Gerda Mägi, Anastasia Solovieva, Jaanika Kumm PhD¹, Tiina Kukkes MA ¹ SA TÜK radioloogiakliinik Abstract The aim of the study is to highlight magnetic resonance enterography in diagnosing Crohn’s disease and evaluate the role of the new approach among other methods of diagnosis. The aim of the study suggests the following objectives: 1. To describe the advantages and disadvantages of magnetic resonance enterography in diagnosing Crohn’s disease compared to other small bowel imaging techniques. 2. To describe the advantages and disadvantages of different preparation methods for magnetic resonance enterography. 3. To describe the procedure of magnetic resonance enterography imaging. The given study is a literature review which compares magnetic resonance enterography with other methods of Crohn’s disease diagnostics and describes the procedure of the given imaging. Magnetic resonance enterography is a relatively new method in Estonia, though it is getting more popular in Crohn’s disease diagnostics. Crohn’s disease is often revealed at a young age, it affects the whole bowel wall and causes lots of various complications. The advantage of magnetic resonance enterography is the absence of ionizing radiation, superior soft tissue contrast and the opportunity to use various combinations of sequences and provide detailed images at various levels. Magnetic resonance enterography is hospitable to patients as many of them need 305
