t’s a classic brand and fragrance known the world over and represented by some of the most celebrated models and actors of our time, among them Marilyn Monroe and Catherine Deneuve. Now, Chanel No5 can boast two native Pittsburgh Pop Artists associated with this iconic brand: Andy Warhol and Burton Morris. Their work appeared side-by-side in Paris recently at the Grand Palais Ephemere.
The sold-out exhibition was a one-month celebration of the iconic Chanel No5 bottle. Morris had three original Chanel No5 bottle paintings hanging alongside six original Andy Warhol Chanel No5 paintings on display. Morris, who is best known for his bold and colorful artworks for the Academy Awards, The Olympics, and the hit TV show “Friends”, traveled with his wife Sara to Paris for the December 2022 exhibit. He said he was especially pleased to see the placement of his work with Warhol’s, who served as a major influence on Morris’ career. The two legendary Pop Artists both grew up in Pittsburgh, both attended Carnegie Mellon University, and their artworks reflect todays pop culture.
