BOOK REVIEW ENRIQUE SÁNCHEZ AND HIS KITCHEN Author: Enrique Sánchez From the reader report by: Susanne Viegener Enrique Sánchez y su cocina is a well-rounded thing. Impressively unexcitedly and down-toearth with its beautiful and easily implementable recipes which can be realized by anybody. It is no wonder that in Spain the author is one of the superstars among the TV chefs. After all, his ideas are to the taste of a gigantic audience. […] He cooks face to face with his audience and readers and knows exactly what his audience likes. Solid Spanish traditional cuisine in a modern guise for everyday and Sunday menus, with minor refinements, not too ambitious combinations and condiments everybody has at home. Beautiful and arranged in special ways, without being bumptious. Yet still, imaginative and trendy, as proven by his ‘Albondiburger’ (meatball burger) or his sardines with gazpacho filling. Also couscous, curry, ginger, coriander and curcuma are used. Of course, a genuine Andalusian won’t do without a North African touch. The book gives testimony to a great love of eating and preparing meals. In sum: fine cuisine without too much unknown aspects and unnecessary procurement effort. It is the essential what counts! In every regard this is a beautiful book which might become a standard work and may be given as a present across the generations. Pragmatic and simple, yet special and modern.
