GENTLEMEN’S HEALTH

MOHS SURGERY

The Most Effective Technique for Treating Common Skin Cancers Mohs surgery is a precise surgical technique used to treat skin cancer. During Mohs surgery, thin layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. The goal of Mohs surgery is to remove as much of the skin cancer as possible, while doing minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Mohs surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis using a local anesthetic. Mohs surgery allows surgeons to verify that all cancer cells have been removed at the time of surgery. This increases the chance of a cure and reduces the need for additional treatments or additional surgery. Dr. Jeffrey Lackey joined Tulane Dermatology in July 2020 and is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. His area of expertise is in Mohs micrographic surgery, reconstruction, and multidisciplinary management of complex cutaneous malignancies. He completed his Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship at Mystic Valley Dermatology, Stoneham, MA and is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery.

Dr. Lackey treats patients of all ages. For more information or to make an appointment, call 985-893-1291.
