CAR CLUB

T
he Car Club is once again focused on the next St. Pete Motor Classic Car Show and exciting news is on our new web site, which should be live by the time you read this. It is a massive improvement and allows entrants, volunteers and sponsors to log-in and become a part of our next great show. As before it will be adjacent to the Club on South Straub Park, where we entertained 300+ cars and thousands of spectators, not to mention raising substantial money for our worthy charities. Of course, nothing happens without volunteers from our hard working Committee, to the day of show helpers. As always, we need as many hands as possible to set up, take down, judge cars and direct traffic on that day, plus help with prior promoting of the event. We also need good sponsors, so anyone who wishes or knows of someone who would like to promote their business, please get in touch. Additioinally, we are seeking to add to the committee a position of Treasurer; an individual with some Finance background would be a benefit. Also we are looking for a Social Media expert to help with web site and regular Social Media (Facebook, Instagram etc) updates. Members, Cars and Coffee is still happening, which is a causal meet-up and open to all SPYC members; whatever you drive, not just classics. Come and join us on November 15th at 8:00 am for coffee and breakfast (for those who wish), meeting in the Downtown Clubhouse garage. he “Broads” had a fabulous September of sailing. SPYC’s extraordinary Sue Davidson coached Dana Kollman, KT Trudeau, Juliette Clark and Mik Severini through 720s, accelerating from a full stop, and developing the line of sight across the starting line. We practiced starts and then sailed two mini races. On our Race Committee Training Day, Gloria Davis ran us through the flags and starting sequences with the assistance of Barbara Watson. We then took to the water for three short races. We also worked on perfecting our “rabbit” starts this month. This technique enables us to start a race to windward without a race committee. We had so much fun with it we are planning to keep score for a full year series. October had a very full month of racing activity. We hosted the Commodore Lucas Cup on October 13th, had rabbit race days and then we wrapped up the month with a Halloween Costume Regatta on October 28th.
