Eilike Veersalu, Ewa Roots MSc, Inga Ploomipuu MSc Abstract The objective of this thesis was to describe the job satisfaction and motivation factors of education workers of substitute homes located in Tartu County and the city of Tartu. The overall task of the study was to provide the managers of the substitute homes with feedback on the job satisfaction and motivation factors of their employees; the workload and aspects of work that affect it; the support and help needs that would enable the managers to support and motivate their employees better. The author conducted a questionnaire with a sample consisting of the education workers of three substitute homes located in Tartu County and the city of Tartu. The data was collected between December 2013 and January 2014. Out of the 53 forms that were handed out, 43 completed forms were returned (81%). Data was analysed using Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and the SPSS program. The study showed that most of the workers are motivated by and interested in their work. Appreciation of work was considered the most important factor of work satisfaction. The education workers assessed their work load as being rather big and mostly influenced by working with children, housework and food preparation. On numerous occasions, the workers highlighted the need to balance their working and rest time in order to prevent stress and burnout. The workers feel the need for support and require it the most either for counselling or work methods analysis. 400
