meeting with the future prospects and hosting an online meet and greet with the RTI Board and Round Table Suomi Finland. Recently, Canada, also known as the Great White North, has struggled to attract new members. Although they put in a great deal of effort, it has not worked out. The e-club project has not had the awaited effect as Canadians need a more personal approach. Since some of their members have moved away from the country, they are now taking a small summer break. In the context of Round Table Canada already being a small organization, this is troubling. Their current President is optimistic, and Round Table International will assist them when they return from

S ARE N Round Table Suriname has lately been highly active. They hosted a grand social event to have fun and build their fellowship. Local Tablers finally managed to organize their famous Bubu festival on May 21st with international DJs and live entertainment. Approximately 2,000 people are expected to attend. All proceeds will be used for their social community fund. For the 47th time in April, they held a traditional event called KIKEWECO (a children's orphanage event from a particular city in Suriname). It was a beautiful event where kids of 3 different orphanages were fully spoiled. A total of 150 children attended the event. In addition to food and sweets, Round Table Suriname provided a fun-filled day of entertainment. They concluded the day by handing over several packages and presents to meet their primary needs. This year, they said goodbye to three long-time Tablers who have joined the 40+ club. At the same time, they introduced two prospects to the brotherhood of Round Table. The AGM of Round Table Suriname will now take place in June 2022. And lastly, we cannot discuss the Americas region without discussing the United States of America. They just finished their business meeting where they elected a new chairman, Bob Ter Hunne. Additionally, Round Table USA welcomed a new member Terry De Charmoy Lablache into the local Table. Terry has initially been a member of RT Seychelles. Along with their most recent active member, they have two new prospects interested in tabling. Martin Bradford, a former Chairman from New York city has moved to Miami and wants to start a club there. Furthermore, when it comes to expansion in the US, we are proud that we are currently forming a club in San Francisco. As such, the future is bright in the land of the free. Of course, their next project is the AGM of Round Table United States of America, which will take place from the 2nd to the 5th of June. I will also be attending myself and hope to meet you all there. In conclusion, the work for the American continent to become its own region continues. All the associations mentioned in my report have significant potential. The International Board is pushing hard to make that a reality. Brother, if you are reading this and you think you can refer a potential prospect to any of the countries mentioned, do not hesitate to let us know. We are #StrongerTogether and can build this great organization one member at a time.

SOUTHERN EUROPE & MEDITERR ANI AN REGION

AN SEM MEETING ON THE ROCK By NICHOLAS GOMEZ, SEM Chairman 2021-2022

BROTHERS, I write to tell you of the Southern Europe and Mediterranean Region's meeting which is taking place between the 22nd and the 26th June in my home town of Gibraltar! I set out last year to stand as chairman for the SEM region, and one factor behind this was that we are hosting the SEM meeting for the first time in more than 25 years. So, what's happening, and why should you register? Firstly, a little bit of background to Gibraltar. Gibraltar is located at the southernmost tip of Spain and at the entrance to the Mediterranean. The weather for late June will be between 25 – 30 degrees. It is perfect beach weather! We may hold the record for having the most bars/pubs per square kilometre than anywhere else globally, and to top it off, alcohol is cheap. Gibraltar has deep routed military and cultural history, much of which is still visible today, for example, the Moorish Castle, which is more than 700 years old and has unique limestone caves! We are also known for having the only wild monkey population in Europe – macaques – which is the theme of the special and limited issue event pin that will be available to attendees. Secondly, what's happening? I am pleased to announce that our most famous tabling product, Chris Gabay (you may recognise him from international travels over the last decade – and most recently as a Sergeant at Arms at the HYM in Marrakech) will be heading the Pre-Tour. Chris has arranged a two-day pre-tour, which involves a tour of the rock of Gibraltar and the limestone caves, enjoying beaches in the surrounding area, a dolphin safari, and either surfing lessons or go-karting. In short, a perfect start to your summer holidays! As of Friday, the SEM event starts with registration and the councillor's meeting, followed by an evening on the town with your Gibraltarian brothers in Table. On Saturday, the SEM Meeting takes place at the University of Gibraltar, located at the southernmost end and with great views of the Mediterranean and Morocco! After the banner exchange and lunch, I have arranged for a special Chairman's Texas Hold 'em poker tournament. This is a limited space event. The money used

AINST POVERTY

By Mr PAUL DIPPENAAR, Round Table International CSO

The community service of RTI and the good we do as tablers are divided into 5 different pillars. Poverty and reducing the impact of this on people's lives are one of these pillars. Poverty is widely described as the lack or absence of something. The first thing most think of is the financial aspect. Although economic poverty contributes to about 80% of it, as a collaborative, poverty goes way beyond just the immediate absence of money.

ROUND PLAYBLE By Mr MIKAEL HEDMAN, RT 120, Sweden

Sunmer is fast approaching and so is AGM season. It may be time to think about the RTIWM as well. If you have a long journey to Copenhagen or your AGM, take the opportunity to bring a game as entertainment. Drinking beer and talking in all glory, but it can be great fun to break it off with a board or card game!

MORE THAN ONE S T O RY r at i n g : ●●●●○○○ A card game that is not about winning and not really about having fun either, although laughter can occur. But it is more about getting to know each other and building bridges between people. Published by Simrishamns Municipality's Culture and Leisure Administration in a project to integrate people from different backgrounds. You can either buy the physical deck, or download the app for Android or Iphone for free. There is also a website, www.morethanonestory.org where you also can play the game. In all its simplicity, a statement appears on each card, "Tell about how you played as a child" e.g. So you have to think about your statement and tell the others. Like an RT meeting, it can shift between seriousness and gaping laughter. And even if you know each other well, you get to hear new stories. Perfect to entertain on a road trip, maybe on the way to your AGM or the world meeting.

B U FFA LO r at i n g : ●●●●○○○ A "drinking game" within the Round Table. If you like alcohol and games, why not become a buffalo brother. This is something we do not see much of in RT Sweden, but if you go abroad it will probably be hard to miss. If it is done in the right way, it is a fun element that strengthens the community, but it is up to everyone to decide for themselves. I have appreciated it at the international meetings I have been to anyway.

SECRET HITLER r at i n g : ●●●●●○○ A quite simple and very social game for a group between 5-10, perfect to play at an RT meeting, depending on how many brothers you are. Who among you is "Lizard-Hitler", lie and keep a straight face for as long as you can, may the liberals win over the fascists! Some of you play as liberals, some are fascists and one is "Lizard-Hitler", but who is what? If you do not want to buy it, you can download and print it for free in PDF format on their website (www.secrethitler.com), have a pair of scissors on hand because you will need to cut. This is a game that may have chosen a story that may offend some. I hope no one takes it badly, that's not my intention.

THE HISTORY O FIRST-PERSON-S GAMES By Mr DAVID JOE WILLIAMS, Ilfracombe Round Table

Some of the biggest and most played video games are FPS games at the moment. For the non-gamers, FPS means first-person shooter. Since the turn of the century, the first-person shooter is the most commercially viable video game genre accounting for over 27% of all video game sales in 2016.

LIVING #STRONGER TOGETHER AS A YOUNG GIRL, I dreamt of marrying my Prince Charming. I dreamt of all the great things we could achieve together and the changes we could make in the lives of others. I have done even better – I became Ladies' Circle International Treasurer and married the President of Round Table International. Now, you may be hoping for me to share a few crazy stories about our daily lives. I will keep that for when we meet at the next Round Table Family event. Instead, I would like to elaborate on why our side-by-side relationship is so strong. My journey in Ladies' Circle began not long after Graham became a Tabler. He made it his mission to introduce me to the local Circlers, telling me at the time that there was a world of friendships waiting for me and the opportunity to do even more good together. From the very start, we were in this together. This wild ride that is Ladies' Circle and Round Table is best experienced with those close to your heart. Our strength comes from not being alone but from sharing our experiences with each other. This journey can be taken with a partner, family members, or good friends. Having been very involved in the planning for his year as President, we have had many discussions on the different meanings of #StrongerTogether. It is an all-encompassing theme that works well in many situations. Still, in close and interpersonal relationships, this is best. This is where relationships are formed, and people's lives are impacted the most. At its core, this is what StrongerTogether means. It means sharing the journey through the ups and the downs and always being there for each other to count on. Sometimes, we might not see each other often, like when hubby is in Europe for 5 weeks as he is now, and this does get tough. The shared values from our organisations make us want the same things, believe the same things and strive for the same things. Making this sacrifice is well worth the returns that we get from this shared journey. So to anyone that wonders how it can be possible to get more joy, passion and drive out of this experience - The answer is simple: we ride this train together, sharing the journey. Live #StrongerTogether. TLDR: Share the journey with your partner, let them join the ride. We may be both part of the organisations, but having your partners, friends, and family with you on the train ride is what embodies #StrongerTogether

Yours, in friendship and service

N 2010, I WATCHED GERMANY PLAY SPAIN in the Fifa World cup semifinal in Durban. Late in the second half, Carlos Puyol scored a goal from a corner, which led to Germany being eliminated. Yvette was happy; I was disappointed as we supported the different teams. The following morning, we drove past the stadium, and I was amazed by what I saw. After being eliminated no more than 12 hours ago from the

biggest trophy in sports, the German team was on the field practising defensive corners. I was stunned. How much the loss must have hurt exceeds my capacity to understand, yet they were there and working on the field. For a long time, I did not understand what force was able to fuel this type of behaviour. Throughout the years, you will see this every now and then when you know what to look for. Famously, the Springbok rugby team demonstrated this in the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The term used by the coach to describe this drive was "superior discontent" and is defined as a refusal to be defeated, a refusal to settle for second best and a need to continuously improve. I have learnt that the performance of any team is determined by the following three factors: The quality of the leader; The performance that the leader accepts; and Those guys on the team who are exceptional and who will deliver excellent work, no matter what. Over time, most team members will contribute to the team more and less at other times. These contributions are influenced by internal and external factors to the team. Where a team has individuals with an attitude of Superior Discontent, the team's overall performance is lifted considerably. Identifying these team members is easy. These individuals do not settle for good enough, but always strive to do better. These individuals might achieve success, but then always focus on improving themselves and the team. These individuals never give up and never accept mediocrity in themselves. People who do not understand their drive can be seen as perfectionists or the guys taking things too seriously. What to do if you have one of these on your team? Protect them like diamonds, for these guys will either carry the team on their shoulders or change it for the better.

Over the years, this proved to be a highly debated topic. In this article, I'll focus on various aspects of Continuous Giving. Whether it's time, money, or attention. We all have something to give and crave the feeling of being part of the greater good. I'll also focus on different views and outlooks, from wisdom to mythology to science.

N ONE OF HIS BOOKS, Azim Jamal said:" The power of giving is instantaneous and continuous and that the benefit both for the giver and the receiver is eternal and longlasting." This way of living has been adopted by

numerous religious institutions, various service organizations, and billions of people worldwide. Round Table was one of these organizations that strive to leave today's world in a better state than we found it yesterday. Continuous giving is an essential part of what we as Tablers are all about. During my research, it was evident that there are different sides to this very controversial topic. I will focus on both the emotional side of giving and the scientific side. THE HABIT OF GIVING normally goes hand in hand with self-improvement. The focus is upon ourselves and what we can do to improve ourselves. How I can improve to be a better version of myself. Whilst various factors determine how we grow as humans, it is scientifically proven that giving something to

GROOMED OR DOOMED

"GOOD GROOMING IS INTEGRAL AND IMPECCABLE STYLE IS A MUST. IF YOU DON'T LOOK THE PART, NO ONE WILL WANT TO GIVE YOU TIME OR MONEY" DAYMOND J OHN

By Mr PAUL HOEKSEMA RT 32, Southern Africa

As a young man's organisation, this quote rings true in all aspects of our lives. From closing the deal, date night with the missus, to a Table social with the boys, a well-groomed man not only commands admiration, but he also most certainly exudes confidence. Before our venture as Tablers, most of us would have been in the public eye a lot less than now - of course, a comprehensive grooming ritual should have self-care as the main objective, but it doesn't hurt to stand out in the crowd as a gentleman that knows what the word dapper means. To help you on your grooming journey, here are some handpicked tips to make you shine brighter than your Chairman's Jewel:

49

RTI LEG AC Y | groomed or doomed

1

S K I N C A R E A D D S FL A I R As well as looking good, a basic skincare routine is beneficial for men of all ages. Before using any other products, cleanse/wash your face twice a day, this will remove dirt, grime, and excess oil that has settled inside your pores and on your skin. A face-specific wash should be your go-to product here. Next up, exfoliate (at least twice weekly), exfoliation allows for healthier skin cells to live on the surface of the skin. Choose a gentle face scrub, you don't want your face to look like a strawberry at your next Club meeting. Finally, moisturise twice a day. Hydrating your skin adds refreshing vitamins and nutrients back into your skin as well as protecting it. The best times to use a moisturiser would be in the morning and evening after cleansing your skin. Following a 3-tier skincare regime will get you looking as fresh as a young Louis Marchesi. As a bonus tip, use sunscreen daily. A safe bet would be SPF 30. Protecting your skin against harmful rays will prolong the effects of aging.

50

2

K N OW YO U R B A R B E R BY NAME A fresh cut not only means shaping a mane that would get a chuckle from a local herd of sheep, but the right hairstyle can also shave (pun intended) off years, and it should be an integral part of your grooming regime. Ask your chosen barber for advice on a hairstyle that fits you. Depending on the growth of your hair, a trim/cut could be anything from three to four weeks or a month. If you notice your hair needs a cut, chances are others have noticed too. Remember to add trimming your eyebrows and removing that unwanted nose and ear hair to your to-do barber visit.

51

3

DON'T MAKE THE BEARD WEIRD Again, your barber should be worth his weight in gold here. Stay away from Gandalf's fur unless you intend to be an extra in a fantasy film. Whether you choose a scruffy look or captain-worthy facial hair, a well-maintained beard will add to your slick and manly appearance. Gone are the days of limited products to help keep your man-fur in check. With so many beard oils, balms & static-free bamboo combs, a quick Google search can pinpoint you in the right direction of sporting an alpha beard. If you are not sporting a beard and the clean-shaven approach is your signature look, replace your razor regularly and use a quality after shave balm or cream.

Brushing twice daily might get the job done in most cases but being on top of your minty freshness game takes a bit more. Let's start with drinking more water - drinking lots of water prevents dehydration, this helps as a lack of saliva in the mouth makes your mouth the perfect playground for bacteria and particles that produce bad breath. Don't forget to floss, flossing helps remove said bacteria, plaque, and food from between your teeth, and helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Make use of an antibacterial alcohol-free mouthwash to bolster your oral hygiene. In an ideal world, brushing your teeth after every meal would be best. This not always being possible, chewing sugar-free gum can help you as this produces saliva. As for using a conventional toothbrush, consider investing in an electric toothbrush as they are way more effective in removing plaque and food particles. To get the most out of your toothbrush, they should be replaced every 3 months. Now say "I am a Tabler" in the freshest breath possible.

K N O C K T H E M D E A D, B U T N O T W I T H YO U R S M E L L Fact - sweat itself does not smell, but it is a breeding ground for bacteria. It goes without saying, having a shower (twice a day) will help you stay fresh on the "he smells nice" front, but it's not that simple...From your head to your toes, there are some pivotal steps to follow to get you smelling like a holiday in Spain. So, let's dive right in. At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious, wash your hair at least 3 times a week and be sure to use conditioner too. When taking a shower or bath opt for a soap-free body wash as they are formulated to be more hydrating and replenishing to the skin. When drying yourself always use a clean towel - that old rag resembling a Gothic age gargoyle in the corner of your bathroom will not do! On to the enhancement of your smell antiperspirant deodorant is your go-to here. As for cologne, try to pair your overall smell to match your body wash & antiperspirant. A high-end cologne not only makes a statement but also stretches out quite a bit more. Don't bounce between too many fragrances as you would like to create your own signature smell. Aim for your pulse points, such as your inner wrists and neck, and for the sake of your fellow man (and the missus), don't use too much (2-4 squirts are ideal). Now for the nether regions - down under might be the spot most favourable for foul-smelling bacteria, if not kept in check, they might even decide to have their own AGM. Kill those ball-roaming pests with a decent body or ball powder. There should be some great options available at your local pharmacy. If you can't get your hands on a body or ball powder and as a last resort, you can settle for baby powder. As for your feet, the same rule applies when it comes to bacteria. If you struggle with smelly walkers, be sure to use a foot deodorant or powder, readily available at any supermarket.

BE HANDS ON You would be surprised how many people notice your hands before most of your other features. Having clean hands and nails adds to your overall grooming suave. Clean and cut your nails regularly and make sure your hands are sanitised as often as you can. Using a fastabsorbing moisturising lotion or cream can keep your hands soft and prevent cracking. And gents, there is nothing wrong with visiting your local salon for a manicure. Of course, some of our Members work with heavy machinery and tools making some of the above difficult, but not impossible. Keep it simple and keep it clean. Now give a thumbs up to well-groomed hands with well-groomed hands!

PLAYING THE COIN GAME

by Mr GRAHAM CORNELISSEN RT Jukskei 217, Southern Africa

Most of us have seen this game being played by Tablers taking out coins around a bar, and then some being happy while others must buy a round of drinks. Read on further to participate and how you can never lose at this game again.

A

S WITH MANY OF our Round Table traditions, the exact origin of the coin game is not known precisely. This is clearly a tradition taken from the various armed services across the globe. This is a tradition dating back

many years.

The first mention of the challenge or fellowship

coins in a Round Table setting comes from an old article in the 1980s where several Danish Tablers were seen having customised coins. The coin game has evolved, and only one set of published rules currently exists. These rules have been published by Round Table 128 Bryanston in Southern Africa. These generally accepted rules are:

RU L E S O F T H E COI N G A M E It is in every Tabler’s best interest to carry his coin with him at all times. The tradition of a challenge is the most common way to ensure that the members are carrying their coin. The challenge, which can be made at any time, begins with the Challenger drawing the coin, and slapping or placing the coin on the table or bar. A challenge can happen at any time when Round Table members get together socially, it does not have to be an official Table event. In noisy environments, continuously rapping the coin on a surface may initiate the challenge. Accidentally dropping a coin is considered to be a deliberate challenge to all present. Everyone being challenged must immediately produce their coin and anyone failing to do so must buy a round of drinks for the Challenger and everyone else who has their coin. Each member present who fails to produce their coin will buy a round of drinks for the Challenger and every member who has their coin. However, should everyone challenged be able to produce their coin, the Challenger must buy a round of drinks for the group. While most Tablers usually carry their coin in in wallets or pockets, the rules permit a challenged person “a step and a reach” to fetch their coin. Leaving the room to get a coin is not permitted and this is determined a forfeit. Leaving the room to get a coin is not permitted and this is determined a forfeit. Should you not have a coin with you, you are limited to buying one round of drinks only per evening. (Additional rule from Round Table Denmark).

FINDING LEADERSHIP

HOW MUCH LEADERSHIP IS NEEDED? By Mr MARC GERMESHAUSEN, RT 11, Austria

58

RTI LEG AC Y | f inding le ader ship

F

OR OVER 95 YEARS, ROUND TABLE has provided various skillsets for young men. We fulfil various roles on a local, regional, national or international level. This year, we act as an icon for many others to come. We engage ourselves in our movement next to our businesses, work, family, and friends. But how much leadership is needed, and what are the key elements for a great year within Round Table?

If we are thinking of Round Table: What is it for you? For some of us, RT is service,

charity, and responsibility towards society. For some, it is fellowship and friendship. For some, it is meeting old friends for the first time and exploring the globe. Some of us are using it for business opportunities and networking. Round Table means to every tabler worldwide something different. These topics might change during your time at Table, but it binds us together as one world. When talking about leadership, we need to reflect on those various fields as every person, every club, and every association is working differently and focusing on other parts. That is diversity worth celebrating. During your year in any leadership role within Round Table, you can contribute and bring in your visions for our movement. You will gain a massive toolbox with new skills, experience, passion, patency, cultural difference, etc. But what is needed to be a good leader and have an excellent performance in your year? In general, we can say that there is no unique way to describe excellent leadership skills. As tablers, there are some key elements we should consider in taking a portfolio. Leadership skills are the abilities people have and how they implement

"Leadership skills are the abilities people have and how they implement various activities and projects, guiding meetings and how to empower others."

various activities and projects, guiding meetings and how to empower others. Many books recommend active listening, empathy, the ability to share clear messages and make complex ideas easy to understand for everyone, strategic thinking skills, creativity, the ability to inspire and convince others, flexibility, turning information into action, project planning, etc. Within Round Table, it is definitely a combination of various skillsets. But it is also a massive team effort. You are only as strong as your team is. This we can actually see right now in the RTI Board as we are #StrongerTogether. Set yourself realistic goals which you and your team can achieve during the year. A club year within RT is gone so fast. If you are running for any chairman/president position, use your vice-year to prepare your roadmap. Talk to people you would like to involve in your team. Be clear for yourself and set a focus and self-development and go directly into team development. Together you can use strategic thinking and act in ethical practice and civic-mindedness. We don’t need to develop the wheel over and over again. Our motto is Adopt. Adapt. Improve. We can use methods from the past, adapt them to current circumstances and improve them where needed. This is the way we as leaders can show new innovations. We should encourage everybody in our club to take up a leading role in our organization. Leadership skills can be developed, and we are gaining new abilities every day. We can achieve milestones in our community within a wonderful team, where we are all rooted. Let’s show our passion for our movement and be proud to be a Tabler!

WRITING A KILLER REPORT OR ARTI C LE

NOT ALL OF US ARE A NATURALLY BORN HEMMINGWAY OR SHAKESPEARE. FOLLOWING THESE TIPS WILL ENSURE YOU DO NOT LOOK LIKE A DICKENS WHEN WRITING YOUR NEXT REPORT OR ARTICLE. By MR GRAHAM CORNELISSEN, Jukskei 217, Southern Africa

The sharing of ideas and best practices using the written word is the cornerstone of modern society. It has been so for thousands of years. With our inherently brief careers in being part of a young man's organisation, the only remnants are often found in old reports or articles. This legacy must be reserved, but this must be of good quality. Here are some insights into how to increase the quality of your next report or article:

70

RTI LEGAC Y | mak ing the most

C H A R AC T E R I S T IC S Original content of which the writer is genuinely knowledgeable and has been well-researched A clear message from the content with no unnecessary wording, ideas, or fluff A writing style in line with the rest of the publications or at least suitable for the content. A catchy title High-quality pictures or other visuals supporting the content

W H E R E T O S TA R T ? Writing anything, as outlined above, is no easy task. Broken down into a step-by-step guide makes this process significantly easier. Think about the message you want the reader to get > This is the goal of the report or article > What should the reader learn or know once they read the content? > Write this down and regularly check if the content is in line with achieving this goal

Research the topic you are writing about, even if all of this will not be used in the article. Ask yourself if you are knowledgeable enough to write about a specific topic. If you are not sure, ask someone more knowledgeable to assist you. Assume that the audience is not knowledgeable about the subject matter. The context will be key Draft an outline of the major topics to be addressed Start writing, keeping in mind to keep things simple. Review the opening paragraph once a first draft is done to ensure that this hooks people into reading the article Choose a suitable and catchy title that will interest readers Do a final review of the article to decide if the article's goal has been met. If this has been met, remove the goal as written down. Perform a spelling and grammar check Send the article to a friend or peer who will assist you with honest feedback

DOS AND DON'TS: Do respect the deadline of articles as this will allow sufficient time for the editorial process to occur Do remember to spell and grammar check using the correct language and dialect as needed Do use bullet points whenever possible as this makes it easier to read longer articles Do not plagiarise – For quotes used, ensure proper credit is given Do not write your opinion on matters unless this is an opinion piece. Use facts that can be easily verified Do not write fluff or unnecessary fluff just to fill pages or the number of required words. Less is more.

And that Word is HYGGE (pronounced "hoo-gah") But remember, hygge isn't just a word; it's a concept Hygge didn't originate in the Danish language but in old Norwegian, which meant something like "well-being." It first appeared in Danish writing around the end of the 18th century, and the Danes have embraced it ever since. One good thing about hygge is that you can apply it anywhere. Danes allocate it generously to everything commonplace, as you will surely find out on your visit to Denmark.

DENMARK Danmark [ˈ d̥ ænmɑɡ̊ ]

DENMARK IS THE southernmost country in Scandinavia, sharing a border with Northern Germany. Denmark is surrounded by the ocean. The many islands in Danish waters give it a very long coastline of 8,750 Kilometers. Nowhere in Denmark are you more than 52 KM from the sea. Denmark is organised as a Monarchy. The political system is set up around the "Grundloven af 1849" – the law of laws in Denmark – the constitution, if you will. Other than Denmark, the Unity of the Realm consists of Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Both Greenland and The Faroe Islands have their own sovereignty and their own governments, but they are both under the Danish constitution. Denmark is also very well known for its design, designers and companies, of which we can mention Arne Jacobsen, who did the beautiful furniture and Henning Poulsen, who did the world-famous PH lamps, and the latest addition to this is the world-famous architect, Bjarke Ingels and his BIG Group. Among the large, International companies are LEGO, Vestas, Maersk and Danfoss.

FACTS Denmark as a nation dates back to the Viking Age, and today the population of 5,8m people have been considered among the happiest countries in the world. Why not come experience this first hand at the RTI World Meeting 2022?.

CO PE N H AG E N København [kʰøb̥ m̩ ˈ hɑwˀn] COPENHAGEN IS PLACED in the heart of the Nordic region. With our infrastructure, you can cross the entire county from east to west in less than 4 hours. Copenhagen offers all the options of any capital; combined with the Dane's unique style of hospitality, tabling and friendship, you will feel welcomed anywhere you go. Denmark also offers a multicultural food experience, not to forget that they also serve probably the best beer in the world. Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gammel Strand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Copenhagen has a long history well integrated with today's modern life. Thanks to yesterday's and today's immigration, the city is a multicultural centre. A fact that contributes to Copenhagen's international atmosphere. One of the largest cities in northern Europe, Copenhagen is also one of Europe's busiest hubs. The city's location has created commercial routes to far and near throughout centuries in an almost natural way. Today's Copenhagen is very easy to reach by air, sea or land. Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (airport code CPH) is a major Northern European air hub with direct flights to most larger European cities and transatlantic and other faraway destinations. With over 1.1 million inhabitants, the Greater Copenhagen area represents one-third of Denmark's entire population in an integrated labour market due to a well-developed infrastructure. Top attractions include visiting Nyhavn, Tovoli Gardens, Rosenborg Castle and many more. Day tours will show you all that is needed

PA R T Y N E V E R S T O P S I N CO PE N H AG E N IF IT WERE UP TO us, the official parties would never end, but all good things must eventually end. That does not mean that the night will have to end there - far from. Nightlife in Copenhagen is very safe, and it is right outside the door of your hotel. Vesterbro has the popular Meat Packing District and all the bars across from Tivoli Gardens and City Square. Nyhavn, which you will be passing right through if you decide to walk back from the Viking Part on Thursday and Nations Night on Friday, is packed with bars, and the party vibe is felt all the way out into the street. This is also where you will find the “morning bar”, which closes at 10 AM - just in time for you to continue to the next bar, which opens at 10 next door. During the day, should you decide to not go on one of our day tours, we recommend a visit to “the beer cave” in Tivoli Gardens. The atmosphere there is one of enjoyment and brotherhood. Copenhagen has a special vibe in September. The music and the party are never far away, and we cannot wait to show you all that our vibrant city offers.

WHY NOT INDULGE A BIT? The Viking night and the nations night will have a bar run by Tablers and for Tablers. With very affordable Table pricing on all drinks.

T I VO L I H OT E L The perfect Danish backdrop

YOU CANNOT SAY “Denmark” without simultaneously saying “Tivoli”, and we want to make sure you get all the best of Denmark. That is why we are so excited to have secured the Tivoli Hotel as our Main Hotel for the World Meeting. The hotel is centrally placed in Copenhagens hip neighbourhood of Vesterbro. It is within walking distance of Tivoli Gardens, the Central Station, the Main Square and The Meat Packing District – A great place to party after the official parties end. Across the road from the hotel, the “harbour bus” will take you straight down to the popular Nyhavn, where you will see spectacular historic buildings and find more bars than you will have time to visit. All with the classic Danish outdoor service. We are going for full-on “hygge”, and Tivoli Hotel will provide the perfect backdrop for this. When getting into an elevator or sitting down for breakfast, there is an 80 % chance that the person across from you is also staying there for the World Meeting. All we need is for you to be there and share in the spirit of Hygge.

THE FUZZ OF THE ARCTIC WHEN? 15th-19th September

PRICE? € 1,810

NO! Greenland is still not for sale, but if you want to visit, here is the chance you have been waiting for! The story goes that when the Vikings arrived at the shores of Iceland, they were greeted by ice. Thus, the name Island. Likewise, when they arrived in Greenland, what greeted them was the green of the coastline. It turned out to be the other way around, but who are we to correct the Vikings? Greenland is Greenland, even though it is more than a green view from a coastline. Greenland is the arctic – it is wild, it is beautiful, it is unforgiving, it is rough, and it is absolutely amazing in every way. The land of polar bears, whales, warm hearts and stunning sights waits to show you all its wonders on this fantastic pre-tour guided by the people who live and work there – the Greenlanders

That is why we need to plan for departure on the 19th to ensure that we will be in Copenhagen for the World Meeting. GUIDED CANAL B OAT DURATION 1 hour AVAILABLE Thursday, Friday and Saturday PRICE € 30 including lunch Copenhagen is very well known for its waterways. The harbour it is said, is so clean that you can eat the filter feeders from the bottom, and the locals use it for swimming and all sorts of water activities during both summer AND winter months. Many of the most prestigious and beautiful architecture is located along the water's edge. Much of the old navy area (Denmark used to be a force to be reckoned with on the seas) is preserved or transformed into modern housing with hints of the storied days. On this boat tour through the harbour and canals, you get to see the water view of the Little Mermaid, the Opera House, Amalienborg Castle, the old navy area and the new and very modern bridges. You will also get a sense of the local leisure time on and around the water, where champagne corks fly, and beers and cocktails are raised in cheers.

Most of you will know of the undying play by Shakespeare, Hamlet, and The Prince of Denmark, but did you know his castle stands for you to see today? The play is set on the Castle of Kronborg, north of Copenhagen – a castle with a rich history and with great significance in Denmark. For mariners, Kronborg is a waypoint and Danish children are taught that in the basement sits a great warrior, Holger Danske (Holger Danish), and should Denmark come under attack, he shall rise and shield in hand, defend your country. The castle is located in one of the most beautiful coastal cities in Denmark and is itself a sight to be witnessed. Standing on the shore, you can easily see Sweden across the water. On this tour, we have arranged a guided tour of the castle, stops on the way, and time for a walk in the scenic landscape. "The rest is silence."

REAT NEW FRIENDSHIPS, a wife, some crazy memories and a deadly parasitic bacteria.... are just some of what I have brought home with me from international tabling. It all started with I a single and

fairly new Tabler a few years back... maybe 10 years plus now. Some well travelled 41ers would not stop going on about how incredible an experience it is attending Table events in foreign countries. So, to shut them up, and see if there was any truth to their rants, I booked myself in to an STM (SEM these days) meeting in Cyprus. From that point on, the Travel Bug had me!!! The welcome you recieve is just awesome. If you travel to an event, international, regional or national AGM, you are among friends the minute you touch down. Every tabler is an unconditional friend. A pretour is a must if you can. The local tablers go out of their way to accommodate and know to leave out the tourist traps and middle men. I have brown-water raftered in the Himalayas, played football with village kids on a beach in lemur living east Madagascar, snowmobiled in damn freezing winter Iceland, and quad biked in Morocco with a bunch of crazy-arse Danes. And the

parties!!!!! Nations nights are the big ones where you get to taste the best foods of the nationalities present, and their worst alcoholic drinks. Delicious and sickly at the same time. An absolute mess normally 😆. Every trip I go on now I bump into past friends and make new ones. I have been to over 20 Tabling countries, some repeated. Sri Lanka, unfortunately repeated several times, to the pain and despair of the local tablers. One Lankan tabler even emigrated to Austria (see you at the next Austrian AGM Ranil 😆). When I tell my local friends I have International best mates..... "What the hell are those" is the usual response. Not being an International Tabler they just can't grasp the concept. Or maybe they are all just a little slow lol. With a handful of local best mates, I consider myself fortunate. And now with a handful of international best mates through Tabling, I consider myself privileged. Its the friendships that make international tabling truly special. So if you havent already, then sign up, get out there.... and look out for me at the bar.

S A SECOND-GENERATION TABLER, travelling and international events were one of the things I looked most forward to. I joined Round Table in 2020/2021, which means all these ambitions got put on hold. When I met Christopher, David, James and Mark, four Maltese Tablers, during the

Italian AGM in Faenza last July, they told me about their AGM in Malta in November. The decision to join that event was an easy one. Coincidentally Malta has been on my list of places to visit for a long time. COVID cancelled a trip there twice, so plane tickets got booked for my first international RT event once the date was out. Little did I know how much fun it would be. The main reason was that only four people signed up for the pre-tour, but luckily for those, there was also the Number 2 Euro meeting held in Malta. So, the three lucky guys and one lady were added to the group. My aeroplane landed late in Malta, there was a delay of a few hours, but nevertheless, Joe picked me up and got me to the boat party. Not knowing anybody, the welcome was warm in true “meeting old friends for the first time” fashion. It didn’t matter that the group was made of different nationalities, from the first hour we were all brothers having a good time. Little did it matter that everybody had a different background. We were from Malta, England, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Estonia, and Switzerland, and we all spoke the same language of friendship and drinks. On that line, the trip continued. The next day we left for the second island Gozo. After picking up some beers for the bus and ferry ride, enjoying stories and keeping an eye open that everybody was drinking with their left hand. We had the chance to see Malta from the point of view of a local. I doubt that many tourists would go to eat in a restaurant that looked like a zoo shop, with parrots watching you eat, start an enormous Lalala in the old city square of Vittorija at sunset, that security started to keep a closer eye on us, or got to eat roasted pork on the beach, after a swim in November. We celebrated a midnight birthday with warm Sambucca. Some of u wore a toilet seat like a necklace. We made a Dad cry by buffaloing his son Daniel. At the end of the pre-tour and the beginning of the AGM, we got invited to the home hosted parties by Christopher and his Mum. She opened her home for us and welcomed us like old friends. The AGM itself followed with the chance to meet even more people from all over the world, or some Italian friends from home again. Basically, every encounter was a party. All in all, it was a week well spent and a worthy first international tabling experience. I’m looking forward to many more, with the World Meeting in Copenhagen and the AGM in Cyprus on the agenda after visiting Marrakech for the HYM. In times like this, creating friendship and connections across borders is the best way to be StrongerTogether.

E X PLORE RO U ND TABLE

EXPLORE RT 35

A

FTER TWO YEARS without international Tabling, it was finally possible to travel again to beautiful Amberg in Germany, a small city in the heart of famous Bavaria. Even though the number 35 clubs have existed for many years in many different countries, there

hasn't been a tradition for a number's meeting amongst us. Few clubs participate in events together, and some we have never met before. This was all about to change when a friendly message was sent out from 235 Amberg-Sulzbach about a number's meeting this Spring. The date was set, the location was set – but would there be participants from Europe? Covid still loomed, and there was a bit of uncertainty about travelling – would the meeting be a success? After months and weeks of intense WhatsApp dialogue, it was clear that many clubs from all over Europe were interested in joining the meeting. We quickly booked our flights. Round Table 35 Oslo was out travelling again to say hello to old friends we were going to meet for the first time, our fellow 35/135/235 friends from all over Europe. Upon arrival at Nuremberg Airport, we were met by a happy group of tablers from 235 Amber who showed up with beer, transport and good spirits. Everyone got a beer and a ride back to Amberg for a traditional Biergarten with lots of beers (obviously) and traditional German/Bavarian food consisting of sausages and more sausages. We spent the night getting to know each other and talking to other tablers arriving from Germany, Austria and Sweden. The following day was spent in the old town of Amberg on a short city walk before we had a pub crawl to explore the different parts of the city. With almost 30 degrees Celsius and no clouds, it was a fantastic experience. The evening was spent at a Tablerowned bar where Tablers from Belgium had joined and was ready for banner exchange. All of the visiting clubs brought gifts to the hosts and banners for exchange. Since the 20th of May is the charter date anniversary of RT 35 Oslo, we choose to celebrate this with our new friends over numerous bottles of wine – a great success! Come Saturday, and everyone was excited about a Bavarian breakfast – what could it possibly be? Surprise, surprise, it was more sausages and more sauerkraut. But for the Bavarian breakfast, most of the crowd turned up in traditional lederhosen, ready to explore the city again – but this time on a gin tonic cruise on the river. The night ended with a fantastic traditional celebration of "Kirwa Kümmersbruck" just outside Amberg. This was an experience like no other, with traditional food, music, and lots of beer! The night ended with a giant tent full of tablers and several hundred locals singing Sweet Caroline, Don't Stop Believing, and lots of other great songs until the early morning. Next year the meeting will take place in Oslo, and we can't wait to show our new friends the fantastic city. Until next time

Round Table started in 1927 in Norwich – England, so many years ago. We are a ‘young’ Association with a maximum age of 40 (45) with an average of 5-10 years of active life. Most of us know only the last few years of our own Associations history, let alone the history of other Associations. 113

E HAVE CHARTERED Round Table in more than 100 countries through these years. Unfortunately, a number of these have closed. Some have been rechartered, but many others

have closed and disappeared. The idea to write this book started back in 20/07

when I was the EMA Chairman. Still, due to the workload with RTI, the idea never took off until 2011, when I presented my plan during the EMATM 2011 in Brasov. Since then, I started gathering information from fellow Tablers, websites, articles from various publications, or my own database. During the EMATM 2014 in Hoorn, I presented the first draft copy of the book. During the RTI HYM 2020 in Luxembourg, I presented the RT Book again to the delegates. Everything seemed ready to proceed with the printing of the first copies. Still, unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the fact that there were no physical meetings for almost two years, the printing of the book was put on hold. So earlier this year, I printed the updated copy of the book and presented it to the RTI HYM in Marrakesh. As we used to say, “Round Table is a Young Association with limited memory.” And how true this is and how difficult it was to gather all this information. Every day something else was popping along, something else that connected all the dots and something else that made the history of Round Table even more complete. So, now 14 years later and after long hours of work, the book is finally finished. A grand book of 740 pages with more than 2000 colour photos and 1500 Logos and Banners in the book. The book will be printed shortly, and you can get your copy either from your National shops, at the RTIWM in Copenhagen, or from Nicos directly.

FRIED PORK BELLY WITH NEW POTATOES AND PARSLEY SA U C E By LADIES' CIRCLE DENMARK, from the LCI Recipe Book

The recipe and dish is orientated from the rural kitchens in Denmark in the beginning of 1800s - and has been a traditional everyday meal for generations of Danes that just want to taste the juicy fried pork belly with potatoes and parsley sauce. The dish was prepared and served in restaurants about 1850 - and a bit earlier in the city household kitchens. Here is a very old and simple recipe from the 18th century - which is very easy to prepare - cook and serve - and a recipe that has been useful for generations - and is used widely in today’s Danish kitchens - as well as at public eating places. Preparation 15 min Cooking 30 min INGREDIENTS 1000 g Pork belly in slices (unsalted) 1 kg Potatoes (new) 50 g Danish Butter 4 tablespoons Wheat flour 4 dl Milk 3,5% 1 dl Whipping Cream 1-2 dl Chopped fresh parsley Salt (according to taste) Pepper (according to taste) 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg - if preferred

DIRECTIONS Prepare the Pork Belly Cut the pork belly in 5-6 mm thick slices - then dry the slices on kitchen roll towel for a while. Season the slices with salt and pepper before frying. Potatoes and Parsley Start peeling the potatoes. Put them in a pot - and cover them with cold water. Boil the potatoes for 15-20 minutes. You can leave the skin on - if you prefer. Especially “new” potatoes of the season with very thin tender - white skin. Chop the parsley into pieces. Some parsley for the sauce and some for decoration. The Parsley Sauce Make a butter ball of butter and flour and stir continuously - while melting in the sauce pot - and until the mixture is turned into a consistent mass. Ad little milk and stir. Repeat until the sauce has the consistency that you favour. Not to thick and not to light. Do not boil the sauce. You will end up having prepared a kind of white “béchamel sauce”. Add the whipping cream and taste the sauce. Put nutmeg in - if preferred. Then add all the chopped parsley - and season to taste with salt and pepper - while stirring. Let the sauce simmer for 5-10 minutes - so the ingredients are stirred and mixed together - while sucking up flavour. Fry the pork belly Fry the pork belly slices for almost 2 minutes on each side on a hot pan with moderate heat until they seem crispy and with a golden surface. Dry them again on kitchen roll towel - where some of the fat can drain and keep the fried pork belly slices warm in an oven until serving. Oven or Grill. One can also put the pork belly in the heated 200°C oven and fry for 20 minutes - while turning the slices after half the roasting time. In the summertime it is quicker to grill the pork belly slices on a well heated charcoal grill. Serving the National Dish Put the lukewarm potatoes on a warm plate - arrange the fried pork belly strips - then pour the warm temperate parsley sauce over the potatoes. Sprinkle some fresh chopped parsley over the dish. Served in good harmony and friendship - while enjoying plenty of strong beer.

B E CO M E A PA R T O F T H E R T I B OA R D THE RTI BOARD consists of 9 elected board members who are then helped by several board assistants. The team works together to achieve the goals set out for the respective year, and every individual contribution is highly valued. To define all of the board roles more clearly, we have updated the RTI Officers handbook to describe the role, set out the responsibilities, and define the expected time commitments per position. The process regarding the nine elected positions is set out in the RTI Rule book. The RTI Board nomination forms are available on Tabler.World or from the RTI Secretary. Several key roles need further to be filled, with those being of the RTI Board Assistants. Fancy yourself the next PRO, CSO, or any of the other listed positions? If so, reach out to the Vice President, Jayant Agrawal, at vicepresident@round-table.org.

C E L E B R AT I N G N E W I N D U C T IO N S THE INDUCTION OF A NEW MEMBER into Round Table is always an event that should be celebrated. One of the biggest benefits of membership is the connections and networks across our global reach. As the RTI Board, we have decided to welcome every new member by sending a special welcoming video message. Please send the new members' names and your table's names to your regional chairmen or to the RTI vice president via email or WhatsApp. We endeavour to have the welcoming video message sent to you within 48 hours. Please use this opportunity and show the global footprint of Round Table and to make inductions something to remember.

E X PLO R E RO U N D TA B L E COMING OUT OF the pandemic, we want as many Tablers as possible to experience travel to another association. We have set significant reserves aside to do this. 78 Subsidies of € 300 each are available, and members from every association are eligible to claim this. We call this “Explore Round Table”. Travel must be done between the RTIWM 2021 and the RTIWM 2022 and must be as follows: Visit a member to another Round Table association and attend any of their events. This cannot be combined with any current RTI travel grants or another form of RTI funding. After completing the visit, the person travelling must write a minimum of a 300-word report to be submitted to their regional chairman. We call on all associations to grab this funding to explore our international brotherhood with both hands. Reach out to any RTI Board member if any more information is required. Every bit helps so please use this funding and Explore Round Table!

G LO B A L H E A D H U N T E R INSPIRED BY RT NORWAY, we have adapted their Headhunter program to a global platform. All of us know of exceptional individuals who could potentially be great Tablers. Using the Global Headhunter platform is a fantastic way for them to become part of our family. Fill in the form on Tabler and we will send these details to a local representative who will reach out to the person. In this way, we can get in vital new blood into Round Table and ensure that excellent men join our brotherhood, no matter where they are. With some successes already coming out from the Global Headhunter, we look forward to what is still to come. Know someone who might be a good Tabler? Add him here
