With this year coming to an end (f ina lly), we are ready to move for ward into 2021. This year has been cha lleng ing on so many, the least of which are those who lost a loved one during this pandemic. We know things are still not the same, but with f ingers crossed and lots of prayers, we hope to get back to some sort of norma lcy soon.

Ashleigh James Jagim social rep @ashjag87 ash leigh@t hesout her nsocia lt x.com

Early in the spring, we decided not to print issue 5 in July when it was initia lly supposed to be launched. Instead, we’ve spent this year focusing on the positive and helping our vendors and couples get through this pandemic together. We are ama zed to see so many in our industr y ta ke the time to f ine-tune their businesses and launch new products and ser vices. We want to cong ratulate you a ll. We even launched a new product, The Engaged Box. Gift your engaged friends a beautiful box full of useful products from our Featured Pros, featured on pg. 90. During these cha lleng ing times, we want you a ll to know that love is not going any where. It doesn’t matter what day, time, or year it is; love will follow you. The Southern Socia l and our Featured Pros (listed on pg. 138) are here to help g uide and inspire you through it a ll. We want to bring new ideas, inspiration, and education within these pages to assist you in a ll aspects of wedding planning. Celebrating the most lavish to the la id-back wedding and sharing the love a ll around.

Wow! 2020, who knew? I am so excited we are f ina lly here because Issue 5 will knock your socks off. This issue came with its own unique set of cha llenges, but we were honestly thankful for the time to ta ke pause. Out of this pause came some utterly ama zing collaborations and exciting partnerships. We will see some new faces and places that have ta ken us into the Da llas market in this issue. We have been in awe of a ll the love we have received and will continue to see sig nif icant g rowth there. If nothing else comes from this issue, I hope that couples and other industr y professiona ls a like will ta ke a moment to applaud the spirit and resilience of our industr y as a whole. I applaud a ll the professiona ls and eagerly awa it what 2021 will bring!

1

FIND YOUR STYLE Selecting the style you want for your wedding can play a significant role in your budget. Your style is a great way to show off your personality as a couple. Think about the colors, the venue and what time of the year you want to say your “I dos.” Don’t get consumed with “traditions” and trying to please others. Your wedding is about you and your partner, not anybody else. Make your wedding day your own.

2

GET REAL PRICING The Southern Socia l prides ourselves on being transparent and letting you in on what a wedding costs. I’m sure you have read articles, seen photos, and read wedding blogs about the wedding’s average cost. But the tr uth is, it can cost as little or as much as you want. You can most certa inly have a lovely wedding with a $20,000 budget, but if you want to know the tr uth, most of the blogs, maga zines and stunning photos you f ind on Pinterest are going to cost you more. A nd that is okay. It’s a ll about seeing how to get a similar look that f its your budget. Consider getting married on a weekday. It can save you money on the venue side of things. If you f ind the right vendors, they can ma ke your dreams happen within your budget. PHOTOS BY TOP RACHEL ELAINE PHOTOGRAPHY BOTTOM BEATBOX PORTRAITS

3 WAYS TO DE-STRESS WHEN YOUR’RE WEDDING PLANNING by Adrienne Garcia photography by Chua Lee Photography

No matter how prepared you are, every wedding comes with a moment (or five, or ten…) of stress. Whether that’s from navigating relationships, finding yourself amidst an ever-growing to-do list, or simply handling a myriad of changes you didn’t see coming, it all adds up. Not to mention, there’s the constant loop of wedding information playing in the back of your head. How do you break away from the clutter inside your brain to gain some calm and clarity during this incredible time in your life? I asked Tara Becker, licensed master social worker and mental health coach, how stress affects our brain and what can we do to settle it. Based on her experience at Momentous Institute, which works with children and families through education, therapeutic services, and training in social emotional health, here’s what she had to say. Becker explained when we’re stressed, our emotions take over and our critical thinking comes to a halt. We move into fight or flight when we feel overwhelmed or threatened just like we would if we were in physical danger. But there are much better ways to react than to run! “In order to think through our options and respond thoughtfully, we first have to calm our brain and bodies down,” she says. She suggests you get ahead of your stress by knowing your triggers. “If you’re aware, and you notice your body starting to react, you can then take steps to help yourself calm down.” When you notice the signs flashing “I’m stressed!” here are three easy ways to center yourself, according to Becker.

1

Take Slow Deep Breaths When you breathe deeply it

Feeling more relaxed? Good. Take those deep breaths, you’ve got this! And most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy this time! It’s an amazing moment in your life to soak up all the joy that lies ahead. When you get lost in the details, and it all seems too much, remind yourself that you are marrying the love of your life—that’s what truly matters.

Come to our design center and play with your favorite tabletop décor to get a glimpse of how the final product will turn out. You can choose from a variety of linens and china to bring your dream table to life right before your eyes (we also have enough coffee to get you through any design meeting).

Pro Tip

Be open to new looks! We know that you have probably seen a pin on Pinterest or a photo in a magazine and think that you have to have that exact look. Many couples

get discouraged when that image isn’t exactly what they thought when they see it in front of them or is something that is outside their budget. G T E X A S C AT E R I N G Customization is the key to making your wedding day truly special! Every couple adds personal touches to their invitations, floral arrangements, and even their music playlist – what most couples do not think about customizing are their food and bar! Your menu is a great way to incorporate personality into your wedding day. Ask your caterer to re-create your favorite meal to cook together, an appetizer you shared on your first date, or even the cocktail you sipped on after saying, “YES!” Appetizer stations are a fun way to give guests a taste of your love story. Was your first date at the State Fair? Have your favorite fried foods like Mini Corn Dogs and Funnel Cakes for your guests to enjoy! Did they propose in New Orleans? Work with your caterer to create a Creole station with Shrimp and Grits or even Beignets! The possibilities are truly endless. Take the customizations a step further by adding framed photos of your favorite experiences together on the appetizer station to bring those special moments to life! Another unique way to customize your wedding day is by incorporating flavors from your heritage into the wedding meal. Highlighting each family in a shared meal is such a special way to bring both families together and begin a lifetime of love. After the wedding meal, toast to your new life as a married couple with a custom bar designed for your wedding day! Your caterer can create a signature drink that you both love or make “his” and “hers” cocktails that pair perfectly with your style. Add an interactive element for guests by incorporating a Whiskey, Wine, or Craft Beer tasting station at your wedding. Just like appetizer stations, tasting stations can be personalized for each couple. Whether it’s Texas Whiskey, locally brewed beers, or premium wines from your favorite region, your guests will enjoy an interesting, new experience that they will never forget! It is important to recognize the moments that bring everyone together. For many, these priceless memories occur at the dinner table. Sharing an intimate meal with your closest friends and family and adding personalized touches to your catering and bar service can make your wedding day feel even more special.

“Even though I enjoy many different styles of photography, my style leans towards a contemporary, cinematic feel. My goal in this type of style is to create visual storytelling images. I combine technical skill, imagination, and my passion for photography to produce images that leave my clients speechless. Nowadays, anybody with a cell phone or a camera can go out and take a decent picture. With my style, I try to separate myself by creating high production value looking images that will be a long-lasting timepiece for my clients. Planning the perfect cocktail(s)? YOUR WEDDING DATE IS APPROACHING, AND IT’S TIME TO DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF DRINKS YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER. AT DFW BARTENDING, WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU! HERE ARE SOME IDEAS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN CHOOSING THE PERFECT COCKTAILS:

Pro Tip

What type of event are you planning? Many of our events are formal weddings so we focus on a black-tie formal setting drink that could include an old fashioned or gimlet.

What type of alcohol do you and your guests prefer? If your

Pro Tip

favorite mix drink base is Vodka, make sure there is plenty available at your event. Vodka can be the base for many tasteful beverages. If you know you have guests who prefer tequila drinks, then make sure to have some available for drinks such as a classic Margarita or Paloma.

Pro Tip

You may want a drink to match the current season. If your event will take place during the fall, you might not want a bunch of summertime beverages. The fall season tends to bring out flavors such as Cider and

Cinnamon to pair with your favorite whiskey. Warm up during chilly fall evenings with drinks such as Irish coffee or Spiked Cinnamon Cider.

Pro Tip

What

do you want

to

dress your cocktail with?

Obviously, you want your cocktails to taste delightful but many times the garnishments make the cocktail. A beautifully garnished cocktail is a work of art that

entices guests to give it a try. Garnishments could range from a flavorless herb with seasonal fruit to a bold mint flavor for a mojito or mule. At the end of the day, the perfect cocktail is in the hand of the beholder. Everyone has different tastes and opinions. Be creative and festive when it comes to deciding what cocktails you want at your event. Your guests will remember their cocktails especially if they leave wanting to try them again!

Under the Tuscan Sun photography by Alba Rose Photography

Create an outdoor theatre experience complete with a four-string quartet and a classic ballerina for a unique cocktail hour.

“This Tuscan inspired editorial was dreamt up by creatives Rosy Gaytan of Alba Rose Photography, Alexandra Turner of Vella Nest Floral Design, and Morgan Hilts of Southern Enchantments. A carefully curated story was developed around a girl who fell in love with a handsome Italian man during a trip to Italy. Through thoughtful design Morgan and Alex intertwined elements of the arts with soft, modern touches. Each and every detail was carefully crafted to bring this story to fruition which was portrayed through an elevated design, the performing arts, and bold color palette.” - Morgan, Southern Enchantments

Love on the Levee photography by Beatbox Portraits

Everyone will have a front-row seat to “I do” with 360 ceremony seating.

“Based on an industrial space, we went with a modern and minimalist feel in the classic color palette black and white. Greenery pieces brought in texture and lush white floral softened the overall look. With such a clean white backdrop we were able to make style pops throughout the event.” Ashlee, Mrs. Planner

Fleurs en France photography by Kelsey Lanae Photography

We love the pink velvet linen for the head table and a coordinating color of yellow for guest tables. Don’t be afraid of color.

“When designing this vision, I wanted an artful yet feminine vibe. I chose different shades of pink and yellow with bold statements of velvet, gold and black. With the modern look of the gold rimmed glassware, we added a personalized, edible touch for each guest - custom macarons. The free and organic look of the flowers shows off their shape and adds more dimension to cover more space giving the table a fuller look. This clean color palette gives off a simple, yet powerful vibe with the bride’s bejeweled cap sleeve gown and groom’s shimmery sheen pink jacket and black bow tie. This style brought out the uniqueness to the French style venue, while also making it blend in perfectly with their details.” - Amy, Mrs. Planner

Wildly in Love

photography by Teshorn Jackson Photography

Using elements from your venue in your décor and menu will make for a fun and bold statement.

”When the Dallas World Aquarium is the backdrop for your wedding, it isn’t hard to find inspiration to create something beautiful. My inspiration was to create a chic city feel with deep colors that complement all the aquarium’s beautiful spaces. We started in the Endangered Species Gallery with our ceremony setup that would later be transformed into the reception venue. The backdrop for the ceremony is the large fish tank, we framed it with lush floral, so it creates a phenomenal focal point. The Cloud forest lounge was the backdrop for the cocktail hour/lounge. It is such a beautiful space with one LED wall with a live feed from the rain forest. To complete the experience, there is a light fog that radiates throughout the space. Couples rarely get a chance to have any quiet time on the wedding day. This is where creating a romantic sweetheart table where the couple can enjoy a private moment while their guests are enjoying cocktail hour. It can also be the perfect spot to celebrate an elopement.”- Reytheda, Stohr-ee Events

Summertime Sweetness photography by Angela Germany Photography

A colorful centerpiece filled with a variety of fruit adds interest and texture to your table. Mix in some cocktails in fun glasses, and your guests will be sure to remember the experience of the day.

Inspired by the fun, summery, and unique “Lemon Drop” mobile bar, this styled shoot was as sweet, bright, and cheery as the fruit you’ll find in every shot. We started the day with frolicking in the field at our incredible venue The Pearl at Sabine Creek. Every inch of The Pearl is breathtakingly beautiful. We then ventured over to the Tap & Fizz bar where she had prepared beautiful cocktails for the couple. This gives them a moment to take a breath, and maybe a shot, before returning to their guests. The fruit and floral arrangements were the main focus of the head table. The fruit layout was one of the most talked about, and admired parts of the day. It was such a fun way to add color, and the sweetness of summer. Then, we finished the day by chasing the sunset and celebrating with champagne.” - Angela Germany Photography

Love and Vino

photography by Hannah Way Photography

Your invitation is the first impression guests will have of your wedding, so it should fit your style. We love adding a personalized touch, such as a watercolor of the venue where you are getting married.

“Can we all close our eyes and escape reality for a second? When I close my eyes, I envision a place that is surrounded by rolling hills, lush grape vines, and to-die for sunsets. The first time I laid eyes on Umbra Winery, it looked just like my dreams. For this shoot, I wanted to create a modern day fantasy with old world features. I chose a romantic color palette of pink, ivory, purple, and blue. I brought in a team of vendors that created a magical day. The couple dined under the antique bell tower designed by our team at Events by Jade with beautiful flowers by Vivienne and Vine. The couple danced their way around the room in a cloud of smoke bubbles to be later whisked outside for toasts provided by Bubbles and Brews Dallas. They ended the evening with romantic “sparks” in the perfect get-a-way vintage ride from DFW Classic Car Rentals.” - Jade, Events by Jade

Whimsical Orchard photography by Beatbox Portraits

You are not limited to just a shade of white for your wedding dress. More brides are stepping away from tradition and choosing a dress simply because they like the color. Blue symbolizes stability, security, and lifelong loyalty. What color will you choose?

“The Orchard Event Venue was the perfect inspiration for this Whimsical Paradise. With over 100 acres of immaculately manicured grounds, couples will not be disappointed. This look included a touch of playfulness showcased in our carnival-style invitation suite, shaved ice signature cocktails, and show-stopping cake and desserts all softened by the bright and bold color pallet and elegant floral. This whimsical theme is perfect for the couple who wants to showcase their playful and fun side while still presenting a sophisticated look.” Stephanie, Wedding Event Design (W.E.D.)

Imperial Blooms photography by Hannah Way Photography

2021 has us looking for edgier hanging displays. Give your guests an immersion experience by enhancing floral displays for a memorable day.

“With Hidden Creek being such a versatile venue, I love playing around with different looks and feels that I think future brides might like. I often times see brides stick to more neutral tones for their wedding, which is beautiful but can sometimes become a bit redundant for me since I have seen over 300 weddings in my time here. For this shoot I really wanted to do a color that I had not yet seen in our space. As soon as I saw the blue hues from the velvet runner in our venue I was obsessed! The electric blue against the soft brown wood just popped in such an elegant way. While pinks and neutrals are nice, I think the blue really elevates the whole look of the space. I think the rich blues made the brides white dress pop even more, which is always exciting for me to see.” - Brett Welch, Hidden Creek

Hacienda del Amor photography by Beatbox Portraits

From wearing unconventional accessories to having a more progressive dinner, we are excited to see more of a thoughtful and detailed experience for your guests.

“Romance and reflection of culture were the inspiration for this shoot. I wanted to show couples a little slice of southwest heaven right here in North Texas. Think Sedona in the fall! You can see inflection from Native American culture, Central Mexico, and even Cuba throughout the venue and the shoot. Our venue offers a destination feel in your own backyard. Everything from the models to the vintage vest on the groom was handpicked to show culture through heritage. The vest and the tie worn by the groom were my father’s, the original owner of the property. Neutrals and earth tones were chosen to compliment the naturally beautiful landscape without taking away from the craftsmanship of the wood accents and boldness of the white stucco architecture. This shoot literally transcends you to another time and place.” - Mamie, Lazy S Hacienda

Simplicity at its finest. This design offers couples the perfect blend of modern and elegance. What better way to communicate to your guests your personality and style than through your tablescape? Leave your guests with a defining experience. We want you to be confident and comfortable with your wedding style. What do you want your guests to experience? An evening with great food and a glass of champagne over a beautiful table celebrating with family and friends? That is what we envisioned with this style. At Davis and Grey Farm, a modern farmhouse nestled among the open Texas sky, we were able to compliment this Sophisticated Elegant tablescape with a modern statement. The use of textures and various centerpiece heights creates visual interest.

An Intimate Dining Experience

Take your sweetheart table to the next level. Create a space for an intimate private dining experience. Take this time to celebrate alone with your partner or accompanied by your parents or grandparents away from the swarm of guests that you will soon greet you with many congratulatory hugs or fist bumps. The Floral Bar created an engaging experience for this couple. Illuminating the table with an array of candles and various small vases of blooms, along with the floating cloud of orchids, gives the couple a calming and romantic feel.

“I think there’s something to be said when couples take time for just the two of them on their wedding day. Intimate dining should be a priority not only for your guests but you as newlyweds as well. When documenting any part of the wedding day, it’s essential to communicate well in advance with your couple about the important moments they want to document. For moments like this, we allow the moment to unfold and capture the true essence of our newlyweds.” - Rachel Elaine Photography

The Guest Table

As your guests enter the reception to find their seats, their eyes will be visually stunned by the simplicity and clean palette of white and black—no need to overpower your tables with an abundance of centerpieces. A mixture of bud vases and small white blooms gives a clean and modern look. Selecting different place settings for your head table and guest tables can elevate your guest experience. The clean white linen for the head table and black velvet linens for the guest tables give both a formal look and feel. The Head Table

The head table should be centrally located and a focal point in your reception space. For this head table, we designed this exclusively for the wedding party. We let the single stem orchids do all the talking, giving your most beloved guests a once in a lifetime experience. From custom menus, designed by Brown Fox Creative, each with their name printed on the menu complete with a wax seal, this table leaves you nothing short of, “I’m important.”

“By utilizing a black and white color palette, I wanted to show brides the possibility of minimalistic design while still leaving guests saying, “wow.” These three different designs simultaneously yet intentionally intertwine to create a refined and modern tablescape. My approach was to remain simplistic overall with the floral pieces and paper goods as the focal point.” Morgan, Southern Enchantments

sabelmoments

So, after meeting with a few photographers how do you know you’ll make the right choice? Well here are a few things to potentially think about when hiring a wedding photographer:

Pro Tip

DO I CONNECT WITH THIS PERSON? Could I see myself spending countless hours with them before the wedding and

on the wedding day? Remember we are going to be spending lots of time together, so make sure our personalities vibe well and that you like your photographer as a person, and not just a photographer.

Pro Tip

IS THE WORK SHOWN CONSISTENT? Does their editing change photo to photo? Do you know what to expect

from your photos? Ask how they shoot certain parts of the wedding, does it vary from wedding to wedding or are they consistent with the way they shoot?

Pro Tip

SPEAKING OF EXPECTATIONS... Do you know exactly what to expect from them as your photographer for

the day? Ask all those questions you have been dying to ask. Really get to know them. Ask for a rundown of how they handle weddings. How long will it take to get your photos back? How many images will you receive? Ask what to expect from them.

Pro Tip

ARE THEY AS EXCITED AS YOU ARE ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY? This one is a no brainer for me. I get

super excited for each and every wedding. I love my couples like they are family and want them to have the royal treatment. I love getting to know them over coffee and celebrating life victories with them and praying with them over their hard times. Your wedding day isn’t over for me when we pack our bags and walk away, your marriage is what gets my heart to smile. I want to help and encourage you from now till forever.

IT’S PAPER, IT CAN’T BE THAT MUCH… RIGHT? I MEAN A REAM OF PAPER IS TEN BUCKS! WELL, PRINTER PAPER IS QUITE A DIFFERENT THING THAN WEDDING INVITATIONS! WE’D LOVE TO HELP KEEP YOU ON BUDGET BUT WANT TO SHARE SOME INSIGHT INTO REALISTICALLY WHAT YOUR BUDGET CAN BUY.

QUANTITY! QUANTITY! QUANTITY!

SPECIAL PRINTING PROCESSES

Your quantity arguably plays the biggest role in what your budget can buy when it comes to wedding stationery. Let’s introduce two brides — Heather and Chelsea. Both have a budget of $1,000 for wedding invitations.

One of the quickest ways to see the cost of your wedding stationery cost rise to select a specialty printing process. These days the most common type of printing is digital as it is extremely affordable when compared to other methods. Back when your mother, and definitely your mother’s mother said their nuptials, it was standard for wedding invitations to be printed with letterpress or engraving — as digital printing wasn’t even available until the early 1990s.

Chelsea is inviting 85 guests, so she needs 50 invitations. She too has selected a stationery designer that will create a custom design exactly to her specifications. The invitation suite is $20.60 a piece and includes an invite, rsvp, details insert, envelope liner, the invite in a vellum wrap with chiffon ribbon tied around it bound with a real wax seal, and guest address printing on her envelopes. That’s $20.60x50=$1,030 and barely over budget.

Thermography is a process that raises the ink off the page. This is one of the least expensive upgrade options. Very new in the printing world is digital foil and it runs a little more than thermography. Letterpress is a mid-range printing upgrade where a metal plate is created with your design which is then pressed into the paper, which creates an indentation. Next down the line of increasingly expensive print methods is engraving, embossing or debossing. These methods will run pricier than letterpress. Embossing is raised and debossing is pressed in. Both methods will leave an impression on the reverse side. At the top of the specialty printing methods you’ll find foil stamping, which is like letterpress, but with foil instead of ink.

metal outline is created to cut through the paper creating the design. Die cutting requires a custom metal die to be made, thus increasing your cost. HELLO REALITY

No matter your budget, you can have beautiful invitations! There are so many different routes to get the aesthetic you’re looking for, but perhaps with a little compromise. Some designers have semicustom options at a lower rate than you’d get with a fully custom design. You may be able to swap out paper type to save or trim your guest count to get your wedding stationery bid in line with your budget. Do your research on the things that catch your eye and make sure they fit with your quantity needed and respective budget. Talk to your local stationery designer — most are well versed in their craft and can make suggestions to create beautiful paper goods for you and keep your wallet on track. P.S. We would love to talk to you about your stationery needs. Happy planning!

Heather is inviting 265 guests, so she needs 150 invitations. She has selected a stationery designer that will create a custom design exactly to her specifications. The invitation suite is $7.75 a piece and includes an invite, rsvp, details insert, envelope liner and guest address printing on her envelopes. That’s $7.75x150=$1,125. Whoops, her selected design is over budget. If she removes the envelope liner, that puts her at $6.25, which is $937.50 for 150 and a little under budget.

brownfoxcreative

One of the quickest ways to see the cost of your wedding stationery cost rise is to select a specialty printing process.

Because Heather’s quantity is high, she had to remove something she wanted (the envelope liner) to stay in her $1,000 budget. Because Chelsea’s quantity is low, she was able to afford all the extras and include an envelope liner, vellum wrap, ribbon and wax seal in her suite and was only $30 over budget.

Other methods that can bring your cost up quickly are laser cutting, which is when your design is burned into the paper with a laser. Laser cut can be a time-consuming process as some designs can take quite some time just to burn one plus the creating of the path for the laser to follow. Another option is die cutting, which is when a

LET’S GET INTERACTIVE, WHY A MOBILE BAR IS FUN! Everyone seems to be on the mobile bar trend, and we hope this one stays! They are a fun, eye-catching focal point that guests love to gather around. Satellite mobile bars are not only trendy, but they are beneficial from a service side as well. The bars are interactive, engaging and are great for wedding transitions. We love using them as multipurpose stations. They are perfect for pre-ceremony signature drinks, beer and wine at cocktail hour. Not to mention a boozy coffee bar paired with cake service toward the end of the reception. Mobile bars also make an awesome party rental for nonalcoholic mocktails, lemonade or dessert stations!

FUN FACTS ABOUT CANTINA CARAVAN! FUN FACT ONE. We bought Cantina Caravan from an Instagram post! HD followed the company on social media in North Carolina and they decided to sell it. We had it shipped a few months later to Texas. FUN FACT TWO. Cantina Caravan has a fleet of 2 trailers, a VW bus and 3 boozy bikes. Each is special in their own little way. FUN FACT THREE. The Boozy Bike was one crazy idea Don promised to a vendor. He worked on the bike for months trying to get it perfect for the wedding and it was the talk of the event!

We forage from the environment so that designs are extensions of the surroundings, creating a common variable between nature and the components of the design. We create designs spilling over edges, reaching toward the light, and brimming with textures. We enable florals to continue to grow and flourish in their design rather than appearing restricted and lifeless.

THE LOOK This long-sleeved illusion dress will make you stand out in the crowd. The deep v style with perfectly placed fabric flowers and differently sized pearls will look great on any skin tone. The long sleeves have a slight puff around the wrist that makes your arms look slim and dainty. The highwaisted skirt has more fabric flowers and pearls sprinkled throughout the waistline that taper as you get toward the skirt’s hem. THE LOOK When people think of weddings, one of the first thoughts is of the bride in a big dress walking down the aisle, but this doesn’t fit all brides’ dreams. Are you a bride who dislikes the idea of a traditional wedding gown? Try a slim cut, ankle-length Ponte pant, and pair it with a low cut, flat front lapel, hidden latch blazer. We love this blazer with nothing under but a long-layered necklace to add a little bling. To take it up to the wedding glam level, add a simple earring to match the necklace, bold lip color, and a strong winged eyeliner. These little elements bring the whole look together. If you don’t want to be bare on top, you can always put a cute bralette or lacey one piece under, and you are sure to be looking classy and fashion-forward on your big day.

My perspective of weddings and vision of my career didn’t fit into that mold. I took a long look at the type of celebrations that I created and with the help of a wise friend I realized the common thread between them that I had blindly overlooked all these years. They all had unique elements that traced directly back to their love story. I masterfully and carefully weaved personal details into each and every one of the weddings that I planned and

produced. It was this discovery that lead to the realization that

I have the talent and uncanny ability to fuse those elements

effortlessly. This has become one of my greatest assets. It was this skill that lead me to create celebrations for my couples in museums, the ruins of a 17th century church, and around the world. It is that perspective and my experience that guides the advice I am offering you today:

1. EMBRACE THOSE ELEMENTS THAT ARE UNIQUE TO YOU AS INDIVIDUALS AND YOUR LOVE STORY 2. PINTEREST IS MERELY A SUGGESTION AND NOT THE RULE! 3. THERE ARE NO PERFECT WEDDINGS. 4. YOUR WEDDING DAY SHOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE TO YOU.

5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP FROM A WEDDING PLANNER. When I was first asked to write this article, I struggled with what to write. I didn’t want this to be yet another piece of generic advice to brides that has been repeated hundreds of times on the interwebs. I wanted this to be honest, useful and most importantly fun to read.

Don’t waste time waiting for inspiration. Begin and inspiration will find you.” - H Jackson Brown Jr.

I will start at the beginning, my name is Reytheda, a large population of the wedding world knows me as Rey, and I am the lead planner and owner of Stohr-ee Events. As a child, I was known as bossy, but as an adult that translates into being assertive and a leader! I didn’t choose to become a wedding planner initially, it to become an orthodontist, to work 3 days a week and take quarterly vacations and never, I repeat NEVER work on the weekends. Well that all changed one day when I realized that I was organized, had exceptional leadership skills and enjoyed a good celebration, but that is just the beginning of my story. In my early years as a planner, I only wanted to create pretty. I wanted a portfolio full of beautiful photos of flowers and gorgeous tablescapes with a few smiling couples enjoying their first dance. During those years I struggled with the fact that those things didn’t feel organic to me.

Keeping with the same color as the bridesmaid’s gown will look more cohesive, but the style doesn’t have to match the bridesmaid’s style. A courtesy chat with the parent(s) about the dress’s style would be a great way to get advance approval. Traditionally,

the

junior

bridesmaid

walks down the aisle right before the bridesmaids. She stands at the far left of the altar, furthest from the bride. This will make her feel included and loved at your wedding. It will also allow her parents to keep an eye on her during the ceremony if needed. During the recessional, she will exit last, either alone or paired with a groomsman. It is up to you where she will sit during the reception, but no matter where she ends up, she will always remember getting to be a part of your wedding and how you brought some of her fairytale dreams to life by including her as a junior bridesmaid.

Memories that last a lifetime HIDDEN CREEK by Brett Welch, Hidden Creek photography by Hannah Way Photography

We hear a lot of people say that a wedding is a lot of money for just one day, so we wanted to do a shoot showing that a wedding is so much more than “just one day.” The people you select for you bridesmaids and groomsmen are people that you share strong bonds with and share many happy memories with. You have chosen to include these people in your wedding day for a special reason. Not only do you share past memories with these people, but your wedding day will also be a time to make more memories that you can relish in together for years to come. One day, you might even have kids together and share stories about how you attended each other’s weddings and how magical and fun everything was. A wedding is so much more than just one day, it’s a time to celebrate love, create memories, strengthen bonds, and have fun with the most important people in your lives. A wedding is all about the fun memories you are creating whether it be dancing by the DJ booth, taking a picture together in the photobooth, saying “cheers” at the bar or getting ready together in the bridal and groom suites. Mr. Big might have been Carrie Bradshaw’s true love, but in her words, her friends were her “true soulmates.”

“A wedding is so much more than just one day, it’s a time to celebrate love, create memories, strengthen bonds, and have fun with the most important people in your lives.”

C H E L S E A K AY E P H O T O G R A P H Y HOW DO I MAKE MY TIMELINE? I DON’T KNOW MUCH TIME THINGS WILL TAKE.

Talk to your photographer and wedding planner! I provide my couples with a sample timeline when they book, and we adjust from there. I like at least 20 minutes for photos with the couple alone, whether that is a first look, or after the ceremony. I schedule 20-30 minutes for each side of the bridal party, but I’ve gotten them done in five minutes before! I usually like 10-20 minutes for family formals, but that depends on the amount of family formals you want. WHAT ARE THE PROS OF A FIRST LOOK? I’M TRADITIONAL AND DON’T WANT TO SEE MY FIANCÉ BEFORE THE CEREMONY!

90% of the time, a first look is better for the flow of your day! You are able to flow immediately into the reception and not have to stress about getting back to your guests. In the Fall and Winter, you are usually working against the sun setting, which could put stress on your photographer and have limited amount of time for photos! And in my experience, the groom is more likely to be emotional during a first look! Not everyone likes to be emotional in front of 200 of their friends. Get their honest reaction and be able to enjoy that time together before the ceremony. HOW CAN I WORK WITH MY PHOTOGRAPHER TO HAVE THE BEST WEDDING DAY EXPERIENCE?

Trust your photographer! Nothing makes a photographer happier than hearing clients say they will do whatever you need to get the best photos. Be flexible and value their experience. If you are getting married at 6:00 pm in November, you will probably need to do a first look to get all your photos done in the best light. If you are getting married inside a dark church, you might need to relocate for family formals and bridal party images. Remember that you hired a photographer for their style and expertise, if you want your photos to look like their portfolio, take their advice!

MCKINNEY COTTON MILL As our clients shop for venues, we always ask them to share their vision or where they draw inspiration from for their weddings. This allows them to speak freely about their wishes and removes them from constraints of simply looking for an event hall or looking at their budget. Because our property is spacious, we encourage our clients to think of their wedding as a series of vignettes with ceremony, cocktails, and then the dinner/dancing reception. Great flow from one room to another, or from the outdoors to the indoors allows for a better and more memorable guest (and bride and groom) experience.

5 Things Your Wedding Photographer Wants You To Know WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING THE PERFECT VENDORS FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY, FINDING THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER SHOULD BE HIGH ON THE PRIORITY LIST. BUT BEFORE YOU START INSTAGRAM-STALKING YOUR LOCAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS, HERE ARE JUST A FEW THINGS THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW:

1.

NOT ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE CREATED EQUAL. Find a photographer whose style and personality fit your vision for your big day. And don’t be afraid to ask for past client references or to see a finished wedding gallery.

2.

DO THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION. Not only is it a great way to celebrate your engagement, but it allows you and your photographer to get to know each other and connect before your wedding day.

3. EDITING IS A PAIN IN THE A** AND TAKES TIME. We

know you are excited to see your wedding photos but editing hundreds of photos takes a LONG time and can be really tedious, so be patient. We promise it will be worth the wait.

4. SECOND SHOOTERS ARE A MUST FOR YOUR WEDDING

DAY. No matter how amazing your photographer is, she can’t be in two places at once, which is why having a second photographer on your wedding day is the perfect way to ensure no moment goes missed.

5.

PINTEREST IS NOT ALWAYS OUR FRIEND. We have all fallen victim to the Pinterest rabbit hole, but what you see on those gorgeous boards isn’t always reality. Trust your photographer to create your own pin-worthy photos instead of asking them to recreate someone else’s special moments.

You’ll have the professional photos, of course, but you don’t want to miss the pictures your friends and family will snap too. When planning a wedding, you can be faced with an overwhelming list of decisions to be made. While some couples are fine with checking pre-arranged items off their list, others find the selection process not so simple. If you and your partner want to add touches of your personalities and relationship or offer your guests an experience, that can sometimes be a chore. To design a day that is as unique as you and your story, try looking at some of the following things that can help you to create the most memorable experience for everyone.

TRADITIONS Adding elements from a culture or religion bring one of the most personal elements to a wedding. Be it a mandap, chuppah, broom or lasso, a wedding is a celebration of the melding together two distinct backgrounds. Don’t be afraid to showcase the beauty and differences of your backgrounds!

FAVORITE THINGS Love ice cream? Add a sundae bar with tons of toppings. Know the value of a good cigar or a cup of coffee? Offer a handrolled cigar station, gourmet coffee bar or both. Are you an avid reader? Purchase some favorite books from a used book store and incorporate them into your decor plan.

SHARED INTERESTS Opposites attract but many times couples are drawn together through their shared interests. There are so many ways to incorporate this into your best day ever! Sports, hobbies, travel, cooking, you name it, if it’s something you both love to do, there’s a way to share that with your guests.

4 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR

GUESTS ENTERTAINED DURING YOUR RECEPTION YOU’VE MADE IT THROUGH THE CEREMONY AND DINNER, AND NOW IT’S TIME TO GET THE PARTY STARTED! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT’S NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS TO GET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE TO THE DANCE FLOOR TO BEGIN YOUR RECEPTION. AS YOUR DJ/MC, WE HAVE SOME TRICKS UP OUR SLEEVES TO KEEP YOUR GUESTS ENTERTAINED AND GET THEIR BODIES TO THE DANCE FLOOR TO KEEP YOUR PARTY GOING ALL NIGHT LONG! 1. THE SHOE GAME We like to play this game toward the end of dinner, so we have your guests’ attention turned toward the dance floor! The couple will sit back-to-back and answer a series of fun questions by raising the spouse’s shoe that best fits the answer. We like to use this game to break the ice and bring some fun to dinner time! Your guests will laugh and get to know you as a couple better with your answers. We like to end with the question, “who do you love more than anyone else in the world?” It’s a crowd-pleaser that brings the game back to celebrate your union. 2. THE ANNIVERSARY DANCE This is the perfect way to bring people onto the dance floor, so we like to start dancing time with this activity. All the married or dating couples come to the dance floor and dance with their partner until they We love including as many people as possible in your celebration, allowing us to showcase our MC style and skills. are eliminated based on how long they have been together! It’s a fun and light-hearted competition that lets your guests celebrate their love, along with yours. We even sometimes have the couple married the longest switch partners with the newlyweds to share advice! This makes for the sweetest moments and gets people of all ages to the dance floor. 3. THE GROUP PHOTO This one is exactly what it sounds like. We play something upbeat and invite everybody out to the middle for a group photo. From there, we let everyone know we’re taking three different pictures—one with everyone smiling, one with the bride and groom kissing, and everyone making an “aww” face, and then a silly one. This one includes just about everyone, and the memories are priceless! 4. THE MONEY DANCE Our last activity is typically our couples’ favorite because they get the best gift-cash! We like to do this toward the middle of dancing to give people time to loosen up. This typically lasts for 2 to 5 songs, depending

One of the most important aspects of planning a wedding are the details. As a floral designer, I might be biased, but one of the most important designs are the centerpieces. The table scape can make or break a table design. Even if you are going for a more minimalist look or larger approach, make sure you give those details to your designer so they can design the perfect table scape for you. Two days before we were to start setting up, the weather report took a turn, and the decision was made to add a 4,000 sq ft tent to cover the cabanas, in addition to adding 12 heaters. MY ADVICE for engaged couples is to enjoy the planning process as much as you can and the engagement phase. Don’t rush it or wish it away because it will be there before you know it. I remember during my 1.5-year engagement thinking, ‘wow, this is flying by quickly.’ Before you know it the wedding day came, it was beautiful and I had the best time of my life, but the memories leading up to the wedding are so special. So just enjoy the process of all your appointments & soak in every moment. My other piece of advice for couples planning their wedding, if you want something, then get it. Reach for the stars. Yes, it is just one day; I had many people remind me of this. But it is YOUR DAY! I also had guests compliment the items I almost did without, & I am so happy I got the fireworks to SURPRISE my husband & the cotton candy machine for my guests to enjoy! The little details go a long way!

We chose to incorporate the phone booth because Ben is from England, and we wanted to surprise our wedding guests who were planning to travel to the United States to celebrate our day. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, Bens family and friends did not get to attend our wedding physically but were able to participate virtually. Despite our circumstances with having a wedding during the pandemic, God truly blessed our day. We are forever grateful for all of our family and friends who supported us through every step.”

WE ARE SO HAPPY we are so happy that we pushed our wedding back! We did not want to compromise our wedding dreams for a stage in time. Had we gotten married in June, it would have still been beautiful and special, but some of the most influential friends and family in our journey would not have been able to come. Yes, in September, we still had masks and other Covid guidelines, but our people were there- and that was what was most important to us! We are so happy our family and friends could come and have a good time and still stay healthy and safe!

MY ADVICE for other couples that are engaged and getting married would always be to remember that your partner’s heart is the most special thing you could ever carry, and it is a true gift from God to carry that heart! It takes patience and compromise to get married and be married but getting to love and be loved by your soulmate is by far worth it! I would also remind them to be patient and to take it all in! You have your whole life to bicker and be anxious, try to have fun with wedding planning, after all, you are preparing for your life together! And now, a little bit of different advice: yes, your wedding day is so important and a monumental day in your life: but take some pressure off of it- there will be other huge days in your lives together- there will be more significant celebrations that mean so much to the two of you together! You are preparing for a life full of adventure; there will be so many beautiful days!

STANDOUT VENDOR | Kate and Alex became like family to us! We originally wanted to be married in June, and when we decided to switch to September, both Kate and Alex were so encouraging and supportive. Alex’s ability to create with florals is unmatched. She understood what I wanted even when I was unable to explain it to her. She puts all her efforts into her work, and you can tell that she loves what she does! I wanted all the colors and textures and designs to create a romantic, “Mediterranean fairy garden” vibe. She is a special soul to my family and me! She works so hard to create such beautiful pieces. She made every dream of mine come to life! I know finding colorful flowers in the hottest months is not easy, but she made it happen. Her work is flawless. I know that if she is a part of your vendor team, your wedding will be perfect. Kate was also such a Godsend! She created an environment that encouraged relaxation and deep emotions. She is a true artist through and through. Kate has a unique talent of encouraging emotion; she prepares the shot with prompts like, “now, close your eyes and just think about what it feels like to be so deeply loved.” Those emotions cannot be staged nor faked; they can only be brought out and captured- and that is what Kate does best! She captured every emotion, every laugh, every happy tear so beautifully!

to say the least. My team and I arrived at their hotel, and they were excited and ready to get married and celebrate. They all piled on the party bus to head to Knotting Hill for wedding day. Mariam is a beautiful soul and a glam girl to her very core, and it was evident in all the details of their wedding day. They decided on a first look, and it was so emotional as the bridal party looked on from the 2nd-floor balcony and cheered as they saw each other. They had an outdoor ceremony at Knotting Hill Place for 300 guests, and there wasn’t a dry eye as Mariam walked down the aisle accompanied by her mom and stepdad to one of Seyi’s favorite songs. Cocktail

hour brought drinks and food as the guests enjoyed them in the cathedral and courtyard as the family and couple took their formal photos. As the sun started to set, excitement mounted, and guests were seated in the reception hall, and the MC prepared them for the bridal party’s entrance. It was nothing short of a dance-off when the bridal party and finally the bride and groom entered the reception, and the guests cheered with them and for them while celebrating their wedding day. Once dinner was complete and a quick outfit change to another stunning gown, Mariam and Seyi danced late into the night with their family and friends. They climbed into a vintage car and were whisked into the night to start their honeymoon.

The neon was glowing bright at the cover unveiling of Issue 5 at On the Levee in Dallas. Thanks to our amazing sponsors for making it a very memorable evening. From our signature cocktails provided by DFW Bartending and the neon signs by DFW Neon, we are all shinging bright that night. I want to thank each of our Featured Pros who collaborated with us on this issue and continue to help this magazine grow.
